Description of Work: There was an ice dam in a gutter at the back of my house and much snow on the roof of the garage. A crew from A & A chipped the ice out of the gutter and shoveled the snow off the garage roof.

Description of Work: A & A Services of Salem is a great company - Chris Zorzy, owner of the firm, runs a great business. I had multiple custom window and deck doors replaced and his team did a fantastic job. They were on time, on budget and exceeded all expectations - all on a complicated job. Chris and Pat, his senior manager, also went way out of their way to address an unrelated emergency issue, which was also awesome. Description of Work: Their rep, who've I worked with several times - always a good experience - came to my house after I requested a check for ice dam problems I had last (very bad) winter. He could easily have told me I have a problem, but he told me everything looked pretty good and I should just park my car further back in the driveway to be out of the way of the immense ice hanging should we have another winter like last year. I have used A&A Services for other things as well, and have always been pleased with their work. In particular I have ordered (and plan to again this year to finish the project) storm windows during their winter discount period. They are a great company!

Description of Work: I called this company about repairing the sill of my home. They got back right away and were very professional. They scheduled a time that worked with my schedule to look at my property. I appreciated the very honest approach of this company...because they concluded, after inspection, that my sill was just fine and didn't need to be repaired. They didn't try to sell me on something I didn't need. I would definitely call them again in the future!

Description of Work: I contacted A&A Services for a full siding estimate. In my request I asked for a materials and labor breakdown in the quote. Mr. Zorsky declined that request with the following statement: "I have been in business for over 30 years and found that including everything in the estimate protects both you, as the homeowner, and my company as the one completing the project." I expected a "complete" quote, I just wanted a materials and labor breakdown so that I could gauge the materials mark-up and the reasonableness of the labor cost estimate/man-hours estimate. Thus the only "protection" in a global quote, in my opinion, is the materials and labor mark-ups. I have had many commercial quotes where materials and labor are broken down so that the consumer may measure the various components of the quote and work with bidders on a fair price.

I have been in business for 30 years and have thousands of satisfied customers who feel we provide professional service and workmanship at a fair price. This review is from an individual whom I did not have the opportunity to talk to since he did not leave a telephone number. I feel I answered his question adequately regarding my quoting process and do not feel as though I deserve a “D” grade when I openly communicated to him the reason I quote jobs the way I have for years. Because my company wasn’t a fit for his requirements he felt it necessary to grade my company. This hardly seems fair since I did no work for him nor could I speak to him directly. I felt I was very honest and just as customers have the right not to hire my company, I feel I have the right to not bid jobs if my bidding process is not a match with their requirements. I feel I have been wrongly graded given the fact that I did correspond with this individual. Below I have attached the email correspondence that preceded this grade. Dear Chris Zorzy, Your profile caught the eye of an Angie's List member in your area and they left you the following message: Hi. I'd like a quote for complete vinyl siding job. I'm just starting to solicit bids. I'd like materials and labor broken down in the quote. Please contact this member as soon as possible. Thank you for inquiring about an estimate for your vinyl siding project. You requested a separate price for labor and materials and I would like to explain how we estimate our jobs. Our estimating system is set up to include all supplies, labor, trash, permits, insurance and clean up. I have been in business for 30 years and found that including everything in the estimate protects both you, as the homeowner, and my company as the one completing the project. In closing, we would appreciate the opportunity to estimate your project. We are local and have hundreds of local references.
