They did show up and take measurements, however, we could never get them to return our calls to provide us with an estimate. I guess our job was too small for them. Too bad, because we are doing over $100k of work and had more projects, which will now be going to other contractors.
Description of Work: We had J&J Flooring come out to give us an estimate for three things: (1) tile a fireplace, (2) tile a half bath, and (3) kitchen backsplash. T

Excellent work. I contacted J&J and was able to set up an estimate within a few days. They showed up on time, had good suggestions, and the estimate was completed that afternoon. I felt it was very reasonable and booked them for a few weeks later (we could have done sooner but I needed time to prep the room). They even recommended a local tile showroom I could go to pick products. I paid the showroom directly and J&J picked up the supplies the morning of the job. The installation went very well. Very thorough, quick work. It was supposed to take 2 days but a pipe began leaking very unexpectedly during the first morning. Jay was very flexible and finished the prep work, then left me to fix the pipe. He returned the following 2 days to finish the job. Even though it took an extra day and meant an extra trip for them, I was charged the same amount. They cleaned up when completed and the floor looks great. I asked for an estimate on a second bathroom when they originally came out. Once this first project is complete I plan to schedule them for that job as well.

J&J was punctual and responsive from the start. From the estimate to doing the work each day, they showed up EXACTLY when they said they would. We ran in to some unexpected problems with our existing subflooring, and they called a contractor contact out for a second opinion. They worked with us to come up with a reasonable solution (eg, not ripping up the whole entire subfloor and not ignoring the problem altogether). They really could have ignored the problem altogether but were great about explaining their options. The finished product is exactly what we wanted. It is perfectly neat and very precisely done. I would use them again in a heartbeat, and in fact plan to for a kitchen project.

It was pretty positive. Jay was very helpful. He directed us to a tile place that had the tile we were looking for and we had not been able to find it anywhere else. Once we got the tile he gave us choices. He came when he said he would and got the work done pretty quickly. It looks great.
Description of Work: We ripped up part of our floor to put in a drain. They came in and repaired the floor and put in the rest of the tile that matched.

Jair was prompt in scheduling and writing up an estimate. They completed the job in 3 consecutive days, keeping the rest of the house clean in the process with a careful job covering things with plastic. We discussed major alignments of the floor and wall tiles to achieve what we were looking for. All of the major transitions (from countertop to tile, floor to cabinet, and wood floor to tile floor) were handled beautifully. We were very pleased with the outcome and will use Jair again for future tile jobs.

They did an excellent job. I had them give me a quote on laying tile when I was looking to re-do my two bathrooms. I ultimately decided to go with a general contractor, who ironically enough, used J&J to do the tile work. Therefore, I didn't pay them directly, and am not certain what they ultimately were paid through the general contractor. However, they were punctual, and clearly knew what they were doing. The final product was excellent and we are very happy.

J&J were very professional and always arrived when they said they would. They worked every day from 8 am until 6 or later so the job was completed in 4 days + a few hours on the 5th day. The tile install is gorgeous and we are 100% happy with the tile placement, matching between edges, and the careful cutting they did to install the shelves. They cleaned up really well. I would definitely hire them again, but there are 2 things I would ask them to do differently (these might not bother other people). The first is that the grout is not as deep in places as I think it should be (i.e. I worry mildew may grow there and I won't be able to reach it because the grout is not close enough to the tile surface). The second is that they used off-white caulk and its fairly noticeable. They were very nice and offered to caulk some areas they didn't tile, but with the off-white caulk I probably would have preferred to do it myself with a white caulk.
Description of Work: J&J re-tiled our built-in shower, a very awkward space because it is built against a sloping ceiling and so there are some difficult angles. They demolished and removed the old wall tile, floor tile, and cement board behind. They then installed new cement board and installed floor tile, wall tile including a detail incorporating mini marble tiles & pencil edging, 3 marble corner shelves, and a built-in soap dish.

It couldn't have gone better. J&J are very professional, flexible, and friendly. They have an excellent work ethic. We would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: Laid ceramic tile floors in a mudroom, laundry room and bathroom. Laid ceramic floor and walls around tub, including a recessed niche in the wall, in a second bath. In the large master bath they laid the tile floor in the bathroom, in the walk-in shower, tiled the walls of the shower, including a decorative pattern using rope tiles, and a recessed niche and a corner seat. It turned out beautifully.

They were excellent. In particular, they proved up to doing some very challenging glass mosaic tiles that were on walls and ceilings. But my favorite is that I decided to demo a bathroom literally 5 days before a major party and they managed to get it done prior to the party. Their pricing is fair and the workers are incredibly courteous.
Description of Work: They did floor and wall tiles for 3.5 bathrooms, including recycled glass mosaic tile walls and ceilings, subway style tiles, and eco-friendly floor tiles. The master bathroom in particular was very complex work.

Jay ended up having to remove the old slate tile with the plywood underneath. He installed new plywood, new hard-backer board, and new tile. Jay did a great job laying the tile. He cut the tile perfect all the way around the staircase and wall trim. He cleaned up the job site and even went into the basement to sweep the debris that fell through the floor. He did an excellent job and I am very satisfied.

We would recommend J&J Flooring. We got three estimates - they were all comparable but we chose J&J because they were the easy to work with, responsive, and punctual (they were also marginally lower cost than the other quotes). When we initially called they actually answered the phone and scheduled an estimate for later that week (nobody else managed that). When we called to schedule the work, they were ready to begin the next day. Despite a minor delay (the old horsehair plaster behind the back splash had to be replaced with new drywall) they were able to stick with the job each day and finish in three days (Friday, Saturday, and Monday). This was faster than expected, and the additional work of replacing the wall behind the back splash was done at very reasonable cost. Finished product looks great and we would definitely recommend J&J.
Description of Work: Rip out about 30 sq feet of kitchen back splash and replace with 4x4 ceramic tile laid in a straight grid (no decorative design). Also rip out about 90 sq feet of linoleum flooring and replace with 12x12 ceramic tile laid in a straight grid (no decorative design) - this includes a mud room and a half bath with lots of corners and cutting. Cost does not include tile and grout.

