Description of Work: We were contacted in a timely way and had a visit for an estimate. Gentle man showed up on time and was informative. We were told the work could be done, but really wasn't necessary at this time so we decided to wait.

Overall, I am very satisfied.
Description of Work: Brad, the owner, installed a chimney cap for a double flue chimney for $300. He also replaced piping that connects from the furnace to the chimney for $150. Both jobs were done well. In the future, as weather permits, he gave an estimate to tuckpoint the chimney (masonry repair) and replace a brick for $750. With my chimney which runs the full length of the two-story house, he will have to work from the ladder for the whole job which he said does cost more than working from the roof. I also plan to have him waterproof the chimney for $350 (10 year warranty), but will probably wait until next Spring based on his suggestion. The temperature needs to remain 45 degrees or higher for at least 6 hours after the waterproofing is done to and he's concerned that it may be an issue at this time of year. He said his quote will still be good for next season. He also looked at the flue and discovered at least four cracks in it. He said it would probably be $3,500-$4,500 to replace. HOWEVER, he gave his opinion that it may not be worth it. Instead, he suggested looking into installing a wood stove insert or similar option. He does not do this type of work, so he had nothing to gain and only to lose in terms of more work he could have done. This suggestion and his suggestion to wait to do the waterproofing until next Spring when he could have tried to make his money now, both illustrate his honesty, which is half the battle when finding a good contractor.

Overall it was okay. The downdraft issue made lighting a fire in our groundfloor fireplace difficult. He inspected the cap area and recommended the the spriong loaded thing but missed noting that there were sections cracked off and missing from the top two liner sections. I felt this contributed to smokiness in the house and that these should be fixed before the cap was installed. He and a helper came on a 25 degree day in December and replaced the top two liner sections and installed a rubber edged spring loaded cap. Then they removed the damper. The idea being the chimney fillls with warm air and starts drafting correctly when you open the cap. Install, clean-up etc. all good. Still gets smoky when we have a fire there so we use the second floor fireplace.
Description of Work: Install a spring loaded cap on the top of the chimney to be kept closed and thus reduce or eliminate having to induce a draft when lighting a fire. Remove the manual damper as pert of the installation. Initial estimate $350.00

I noticed water streaming down the walls of my attic and garage and immediately suspected the flashing. All the roofers I called wouldn't even do this type of work. I called Kiwi Roofing and they were very responsive. Brad identified the problem immediately of being a poor flashing job when the house was built. Definitely seemed like a person who would do a quality job. I decided that while I was at it I would have some cracks in the crown repaired and put a cap on as well as get the Chimney waterproofed. (Actually one of the roofing companies (Express Roofing) that I (initially) called gave me great advice to get it waterproofed as the bricks become pourous over time). I figured it was a great time to get it all done. Brad started the work soon after and did a great job. I went up to the attic during some heavy rains and things looked solid. Brad even was extremely particular on matching my roof shingles and came back a second day after another trip to Home Depot to make sure they were as close as he could get. Cleaned up well and all in all an extremely quality job. I would definitely use him again. Definitely this is one area you need to get right the first time!

After the big rains this spring, we found that our fireplace bricks were wet. Kiwi came out shortly after our contacting them and provided an estimate for the services. They determined that our chimney needed a custom cap and also needed to be waterproofed. Within a couple of weeks they procured the custom cap, scheduled the work, rescheduled it because of weather, and then came out and performed the work. They were very professional about it.

As part of a P&S, I needed to replace the chimney liner. Brad was great. He was willing to talk directly to the new owners who had some questions about what needed to be done--kept me out of the middle, which made my life easier. In addition, he had already explained everything to me, so I knew exactly what he was going to do and how he would do it. Once the repair was approved, Brad scheduled the work within the week. When he arrived he promptly set to work. I think it took him longer than he had anticipated because it was a tight fit, and the liner kept getting stuck--but he stuck to his price.

I especially liked how responsive Brad was. I had tried to have other contractors do this work last fall and had problems getting calls back and actually getting the work scheduled. Brad called me Sunday evening after I had left a message that morning. A few days later he was out at my house to do the estimate, and about a week after I had called he was actually doing the work. His prices were competitive, but not the absolute lowest quote that got. Given that other contractors offering lower quotes were far less reliable, the money was well spent. The quality of the work is perfect. I can't tell where the repairs are. With the cap and waterproofing, I'm confident that the chimney cracks will not happen again.
Description of Work: Repaired cracks in the mortar between the bricks near the top of the chimney ($650). Installed a chimney cap ($350), Cleaned the chimney ($150). Waterproofed the chimney ($300).

I called on Tuesday after I closed on the house, he showed up on Saturday with another guy. He set up his later with a hook because it had rained and the roof was slick (he asked me if it was ok before he did it.) and went to work. Hour and half later he was done and showed me his work and how it worked. He even swept my other chimney for me. He is a great guy you will like him a lot.
Description of Work: I bought a new house had Chimney issues, liner was gone and needs to be repointed. Called a few companies and Brad came out. Brad took a look and told me that I needed to repoint my chimney and a new liner. However the repointing could wait to spring. He told me to give him a call once I closed and he would come out and put in a new liner.
