Showed up on time every time, was extremely patient in explaining things to us, kept out house spotless in spite to the work he was doing, really worked with us on what we could afford to do. Overall just thrilled.
Description of Work: We recently purchased a house that had water intrusion issues around the chimneys. Called a couple of contractors to take a look at it. The Kiwi bid was the most thorough and we really felt it addressed the issues. Brad worked with us on timing and payments and has already started the job, even in the cold weather. Overall, extremely satified, would trust him in our house alone (have done) and am impressed by their overall experience and professionalism. Would hire them again in a flash.

I found Kiwi/Brad on Angie's List and, after an on-site visit and discussion, we hired him. I appreciated his clarity, attention to detail, flexibility (some scheduling issues), communication with us, problem solving, and integrity. He and Pete really care about the quality of what they do, and it shows. Great people, great job; we're happy, and will certainly use their/his services again.
Description of Work: Brad and Pete rebuilt approx. a dozen courses of bricks at the top of our chimney, installed flue tile extensions, did some tuck pointing where it was needed, built a new crown, and installed a 6" x 20' stainless liner and connectors (for a woodburning fireplace insert).

The job went very well from my initial conversation with Brad to the final clean up. Very impressive. The crew were on time, acted very professionally, had solutions for any issues that arose, and the final cost was as originally stated. I recommend KIWI Chimney to others and would use them again.

I had a very good experience with Kiwi Chimney. Brad came out and inspected what needed to be done. He was upfront about the work and didn't try to pile on addition jobs as other companies had during previous estimates. He also worked around my schedule which I appreciated because I wanted to be present during installation. His crew, Pete and Dave, showed up on time, familiarized themselves with the job and got right to work. Both guys were personable, freely answered my questions and worked hard the whole time. They finished the job quickly in just over four hours and everything that they touched was cleaned up. In addition as mentioned above, Pete inspected the flashing around the chimney and sealed it. I would definitely use this company again should I need further chimney work and would recommend them to friends and family.
Description of Work: Kiwi Chimney installed a 35' x 7" liner in my chimney along with a top and cap. In addition to the lining work I was concerned about the flashing around the chimney. Pete sealed the flashing and reattached a loose shingle for me at no extra cost.

We asked Brad to come check out our fireplace, as the damper would not seal correctly. Turned out the flue tiles were cracked, and a number of otehr issues. Brad gave us several options to mitigate the issue across a range of prices. We elected to have hime take out the old flue tiles, re line the chimney, and put on a lock top damper. he arrived on time and he and his crew performed the work as promised, on time and on budget. He spent quite a bit of time with us up front and after the job to explain what was done and why We were able to use the fireplace this week, and it went perfectly... firtst time since we've owned the place
Description of Work: Brad and his team ended up removing the old cracked tiles from our chimney, relining it, and putting a lock top damper to restore our fireplace to working order

I called Brad, a few days prior to him getting married, for an estimate on extending my chimney in order to be able to use. He said he would come see the chimney as soon as he returned from his honeymoon and he did exactly that. His estimate was clear and concise and extremely fair in price. Unfortunately an unfortunate incident occurred. As soon as I save up
Description of Work: Brad is the most professional considerate individual that I have ever spoken to in this industry. He provided an estimate for me to extend my chimney that was extremely fair, but unfortunately a very expensive sad situation occurred with a family pet who we have had for 21 years and I was unable to get the work done at this time. Being a single mom, as soon as I save up the money in order to have a functioning fire place in my home, Brad is the man I will call. Thank you Brad for your honest and extreme fair pricing. Have a wonderful winter!

Right up to the end of the job Brad showed a lot of patience with my questions, changes to the schedule, and extra requests. Brad and his crew also worked around my schedule, sending a mason to do work with a chisel (where possible) rather than a saw in order to keep dust down and make less noise around my sleeping toddler. It was really a pleasure engaging him, and the look of the finished work is great. Brad and his crew were very professional, accomadating and offered great value for the money. My experience says Kiwi has upstanding tradesmen who know their stuff. I recommend them highly.
Description of Work: I had to look hard for good chimney services but I am glad I did. In fact, after I talked to Brad I replaced another chimney service provider on a substantial part of the work I required. Brad saved me lots of money on a part I didn't need, on external chimney tuckpointing/crown sealing, offered tips on how to get additional work done inexpensively, and spent a lot more time and effort exploring and then fixing my firebox than the other provider.