They came 3 weeks ago to give an estimate ad they arrived punctually. They emailed the estimate that night, as they said they would. Their estimate was fair priced and they gave a date when they work could be completed. They also agreed to pick up the tile and grout I had previously ordered. They arrived on as specified. They were efficient, courteous and neat (they cleaned up after themselves each day). It took them about 5 hours to install the tile, and then approximately two hours the next day to grout it. Things were well finished, and they were responsive to feedback I gave during the grouting process. Overall, they did a great job! The only possible flag I had, is that they did not ask many questions, such as: how to lay out the ceramic, where the focal point/center of the tiles should be, or how thick I wanted the grout lines to be (for ceramic). Fortunately, I remembered to specify some of these things, and I suggest others do the same, if they forget to ask.

I am pretty happy with J&J's work on this project. They were very responsive initially and worked hard to make the schedule I had proposed. The old floor was not level and had many years of existing flooring on it. They removed all the old linoleum layers and leveled a floor that was significantly bowed towards the center. The floor looks great and I'm amazed how level they managed to get it. The backsplash work was also nice. However, they didn't do a great job removing all the excess grout from there. I had to wash it a few times and a few spots still aren't 100% clean. Overall I'm very satisfied.
Description of Work: J&J removed 3 layers of old linoleum tile from the floor and disposed of it. Then they leveled the floor and put down a new ceramic backer-board over the last layer of tile. They put down 12 x 12 tiles along with a 8 x 12 border around the edge and then grouted the floor. Also they put up 6 x 6 tiles for my backsplash and grouted it.

J & J is efficient, fast and friendly. The day after we first called, they came out to see the job and explained the options we had for installation of ceramic tile over an existing plywood subfloor. The next day they e-mailed a price estimate for each option. A week later the job was finished. The new floor looks great and we are completely satisfied with the work.

J & J was very professional over the phone, came promptly out to give us an estimate. They recommended a very good tile store to us where he got discounts on tile. Because our kitchen floor was almost as high as the surrounding rooms without the tile, they recommended we go with a thinner yet more expensive base for the tiles so that the kitchen floor did not sit well above the level of surrounding room floors. We asked them to do the work and they showed up exactly when they said they would and quickly got our tiles down, despite a delay in the delivery of the shipment due to a snow storm. It looks great, the floor which once squeaked no longer does, and we are very glad they recommended the thin under tile base. They covered the floors for the cutting of tile. They did leave a small smattering of dirt from cutting the tiles on a nearby refrigerator but other than that they were perfect.

The initial estimate was done promptly, more courteously,in more detail, and with a price quote about 30% less than another top Angie rated floor covering company. The work also started promptly only 2 weeks after the contract agreement. Quality of work was very good. The principal installer has over 20 years of experience. The company has less than ten workers, mostly from Brazil, but with high efficiency and professionalism. I would rehire, and also recommend, them for additional home improvement projects.
Description of Work: House was built in the 1950s. A finished rec room in the basement is 14 x 28 square feet, covered with old (probably original) linoleum tiles still in fairly good condition. About 430 square feet of new porcelain ceramic tiles were installed, diagonal over VCT. Furniture was moved out and then put back. The work was done with 2-3 persons in two and half days, including final cleaning. Payment 50% at starting and 50% after completion, for all materials and labor.

My husband called J & J for an estimate and one of the J's came later that same day. The estimate was about $1000. The bill came to $1000. My husband is reluctant to hire anyone as he is very particular, but we are so happy with this job, we have asked them to do another floor. We did not use fancy tile (mid-priced stock from Lowe's) but our new kitchen looks beautiful! When we told them how happy we were, they said they just love what they do, and it shows.
Description of Work: We needed to replace our kitchen floor and pantry floor (about 165 square feet) and planned to do it ourselves. We ripped up the old tile and put down plywood underlayment, but were unable to complete the job. They put down backer board laid the tile and applied the grout.

Description of Work: I made an appointment with Jay to come and look at a bathroom floor. The underfloor needed to be replace and/or rebuilt and the tile on top of that floor needed to be taken up and replaced. He never showed for the appointment and didn't call. J&J flooring came the day after we called them and then followed up with an estimate promptly. They suggested two approaches and accurately told us how much time the job would take. They were able to do the job the following week. They removed all the old floors and put down cement backing as a base for the tile. They cut the tile to fit into all the nooks in the kitchen and it looks great. They cleaned up everything and always showed up when they said they would. The estimate was very reasonable and didn't change. They set our expectations regarding how long we would be inconvenienced and always were professional. I would recommend them and would use them again.
Description of Work: We needed a new floor after installing cabinets in our 5x10 kitchen, several layers of old laminate and plywood were exposed and we needed someone who knew how to clean up the original floor and also cut tile we already had bought to fit around all the corners.

Jay was fantastic. Very easy to talk to. Actually answered phone when I first called, no answering machine. Came out next day to give estimate. Always called me on the day he said he would to work out scheduling. Very prompt 7:30 a.m. morning arrivals. Cleaned up after work was done and carted away all debris. I picked up new tiles, grout mix and threshold (less than $100) and he supplied the rest. Had to cut around a single pipe steam radiator with zero play in pipe that had to remain on sub-floor and did a great job with that, much better than I had expected. Did all wet saw tile cutting outdoors (in January!). Even showed me grout spots around tub that he said I should take care of now myself before they became major problems. Highly recommend Jay. He should be your first call for tiling.
