Description of Work: Rick Kline started out with good communication. He wanted a specific list of handyman work to be done. I spent a lot of time compiling the list and taking photos to clarify. The expiration date (Oct. 12, 2012) for the big deal got missed in the meantime. Rick assured me he would still honor the coupon. When I contacted him next, he apologized that he had been sick with the flu and didn't forget about us. He has not replied to emails since then (Jan, 2013.

I think it's important to note that the Member did not use our service. There was a lot of work that needed to be done at her house that she asked for a quote on. At first she wanted the work done and then there was a lot of back and forth on whether she wanted it all done. It is entirely up to our client what they want to have done and changing ones mind is totally understandable. Eventually the member got a refund and we were to completely fine with that. It is completely rude and unexpected to see my name rated F for someone who never contacted us with any complaint nor that we did any work for. This is my name and my business, and it is baffling to me how a stranger whom I never did any work for can think it is ok to represent me like this with nothing to say.

We did as much of the member's punch list as week could in the two hour span she wanted. When the time was up she was upset that a shelf was not finished. I explained to her that normally I would still charge to put it up but would go ahead and get it done for her. At first she agreed and then became rather rude and disagreeable. If I offer to do work for you for free to make you happy I'd rather not be degraded while doing it....call me crazy...I wish we got to grade clients....Responsiveness - A, Rudeness - A, Value for my time - F !

It didn't. Job never done.
Description of Work: No service performed. Bought Angie's List Big Deal in early April and Rick said he needed 3 days dry weather before he could do job which was to partially paint the exterior. But days would go by where there was dry weather and no Rick. Finally, after pursuing him he came by to work and did not have the right ladder or the right truck to carry the ladder so we agreed he would come back. Then the day we scheduled it rained. I never heard from him after that. Rick always had many reasons why he couldn't do the job. Not very professional and maybe overcommitted due to getting lots of clients due to signing on to Angie's for Big Deals. I would caution about signing up for Angie's Deals because the provider may get so busy it will be hard to do the job. Personally, Rick was courteous and returned my calls, etc but never the less in almost 1 1/2 months did not do the service requested, and already partially paid for.

Unfortunately Toyota has caused me a massive amount of problems with a recall on my truck and has caused me to juggle my schedule to work with what I could. The customer was pleasant to communicate with but between continuous bout's of rain it was difficult and frustrating for both of us to get a day where the wood would be dry enough to properly paint his exterior. As for the ladders it was not communicated that it was a 40 foot job as well as a large tree being in the way. Even so, on that day I didn't feel the exterior was dry enough that the paint would not peel. The customer asked me to paint the bottom part but I suggested re-scheduling because I felt it would be a waste of his money to pay us to set up and not do the whole job, to which Neal kindly agreed. By the time the customer had asked for a refund we had had 4 days of straight rain (Friday June 8th.) I enjoyed meeting the customer and would still be willing to work with him in the future.

They were fine and the cleanup was fine. I was kind of annoyed, but I don’t think it was anything in particular. I bought the handyman service for 4 hours, but they took a lot longer than 4 hours to finish the job. They took all day long. They were here at 08:30 in the morning and were here until 04:00pm. The window stands unfinished as they ran out of time.

I'm not quite sure why this member is annoyed either. It was a time consuming job that involved taking down previous work and precariously working from the outside on an unsturdy porch. Unfortunately she was not there to witness the work being done and how much equipment had to be moved back forth to accomodate the outdoor space which is a big part of what took so long. The two windows were finished by the end of the day and there was not time to do a third. She was pleasant to work with, I was under the impression she was very happy with our finished work as was I and my apprentice.

I had Rick's team fixed 6 broken window weights in my house. I saw a $99 special for 4 hours of his time and tried it out. In the end he told me upfront that the work will required 7 hours and charged an additional $150 for a total of $250. Rick was very pleasant to communicate with and did all the work specified and cleaned up very well after he left. I really do not have much comparison on the price and quality but I have no complains. There were some breakage in my window trims and drywall but I think those are unavoidable and needs to be retouched at a later time.

