They told me I needed a whole new heating system which wasn't true. I had the salesman come out who was really nice. He spent a long time measuring the house and windows and trying to figure out what would be the best heating system for my home. I had a second gentleman come out and he looked at it and said he could see what they were saying but I can do it for you cheaper than the $10.000. When I say cheaper, it was 2/3 of the cost cheaper. They said it was going to cost $10.000 and this guy was going to do it for like $3.000. I told him yes he could do it. He is an independent guy but in between that, he said to me, 'I have been thinking about this and I don't think you need a new heating system, I think I can fix this for you.' He did and he charged me $140 and I have heat ever since. While Hurley & David were very prompt and available, I was very upset that they would try to charge me $10.000 for a heating system that I didn't need. They sent two gentlemen out. One stayed on his cell phone and I realized he was trying to record my house which is kind of unprofessional. The other gentleman opened up my furnace and said, this is broken, you need a whole new heating system. Me not knowing, if I had just gone with what he said, I would have spent $10.000 when I didn't need to. I was upset that they didn't know how to fix the furnace. The whole house was built just ten years ago and it has a top of the line heating system, why would they try to make me get a new one? When I got the second opinion and the heat working, that Monday, they delivered the new heating system. I said no, I cancelled thins out on Saturday. They didn't notify the delivery people that I didn't need this heating system and if I wasn't home, they would have just left it. They were leaving it in anticipation that the repair people would be here to install the new system. That would have sat outside and God only knows what would have happened to it. I gave them an F on price because I could have gotten it for 2/3's less that is horrible. That is not a little bit of money, it is a lot of money. They were great with responsiveness. They came earlier than they said they would. I wouldn't use them again in future.

Good Afternoon, Thank you very much for taking the time to let us know how we did for you. In reviewing the pictures of your project, the agreement for your new furnace and thermostat upgrade, and the field notes form our personnel, I feel that we did offer you the best options. I am concerned that perhaps our team did not communicate with you as well as we should have. Your furnace had water damage that cause the breakdown. The cabinet was rusted indicating that the water damage had been ongoing for a period of time. In these cases we cannot know if any other components have been compromised and will either fail in the future or cause unsafe operation. Our philosophy is "Fixed Right or it's Free", this means that if we are not confident that our repairs will result in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of your system that we would not make those recommendations. Given the condition of your system and the extent of the repairs we would have to offer (replacing every electrical component in the furnace) to ensure safe and reliable operation, the right option to ensure your comfort was to replace the system. With regard to the investment that you were provided for a replacement vs. what another company was providing, I cannot speak for what the other company offers, but I am confident that the work they were providing was not the same. Also the agreement that you authorized for your new furnace and new wireless thermostat for the second floor was not $10,000 but only $6298.30. I don't know what the other company provided for $3000, but our offering included a top of the line furnace, a new wireless thermostat for your zoning system to move the control into the bedroom, all parts and labor, a new air cleaner cabinet to ensure proper airflow and clean air in your home, risers to keep the furnace off the ground and protect the cabinet from future water damage, upgraded venting to draw combustion air from outdoors, permits, inspections, reconnection of your existing zoning system, steam humidifier, inspection and cleaning of your AC coil, a 5 year parts and labor warranty, and absolutely no surprises. I do apologize if your comfort advisor did not share all of these benefits with you, but I am confident that no licensed HVAC company could provide this scope of work, regardless of quality at $3000. I am sorry that the speed of our response caused your new system to be delivered to your home after you can called to cancel the project. When you agreed to the project that Saturday, the wheels were immediately set in motion to get your new system installed the following Monday. When you called our off site call center did not mark the message as urgent and it was left for our office on Monday. Our installation crews leave our shop at 7:30 in the morning and the supplier around the same time. Unfortunately they got to your home before our office got to your message. I'll look into ways that our office could process the messages sooner. We remain committed to your 100% satisfaction in your dealings with Hurley & David, inc. Efficient and professional. We didn't like the original placement of the internal units. They repositioned them without a problem. I originally had them installed for air conditioning but found them to be very helpful as heat pumps. I had some trouble with one unit and HD Air fixed the problem on the day I contacted them. I am amazed at their response times. I Iike the units they use (Fujutsu) as they are quiet and reliable.

