The cleaning was pushed back due to weather and they ended up coming while we were away on vacation. I asked them to make sure everything was cleaned up and hidden from view afterwards since we wouldn't be home for a few days. Everything looked great when we got back and gutters were flowing again.

They were originally supposed to show up on Thursday, but I called when no one showed and was told that all the rain in the Spring had pushed them back and they would try to come Friday. I had taken off 2 days from work - it would have been nice if they had called me ahead of time to tell me this - I don't get paid for time off. They came on Friday but were 2 hours late. It was somewhat difficult getting a contract done that included all the items we had agreed to verbally. All was done by email after the initial verbal estimate and took a lot of back and forth. Contractor kept leaving things out and it took weeks to get the contract stating what we had agreed to. Contractor agreed to terms in the contract that stated the workers were all his legal employees covered under liability and workers compensation, however, when the workers arrived they were a non-English speaking crew in an unmarked van with their own tools and wouldn't speak with me directly. They did a very good job, were efficient, obviously skilled, and cleaned up very well (only 4 nails found in driveway later on) but I don't really believe they were company employees - I'm pretty sure they were subcontractors - not what I wanted. Contractor had agreed to have a supervisor on site during the work, however, when I left for an errand, there was no supervisor present when I returned and after 3 hours I called the son who was surprised that the father had left. They subsequently told me that the father had to go to the ER for a heart problem but the son was not informed and so no supervisor could be sent to the site. I really didn't like that there was no supervisor on site all afternoon and that I couldn't communicate with the workers. The one worker who spoke some English would only say the boss was coming back soon. So 2 main things that were important to me - using legal company employees and having a supervisor on site were not adhered to. One item that they agreed to do - repitch my gutters - they reneged on saying it "wasn't necessary." I probably should not have paid up until they did it that but it was getting late in the day and I believed him - but found out later in the next heavy rain that it was really necessary to repitch them. I've since had to hire someone else to accomplish that. The owner expressed his opinion that the price he gave me was too low and he didn't make enough profit to make it worth his while. It was the price that he advertised on Angies List for $6,500.00 I did have 3 offers at that price. The roof looks very nice, they repaired some boards that were broken too, and worked very hard. I haven't climbed into the attic crawlspace yet to look around. Been waiting for the weather to cool. I did get a guarantee from the manufacturer (GAF) which I'm told means the installation work was done according to manufacturer specs. I never saw the Building Permit and had to ask for it afterwards before I would do this review. They pressed for an Angies List review so here it is. They were courteous and respectful. Additionally, they were supposed to send a carpenter to give me estimates on other work I need done, but after 2 reminders, I still haven't heard anything. But I'm no longer interested in having them doing any other work anyway.

