We were faced with a very tight deadline with a purchase and sale agreement based on a home inspection. During the busiest time of year for the chimney cleaning business, Jim and staff made sure our needs were met. He was prompt in providing a quotation and and found a way to fit our urgent needs into his very busy schedule. We cannot thank Jim enough for all he did to make the sale of our house a success. Quality of workmanship was A+ and Jim and staff were very professional and a pleasure to do business with. Keep up the good work!!

Perfect. Ash-go is one of the best contractors I've used. Jim is very friendly, honest, knowledgeable and down to earth. They showed up on time, completed the work in a timely, professional manner and we are excited to use our fireplace this winter. Jim also had great ideas on how to fix certain issues. Will definitely be using Ash-go for my chimney and masonry needs. THANKS!!

Jim had done work for me before and I asked him to repair my cement stairs. He said he could patch it up no problem. He was going to work on the stairs after finishing the other project I had him working on. As he finished the other project he gave the stairs another look over and gave me his opinion that a patch work wouldn?t be the best long term solution for the stairs. He stated the other solution would be more expensive but would be the best long term solution. He gave me the estimate and stated he could do the work in the spring. That was August 2013. I gave Jim the call in early to mid Feb 2014. and set up the date. He came that day on time but made sure to call before and ask for the measurements of the stairs to make sure he had the correct martials. He got the materials and went to work. Did it in a quick and efficient manner and it turned out Great!! All that have seen it have made the same comments. Great Looking and I am looking to see if he can do the same work for my front stairs. As always great working with him and money well spent. Worth your business.

He called to ask if he could arrive early, which wasn't a problem for me. When he arrived he was very professional and courteous. He inspected the fireplace and let me know that we could indeed just remove the gas line and utilize the fireplace with wood. He also let me know that the chimney was in good working order and that we wouldn't need to have it cleaned this season. He then inspected the inside insert and let me know of some tricks to prevent smoke from coming into the house because of the small smoke chamber. It was a pleasure working with this company. I had spoken to many other fireplace repair companies and most of them were not even willing to come out and take a look at the fireplace, so I am grateful that he came and provided me with all the information I needed.

We were pleased with the service performed and would use/recommend Ash-go again. They were punctual and clean. That being said... The service technician did not clean our dryer vent because they did not come to our job with the necessary extension kit. We were told that they would come back free of charge to complete the job... I will update after the job has been completed. It also took a while to get a technician out to the house, over a month from the original call but 'tis the season. All in all it was a good experience at a fair price. Would use again. UPDATE: We scheduled the completion of the job- cleaning the dryer vent. It turned out that there was still a fee for the dryer vent, but the service charge (getting them to the house) was waved because this was a follow-up to the job. Johnny was the technician (same as chimney sweep), he worked quickly and was in and out within an hour. About two days later I noticed that the dryer vent exhaust tube had come undone and the dryer was venting into the basement. I made a call to Ash-Go and left a message. Within 20 min (without a call back) Johnny showed up at the house and took care of the job. He swapped out some parts at no charge and worked to make sure the job was complete. He walked me through the work and explained how he took care of the problem. He was personable and polite. I would recommend Ash-go based on their responsiveness and overall quality of work.

Obviously not well.
Description of Work: Ok, so, I am a contractor and I call the owner of this business to do some work for me. I told him to look at the job and send me an estimate. First of all when he went to the job MY CUSTOMER was there and they spoke and he took MY CUSTOMERS email info. Second, he undermined my authority by offering MY CUSTOMER a less than adequate option for the flashing and selling it as a better application. Third, after not hearing from him for about a week. I called and left a message, informing him that I never received his estimate. That evening, I received a phone call from his wife/secretary and she explained to me that she had sent the estimate to MY CUSTOMER. I asked her why she had sent MY CUSTOMER the quote and that I was clear to the owner of Ash Go Chimney that any and all information be sent to me. She proceeded to be rude and blame anyone but her, rather than apologizing and trying to repair the mistake she/her company had made. After going back and forth and getting nowhere she finally hung-up on me. I tried many time after that phone call to let the owner fix what his company did but never received a phone call from the owner. I will conclude with this. 1.) I find it very unprofessional to offer ANY alternatives to ANYTHING to SOMEONE ELSE'S CUSTOMER. Not to mention the alternative was definitely inferior. ANY good mason knows that there is NOTHING better than lead flashing for a chimney. 2.) What kind of company sends an estimate to SOMEONE ELSE'S CUSTOMER. 3.) Why would any professional business not try to repair the mistake they made. It just doesn't make business sense.

