When I called Gary he offered to meet with me the same day. I decided to schedule for the following day. He showed up exactly on time. He began by telling me a bit about his company, referencing his licensees, continuing education credits, and insurance. He troubleshooted my non-working bathroom fan and in the process taught me a lot about my home's electrical system. It turned out the fan and electrical system was working. It was simply that the fan was flipping the switch on a separate GFCI outlet in my bathroom. Gary took the time to inspect the fan too, just to make sure it was working well. Throughout all his work, he took time to teach me about my bathroom fan and about the benefits of having a grounded wire connected to a bathroom fan. When I asked him how much it was, he insisted that nothing was really broken that he "didn't do anything" and that it was going to be free. Wow! How often can you get a trained professional to come to your house for free and fix something! Amazing! Gary is warm, friendly, and highly professional. I would highly recommend him!
Description of Work: I called Gary because my bathroom fan stopped working. He troubleshooted the problem and determined that the bathroom fan was flipping a separate GFCI outlet in the bathroom. A simple reset of that outlet, and we were good to go!

I used an Angie's list coupon for 2 hrs. of service. Originally I asked for 3 wall switches to be replaced. Gary came to do an overview of the job and determine what type of switches he needed. He suggested a different type of dimmer switch for the dining room. The first switch, the one in the dining room, turned out to be a short in the fixture, so he removed the fixture and gave me the info on where I could get it rewired and cleaned. He offered to install a temp. fixture, but since I was going to put a different fixture there anyway, I told him it wasn't necessary. He then changed the other two switches, adding some length to the wires in one since the wires were very short. He worked quickly and efficiently, and was obviously very knowledgeable. He explained everything he was doing and why it was necessary. He was on time both visits, and finished within the projected time. I have already begun arrangements for him to return to do additional work, and will continue to use his services whenever I have an electrical problem.

Excellent. Gary is a very skilled electrician and conducts himself as a true professional.
Description of Work: Gary proved to be a true professional. I needed a separate electrical source for my new dishwasher. Gary came twice, once to assess the job and secondly to complete the task. He showed up when he said he would and did the job very efficiently and according to code. The job was not as straightforward as you may think. There was some maneuvering to get the wire in the correct spot. Gary only charged me $28. for the materials needed. I originally purchased his Angie deal of two hours work for $89. I could not be happier with the outcome. I will be calling him for any future electrical needs.

He showed up on time, did the job with minimal fuss and replaced everything he had moved. :Prior and during the process he walked us around his plan and showed us what and how he was accomplishing the task. He was courteous, professional and fairly priced. He also seemed hard working, ethical, and generally a nice guy. Gary did not mark up price of his materials and indeed supplied some stock at no charge. We would recommend him to anyone for household electrical jobs.

Gary's great! He quickly responded to my call and arranged a convenient time to give an estimate. His estimate was $250. He suggested that I get a replacement motor for the fan instead of replacing the whole fan since it was only 2 years old. I was able to get the replacement motor for free from the manufacturer. However the fan had not arrived in time for Gary to replace it when he did the other work. He completed the outside outlets and the removal of the one connection quickly and efficiently. when the fan arrived, Gary came back to install it and didn't charge me for the additional trip!! Total cost came in under what was quoted. Thanks, Gary. Great job. I will definately use Gary again.

