Description of Work: Insulation in attic and outside walls. They did the attic insulation on short notice after I had issues with another company and came back several weeks later to do outside insulation. They are professional and show up when they say they will. We are very happy with the results!

It was fantastic. It was clear all the way through the process that the folks at McLaughlin had my best interests in the forefront of their minds. Also, the quality of the work was outstanding - they were thorough, honest, and efficient. I've already referred many close friends and family to McLaughlin (and plan to continue doing so) - I can't recommend them highly enough!

Description of Work: McLaughlin's crew insulated the walls of my house with blow-in cellulose insulation. They came on time, did a thorough job and left the house and grounds clean. They even deducted a few bucks for a small section of wall that was already insulated.

We had a great experience using McLaughlin Weatherization. They were referred to us by a green building company who felt that our attic insulation project (but not full renovation) was too small for them to handle. After our energy audit by CSG, we requested that they specifically be assigned to do our weatherization. We had a lot of questions and a rather non-standard plan for our attic, and so far have been given all the patient support we've needed through site visits and phone calls. They were flexible in dealing with our timing restrictions due to needing to have new ductwork installed in the attic prior to weatherization (so that they could seal it). They use good products - high quality cellulose (like most of the companies around here, since it's locally produced) and even formaldehyde-free fiberglass. The insulation and weatherstripping have done wonders for making the house feel less drafty, and the attic hatch dome (really more of a rectangle missing one side that velcros down over the pull-down stairs entrance, with some heat-reflective material) really does a great job of keeping the heat of the second floor separated from the cold of the attic. On the days of work, their people came in, got to work quickly (after getting a tour from us to coordinate the MassSave notes and the actual house), and were very efficient (helped by us preparing the attic for the work). The only issue we had during the process was that one of the new bathroom fan vents leaked during a (heavy) rainstorm the day after installation. I contacted the company, and they sent someone out quickly to replace it (turns out it had been punctured or the like during installation). While I prefer there not to be any issues during a house repair project, the most important thing is to have it acknowledged and fixed quickly without any fuss, which is exactly what happened (also, luckily, it was before the cellulose had been installed in that area). (Also, we haven't proactively been given any information as to the difference in the blower door tests before and after the weatherization, although I've been meaning to call just out of curiosity.) We plan to have them out for phase two of our attic renovation (walls and ceiling) before next summer.
Description of Work: McLaughlin performed the following, per the MassSave energy audit specification: - Dense pack cellulose under the attic floor - Loose pack cellulose in the attic eaves and garage attic - Soffit vent installation (with baffles) - Reroute of bathroom fans out the roof - Minor fiberglass insulation in the basement and garage - Air sealing throughout the attics and in some places in the house (apparently, around water pipes under sinks) - Weatherstripping on doors - Attic hatch dome for pull-down attic stairs - General consultation for attic insulation

I was referred to McLaughlin Weatherization from the Mass Save program after having an energy audit. McLaughlin Weatherization left me a voice mail with their contact information and we arranged to have them do a day of insulation work. Things seemed to be going okay when they showed up. They got working testing the house for air flow. However, we quickly ran into some issues. A lot of the work recommended by Mass Save was apparently not possible. I don't think this was McLaughlin Weatherization's fault but they didn't give me a very good explanation of why they couldn't do the work. The biggest issue I had was with a thermal dome for my attic. They built the dome in a way that didn't fit my attic door and then claimed they couldn't modify it for my house. I ended up without getting the thermal dome at all.Lastly, they made a huge mess in my house and outside. They left large pieces of foam in my crawlspace and living areas. They also left foam insulation outside where they had been cutting it. They could've cleaned it up in just a few minutes but didn't. I wouldn't use them again.
