William (the sales agent) was able to provide a quote at the time of the on-site visit (as opposed to sending one later), and he followed up with a phone call to see if we had any additional questions. Probably the follow up phone call was the reason that we went with Isaacs. The quote was under the actual cost by about $1000, but there were a lot of additional things that we added to the move after the quote was placed. We changed the plan and the move date a couple of times at the last minute because of some logistical issues, but William was able to move things around without difficulty. The whole move from start to finish took one week, which was well under the quoted time period. The movers in both Boston and Houston were professional, personable, and efficient. They even helped me move a huge bookshelf down the stairs that was already in the house when we got here. Thanks Isaacs!
Description of Work: We moved from Boston, MA to Houston, TX in January, 2012 from a one bedroom apartment and a separate storage space to a two story house.

As with all of the other moves when The Move Maven has used Isaacs, the entire process went smoothly. Crews are prompt, professional, polite, hard-working and accommodating. Estimates are always right-on, and prices are usually less than their competitors. I am always confident suggesting Isaacs to my clients, and my clients are always happy with the service they receive..
Description of Work: I am a move manager, and my company (The Move Maven) has used Isaac's on numerous occasions with clients throughout the Greater Boston area. This particular move was for a couple who were downsizing from a three-story home in Brookline to a nearby condo.

Originally we were supposed to move the day of hurricane Irene. They were willing to go ahead that day (which I thought was crazy) but they were also willing to work with us to find a new move day that worked for us. This was very impressive given that delaying our move pushed us into the busiest moving week of the year. All worked out and we settled on a date three days later. When they did the estimate over the phone, we agree that since we were not selling the house we were moving out of, it would be better to leave a few things in the house to move ourselves rather than get two trucks. (FYI, if you have two kids under five, planning to do anything in the old house after you move is probably a bad idea.) When the guys got there and looked around, they said there was no way it was all fitting into the truck. I take about 80% of the responsibility for this. However, they said that if we rented a truck, they would fill it. If we drove it to the new house, they would unpack it for us there. Awesome! My husband found a U-Haul and we were good to go. The original estimate was for 5 men but for some reason (hurricane Irene?), they only sent four. This was a HUGE job for four men but they got it done. Since we got away with one truck and four men to move our three-bedroom house, we ended up getting a very good price. My only complaint is that, while the guys were great about putting furniture where I wanted it, and stacking boxes neatly in rooms so we had space to get around as we unpacked, this did not hold up in the attic. Maybe it was because it was the end of the day, they were exhausted because they didn't have enough guys, and we have pull-down stairs to our attic, but it looked like they got to the edge of the attic then just threw stuff wherever they could. Our attic is actually quite large for the amount of stuff we put in there. If they had stacked boxes along the edge, we could have gotten to everything, and put things where we wanted them. As it is, it will take my husband to muscle the heavy things, and then hours of time to get things organized up there. If I had seen that, I might not have given the guys such a large tip, which I did, because I felt badly that they were understaffed. All that said, I only found two broken dishes when I unpacked. They had a very good salesman giving the estimates, keeping me calm, and handling hurricane Irene. The job foreman was polite and really knew his job. The guys were superhuman in their strength and endurance. Can't complain.
Description of Work: Isaac's arrived around 7:30 in the morning, packed my kitchen, master bedroom, kids' bedroom, and books from the office. They then moved all of our boxes and furniture (I had already moved all the artwork over myself) from a three-bedroom house in Somerville to one in Arlington. At the new house, furniture was placed where we requested and boxes were put in appropriate rooms, as labeled. They were done by 4:00 pm.

They were timely and available over the phone. We moved during the summer and our stuff had to be placed in storage before being moved into our new home. We did have some items damaged, but I feel that is pretty normal. Overall, I would say the experience was pretty good.

We had a lot of people in and out of the house helping with the packing and moving and mostly all of them were fabulous. As we are unpacking we haven’t found anything broken yet, so that’s a good sign. There were a couple of things that arrived broken but they said they would fix them right away and bring them back without any questions or hassle. They were very professional, conscientious, and careful. They were a little bit less expensive than some of the other companies we got estimates from, and they had great personal service.

