Description of Work: This is the third job Peter Maguire has done for me. Peter is honest, straight forward, pleasant, very responsive, licensed, insured, and very reasonable! Peter and his crew re-pointed, water proofed, and stuccoed my 200+ year old field stone foundation inside and out. While doing the job, it was discovered that two original windows were rotted and needed replacing. Peter did this also at a very reasonable cost. All work was done on schedule and completed in the time frame promised at the agreed to price. I've since had other work done in the cellar and all that have seen Peter's work have commented on the excellent job. I have already scheduled Peter for another job in the fall. I highly recommend Peter for any masonry work.

Description of Work: We had a stoop that frost heaved over the winter. Peter, who we have used before, came and I also had him check out our chimney, which appeared to have some cap damage. Both needed repair. Peter took photos of the chimney damage, shared them with me and gave us a quote. He was able to do the work sooner than he initially promised. It is a super job and completed in the allotted time and cost.

BEFORE HIRING PETER, WE SPOKE WITH SEVERAL CONTRACTORS ABOUT HOW TO STOP THE LEAKING AND RECEIVED PROPOSALS THAT INCLUDED INSTALLING AN ENTIRELY NEW ROOF STRUCTURE FOR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. AFTER INSPECTING THE JOB, PETER DID SOME RESEARCH AND CALLED BACK WITH VERY GOOD IDEAS THAT WERE, ALSO, COST-EFFECTIVE. IN PARTICULAR, HE IDENTIFIED A GOOD SEALING PRODUCT WITH A LONG WARRANTY. IN ADDITION TO FIXING THE GARAGE, HE REPAIRED A RETAINING WALL THAT SOME OTHERS HAD SUGGESTED MUST BE COMPLETELY TORN DOWN AND REBUILT. THIS, TOO, SAVED US THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND THE WALL NOW LOOKS SOLID AND JUST FINE. WE FOUND PETER MAGUIRE TO BE CONSCIENTIOUS AND KNOWLEDGEABLE AND, IN ADDITION, A VERY NICE PERSON WITH WHOM IT IS EASY TO COMMUNICATE. ALSO, WE APPRECIATED HIS INITIATIVE IN OFFERING SUGGESTIONS, (E.G. DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS), UNRELATED TO THE WORK THAT HE WOULD BE DOING.
Description of Work: REPAIRED A CONCRETE GARAGE THAT HAD BEEN LEAKING AND HAD A CRUMBLED EXTERIOR. WORK INCLUDED REPAIRING JOINTS ON THE ROOF AND APPLYING SEVERAL COATS OF SEALER; RE-PLASTERING THE OUTSIDE WALLS; SCRAPING AND APPLYING SEALER TO THE INSIDE CEILING. IN ADDITION, A BADLY DAMAGED CONCRETE RETAINING WALL WAS REPAIRED.

WHEN WE ACCEPTED THE QUOTE, HE SENT US A DETAILED ESTIMATE, AND GAVE US A SENSE OF WHEN HE COULD BEGIN WORK. WE PAID THE DEPOSIT FOR THE WORK, WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY 35%, AND PETER CAME WHEN HE SAID HE WOULD TO BEGIN WORK. HE GAVE US AN ESTIMATE TO HOW LONG THE PROJECT WOULD TAKE AND FINISHED ON TIME. HE TOOK THE STEPS NECESSARY TO MATCH THE EXISTING MORTAR ON OUR HOME, AND IN GENERAL DID VERY CAREFUL WORK. WE WERE PARTICULARLY GRATEFUL TO HIM FOR HIS WILLINGNESS TO ADAPT HIS PROCEDURES IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE MESS RESULTING FROM THE REMOVAL OF THE OLD MORTAR. HE WAS CLEAN, EFFICIENT, COURTEOUS, FRIENDLY, RESPONSIBLE, AND INCREDIBLY EASY TO WORK WITH. WE PURCHASED A FIXER-UPPER HOUSE ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO AND HAVE WORKED WITH DOZENS OF CONTRACTORS; PETER IS BY FAR THE BEST. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