Response from ASH-GO CHIMNEY
We would like to respond so that Angie List members may make their own judgement on business decorum, morality and work ethic that they are looking for in a company. This is a very disturbing issue to us and is our first time dealing with this type of situation since we opened in 1997. [Removed Member Name] called to setup an appt, which we did, to look at a prospective job. It was never stated that he wanted ALL information to go to him and never gave us his email address to do so. He did not even call or show us the curteousy for showing up for the appt. The homeowner was there and we spoke. I called [Removed Member Name] from the job site and asked him to let me know where to send the quote to in a message. No response. Since 99.9% of work that is requested by contractors, for us to fulfill, is NOT 1099/subcontracted, after a week of sitting on potential work I did send it to the homeowner. When we received [Removed Member Name] call asking about the quote, my wife did call him back promptly and told him we sent it to the homeowner and we would send a copy to him if he could give us his information. This is where it all went south. [Removed Member Name] started yelling at my wife inquiring why we would do that. She responded that after holding the quote for over a week, she sent it to the email she was supplied and reminded [Removed Member Name] that the initial call, that she setup, he never indicated or offered how he wanted to handle the business transaction. She did apologize for the confusion and stated that Jim would have to speak with him and when he came in she would let him know. [Removed Member Name] then called back over 14 times in the next 20-30 minutes. On the last she told him as politely as possible that Jim would call him when he returned, that he needn't keep calling. He started to yell at her and she told him to stop calling. He then proceeded to say that he could call as many times as he liked. She said that if he harassed her again she would call the police. Jim did not respond for several reasons. Firstly, [Removed Member Name] hostility and manner directed at his wife. Secondly, his attitude when we haven't even done any work for/with him - not likely a situation and we took OUR time at NO COST to look at the work. Thirdly, to remedy with an irrate individual and assit him to "FIX" the issue when obviously he wants to over-inflact his pricing to the homeowner is not something we want to be a part of. (We understand perhaps a small finder's fee being passed onto the customer but the anger and insistence can only lead us to believe that [Removed Member Name] intentions were to overly inflate our decent price so he could considerable profit by abusing the customer's lack of knowledge and his pocket) [Removed Member Name] stated that we "underminded his authority" and were "unprofessional" by offering a less than adequate option to the customer. How could we undermine anything when given no guideline to work within and we were NOT hired to adhere to "his" business standards. He never told us to "not" suggest any product and unless you are a chimney professional and mason, not a hack of all trades that sub's out most of the work, would you know what products work best in cerain situation. Isn't that why you call in a specific trade person to address a certain area of expertise? We use a product/vendor that we like because of the quality, price, durability, warranty, etc, and that is what you suggest to the consumer. In closing I'd just like to point out that until this situation arose I had an "A" rating with Angie's List. I don't know how this will reflect on my rating but I think I can stand on my "A" rating and dozens if not hundreds of good reviews, references and very happy and satisfied customers. I would be happy to supply as many references as requested to anyone interested in chimney reapir/maintenance. I have not taunted, engaged with in any way, [Removed Member Name] since his tirade. Due to the way this situation has evolved and to avoid any further issues involving accusations, problems, etc, we at Ash-Go Chimney will not pursue or accept this job if [Removed Member Name] is in any way involved. We hold no animosity towards the homeowner. If he would like to deal with us separately we will do so and provide quality work at a decent price. Life is too short and we cannot get along with everyone no matter how hard we try. Time to move on.

ASH GO (Jim and John) provided free estimate of work to be done to repair exterior chimney stack. ASH GO also inspected internal fireplaces and flues. ASH GO was able to provide cleaning of interior of chimney at time of estimate. This saved one trip and was appreciated. The work to the exterior chimney stack was reviewed and explained in detail. Choices were provided as to the extent of the work that was needed and what could be done at a future time. The written estimate was sent via e-mail within two days. An appointment date was set. Jim and John returned to perform the agreed upon work. The work was completed over two days as scheduled. The chimney looks great. Thank you ASH GO!

Well I bought the home with a rusted out bulkhead and also foundation of bulkhead was rotting away. Need to have the bulkhead replaced and the foundation need to be rebuilt. I had used Jim on a few other jobs of the home. Had done a great job on them and gave him the call. Came out, gave me a quote and it was very reasonable. I went to a big box store and bought the bulkhead. He came over and rebuilt the foundation and made sure it was smooth and level again. He then put together the bulkhead and made sure it was connected to the foundation and home securely. Made sure it was water tight so nothing got in my basement. Great job again! I was also going to have him work on stairs but after he looked them over a second time suggested I not patch up the stairs but a more complex but better option. Stated he didn't want to take money for a project that would only last two years and have to be worked on again. His options were sound and helpful. I appreciated the honesty and also candor about the job. He gave me options and I will go with him once I decide which option I decide. Can't say enough about the job!!

Well I just bought my first home. It was a fourclosure and I wasn't sure the condition of the chimney. I was recommended by my realtor and I gave them a Call. He came out gave it a once over told me what he had to do and did the job in a few hours. He was professional and made sure he kept the living room clean as he took care of the chimney cleaning. He not only checked from the fireplace but the roof and also the basement and did a quick check on the boiler as well. Made sure the lining was in good condition and not shot. Luck for me It was and he made sure the job was done right. Great job too!!

Was second time I used Ash-Go. Jim was great came and had all the equipment need and even helped me put up my new mailbox to replace the one that got hit and knocked off during the storms of Feb. 13'. Not part of the job but while he was taking a break from some of the masonry work on the chimney helped me on this small project. Great. Work was done and looked good! Now don't have to worry about things going into the chimney from the top down. Great job and worth the money.

Barbara called to schedule an estimate the weekend that I emailed my request over and she was very pleasant to work with. Jim came by and was extremely knowledgeable about his trade. He checked out the situation and provided an accurate overview of what needed to be done. Jim was there for 2 days putting in a chimney liner that we needed because the existing old clay liner was rotted out, he did a bunch of masonry work repointing the chimney as the bricks were loose, put a cap on the other side of my chimney, and came back another day (due to weather) to finish sealing the flashing around the chimney. His work looks really great and the chimney looks like brand new now. The liner was sealed up nicely as well from the basement so I know we won't have to worry about that for many years. Jim did what he had to do to get the job done despite some cold and snowy weather and I'm very happy with the work. If we had other chimney work to be done, we would definitely use Jim again.