Rick and Dominic were punctual, professional, honest, and did a nice job. I bought their deal on Angie's List and saw the good reviews, which is why I decided to try them. They came on Wednesday to do an estimate of the time needed to complete the job, and came back on Friday to do the actual work. They took a lot of care in explaining everything they were doing to me, and were working the whole time they were here and didn't waste a minute. The door that they built is beautiful. I haven't tried the leaking tub yet, but from Dominic's tests, it looks like it's fixed. I had it looked at by two different plumbers and it was still leaking, but I think Dominic figured it out! I still have more things on my to-do list, and will definitely contact them to come again for a second appointment to fix everything else. It was a great experience overall.
Description of Work: They did various jobs around the house, including building a basement door from scratch and installing it (because it wasn't a standard one), fixing a leak in the bathtub, fixing a door that wouldn't remain locked, and putting a dolly under a cracked joint.

I found this company extremely difficult to work with. Before I purchased the deal I contacted Rick Kline to find out his availability because I needed my job done asap since I had scheduled a carpet install and needed this job done first. I was told by Rick that he could come out that week (which I thought at that time would be an appointment for him to look at the job since that is how I have always dealt with contractors or handymen) but then once I purchased the coupon he was then too busy to come out that week. I explained to Rick that I needed the opening to my closet widened (closet is almost 47" wide currently and I needed it widened and to a standard size opening) and also to have a louver door installed. The walls have no electrical outlets or switches. I ultimately got an appointment four weeks later. During that 4 week time period Rick gave me a couple of appointments but again kept pushing me out a week. I was initially very confused as to whether Rick was making an appointment to look at what I needed done or just coming to do the job, it was very unclear. When I sent him an email with questions, he did not answer the questions. In that 4 week period Rick asked me to forward a picture of the closet I needed him to work on so he could get an idea of what I needed done. I sent him the pictures with measurements and description of the work I wanted him to do. At no time did he comment on what I had sent or ask any questions. It was a very confusing process with emails going back and forth. When he finally came to do the job (he was a half hour late), in the first seconds of looking at it he told me that he didn't feel comfortable doing the job because of a structure problem since there was a crack in the wall of the closet. He didn't want to look at attic above, just evaluated, in my opinion, based on the crack in the corner of the middle of the wall. (I live on the top floor of a 3 story condo). He told me he did not want to risk his insurance and told me that I should have a permit pulled to do my job (widening an opening to a closet by 12"). Since I sent Rick all of the information for the job I needed done, picture and description, if this job needed a permit, again he should have taken the time to evaluate what I sent him and informed me before he came here and wasted my time. I spent 4 hours of my time cleaning out the closet and moving items out of the room to make room for Rick to do my project. I only live in a 600 square foot condominium so moving things around is not an easy task. All of this could have been avoided had Rick come out prior to the job and looked at it OR at least, since he requested pictures to evaluate the job, he should have looked at the pictures I sent and spent the time to evalute the job. I think it is inconsiderate to let a customer wait for appointment after appointment, spend the time to prepare for a job and there is no evaluation or preparation by the handyman. In my opinion Rick had no intention of doing my job that day. It was a struggle from day one for him to schedule or even talk about the project. I understand that when these deals are offered that businesses are busy but customers have busy lives of their own and that should be considered as well, especially when a customer is clear that they are only purchasing the deal if it can be done asap. If a business doesn't want to do small jobs then they shouldn't list themselves as handymen. This is my first experience getting a service done through Angie's List and I am extremely disappointed.
Description of Work: No services were performed. I needed a closet opening widened by approximately 12 to 13" and a standard louver door installed. The opening could have been widened 6" on either side or 12-13" on one side, whatever could be done to make the closet more accessible.