I thought they were great. Brad, the owner was really nice, on-time, and prompt. What I liked about them was when he ordered the chimney cap and went to put it up, he found out at that time the whole size was wrong, so he had to put the old one back on, reordered the part and get it back out there. I didn’t have to pay for it, but I thought that was very professional.

I can't say enough good things about Brad's work and attitude. Needless to say, I was an unhappy when he arrived (because of the bad inspection report), and wasn't any happier when he told me of the poor work that had been done by the previous guy. Brad was very patient with me; he explained everything very clearly and clarified even more when I didn't follow what he was saying. He fixed everything that was wrong, and even fixed a brick front step that was loose. He was on time, on budget, had a fantastic attitude, and left me feeling very confident in the house I was offering for sale. In fact, when I found a buyer, Brad was happy to answer the buyer's questions about the chimney. I highly recommend Kiwi Chimney Services. Sorry for the lateness of my review.
Description of Work: Back in May, 2010 I was in the process of preparing my deceased parents' house for sale in Northborough, MA. Before going on the market, I had an inspection done and found that some chimney work was necessary. I hired a company based on BBB ratings (wasn't a member of Angie's list at that time). A person came from that company put a new liner in one of the chimneys and waterproofed the other. Due to a number of problems while the work was done, I decided to have it inspected and learned that the work had been done improperly. So, I joined Angie's list and found Kiwi Chimney Services (Brad Joyce).Brad gave me a quote of around $2,000 to fix the new liner, the capstone, retip(??) the chimney that had been "waterproofed" by the other company add a cleanout to one chimney and do some masonry work on the other.

I am very pleased with the work from start to finish. The estimate was completed in a timely manner. The work was done in the time frame he said it would be. I was also looking at another estimate but I felt Brad's solution was more of a long term solution and not just a quick fix. He came back to make a change to the bricks for me without any additional charge to me. Brad is professional and very knowledgeable - also guarantees his work. If i see any leaking he will come back out. I would highly recommend Brad and his team.
Description of Work: Brad, the owner of the company, came out to do the estimate. I was immediately comfortable with him - he is very friendly, professional and passionate about what he does. He explained in detail everything he would do and sent me an estimate in a timely manner. He did the job when he said he would and came to water proof the following week. I had the flashing repaired and the chimney rebuilt from the roof up. At no extra charge he also put sealer around a vent coming up through the roof from the bathroom. He also came back when I asked for the color of the bricks to be more uniform. He went over and above and I would highly recommend him!!

Brad from Kiwi got right back to me after my initial call. After getting a number of estimates, I agreed to go with Kiwi for this job, we set a date for the work to be completed. He arrived right on time and got right to work on the repairs. He was very pleasant, professional and accomodating. What a great job! I am very happy with the work he did. I would most definitely recommend Kiwi to all my family, friends and neighbors. Great work and great customer service!

I got in touch with Brad and he told me right off the bat that it would be 10 days or so until he could come give me an estimate. Yes, thats a long time, but he set expections correctly. I took it as a case of "the best people are in demand". When he did come out to the house, he gave our chimney and good once over and was transparent about how he could help and how he might not be the best person for the job. He made recommendations based on his experience on the types of resources and people I should talk to. to.
Description of Work: I didn't use these guys, but they're great. Very responsive. Very personable. And most of all, honest. Brad was clear about how he could best help me and how he couldn't. The work I needed was a little out of the ordinary for him and he was clear and honest about it. I could have gone with him (and he did give me that option) but in the end he pointed me in the right direction towards the best resources for the job.