I couldn't believe how quickly and professionally they got the work done. I have the air handler in the garage and I was concerned that they wouldn't be able to replace it. They came out had the parts and everything ready to go and tied the whole system together quickly and did a great job in my opinion. The work took exactly how long they said it would and they had allotted extra time also just in case. Overall I was very impressed with the service and happy with the work they did.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback to Angie's list about your thoughts on our company. I am sorry that we were not able to provide the service that you were looking for. We strive to provide our clients with a custom fit of exactly what they are looking for. Unfortunately we are not always able to provide that service for a few reasons. The most common reason is that we are not able to perform the work requested in a matter that will comply with codes. The most common example of this is gas conversion burners. The Gas code states that all equipment must be installed in accordance with their listings and manufacturers instructions. Many furnace and boiler systems that were designed to run on oil are not listed by their manufacturers for operation on natural gas. While installing such a burner may result in a functioning system, it would violate the codes in Massachusetts. The next most common reason is not being able to assure your happiness with the installation. At Hurley and David, we offer a wide range of guarantees that ensure if you're not happy that its H&D left holding the bag and not you. The last reason and least common is that the work requested is outside of our specialty. We believe that you wouldn't see a heart surgeon for knee surgery (even though he could probably do the work) and as such will decline work that is outside of our specialty. I am sorry that we were not able to provide the service that you were looking for, but please understand that our interest in declining to provide a service is to ensure your Health, Comfort, Safety, and Happiness. i called Hurley and David to have them give me a price on a furnace and a/c unit. I was put on hold for awhile. When the person got back on the phone she told me that they don't install in rental property. Hurley and David did do a small job on my a/c unit last year. I told H&D that since they wouldn't service all of my needs i would have to look for another company to take care of my units.

Very displeased would not recommend. Person I talked on the phone was rude . Called back the next day to complain and find out what was going on and was given a bunch of excuses.
Description of Work: Technician was supposed to come out for annual cleaning, rescheduled twice. then ran out of hot water and was told I would have to wait 2 days for service. I brought the service contract. They oversold it and do not have enough people to go out on calls.

When the technician called back 3 hours later he informed us that because we weren't existing members he couldn't service us. He was not professional on the phone at all. The two reps we spoke to on the phone prior were very nice. Will not recommend this company. Technicians customer service skills are highly lacking.

We have weekly training for our technicians and we will be addressing this issue at our next meeting tomorrow morning. Our home was built in 1952 and our furnace was the original, we believe. The AC was almost as old. The time had finally come to replace them and we obtained several proposals over a 2 month period. After evaluating all the proposals, there was really no choice. H & D was the obvious winner, not the least expensive, but overall, the best choice. We were impressed with their service from the moment we signed the contract. Kudos to Linda Dabrea for being one of the most professional salespeople I've ever met. She followed up meticulously on every detail including the bizarre world of energy rebates. You won't go wrong with Hurley & David.
Description of Work: Replace fuel oil furnace w/ natural gas high efficiency system and replace central AC system. Removal of fuel oil tank. Installation of ductless split AC/heat heat pump in Master bedroom.

When we bought our house one of the criteria was that it had multiple zones for heating and cooling. Since the house had multiple thermostats and the agent told us that there were zones that was what cinched the deal on the house. The first year in the house we always had trouble with the heat and the ac. We had HD air come in and do a furnace check. They found that both thermostats were wired to one board, hence no zones. We were always trying to heat or cool a 3200 square foot house. Not very efficient. We had them write up a estimate and I had it done. They put in 15 dampeners and the house now has thee zones. One of the best parts is that the zones are setup wirelessly. I can control them anywhere I have my phone. We have the ability if we want to add an addition zone in the future. This year with the high cost of fuel, we cut our propane costs 30% while staying warmer than before. They gave us the ability in the future to do a couple of add-ons (humidifier and HEPA filter) which we will consider. The job took three days and the installers where exceptionally professional down to their booties to keep anything off the carpets. I now have a yearly service contract with them.

The tech person arrived within the hours we were told. He was very curteous and professional. He asked about the problem and said he would check it out and let us know if he could fix the problem He was able to diagnosis it which turned out to be that the humidifier needed a new pump. It was an older system and it was explained to us that this particular problem could be solved but other things could happen in time. We appreciated the information and the honesty. The only real criticism has to do with discussing with us the service program. The technician asked about our problem and then showed us the list of different memberships we could take out. He stayed on this subject for too long and I had to ask him to look at our problem first since that was why we called and this should happen before talking about joining your maintenance program. He then did so, reported back to us and priced out the fixing of it which we agreed to. It was done quickly and he spent time to make sure it was working. The technician again brought up the membership program and I felt that this was pushed a bit. The tech was very nice but I think your company can certainly offer a program but the personnel should be trained to not push the topic. This really bothered me. One explanation is enough. And before the offer of a program, the job should be looked at. This was why we initially called.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problem with our humidifier. Replaced a faulty pump and checked to make sure the system was working.

