This is the third move we've used Gentle Giant for and every time they have been exceptional. At work, I've used a number of movers, but never hesitate to hire Gentle Giant for my personal moves. They were fast and efficient moving our belongings out of the apartment and were done far earlier than what we expected. They were very accommodating and quick during the off-loading. They made sure everything was in the right place before they left. For a rainy day, they also made sure our house didn't get dirty. As a side note, we have two small children who were fascinated with the big truck and the men taking our stuff, and the crew was great with them. Not just looking out for them, but with quick and friendly interactions with the kids. That was a great help.

Gentle Giant is incredibly professional. They'll be at the upper end of quotes you get from reputable movers, but you get what you pay for, and they won't underquote to get your business. We asked for full pack and move estimates, and then once we had those, asked what we could do to save money if we had the time to move some on our own ahead of time. Between their advice, a little work on our part, and their careful estimates, the final price came in at about $600 under the estimate. They were incredibly careful and professional during the two days of packing and prepping. We moved less than a mile away, so the entire load and unload/assemble was done over the span of ten hours on one, 95-degree day, and the team was amazing throughout the process. Our furniture was all disassembled and wrapped in protective blankets for the move, including antiques and breakables. They reassembled everything in the new house and worked with us to place furniture pieces where we wanted them. Household goods were carefully wrapped and labeled as part of the full pack, making organization and unpacking in the new house so much easier. Gentle Giant builds custom crates for difficult pieces like large, flat-screen TVs or antiques, and our move included two pianos, which they took great care of. This is our second move with Gentle Giant (the first was eight years ago when we moved to the area), and we would highly recommend them and, if I ever have to move again, I can't imagine moving without them!

They were very professional, nothing was broken. Their estimate was very accurate, and they made the move very peaceful and stress-free.

They were great! Very responsive, timely, and helpful. They were very easy to work with, asked the right amount of questions, and were very polite. I really appreciated the care they took with the many boxes and fragile belongings.

These guys are class acts. I had them move all my stuff from a 1200-square-foot apartment to one that's just over half the size. They moved everything perfectly without scratching either the items or the walls; their costs came in right at the estimate; the three movers were true gentlemen; and they even assembled a bunch of furniture for me that I was dreading reassembling myself. I would pick these guys again in a heartbeat. The one thing that I've noticed some frustration about is their cost. Yes, Gentle Giant costs more than a lot of other movers: I paid about $2000 for a job that another mover was estimating would cost $500. I asked Gentle Giant about this. The difference in cost came in part from insurance (this move was insured up to $30,000), and in part from a bunch of miscellaneous items that Gentle Giant cover that their competitors don't -- for instance, they spent the time waiting in line at City Hall in both the start and end cities to secure parking permits for their trucks. But far and away the largest constituent of the price difference is labor costs. I paid Gentle Giant $80 per person per hour for three guys; a competitor quoted me $55 per person for hour for two guys. First, the addition of another man meant that they could do things in parallel: one guy could assemble furniture while the two others carried a couch, for instance. There's no getting around that hourly rate difference, though, and that's where the cost difference ultimately comes from. When I asked Gentle Giant about this, they were completely straightforward: as someone at Gentle Giant explained to me, they have "full time employees, no day laborers, we run checks on everyone so we know who will be in your home, everyone has health and vacation benefits, the owner has invested in paying the guys well so they can have careers here etc." Fundamentally, these are values worth supporting. And what I got as a result was the best moving experience I could have imagined.

They were very good. The move took five days. Its an excellent company and I would very highly recommend it. I thought they were expensive.

The move went more smoothly than I could have imagined. The two movers arrived on time and worked quickly and efficiently. All my furniture was wrapped and protected, with no damage. Rudy manned the crane and really knew how to maneuver the equipment so the furniture went safely out the window, onto the truck. Offloading went very quickly. The price came in a little under their quote. Although the price was a couple of hundred over a competitor's quote, primarily due to the need for a crane and police detail, it was well worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or, to give them my highest recommendation.