It went great. Brad assessed the situation by looking at the furnace and by going up on the roof. He included me in all his assessments. He gave a really good price on a liner, which has a lifetime warranty, and a cap, and he gave a very reasonable estimate on the chimney. He told me it didn't need to be repointed, but acutally needed a crown. We made an appointment for him to come out a couple weeks later and he came today with his helper, Gary, who is also very professional. Brad called a few times to let me know he was on his way--an earlier job turned out to be more complicated that he orginally thought. Both guys were friendly, checked in often, and finished up with no mess. Brad told me he would follow up with a warranty card and a timeline for flue inspections to keep the warranty valid. And we said we'd touch base in the spring to do the crown. Overall, a great experience to work with a local, small business owner who does the estimates and the work himself for a really great price without skimping on quality. In addition, he's super nice, and the New Zealand accent is great!
Description of Work: I emailed Brad at Kiwi Chimney through Angie's List for an estimate on a metal liner and repointing. I was impressed by his immediate call back, especially since he called while he was travelling over the Thanksgiving weekend. He came the following week to do a thorough inspection of the furnace flue and the chimney.

We called Brad of Kiwi Chimney to inspect the two chimneys on our new home. Our home inspector said they needed considerable masonry work and recommended capping them also. We found Kiwi on Angie's List- and they were great! We called a few masons, got estimates and Kiwi was very competitive with price. More than that, Brad, the owner of Kiwi, was accommodating and friendly. He came out to the house and inspected our chimneys thoroughly including inside and outside- he even got on the roof and took pictures to show us what he was talking about. As first time homeowners, we know nothing about taking care of chimneys or fireplaces, but Brad spent a long time walking us through tips and tricks for getting the most out of our home's two fireplaces. He and his crew came out and spent two days on the roof in the blazing sun without complaint. He was fast and cleaned up well after the job was done. He took special care to match the new bricks with the existing bricks, and dyed the mortar to match so that the chimney wouldn't look patched. It came out great! Also, he showed us where future work may be required, but did not pressure us to do the more expensive projects as they were not necessary at this time. I thought this spoke volumes about his character, and trusted him completely with the job. We're very, very pleased with his work and will definitely call him to do any future work including chimney cleaning.
Description of Work: Two chimney stacks needed work. One is exterior, running along the side of the house- it needed to be demolished from the roof line up, rebuilt and capped- with some additional grinding and repointing along the side against the house. The second stack was repointed and capped. Both were waterproofed. Price included scaffolding.

My husband was home at the time of service. He found dealing with Brad and his associate a pleasure. Ironically, that evening our furnace wouldn't start. My husband contacted our furnace service company and they felt that it was possible their was something blocking the flue. They recommended that we contact Brad. We left a message for Brad and he quickly returned our call. Brad, having worked with other furnace service companies, explained that it was possible the furnace might need to be recalibrated (he had this occasionally occur after previous repairs). He was more than willing to speak directly with the furnace service company. As it turned out, our circulator on the furnace was bad and it had nothing to with Brad's work... merely a coincidence. But, what impressed us was Brad's willingness to come over or to speak with our furnace company. He even emailed us the following day to make sure everything was fine. We would definitely recommend him to others!
Description of Work: Brad installed 25' x 5" stainless steel chimney liner with super wrap insulation and connected it to the furnace, removed broken flue tiles, added an 8 x 8 flue extension, repaired the crown, installed a 51 x 17 x 10 stainless steel mesh cap, tuckpointed the entire chimney where needed, and added a 9 x 13 flue tile extension. All work was completed as scheduled.

good. the need for the chimney cap to be replaced was a surprise, but they showed us pictures of it and offered to leave behind the old one, or dispose of it for free. it was rotting/rusting out. i think there are places that are a little more inexpensive than BRad's shop for sweeps, but they are VERY clean, friendly, and very responsive to make appointments. a good customer experience.

Very careful, helpful in-person inspection given at no cost, following up concerns raised in professional home inspection. Rain delayed the work for a couple of weeks, but work was rescheduled and done quickly, carefully, and professionally, all with good humor and respect. Cleanup was thorough and complete.

They claimed the chimney could not be cleaned due to flaking and needed a liner installation. However I was charged $125 for the "inspection"; this charge had not been disclosed before. They had also turned the furnace off and forgot to turn it back on; that was simple enough to fix. They had also put on some furnace cement. The furnace cement came apart in a couple of months.

We called him to ask whether he would give an estimate the following business day. As he was coming into the city anyway, he agreed and arrived on time. He was prompt, had a quick turn around time and was available.