They were on time. They started moving my stuff at 8:30 in the morning and were still not done moving everything out at 1 in the afternoon. (The move was estimated at about 6 hours total). The crew chief was great, the two movers were horrid. They were completely clueless when it came to logistics and making the most of every trip. Things that my friends and I had moved in quickly took them ages to manuver. They would come out with a lamp at a time (just to give you an idea). By the time they got to my new place it was 3. Somehow managed to get things unloaded in 2 hours but I was helping every step of the way. Since the two movers spoke little English-items ended up in random places. I contacted the sales person through out the day to express my dissatisfaction and he never returned a single message. However, the crew chief (again) was great, and worked with me to reduce the overall move back down to the budgeted price. So, overall it worked, but talk about a nightmare and frustrating and terrifying--I was looking at a move hundreds of dollars over the estimate.
Description of Work: Hired these guys to move me from Boston to 495 belt (about an hour away). Moving a 1.5 bedroom, one floor condo (1100 sf) to a 1500 sf, one level house. I had actually cancelled another mover because they convinced me I wanted to use the seasoned professionals, not just guys hired at the beginning of the summer.

There were 3 movers. The leader was different on the two days, but the other two men were the same. All were very pleasant, very conscientious, and very careful with my things. It was very hot on the days that I moved, but they men only took one brief break each day to sit and rehydrate. Otherwise they worked non-stop to be sure they didn't exceed the estimated time-frame I was given. No corners were cut, they just worked very hard. I received lower prices from companies whose reputation I could not verify, and I received much higher estimates from some other companies. In the end, I think this was a very fair price for the work that was done. The first day the movers were right on time. The second day they were 90 minutes late, but I believed them when they said it was traffic related. Because my items were stored overnight, they had to finish their morning job, return to the headquarters, change trucks and come here. I was still only charged for the travel time it should have taken, not the actual time, so I felt that was fair. I would definitely hire this company again.

Overall, the move was stressful because of lack of time, not because of the movers, who were very pleasant.
Description of Work: This was a move from NH to NJ. The company rep, Daniel, after making the sale visited a number of times reassuring us that our packing was going well. We were downsizing from a 4-bedroom house with 10 closets and a storage shed to a 2-bedroom apartment. He assured us that if we didn't finish the packing by moving day he would be there to supervise packing by his moving men. We hadn't finished packing when the movers arrived , and though Daniel showed up that day, he stayed for 20 minutes and left the movers unsupervised while they helped pack. They did a good job with the fragile items, but much of our antique furniture was scraped and gouged during the move. At the apartment in NJ, as they were moving in, we noticed that the cart they were moving was tracking grease or tar or black paint onto the carpeting. They had not put down any protection for the brand-new carpet. We stopped them from using the cart , but the damage was done. When I called the company they said I had to file a form within 90 days. We first had the apartment management clean the carpet to see what the cost was. The cost was minimal, so we didn't file a claim, but the stains have kept reappearing in the carpet.

I went with Isaac's after spending a few weeks getting multiple in home and online estimates. I was just at about my wit's end, having dealt with a number of unhelpful, and decidedly "shady" operations. I first spoke with William, who instantly made me feel comfortable. Isaac's had one of the lower estimates I received, other angie's list companies had quoted me up to $6,000 for the move, and also had the most flexibility in pick up and delivery times. There was some initial complications with scheduling a pick up time; they tried to change the date on me. But after talking with their customer service agents, they rearranged their schedule to pick up my things at the originally agreed upon time. On the day of the move, they showed up about 30 minutes late without calling (this is the largest problem I had with the entire process). From there is was smooth sailing. The guys helped to package my remaining things (microwave, a few pictures) for no additional charge and did a meticulous job of inventoring every box and piece of furniture as it was loaded in to the truck. It was only a two man crew so it did end up taking the majority of the day. But I wasn't paying by the hour, and didn't mind them taking their time to make sure everything was accounted for and packed securely. I met the same two movers in the same truck, 3 days later in Chicago. They were there promptly on the morning of the delivery and only took a few hours to unload my things, checking everything off their inventory list as they went. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. I had read dozens of horrible reviews and horror stories on the web, and was very hesitant to use movers, even those with good reviews. However, I could not be more pleased with how the experience went. I would highly recommend these movers. I felt they were honest, organized, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire process.

