Provider responded quickly, with evaluation and quote. Later noticed additional work required, for which he quoted a reasonable additional fee. Started on day agreed upon, finishing a few days later. Work appears to be excellent, at a fair price. Clean up was good, even gave a neighbor coupon for car wash.

Peter is responsive and communicates well. He came to see the job, answered our questions, and discussed options with us. We were delighted when he was able to begin the work sooner than expected. He and his assistant arrived on time every day, were always working while on site, did high quality work, and left our property clean and tidy each afternoon. The chimney repair work is outstanding. We are also very happy with the replastered steel beam and adjacent wall.
Description of Work: Removed and relaid top two courses of brick on chimney. Cut out mortar cracks and repointed them. Removed excess mortar, cut out mortar joints and repointed portion of chimney inside sun room. Repaired steel beam outside garage and refinished adjacent stucco.

Peter came out to give us an estimate to repoint our chimney early in the summer. He was very helpful during the estimate and answered all of our questions. He emailed the estimate to us in a reasonable time. We got a couple estimates and decided on Peter because: 1. he agreed our chimney needed repointing, not a full rebuild and 2. he was very personable and helpful during the estimate and 3. he said he did all of his own work. It ended up being rather difficult to schedule the work, as Peter was somewhat difficult to reach by phone or email, but we got it straightened out and got the work scheduled for September. This was nearly two months after the original estimate, which was later than we had hoped for, but we were still happy to have Peter do the work. We really liked Peter and he assured us he does all of his own work. So once it came to the agreed upon time for the work, he didn't show up. We called to check on things and he let us know he'd be here the end of the week, rather than the beginning. The day that he assured us he was coming rained, so he postponed another day. He came in to work on Saturday, which was impressive. He only stayed part of the day, however, and left his partner alone at the house most of the day. The work that they did was pretty messy (busting out lots of mortar) but they did a really nice job cleaning up and hosing everything down. On the second day, Peter and his partner returned and finished the work. The work was GREAT. He explained everything to me and my husband and went above and beyond what we originally talked about to ensure we had a good chimney. On a side note - they did rip out two clematis plants I had growing on the side of the house and just threw the plant into my yard. When I spoke to Peter about it, he felt bad, said he thought they were weeds, and offered to pay to replace the plants. I really appreciated his offer, but did not take him up on it, as I'm sure the plants will grow back next year. Overall, the work Peter did was EXCELLENT! He made sure we got a great final product, even though he encountered some unforeseen issues. It was difficult to communicate with him, however, but if you keep up with him, you'll get a good final product for a good price.

He seems like a real nice guy on the phone. We arranged that he would stop by on a specified day to give me an estimate. On the agreed upon day, he never showed. I called and left a message reminding him of our appointment. He called later that evening, seemed genuinely apologetic and asked if he could come the following day to give me the quote. We agreed on a time and the next day he never showed. I didn't get a call saying he couldn't make it or that he would be late. I was surprised by this lack of professionalism and punctuality because he does seem like a nice guy.

We thought that perhaps the entire wall would need to be replaced or repaired, not just the leaking area. He seemed pretty sure that due to the age of the foundation, it would just be a matter of time before other leaks would appear. He said he would get back to us with an estimate, but never did.
Description of Work: He looked at the basement area that was leaking and then said we would need all of the foundation around the house repaired.

It went great, he arrived on the day(s) he said he would and did the work in a timely fashion . I am planning on using his services next year for more masonry work.
Description of Work: Peter was very prompt in returning my call and setting up appointment to see the area which needed Masonry repair in the back of our condominium building(a house built in 1902,now 6 condos) h e was thourough in evaluating the work needed to be done and gave estimate of $1600. We already had hired a carpenter for part of the job so we were getting desperate with winter coming so I appreciated his fitting us in before he stopped working for the season.

I was impressed with Peter in just about every aspect of our project. He responded promptly to our initial request and came to our house to check out the project within a few days. He provided a detailed estimate within a day or two and the quoted price was very reasonable. Although it was not the lowest quote we got, he was clearly the best in terms of his skills and his understanding of what needed to be done. It was more than worth it. He did excellent work and communicated with us at all stages of the project to make sure that everyone was on the same page about the work and that any concerns could be addressed. Throughout the project, he also repeatedly emphasized that he stands by his work 100% and that we could call him any time if any issue arises. We have never had any reason to be concerned about any aspect of the project, but it is good to know that he will address any concerns no matter when they arise. The only possible criticism I have is that his crew left a few things behind and didn't sweep up so well when they left. Honestly, though, the only reason I noticed this (which is par for the course with just about every other contractor) is because Peter and his crew were so exceptionally good in every other aspect of the job.
Description of Work: We hired Peter to repair the fieldstone foundation inside our basement to remove crumbling mortar and install a smooth waterproof surface that we will paint as part of our plan to finish our basement. We also had Peter repair cracks and strengthen the walls along the steps leading up to our bulkhead to make the bulkhead waterproof.

