McParland Electrical was contacted to change 5 outdated smoke alarms, install a simple first floor 110 outlet and separate an existing garage / kitchen circuit. Hugh completed the first two easy items in a relatively short amount of time and then spent a couple of hours analyzing circuits. Hugh explained he needed more time to complete the circuit job and would return after a brief July vacation. He asked for a $1000 payment and a check was issued. Hugh did not return to complete the job and we waited until September to call him. Many calls were made and messages left over the next two months . McParland Electrical has not completed the job and has not returned any calls. The check was cashed immediately but returning to complete a job appears not to be a priority for McParland Electrical.

Hugh was prompt, courteous, informative and very professional. He answered several questions about other electrical issues. I would absolutely recommend him, and plan to schedule a time for him to fix a burned out socket. I could not be more pleased

Hugh came by within 48 hours of contacting him to take a look at the work. He explained what his plan was and how much it would cost. A week later he came back to do the work. The job was done professionally and the total cost came in right where he estimated it. We would definitely hire Hugh again for any future electrical needs.

He came Within a half hour notice on a Sunday night in the middle of a snow storm. He gave me the estimate but suggested a better alternative. He also helped with a couple questions I had and gave me recommendatinos for other work.

I was given Hugh's name through a friend who worked with his wife. He came out and replaced the heater promptly, taking the time to show me how I could safely do it myself if I needed to replace another. He pronounced the ceiling fan dead, but told me that I could likely replace it myself as well. He was friendly and kind. Although our contact was brief and the job small, Hugh impressed me as a man of excellent character and honesty and he will definitely be the first person I call when I need additional electrical work. His prices seemed to be pretty average (although he gave me a discount because of my friend). Bonus that his accent is delightful :)

Hugh and Paddy McParland did a great job -- very responsive to the installation approach that I preferred, prompt, and professional. Initially, they looked at the equipment that I already purchased to vlidate it was appropriate, and verified with the local electric inspector on the installation approach before starting any work. They did a very neat and clean installation on 9/5/2013, properly isolated grounds as required, and handled the town electric permit and inspection, which passed with no issues on 9/24/2013. The $1,000 fee included their services, misc. materials/wire needed, and the permit fee. The transfer switch is a 200A service entrance manual switch; which means that it is now the main breaker for the house (taking the feed from the meter, and feeding my house circuits from either street-power or generator-power). The placement of the transfer switch and watt meter were important to me, for ease of use. This solution allows me to feed my entire house, as long as i monitor the watt usage and do not overload the generator. I manage the usage by watching the watt meter, and simply turning on/off circuits from my electric panel based on what i want to use in my house. The installation was completed in one day (after an initial visit from Hugh/Paddy to scope the job). Following installation, I tested it that night for 45 minutes, using the generator to drive virtually my whole house (all lights/outlets, well pump, 2 large refrigerators, 2 small refrigerators, furnace, dehumidifier, sump pump, basement sink pump). The things I didn't run during this test were the 2 central A/C units, electric range, electric washer/dryer, and pool filter/heater...but if I manage certain circuits in my electric panel, I believe I could run any of those individually.

Hugh McParland is a great guy, personable, very reasonable, and he's right out of Ireland. He's not over-priced and he does excellent work. I've been using him since 1986 and I recommend him to anyone I can.
