Jim was great. Very punctual, professional and dependable. The job had many changes and phases and Jim was great with all the revisions. The house in 140 years old and Jim was very adept at understanding what the owner was trying to achieve. His workmanship is great and is a very hard worker.

James is reliable, professional, attentive, honest, and easy to work with. He ALWAYS answers the phone and worked with us to complete our work under a time crunch. He coordinated everything form installing the new chimney liner to scheduling the electrician and removal of our oil tank and the job was completed on time. His final price was exactly as quoted. He also assisted with completion of the forms to get a rebate on the boiler. The placement of our heating system was in a small space and somewhat tricky since we needed to add a hot water heater to the same space but Jim made it fit beautifully and added the necessary fan we needed to ensure proper airflow. He completed high quality work and left the area cleaner then when he arrived. Our new system works great! I would highly recommend him for any major or minor plumbing work.

Jim returned our Friday night call on Saturday morning. He asked 3 brief questions and proposed a course of action including a competitive price quote. A few more questions allowed us to decide on an upgrade to a more efficient fire indirect water heater with a lifetime warranty. We also asked him to close off an aged gas appliance line so we could remove a dryer. Jim installed a temporary electric powered water heater on Saturday while we were out for the day. He returned with an electrician (indirect water heater is more complicated) a few days later and installed it while my wife was home. Jim greeted my wife professionally and politely. The work area was left very clean. He removed the old water heater. We would be glad to contract Jim's services again.

National Grid took their sweet time installing the gas line. Once it was installed Jim came in and did the entire work in three days and replaced my boiler and water tank. He also had the oil tank removed. Good job overall. Will hire as my main plumber.

We were satisfied. He explained to us that when they built the house, they did not use stainless steel that's why it rusted. He took the bottom off the base model and showed it to my wife and it was completely rusted through. I appreciated the feedback. I was a little defensive at first, I thought it was a scam to try to get us to replace it. We knew him from other deals prior to this. I thought the price was reasonable. He said that if we put the base model back in for $300, we'll get another 6-10 years out of it. But if we put the stainless steel one in, it will probably last as long as the house. He gave us a 2-hour window. He called at 2:10 and said that he as running late so we really appreciated that. He was at least courteous to tell us he was running late.

McNiff Plumbing did an excellent job of repairing my toilet. They were prompt, courteous, and informative. They performed the work quickly and completely and at an excellent price. Based on this experience, I would highly recommend them!

Jim came on time, returned phone calls, did good quality work, and cleaned up everything. He let me know what needed to be done and explained everything, giving me good advice. No problems with any of the work he performed. I'd definitely use him again.

McNiff came out on short notice and diagnosed the problem, fixed it and charged a fair price. He is on top of his game in all respects. Returns calls promptly, gives accurate time estimates, shows when he says he's going to and gets it right the first time -- both the diagnosis and the repair. He is the ONLY plumber I will call.00

He was very responsive in getting us the estimate and working with us on scheduling. He was prompt and professional and his estimate was very competitive. He did a great job and we will use him for any future plumbing needs.

On a Monday morning in January, we noticed that our hot water heater was corroding. I contacted Jim that morning and he was able to come over that afternoon. He quickly diagnosed the problem (the hot water heater needed to be replaced) and checked to see if my current hot water heater was still under warranty (it wasn't). He quickly quoted me a price for a new heater and went to his supplier to pick the new one up. He was back in 30 minutes and quickly went to work replacing the unit. From initial consultation to completion of the installation took about 3.5 hours and we were very happy with the quality of Jim's work.

The work was very professional. We picked out a high capacity baseboard element that wasn't available. He called me from the heating supply house to discuss options. We decided on another another high capacity element. He then suggested a change to the pipe routing, which was better than we previously discussed. I then asked him if he could install shut offs on each side of the circulator, which he said he could due for the cost of the materials

I bought a home in September 2009 that needed lots of updates. One of the most urgent updates needed was a boiler and water tank. When we moved in, the original boiler was not up to the task of making bathing a pleasant experience. The water was not hot enough - warm at best - and it did not last long. During our first winter in the home, my son was just a baby and we had to heat water on the stove to add to the cool tap water so that it reached a decent bathing temperature. We needed help and we were determined to avoid another winter like our first. We got a number of quotes (2010) and Jim's quote was the most reasonable. Jim arrived soon after we accepted his quote; he removed the old boiler and replaced it with a new boiler (buderus) and water tank (SuperStor). It is now 2012 and it has proven to be outstanding. The water temperature is always hot and we have never had a problem with the unit. Since 2010 we have used Jim again on two separate occasions; once to install a new kitchen sink and faucet; and then to install a pedestal sink and faucet in our bathroom, along with some other small plumbing tasks in the basement. We have always been happy with his work. We trust Jim and we consider him for all our plumbing needs.

We got estimates from several plumbers and James McNiff Plumbing seemed the easiest to deal with and also had the best price. James and his crew showed up when they said they would and performed the work in the amount of time estimated. He was thorough, professional and did a fine job. He also returns phone calls. We would be glad to hire him again.