I haven?t yet used their services. The quote was between $1800 and $2200. The estimator showed up about 15 minutes after the appointment time, but he called to inform that he was going to be a few minutes late. He was very personable and friendly. He provided us with an accurate estimate and we were very happy with that process.

We did not get their name from Angie's List. They first contacted us by direct mail. We also made contact through our real estate broker (Caldwell Banker). From day one they impressed upon us that they wanted our business. We called them for a quote, one of 5 companies, 4 of which we got from Angies List. We were visited by their sales person, Daniel Smith. He was very courteous and thorough. He told us he would give us a "not to exceed" quote, which, although not the lowest, but very competitive. We received a letter from him after receiving the quote via e-mail, thanking us for the opportunity to quote. The original quote did not mention "not to exceed", and this was corrected immediately after we called him. Scheduling the move was quick and simple. We told Daniel that we might do some packing ourselves, especially our fine china which cannot be replaced. He said fine, to call him after we pack what we could, and he would come back to requote the packing part of the price. He did so, and told us it was a border line case of "package deal" or per unit of packing quote, and would charge us whatever resulted in the lowest cost. This ended up reducing the packing price by $700 when we received the final bill. His estimated weight turned out to be too high, so the moving cost came in below estimate. Overall the total charge came in at $5,473 versus their original estimate of $7,028. All 5 quotes ranged from a low of $3500 (nearly 1/2 of next lowest price) to $9,900. They arrived with 4 movers on time on the scheduled date. The crew chief (Scott) was very courteous and professional. They worked extremely hard for 10 1/2 to 11 hours with no breaks, not even lunch. The truck (a 26 foot box truck) was chuck full. They arrived the next morning in Burlington on time. They off-loaded quickly (only 3 of the original crew of 4) and were very patient as we had to decide where everything was to be placed. They re-assembled everything that they had disassembled in Andover. It took them about 3 or 4 hours. We have since unpacked, found nothing broken. The only mistake we found was one box not labeled as to its contents. We were very happy with their service and would rate them as Excellent++. We gave them a large (for us) tip. You must add them to your list with a high rating.

My sister used Isaacs Moving & Storage to move to Florida and she was quite happy with them but I kept having problems trying to set up a meeting for someone to come out and give an estimate. I was actually doing it for my brother who was actually in the house working nights and he was having difficulty making calls himself to find appropriate movers. We set up 2 separate meetings and we just couldn?t seem to connect and we were under a deadline so after the second cancellation I said ?that?s it, I have to go with the mover that we have seen so far?. I explained to them that I needed a sudden move; my brother was living at my parents? house, my father had died the year before and he was kind of like house sitting until we could sell the house, its been a terrible market, and all of a sudden we got this offer and he had to be out of there within a month. It was a little frustrating and surprising for us because my sister thought very highly of Isaacs but they didn?t do well on the move. We wanted them to come and give us an estimate because it was a 2 storey house but there was a lot of furniture gone already. We wanted a better idea of how much it would cost and I just don?t consider they were responsive at all to set up meetings and cancel it. The second meeting the guy cancelled it because it was raining. It was a very heavy thunder storm and he said ?oh, I can?t make it? which seemed so ludicrous. He was coming to my house; he was going to be inside. Here is my brother, coming home from work and staying up waiting for this guy and he does not show up. It was not a good experience possibly because of the individual we were dealing with but still why I would want to subject myself to it. I forgot what the reason was the first time but the second time he did not show up because it was raining too hard. I just wonder about that employee but it certainly doesn?t reflect well on the company and I would not hire them.