Went very well! GG is the best. The mover is such a key component of a RE move- not to be messed with. They are quality!!

Four movers showed up promptly as scheduled. We met at our storage facility. These four movers were strong, polite, quick and careful. After moving all belongings out of storage (very quickly) we went to the apartment where they proceeded to continue wrapping and moving our belongings without slowing down at all. We then drove over to our new home. Being new construction, the house did not have a lawn. We planned to put many items including furniture in the basement but the only way to get there was thru the mud and into the basement via sliding glass door. We decided to go through the house with everything instead. In spite of my hesitation, I agreed this was the best plan. Two guys stayed outside and two stayed inside. They handed all our belongings off to each other. They finished the job PERFECTLY. Nothing was broken, dented, scratched or marred in any way. Not even our brand new hard wood floors that we were sure would get damaged. These guys have a unique way of moving. They put all smaller items into big boxes on wheels and wheel it into the truck intact. Makes the move very fast. All in all the move was over 8 hours long but these guys were just as pleasant, careful and fast in the end as they were in the beginning. They also helped me with all the little stuff and did anything I wanted them to do. And, my sales rep who came to our home to give us a quote was as nice and kind as anyone could hope for. This is a quality company and I would not hesitate to do business with them again.

Outstanding company. The best movers I have ever used (and have moved at least a dozen times). Have now used them twice for cross-town moves. They have a great business model and the Giants (the movers) clearly buy in to the company beliefs and reflect it in their professionalism. They show on time, they are incredibly careful yet super efficient, and they are friendly and highly communicative. I have recommended them to everyone I know. However, you will pay for quality--they are definitely more expensive than other companies. But if you care about your stuff, your house, your time, and supporting companies that care about customer service, they are well worth the extra money!!

The move went really well, they were on time, organized, efficient, and polite. The guys did an exceptional job with this tough move, the hoisting was done in a safe manner with good communication skills throughout. nothing was damaged, not even a scratch on the walls. this was entirely different than my move in experience when i used a different company. Gentle Giant may have a higher price but the quality of the work is the reason, they are top notch.

If we move again we will use nobody else but them. They were terrific. They started out as a local but they go nationwide now. They were very good. The stuffs came through in excellent shape. I was present both when they were loading and unloading the truck, they did a good job. I used them back in the year 2000 and I've heard that they had a good reputation around Boston. I'd used them to move from an apartment to a house that we eventually moved from. They are very high quality. When the truck arrived in Minnesota there were two people and there were two people who unloaded. They did the same amount of work in one day. Apparently, they have two qualities of crew, the ones who pack was local to Massachusetts and the ones who unpacked them were more nationwide and high quality guys. It came through beautifully.

All of the good things you've heard about Gentle Giant are true. I had a fairly complicated move. I had decided to downsize into a condo but had a houseful of furniture, approximately half of which was my daughter's, but no place to put it. Originally I planned to move my half to the condo and her half, plus a few other pieces, into storage until she was ready for them. Jackie O'Toole from Gentle Giant came out and did a very thorough consultation and inventory and set up the move and the storage. Then my daughter's circumstances changed and she needed her share of the furniture, in Portland, Oregon! And getting to condo ready to move was going to take longer than originally planned, but Jackie didn't miss a beat. She rejiggered the whole move, a couple of times as it turned out, and got the whole job done on time and under estimate. The packers and movers were thoroughly professional, friendly and courteous. My biggest surprise was when my daughter told me that two of the crew from Boston had gone out to Portland with the truck to do the unloading. I was really impressed! I don't know how GG's prices compare with other movers; the others I called for estimates either didn't come out or came out, did a quick inventory, but never got back with an estimate. Perhaps as other reviewers have indicated, they are a bit more expensive, but if that is the case, the extra cost was well worth having the job done right and according to my shifting requirements.