I sent Peter an email through Angie's List and got an immediate reply. He doesn't normally do jobs as far away as I am but he said if I sent him photos of our chimney he would give me an estimate. I did but it turned out he was going to be in this area in a few days so he came by to see the chimney himself. He said he would be willing to do the job so we talked about exactly what was needed. The next day I had a very detailed written estimate. We agreed to have Peter do the work and since a stretch of warmer weather was predicted he was able to come out the following Saturday to begin. He and his assistant arrived at 7:15 as scheduled and immediately began work. After building the staging he went onto the roof and took pictures of the chimney and some cracks in the roof. Peter came down, showed us the photos and explained what he would do. He even patched the roof cracks to keep it waterproof until we have the roof replaced. Peter originally said the job would take four days but with rain forecast for the fourth day, he worked longer days to finish in three. He cleaned the roof of any mortar, as well as the gutters and the lawn area where pieces of old mortar or brick had fallen. We are extremely pleased with the result and would happily hire Peter again should we need any other masonry work done.
Description of Work: The chimney on our 1742 home was in need of new mortar from the roof line up to about five courses from the top. Those top courses needed to be rebuilt. Peter did that as well as repairing the six flues, bevelling the mortar to keep rain out. Any cavities he found were repaired. The remainder of the joints on the entire chimney were cut out with a diamond blade saw and repointed using a strong portland cement and lime mixture. A clear masonry sealant was applied to the finished work.

Peter was very responsive to my request for an estimate and was at my house within two days to see the job. He emailed me an estimate a few days later which was competitive with the other estimates I had received. Work started within two weeks and was completed in two days, as promised. Peter showed me many photos of the before and after of our chimney. It looks great and is finally weather tight! I would highly recommend Peter for his wonderful work and professionalism.

Throughout the day, he sent me text messages via my cell phone and sending me the pictures of his work. I have never had any do this before. After he completed the job, he show me all the work that had be done. He even filed in some cracks in a garden retaining wall (that wasn't part of the job) with the remaining concrete at no extra charge. Peter and crew did an amazing job. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Our house had 3 cracks in the foundation went though from outside to inside house Fortunately we just purchased the house and haven't begun to move in. 2 walls had to be torn done which we were going to remodel which had no impact on us.

Went great. They worked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Were very polite and professional. They did my chimney fixes last year so I knew I was in good hands.
Description of Work: My 1921 cinder block/field stone (yes, both) foundation needed repair. The guys dug around about two feet down, patched holes with concrete, tarred for waterproofing and ant proofing. They had to stucco where the field stone was, and they patched up cracks inside the basement and on my front walk.

After talking with multiple masons, I chose Maguire Masonry because he showed the most enthusiasm to do the work. He has a great ethic. Work began on my timetable and continued for about 12 days start to finish. Everyday, when I arrived home from work, Peter either dropped by or phoned to talk about the day's progress and the plan for the next day. The work was completed per a fairly detailed contract, there were no surprises. It was a very gritty, messy job, but the crew was always in good spirits and respectful of the property. A second contract was completed as an add-on to do the outside after the inside was done. I now have smooth concrete walls in the basement with metal lathe cemented inside, all waterproofed, and nicely finished around the new windows that were installed just beforehand. The outside of the foundation was re-mortared and a cement skirt laid up to the soil line. I am very pleased with the work done, have no complaints about the crew. We shook hands and I hope to be able to use him again if there is a need.
Description of Work: My 100 year old fieldstone foundation mortar was crumbling inside the basement. The result of which was a short-lived infestation of rodents that burrowed through the holes. The basement walls were repaired and refinished with a layer of metal lathe. Some demolition of old shelving was necessary, one window was blocked up. The outside foundation was dug to about 2 feet and remortared. A shed attached to the house was also repaired the same way and a cement floor poured.

Peter was very responsive from the beginning, and came out to the house only a day after I called to take a look at the steps and assess the work to be done. He was by far the most responsive of the masons I contacted and very easy to reach as we worked through the details and landed on a day to get the work done. The work itself was completed in one day, as promised, and I'm very happy with the results. The basement entrance now has nice clean steps, with proper drainage so the water doesn't pool and seep into the basement when we have heavy rains. Highly recommend this company and will be looking to have them do work on my house in the future.

Peter was responsive and accommodating when giving us an estimate on the work to be performed. During the estimate he took pictures and showed us pictures of some similar work he had performed. He was the only contractor to also ask to see the outside of our house to assess if any work was needed on the exterior foundation. Peter and his team arrived early and on time each day they were here, and were sure to clean up each day. Out of 5 estimates he was the most fair for the work to be performed. We felt very confident hiring him to do the work. The final coat was very smooth, professional looking and complete. We painted the walls with waterproofing masonry paint after 30 days and the walls looked amazing. We were very pleased with Peter and his team's work ethic and attention to detail .
Description of Work: The walls in our basement are half field stone and half brick with a layer of cement covering both (called a parge coat). The original parge coat was very badly warn away. Peter's team scraped the areas where the parge coat was falling off, then they applied a new parge coat (2-3 coats of cement with layer of wire mesh for reinforcement). In addition to the parge coat in the basement, he sealed up two sides of the exterior of the house where the walls meet the sidewalk. He also fixed up our brick step out our front door.
