J & M Plastering

I have an older home and had damaged, heaving original ceilings in the living room and hallway. John responded quickly to my original inquiry, was on time for the walk through, and provided a VERY reasonable quote. I decided to go with his quote since it was so favorable. When I decided to purchase, he continued to be responsive and flexible to match my scheduling needs. He was on time for the work, and did a good job plastering both ceilings. The work was completed in one day. Clean up was reasonable as well considering the work, and that he had to work around some large furniture that I couldn't remove from the room. I will definitely use J& M Plastering again for my plastering needs based on this experience, and would recommend the company to others.

Came right away when called with problem. Four days later it was all taken care of. Was very prompt and professional.

From the start J&M showed me they knew what they were talking about and knew how to fix my 83 year old houses walls to make it seem new again. Everything went smoothly and they were finished over an hour earlier than I had expected. The walls look super and I can't wait to prime the walls and get painting as I transform my drab kitchen into an awesome one.

J & M Plastering from intial phone call, to the estimate to the finished product, has been a professional experience that are not found to offten in todays market. John has provided a quaility product and service that i will recommend to others in the future.

John was punctual, courteous and professional and, after driving out to my house, taking the time to explain how I could do this job cheaply and easily myself, wouldn't even let me give him a tip for his time. It is quite refreshing to deal with a honest man and I would certainly use J&M Plastering in the future.

This is the 2nd time I used J&M and I could not be happier! John did a great job patching the sheetrock and plastering the ceiling so that it looked like nothing every happened! A true professional that I would HIGHLY recommend.

John came to our home to give us an estimate on some plastering that we needed done. He was very professional and easy to talk to about what we needed to do and responsive to the time frame we were working with. John always came on time and if he were going to be late or was not able to come on the specified date he always called in advance. John did a great job for us. He put blue board in the family room and plastered both the family room and the bathroom. I was pleased with his work and with the price he charged us for the job. In addition to the work he did in the bathroom and the family room, he made some repairs to my kitchen and main bathroom ceilings. John did a great job and I would hire him again and would recommend him to my friends.

I contacted him thru Angie's list very close to Christmas. It took a week for him to respond, which was fine, since it was the holidays. I expect many companies to take time off during this time of year. He did contact me, and he decided on a Saturday (since I work Mon-Fri). He emailed to ask to reschedule, and asked for Monday. I told him I had to work but that monday evening would be fine. He made the appointment for monday at 5pm. On monday, I called and left him a message to confirm appointment. I was busy at work so if he needed to reschedule, I was planning to stay later and finish some of my work. He did not call or email back so I went home and was there for 4:45pm. When I got home, I had a message on my home answering machine from him, asking to reschedule again. I was NOT happy. HE made the appointment time. I called to confirm. He says HE deleted my phone message, in error. I made it home for the appointment, even though I was busy at work, also. He no-showed. He didn't'/couldn't contact me, so, in my opinion, he should have kept the appointment. I'm not going to keep my appointments, and be okay with him deciding his time is more valuable than mine.

John is very professional and customer service oriented. He did an excellent job blending in old plaster walls and as well as finish some new walls I needed done. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND J&M.

J&M arrived on the date and time promised, and completed the work as planned. The workers were very friendly, courteous, and presented a good appearance. J&M worked steadily and completed the task as planned. At the end of each day, J&M swept up the site and consolidated all debris into a previously agreed location. I was impressed when J&M placed a tarp on my subfloor to prevent additional mess. During the weeks after completion, I have had a chance to really get a look at the finished walls while preparing to paint. I am extremely satisfied with the quality of workmanship. J&M performed in an exemplary manner. I will not hesitate to use J&M again and have been recommending J&M to co-workers. My experience with J&M has been a pleasurable one.

John was prompt and courteous, and created a seamless interface with the existing wall and ceiling, left the work area clean and neat, and finished the job well within the estimated time frame (3 hours).

John arrived at the condo and looked over the job. He instantly pointed out that I could cover the holes myself for very little money and proceeded to tell me exactly how to do it.. W e felt bad that John had come out to our condo and essentially talked himself out of a job. We offered to pay him for his time and his advice. He refused. We thanked him and he left. We left a few minutes later to find John's truck coming back across the parking lot to us. John said that he had just thought of another inexpensive solution to our problem and he wanted to be sure that we were aware of it. Amazing! John was very professional and friendly. His attention to detail, considering that we weren't going to be paying customers, was outstanding. Should we be in need of plastering services in the future, John will be our first call. He was a very impressive young man.

John was responsive and punctual in giving us an estimate as well as when it came time to complete the job. John did a great job repairing our walls/ceilings at a reasonable price. Also took time to clean up thoroughly when complete. Very professional.. Would not hesitate to use J&M again..

I called to get an estimate and it took two full days for them to get back to me. I called again and this time it took 3 days to get back tom me. We arranged for them to come out to my house for an estimate when my wife would be home. They never showed but I received a call later that evening apologizing for missing the appt. I agreed he could come out that evening which he did. He gave me a quote and said he would contact me with a written estimate and a time they could start the work. 3 weeks later I have not heard from them. Would not recommend.