I apologized profusely for not being able to do this job as well as offered her a refund in cash on the spot or gave her the option of getting a refund through Angie's List. I also offered for my apprentice and I to stay free of charge to put everything back in place for her, she refused. - I arrived on time and was not given the correct address and had to wait and contact client to get the correct address. - We are a small company who works to schedule our clients in an appropriate manner. We sold 80+ coupons and do our best to work with everyone's schedule. I apologized for her inconvenience and even offered to reimburse her for her work missed. -The pictures did not show the crack. Upon looking at it I concluded immediately that doing the work she requested was a huge liability given the fact that it was a load bearing wall. She also informed me that two other contractors had come to look at it and had not returned to do the work either. I also asked what was above the unit and can I see it and was told "nothing" and "no". There was no mention of the attic. -I was told she needed the RIGHT side opened and the pictures sent did not show any damage, this damage was not visible until we were on-sight. My company and I strive to take care of our clients. I will not do job's that will put the clients home in a precarious position. I am very busy and would not schedule time to do a job and pay my employees to NOT do a job, I work out of Allston and would not drive to Billerica to not work, it cost me $100 labor plus fuel to walk into a job and not be able to perform the work. I back my work 100% and if I can't complete something I refund the client. My company respects my clients as well as their property. I am consistently rehired as well as my clients eagerly refer me to friends and family. I am on-sight on every job and do so to ensure that my company's standards are met. We our proud of our name and standards and stand by our decisions. I will not tarnish my company's name to do unprofessional illegal work.

Description of Work: I bought a $125 coupon for 4 man-hours of labor. I called Rick's number and it directed me to send an email, and I received a prompt call-back within a few hours to set up the appointment. He asked me about the project which was uninstaling a very old washer and dryer which were placed deep in a difficult location. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable, and on the day of the appointment, he and his colleague Dominick came on time, and were very pleasant to work with. They got the job done in a professional and timely manner, taking care not to cause spills or to scratch the hardwood floor as they carried out the very heavy appliances. He also spent some time making estimates on other home improvements but I got no pressure at all to buy more work. I would work with Rick again.

The jobs that they did may not be the most difficult tasks, but they are the kinds of things homeowners face all the time and it's extremely comforting to have them done well. My primary concern in hiring and assessing any individual or company is competence. I then look at responsibility and professionalism. Rick aces all of these, and on top of that he is intelligent, interesting, explains things clearly, and is very pleasant to deal with. I would not only definitely use him again, but I would recommend him strongly to others, something I do not usually do.
Description of Work: Rick, and his assistant were at my home twice: April 26 and May 3. (This arrangement was made via your Big Deal program, hence the amount of money I spent for labor does not reflect the amount of work they performed. Also the amount given above [$200] does NOT include supplies.) They replaced the molding in one of my bathrooms, repaired a rusted socket in my oven, lowered the chandelier in my dining room, repaired a shower faucet, replaced the lattice work on a small patio.

I hired Rick for the first time today, and had a great experience. As a landlord who needs a handy-man I can count on, I'm sure Rick will be my "go-to" guy for handyman services in the future. He and his assistant were very professional - smart & knowledgeable, arrived on time, and gave me clear answers to my questions and helpful info. He's also personable - easy-going, pleasant, and has a sense of humor. I'm glad I found him.
Description of Work: He took care of several things I needed done today: installing air conditioners, repairing some large wooden raised gardening beds, some other minor repairs, and even preparing the soil (mixing in compost) in the garden so I can start gardening. He also gave me good advice on priorities for other projects I know I'm going to need down the road.

We live in west Cambridge, and have employed Rick's services many times for more than a year now. Rick's efforts have always gone very well -- he works thoughtfully and skillfully. He is punctual, detail oriented, and always leaves our home impeccably clean. His pricing is always fair, and he is entirely trustworthy in his invoicing. We trust him unequivocally with our house keys. My fiancee is entirely comfortable with Rick working in our home when she is the only other person in the house. Rick really does go the extra mile in his work. We were delighted to have found him and are planning to have him work further in our home in the year ahead. We are pleased to provide references.
Description of Work: Rick has performed a variety and number of services for us, including but not limited to the following: Remodeling of our bathroom; interior house painting; baseboard trim installation / repair; window hardware repair; Elfa closet installation; basement shelving assembly; furniture assembly; drywall patching.