I am not going into all the details, but the installation was complete with 1/25 inch quarter piping for the gas generator that burns 261,000 btu's per hour, set up for future gas range , future gas dryer, future cellar heating and hook up of gas logs in my 2 sided fireplace. Note: You asked me in the beginning if I used Hurley and David, I did, but I did not go thru Angie's, list. Hurley and David have been around a long time and are well known.

Dave was a pleasure to work with. He diagnosed the problem and what I was impressed with was that he verified with his father to make sure he wasn't missing anything. This proved to me that he wanted to make sure he did right by me and ensure no stone was left unturned. He did not try and sell me anything I didn't need. In fact, he informed me that although it would be prudent to replace a certain part, it still worked and it could wait. I will be calling Hurley and David to replace this part in the future. Dave quoted me a price which I truly felt was a fair price of around 600 dollars. I have a dinosaur for a heating system and I felt very confident that Dave was honest in his assessment, especially for this old system. I also have to say that the promptness of a return call and coming to the house was OUTSTANDING!!! I sent an email to them, within the hour I received a call back and an apt was set for the next day. I had reached out to another service and never heard back. They say things happen for a reason. I am glad that the other service did not call back, otherwise I would never have tried Hurley and David. I will be having Hurley ad David fix our system. I will follow up with another review once they finish the repairs. Of course, the real test in knowing if Dave was the right person for the job was if he past the Molly test. Molly is our Golden Retriever, and he was so nice to her, she sat and let him pet her for a few minutes. Dave passed the Molly test so I knew he was honest and trustworthy and the right man for the Job :)

Called these guys because our furnace would not ignite on the coldest days of the winter so far. We have a forced air unit, called that morning were told to expect a tech at 2pm and he arrived at 1:58pm! He was able to troubleshoot the problem rather quickly about 20 minutes and was back out to get the part approx 20 min. Clean, efficient, and professional. Will definitely use this company again for future services.

I called the office in desperation because another heating company I had been in contact with in the morning told me at 2:30 they could not come to my house that day. I had no heat, I am physically disabled and the temp was supposed to be dropping to single digits that night. I told them my blower motor was out on the furnace. Gave them the exact part number and sent a picture via e-mail. They told me it would be an after hours call so would cost more, but assured me the techs had parts in their trucks and they had that part in stock. When he got there the tech agreed with me that the blower motor was the problem he said he did not have the part on his truck, if the office had told him the details I had given him he could have stopped by the office and picked it up. All he was told was to go to my address, no details.
Description of Work: Nothing-He showed up on time, said he could not do anything that night. Wanted a check for $149.00. I asked if he came back tomorrow if this amount could be applied to the total bill and he said no. He as in my house approximately 5 minutes.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on Angie's List and tell us how we did. It sounds like our technician did not do a great job of communicating the challenges while he was on site at your home. According to his service report, he found that the chimney was missing bricks and the vent connectors (flue pipes) were not able to be tightly sealed to the chimney. According to his evaluation the repairs could not be made safely until the chimney was repaired. We do carry common universal parts on our trucks. However, many of the specific parts required for larger repairs, such as blower motors need to be obtained specifically for the equipment that they are installed in. Different manufacturers use different gaskets, adapters, and mounting brackets. For this reason part numbers off an existing part often does not provide all of the information necessary to obtain the correct specialty parts. Many times we are able to obtain parts at night from an on call representative at a supply house. Unfortunately, because the chimney needed repair, the technician did not offer this option because he could not make the system operate safely without having the chimney repaired by a mason. When boiler was turned on with mins my eyes began to burn. The tech said I needed dehumidifier in my basement. He said the boiler is fine and i should have no problem with my heat. The air in my house was terrible I called the company back to be told the tech would call me. I never called the gas company who shut down the gas & boiler for carbon monoxide. I notified the company of this situation. I did receive my check back.

This is the first time I have done business with this company. I received a quote over the phone, set up an appointment for several days later.