In one day John and his crew skim coated our kitchen/dining area and living room/hall as well as repaired the hall ceiling and skim coated the walls & ceiling leading to our finished basement. He got back to me every time I called and he and his crew were courteous, on time, never took a break and cleaned up after they were done. His work is outstanding and he provides excellent value for the money spent. I would strongly recommend him to anyone.

John was very responsive to my request for a quote. He came when he said he would come. He did excellent work and cleared up when he was finished. The price was very reasonable.

John came to see the job and gave me an estimate on the spot. He even gave me some suggestions for the work I was doing myself. It was an old house with uneven walls. He did a great job of making them look more even. After he was done he told me the best way to finish everything.

John was prompt in returning our call and showed up exactly when we had agreed for the estimate and for the work once we had agreed on the needed to be done. They showed early and finished quickly. The whole project took only 2 days.

Found J&M on Angie's list. Called and he returned my call promptly. We set up a time to look at the job. John gave me a price. We agreed and a week later the job was done. I was pleased with the workmanship and I would call him again.

My situation: In an 11x11.5' bedroom a previous owner had had plaster roughly and unevenly applied over a peeling paint (cracks were plastered linearly). The plaster, peeling paint & bare horsehair plaster were then painted with grey latex paint and navy sponge glaze (badly done). The room could not be painted and 1x1' sections were buckling from the wall. I decided to scrape the buckling and plastered sections. The plasterers had also covered the ceiling molding and the molding above the baseboard, so I removed them. What resulted was damaged horsehair plaster with several serious cracks through the walls, cracks above the room and closet doors and above the two windows, cracks where the molding had been. A disaster. J&M job: John came and gave estimates for applying 1/4" drywall (~$600), or screwing, taping & plastering the walls ($400). My intention from the beginning was to preserve the plaster walls, and since this is the first room I was doing in the house, I chose the $400,...although, John warned me that the cracks above the lintels and the major cracks in the walls may reappear. John came one morning with an assistant. They worked for four hours and the walls were beautifully smooth. (The ceiling was not worked on.) He gave me advice on how to prepare the surfaces for painting. After 4 days (drying & waiting for the weekend) hairline cracks did appear above the lintels, but without doing anything I caulked and painted. One thing that I did not expect was that the plaster covered the top of the baseboard unevenly (in the corners), so applying a molding seemed like a headache that I did not want to deal with. Therefore, I built up the baseboard to make a smooth surface. The cracks have disappeared under the paint, and after two weeks they have not reappeared. But I was warned! So, I won't be able to complain if they do appear after more time passes. John pointed out a similar job done in the foyer and stairwell. Much poorer workmanship. Lots of cracks have appeared and the plaster was not reattached to the laths in places. But I gather that sometimes cracks can only be avoided by covering with drywall. One unexpected thing was that the ceiling was stained brown for 2" at the edges. I could not match the ceiling paint under the old light fixture, anyway, so I had to paint the ceiling.

John Madera returned our call immediately and scheduled a time and date to come and give us an estimate. He was prompt and very pleasant to work with. He came right on time the day he completed the work. He took a great deal of time doing the work to make sure it was correct. My husband was very impressed with his work and said that John was a pleasure to work with!! He cleaned up after he completed the job. We are so glad that we hired him.

John and one helper spent a day redoing a ceiling in one bedroom. John is flexible and committed to doing a quality job. The ceiling looks great.

I had removed the old plaster from 3 ceilings exposing the wood lath. I hired John to install new blueboard and plaster all 3 ceilings and 1 wall. Each ceiling was about 12'x12'. John and his crew were very professional and thoughtful. Before beginning, they covered all floors with canvas tarps. The work they did was amazing. In 8 hours, they had all 3 ceilings finished and ready for paint. I paid $1300 which was very reasonable and worth every penny. I would definitely use J&M Plastering for my next plaster job.

Andy came out and boarded the room in about 1/2 a day, very quick with good quality. Later in the week, Andy and John returned to plaster and finish the work. They finished in the early afternoon. They were very clean and made an effort to clean up after the job. We found J & M Plastering through Angie's list, after the plasterers we had previous used (and were happy with) went out of business. We were a little apprehensive to hire someone without see their work, but went with J & M after reading some of the reviews on Angie's List. We had several quotes from other plasterers, some were as much as double in cost. We were estatic that we went with J&M because their finish work was comparable, if not better, than who we had used before, and their price was very fair. We are very meticulous with work done in our home, and are thrilled with the quality and price J&M Plastering gave us. We will be using them for all our plastering needs and recommending them to family and friends. Our walls are beautifully smooth and look fantastic. I highly recommend them.

HIRE JOHN MADERA!!!!! John is an honest man and a very hard worker. You have no reason to question his integrity or the quality of craftsmanship. He is talented and can do exactly what he tells you that he can do for a price very close to his estimate. He even touched up some areas in the house that needed repair for no additional charge. The end product was much more professional looking than drywall for a price that was very close to what I would have paid. He is not a salesman and if you want drywalll, he won't try too hard to convince you otherwise, but his product is a much better product.