My tenant's water heater went late night July 30th. I called 24 hour plumbers and no one returned my calls. So much for 24 hour service! I managed to shutt off the water. The following morning, I got about 5 quotes and Jim's was the best for the same product, State water heater plus installation and removal of old water heater. He was also able to do the job that morning around 9:30. Great job, great price, professional. I would hire him again.

In the process of selecting a company to do our heating conversion, we had 6 or 7 companies come and give us wide and varying estimates with an assortment of different types of boiler options. Jim was recommended to us by a colleague of my wife's. They were impressed with his work. We were equally impressed with the work he has done for us. We highly recommend Jim. Jim converted our home from an oil boiler to natural gas fired system. Our house is over 100 years old and required Jim to accurately size our system to order the new boiler as well as install it. He also lined up the necessary other tradesmen for the project and pulled the necessary permits from the town. We needed a chimney service to install a liner for our chimney, an oil tank removal service, removal of the old boiler and an electrician for wiring upgrades. Jim lined up these contractors and accomplished the installation in less than one day! We also used Jim for a needed repair recently. He was easy to contact and schedule and very fair with pricing. I have a little experience in the trade, having worked as a plumber's helper one summer for my brother-in-law, a master plumber in PA. In my conversations with Jim I quickly came to the conclusion that he was a professional and on the mark with his estimate of the situation and recommendations for the job. PS We looked at our last two years of heating costs. Two seasons ago we payed about $3,000 for oil (it was an unusually cold winter) and this past year we payed under $1,500 (a mild winter). This upcoming year National Grid has lowered the price of gas 6%!

He was excellent. He came and measure out the appropriate boiler we needed. He also contacted all the companies that we needed to come out including, an oil tank removal company, chimney service, and etc. He was able to line them up to come out all the same day. We had oil heating in the morning and gas in the evening.

We had an amazing experience with this company. The quality of work performed was excellent. Everything they did was top quality. We were thoroughly impressed by the professionalism of James Mcniff and his assistant . They arrived and completed the job on the schedule we agreeded upon. There price was very reasonable compared to all the other prices we received. James takes pride in his work and it shows. I emailed Jim to ask about him doing the work I decribed above, and he responded very quickly to setup a time to do the work. Jim showed up on time and after we walked through the list of items I left for work. Jim called me once to ask a question and again to let me know the work was completed and when I got home everything looked great! I have had Jim do many different types of plumbing projects in the last few years and I am always impressed with his professionalism and knowledge as there have been a numbers of different types of jobs (some very complicated) that he has helped me with. I would recommend Jim 100% to anyone looking for a plumber - he has really come though for me each time I needed his help. He is also very friendly and easy to talk with - I appreciate how he explains things in a way so that if you aren't a plumber you can understand things. Anytime I have a plumbing related issue I will definitely be calling Jim.

I called Jim needing a quick replacement of a sink disposal. The disposal was broken making us unable to use the sink at all. He was able to come the next day with the correct horsepower disposal and replace it. While here, I had him check out a bad leak in the kitchen faucet as well as a slow leak in a bathroom faucet. He needed to order a part for the kitchen sink. He came back the following week with the part and repaired both leaks. It has been weeks now since the service and everything is working fine.

Overall, we did not have a good experience with this company. The quality of the work performed was unsatisfactory. It seemed that they did everything the easy way instead of the correct way. We actually spoke with the Town's Inspector, who agreed that the workmanship was poor & that we should have him re-do some items although the items in question did pass inspection. When we asked how the work passed inspections they explained that unless the plumbing is not functioning properly it will pass. Examples of items that we had re-done: 1. The master toilet was actually installed on top of shims with a clear (shiny) silicone caulk all around the toilet- making it appear that there was water around the toilet. We were told that 8 out of 10 people would not have noticed this. Not sure who wouldn't have noticed their toilet floating a half inch off the ground with water all around it? 2. There was a large hole drilled in the new wood floor for the heat pipes, in the middle of the wall. The pipes were completely exposed and not covered by an end cap. We had to have the pipes relocated to the closet, where they should have been installed in the first place & we had to have the wood floor company come back to fix the floor. 3. Heat vents were initially installed too high on the wall, so some pipes were exposed. We brought this to their attention early on to have it corrected, so the entire house would not be like this. They had done this in case we wanted to do wall to wall carpet on our brand new wood floors. Examples of things we were not happy with, but did not have re-done: 1. The master sinks installed had caulk smeared all around the perimeter (and some was on the face of the vanity cabinets). When we asked McNiff about this he claimed that it is not his responsibility to install sinks, the counter installers do. We contacted Gerrity Stone, who installed the counters, who confirmed that they do not install any sinks unless they are under-mounted, plumbers install sinks- exactly as we expected. Our sinks are not under-mounted, they sit on top of the counter. 2. The water pipe for the refrigerator was not installed before the cabinets, which it should have been. The cabinets are in an L shape, so we have a pipe running through the inside of 3 base cabinets, so cookie sheets and any large items constantly hit the pipe when they are put away. *we have pictures of all the items listed above Although James did come back to correct most of the issues, we don't feel that the quality of the work performed was acceptable.

I used him twice. It was $120 to dislodge the stick of deodorant. Plumbers are expensive.