Gary is a consummate professional. He returned my phone call in less than 24-hours, the next day he was out to look at the work I wanted done, and even though he had a heavily-booked schedule, he fit my job in before the week was out. The first day he came, he showed me his journeyman and master electrician's license and insurance, even though I didn't ask. I'm glad he did because it's something I hardly think about, but as a homeowner and a landlord, I really should (according to all the home buyer's workshops I took). While he was working, he showed and explained to me everything he was doing which, again, is something I appreciate as a first-time home buyer who is still getting to know how basic things in my home work. It's clear he really knows his field and has had experience working on old homes like mine with seemingly ancient electrical systems and fixtures. In addition, as a few other reviewers have mentioned, he made sure everything was absolutely clean and in order before he left. Actually, I suspect he's a neat freak. And because he was working in the bedroom of my roommate, who let's just say, is definitely not a neat freak, I'm was even more impressed. That may have been the toughest part of the job for him, but he didn't bat an eye. Finally, what made the experience even better for me is that I got all this done courtesy of the Angie's Big Deal, 2 hours of electrical work for $89. I'm certain he would have finished in under two hours if we hadn't been trading so many stories. If I could give him an overall A+ I would, but sadly the highest mark on Angie's is an A :).
Description of Work: Gary took down an old, noisy, ceiling fan from one of the bedrooms and replaced it with a new, flush mount light fixture. He also did some troubleshooting on a what I thought was a broken motion-detector connected to the stairway light in the foyer. By disassembling both the motion-detector and the light, he figured out that it was actually some malfunctioning wires in the light fixture and not the motion detector that was the problem. I have to buy a new jelly jar light fixture to replace the faulty one, but once I do, I definitely will be calling Gary back to install it. In the meantime, thankfully, he did something to the wires (which I don't have the technical language to describe) so I won't shock myself.

Gary is wonderful. I'm thrilled he had the coupon (2 hours for $89), otherwise I may not have met him. He returned my call the same day that I left a message, and was out to do the work 2 days later. Gary did a beautiful job of mounting my flat screen television onto a brick chimney. It was pretty challenging as he had to run both electric and cable wiring behind the brick and the television so no cords were showing. He also took down an old fan and hung a new dining room light. Gary was on time, professional and didn't mind working with me when I was trying to decide how high to hang the lamp. Very thorough, methodical and even cleaned up after himself!

We initially met with Gary at the building and walked through all the apartments to review the project. He was a good problem solver and provided some good and creative suggestions on how to resolve issues that saved us money. A week later he gave us a thorough quote that outlined the work and supplies he would be providing and what were our responsibilities. We signed the contract, gave him a deposit and he started the job soon after. We found Gary to be an excellent electrician who is knowledgeable, dependable and professional. He was methodical and very, very, experienced. He started with the rewiring of the walls and stripped out the old wiring. He put in boxes and made sure we had outlets on every walls. He also ran cable wiring and lines specifically for the air conditioners and dryers. After the painters finished he returned to start the finish work which included all the outlets, switches, hood fan, light fixtures and ceiling fans as well as a designated for the dryer. In the basement, Gary ran all the new wiring to the panel all nice and neat and he added new circuits and labeled everything. It was obvious that Gary had worked on large projects because he was very organized which was crucial for a job this size and he was a good communicator. He kept us informed of what was happening and what decisions we needed to make. At times we changed some things on him and he gave us an estimate on the work helping us with our decisions and no attitude! Gary also worked well with our other contractors and made sure there were plenty of outlets and lights so they could work as well. Gary finished all three apartments in on-budget and on-time and we easily passed all the electrical inspections! We liked his work so much we re-wired all the common areas and the exterior of the building. I cannot recommend Gary enough out of all of our contractors working with him was the smoothest and easiest and we have a great product to show for it!!!!
Description of Work: Completely re-wired three apartments, 1,000 sq. ft. each. Project included obtaining permits and all rough and finish work, e.g. new circuits in the panel, wiring in the walls, appliances lines, outlets, switches, cable, numerous light fixtures and ceiling fans.