I recently moved from Massachusetts to Santa Fe, NM. I've heard many horror stories over the years about cross-country moving companies, so I had great trepidations about how my belongings might fare. Gentle Giant both packed most of my furnishings and delivered them to my new home. The experience was so amazing that I haven't been able to stop talking about them. I can't say enough about how wonderful everyone was. The crew was well-trained, very professional, polite, respectful, efficient and kind. A crew of five came to pack most of the house the day before the move and worked tirelessly and cheerfully. Most of the packers were foreign college students who were in the US on work/study programs. They spoke excellent English and worked together flawlessly. Their supervisor, Lorand Nagy, coordinated the team effort and was just wonderful. On Saturday, Mark, a lovely, cheerful Irishman, supervised the loading of the tractor trailer, which was a masterful feat in itself as it was a close call as to whether there would be enough room. On Sunday, Lorand (Friday's supervisor), set off cross country with another driver. A week later, the two delivered my belongings to my new home. The unloading was particularly difficult because the tractor trailer couldn't make the turn to back into the driveway and the two men had to figure out how to get all 12,000 pounds from the street up a steep unpaved driveway. The process ended up taking a day and a half. Throughout the entire process they remained calm and cheerful and never once complained. They treated my things carefully and so far, I haven't found any damage whatsoever from anything Gentle Giant packed. (Gentle Giant also offered full replacement value insurance at a relatively reasonable cost; another mover was going to charge 2% of each item's declared value, which would have been prohibitively expensive.) A major move is always a stressful experience, but thanks to the professionalism of Gentle Giant, I had great peace of mind and wasn't disappointed. I would hire them again in a heartbeat! They were simply the best!

They were efficient, polite, helpful, on time and came in under budget. This is the second time we have used Gentle Giant, and if we should ever have to move again I will call them again!

First off, Gentle Giant is not the cheapest (probably the most expensive). But you do get what you pay for with a move. The quoting process was easy, person came over to do inventory and quoted us a price. We got competitive quotes that were considerably less ... but our previous move left us with damaged furniture, so we decided to try GG, because of good recommendations. They sent 4 guys to pack. They did a good job packing, took about 6-7 hours. They actually used less packing material than quoted. On moving day they really shone. Moving days seems to drag on forever ... but they sent 5 guys who made quick work of it. With moving you pay by the hour, and I've seen movers go slower than I thought they should - racking up more hours. GG chose to use the nearby stairwell to move our stuff from the 2nd to ground floor. This was a much shorter walking path than using the elevator. I'm sure they saved 1-2 hrs by making the extra effort of stairs vs. elevator. Moving the stuff into our new house, the guys actually jogged back between the house and truck. The final price was right on with the quote (material was lower, labour was higher - we had a lot in storage). Overall, very please with GG. Highly recommend them. When it comes to speed and quality I doubt GG can be beat.

We designated only one item, a large Hoosier, as valuable and needing care. When it was put in place, a leg had been broken, which the movers claimed was fine and not harmed. I had it repaired myself, as I really didn't want to deal with them anymore. The two movers were very efficient, and wavered at different times from being nice or rude. It was not a pleasant experience. It's been almost two years and it still leaves me with bad feelings.

Excellent. Very professional in every aspect. We moved on a busy week so they packed us Sunday and moved us on Monday. Ten days later they packed on Wednesday and moved us on Thursday . Gentle Giant moved us in 1989. They were very good then. That along with the Angies list rating made us choose them again. There was a lot of packing and 1.5 trucks worth of materials.. It was seamless and on schedule. The estimate was accurate. We packed cloths, they packed furniture and breakables. We labeled our boxes specifying a destination room in our new house. They were 90% accurate in their placement and when requested ,they moved the materials to a new location. We were totally satisfied.

They helped find an affordable way to get set down to new Canaan, CT. When driver ran into traffic called to keep us informed on eta. Reliable . Had used them another time and always true to their word

They are expensive but worth every penny. From the coordinators to the movers to quality control, everyone associated with the move was highly responsive and professional. When I had a question, someone would answer my emails right away. And when we had a few minor issues during the move-in (which the head mover himself pointed out to us), the company was incredibly helpful and quick to provide a remedy. And, seriously, how often do you get your furniture professionally moved by a PhD student? I was very pleased and would definitely hire them again.

These guys are nothing short of fantastic. Polite, focused, careful, fast. They wrapped all my furniture in moving blankets so that nothing was marred in any way. They removed all excess packing materials on their way out once everything was delivered. Apparently, Gentle Giant has a physical fitness regimen required of its employees, and the team of three who moved me certainly lived up to that fit standard. Fast, fast, fast and gentle with my belongings! They were on time and under the cost estimate for the move.

They were very friendly. They broke a lot of my property. They were very responsive.

Perfect! I have had to relocate many times and this was my third move with them. They are by far the best movers I have ever used.

We selected Gentle Giant based on reviews, and called them and several other firms for estimates. Their original estimate was slightly higher than others, about $1k. We specifically asked if we would be able to assist with the move. We hired a sitter to take care of our 3 year old because we wanted the day to go smoothly and we assumed we could be moved in by 5p. A lot of things went badly, and I will just try to highlight the most difficult parts: - We had everything ready to go, boxed, and labelled with which room in the new home it would go to. So initially it was a lot of moving boxes. When the two GG folks saw this would go quickly they began insisting they call on a 3rd person to come help them at an additional charge. We were sure, given it was a 2 bedroom apartment, with our help it would be fine. - Then it became clear since we had not agreed to their demand they began pursposely slowing down basically the more we tried to help. They kept leaning on the rule that we were "not allowed on the truck", but in a few minutes we would have the tailgate loaded with boxes and they would stand around thinking where they would pack them. They were hardly keeping up, but it was clearly on purpose. - As most got packed and it still went more quickly they looked for things to slow it down it seems. They would meticulously pack some older furniture we had. I tried to insist that was not needed, and again they leaned on "policy". - Despite the time consuming care the applied, things that mattered they were utterly careless. I had an old small desk with 3 small side drawers. I assumed they would tape them shut and easily place it on the truck. At some point they dumped all the contents in a single box, including paperwork, coins, pens, crayons, jewelery. I have still to sort through it again. - Before leaving the old place, the worst was that the two of them spent 45 minutes disassembling our futon frame. Seriously. [Later, when we got to the place I looked at it, and it was 10 bolts total]. - At the new house, the process had reversed. While packing took them 4+ hours, I assumed at least everything would go better. They began increasing breaks. Often I would be literally waiting at the gate asking them to give me something to move and they would ignore me. It was sad to see young people to be so disinclined to do a decent job. I can only believe they were thoroughly trained by their employer on how to deliver moving services. - Despite clear labels and floor maps on each box they would ask us where we wanted each box, despite repeatedly trying to show them the labels. More time wasting. - Finally, somehow they managed to gouge our newly refinished would floors with an 8 foot gash. So much for "gentle". - Close to 7p the ordeal was over. They presented me the bill far exceeding their estimate, totaling $1700. We also had to go through reporting the damage which they acknowledged and were not even apologetic for. "Their company would cover it". - Later, we tried to relax, have dinner. I began checking the boxes. Half the boxes were delivered to the wrong rooms! I was furious. Honestly I have put off writing this review to see if perhaps with time my perspective would change, but to this day I can't understand how this company got its reputation. - It turned out the floor finish was special product, and their person who they sent out to have a look and fix it had no experience with it. So those hours of appointment setting, chasing GG, and meeting their floor expert were wasted. They then insisted we get an estimate, which took us hours to locate a firm ( mainly all the companies were busy), and get this done. They did finally pay the firm we found, but that process took months, and hours of our time, which of course was not compensated. I would urge everyone to think what they want out of a move. We went with a well known name because we wanted a fast, good experience and were willing to pay for it. We basically got the opposite. Who might GG work for. I don't know. I thought perhaps those people who are willing to pay a premium for things working out. But the quality of work: misplaced boxes, house damage,..., none of it really supports that.