I started working with Gary back in January in regards to a condo that we owned. The garbage disposal needed to be replaced, and we had three lights in the kitchen that we wanted replaced as well. Gary himself never showed up to these jobs, he sent his brother Greg. I had to schedule twice in the beginning with greg, because he called me back AFTER I had called him twice due to our tenant calling to state that he never showed up. When he finally did call, he stated that he was having a bad day, his car broke down in the middle of traffic, etc. We rescheduled, and after another cancelation I called his brother Gary who is the owner and runs the company to inform him that we needed to know what was going on. We have tenants to respond to, Greg finally showed up and installed the garbage disposal. He took the lights apart and we told him to just replace them. He never replaced the lights to this day. He did replace the garbage disposal-AFTER borrowing $29.00 from our TENANT to get the part. He knew in advance what the job entailed, and the fact that he not only showed up unprepared, but unprofessionally borrowed the money from our tenant, was completely ill practice. I have been managing commercial and residential properties for 8 years, and have worked with NUMEROUS contractors, BUT NEVER in all the years have I experienced such actions. I never heard from them again about the lights and we ended up using JA Electric, who showed up the very next day, and it was an hour and half labor, where Gary and Greg had quoted us 9 hours for the job.. Ridiculous,, luckily I know enough about the industry and alloted times jobs showed be quoted for, so 9 hours was completely off the charts, which I knew right away. We received a bill in the mail about a week ago for $372.00 for installing the garbage disposal. He charged us $22 for the part, and 7 hours of labor. I called Gary to discuss the invoice because it does not take 7 hours to REPLACE a garbage disposal, and inspect 3 lights in a kitchen. Gary informed me that the guy he sent there, which was his brother, had to make two trips to home depot that day for the part to do the job, which regardless, sure as heck did not take 7 hours. Furthermore, the tenant had called me upon Greg's arrival that day to the unit, AND upon his departure. So, he wasn't even there for HALF of that time to begin with, including his two trips to home depot=which for starters, no individual hiring for services pays for contractors to go shopping for supplies, and he states clearly here on Angies list that they do not charge travel times. Gary was immediately short, and completely disrespectful when I informed him that I did not agree to the charges of 7 hours of labor. His exact words in many of the times he repeatedly interrupted me and spoke louder during each time i was speaking, he stated that "all I needed to do was sit down on Monday, write him a check and put it in the mail, it was that simple." My reply was that I would definitely put the check in the mail for him, but I refused to pay 7 hours of labor for that and after the treatment, being blown off six times, having his brother borrow money from our tenant, i was extremely annoyed with their company and practices. Gary asked what I would pay, and I informed him that I would pay the $22 for the part and 4 hours of labor which was already more than generous for installing what most licensed professionals and contractors would charge 2 hours. Gary said fine, and that he would never do work for us again, which I replied that hearing for him several months after never going back to finish the second job, we had already made the decision to not use him again and went with a different professional. He started swearing and I interrupted him stating that the check would be in the mail and this conversation was over. I hung up after that and have not heard anything since. I highly recommend researching several contractors before making a decision to go to this guy. In the beginning he acts extremely nice professional and eager to get the job done, but slacks off and starts pulling you around. Again, in the many areas and many contractors used over the years, this was definitely the worst experience ever.

It went well in the beginning but once he was paid, he didn't fulfill his verbal contract to adjust the fans to our satisfaction. Will never use him again. Very unprofessional. Just dropped off the face of the planet. Guess he figured we were a client he didn't need to keep.
Description of Work: We had first used hired Gary to install motion-detector lights in our common areas/staircases. He was very prompt, friendly and gave us a fair price. The work was completed to our association's satisfaction. The second job he was hired for was to install 4 ceiling fans in our personal condo. He was very professional up to the point where he was paid in full and promised to come by to secure the fans, which were wobbly. He was supposed to come by on a Sunday. He called and said his car broke down. I texted him another time and date to come by and he called me back and left a message stating what time worked for him. I texted back (I was at work) that I agreed and we'd see him on Sunday at 9am, he didn't respond. I called a left a message the day before he was supposed to come by to confirm. He did not show up and left a message stating that that was too short of notice to let him know we wanted to do the work. Confused, we discussed it on the phone and I thought cleared it up. He stated that he did not get my second text (although somehow he got my first). Anyhow, we set another date for the adjustments to the fans, and again, he never showed up and never called. I left him a message a few days later and it's been almost 2 months later and I have never heard from him again. Very disappointed.

We called Gary because we remodeled our apartment and wanted to replace old light fixtures and fans. At the same time we were experiencing a short with some electrical that would work periodically. I've worked with Gary before and he consistently provides an outstanding level of quality work and customer service. Gary returned our call the same day I called and we scheduled a meeting the following day for our free estimate. Gary was prompt, professional and knowledgeable. He gave us a better price than the other electricians we contacted and took us through the troubleshooting process, we always know what's happening and why. He gave us a flat fee for the light fixture and an hourly price to do the troubleshooting. On the days he came to do the work, he was efficient, neat and thorough. He finished everything within the time frame and quickly found the short which saved us money, also no wobbly fans. We are thrilled!