This is another review that I am shocked to see as we worked extremely close with the member to do everything she asked and it took over two dozen emails and several visits to the property to make sure everything was done to her satisfaction which she said was done before we left her property for the last time. The last week of May and first week of June were extremely wet and the two weeks of rain pushed our scheduling back quite a bit. Even through this, we managed to still complete this roof only one day after the contract start and still finished on the same completion date on the original contract. We were an hour late for the original time we said we would start 7:30 but this was due to a flat tire on one of our vans that we had fixed in the same town as the member, and I did call her to explain this to her. We did arrive at the same time as the material delivery so we did not loose any time on the actual job and still finished by the end of the original agreed day. I showed up with my crew, in all marked vehicles, of the pickup truck I drive, and the two vans my guys drive, with our company logo on each vehicle so I am not sure what the member is referring to. The member did have an issue with some of the workers not speaking English and I told her that all of our guys are trained by us and GAF and that I could show her certificates of their training to show they were trained and worked for us which she said was not necessary. I am not sure why she is bringing this up now, as maybe she had an issue with people who speak Spanish working on her home. I worked setting up our equipment and I unloaded my truck in front of her and spent the entire morning at the property, half the time on the roof making sure there were no issues when striping the old roof and then the other half beginning to install the new roof. I had to leave to go to the distributor to get more material that was needed to finish the job the same day and the local branch was out and I had to drive to another one further away. I returned with the material and the homeowner was upset that I was not there, due to the fact that my father had to go to the hospital for his cardiac rehab. So would the member have been happier that I stayed, in the middle of the install when no supervision was needed, and not finish the same day, and extend the job for another day, even though she had complained about scheduling issues. I am not sure what the complaint is when she argues it from both ends. I was there with the material was needed, I supervised the final work and we cleaned up at the end of the job. My father and I even returned another day to walk around the property and finish any of the small issues the member had regarding the job. We even repaired gutters in the rear of the home that was not part of the original contract for free. At no point did my father mention anything about not pitching the other gutters due to a profit margin. In regards to weeks going by about the contract, the member wanted 11 items added to the estimate and contract that she emailed to me on May 9. I emailed her back with all the changes the same day. On May 13, she requested 3 references that I emailed to her on May 14. On May 16 she said she would print up contract and mail it in after she picked a color. On May 20th, we went back and forth almost a dozen times with small wording she wanted added, removed, then put back on the contract. I had to explain to her that the contract is a template provided by the Office of Consumer Affairs to satisfy a new law on how contracts have to be written between a contractor and a homeowner to be legal in MA. She wanted wording taken out that I told might make the contract violate these laws, she still made me take it out, then changed her mind later that day to put the wording back in. This was all done on two different occasions over one day, so for the member to infer that it took me weeks to change wording she asked for, and to make it look like it was a negative thing on my part is not just unfair but dishonest. On May 21 she asked me for another copy of the insurance cert because she lost the original. On June 5, I emailed her about the previous two weeks of rain and that we would still fit her in on the next day to do the roof and finished the same day, fulfilling the original contract.

I bought a Big Deal for this firm to clean my gutters, intending to use the service in the autumn, after the leaves fell; I had had my gutters cleaned at the end of last year and they didn't need cleaning again until fall. One day I got a message that said they'd already done the work. They gave me no opportunity to choose the date or to be present when the work was done. I called them to complain and they said they'd sent a message saying that they would be working in my area that week. (That's obviously very different from getting my approval for a date.) They said they had too many jobs to make individual arrangements. I reluctantly said that I would pay them to come back again, after the leaves fell and the work was actually needed. They said they would call to set a date but they didn't. This aligns with my previous experience regarding many Big Deals. The companies get overloaded and, even if they were highly rated before, they can't handle the volume and do a sloppy--or in this case completely useless--job.

This member has left out most of the parts of the communication between himself, our company, and Angie's list customer service. The member purchased this Big Deal on June 4 and never contacted us initially. I reached out and emailed the member on June 13, asking on when they would like to schedule the gutter cleaning and to see if he had any existing issues with the house. I never heard back from the member and so almost a month later I emailed the member again on July 10, informing him that we would be in his area over the next week and that we would be performing the service, unless they got back to our company. I then emailed the member again after the service was performed on his house. The member then finally responded to my email very negatively, asking in so many words why I would come out to his home without checking with him first. I sent him an email back explaining the several attempts I made over the past month trying to get a hold of him. I tried to explain the situation and then offered to come out again in the late fall, free of charge, to do the service again as he wanted us to. The last email I received he thanked me for offering to come out gain and said he wanted me to come out in late Dec and I thought we had left it at that. Then I received another email from customer service at Angie's List stating that this member was looking to get a refund on 9/5, because he had not been contacted by me and wanted a refund unless I agreed to come out in late Dec to do the gutter cleaning. I responded on 9/5 and forwarded all the emails to them showing that in fact I did already discuss this with the member and we had agreed that I would in fact go out in late Dec. I got a response on 9/9 that they thanked me and I thought everything was all set again. Then I get this nasty review from the member and he mistates all the facts and describes what took place for a 3rd time completely as if the first two times with two separate parties never took place. I would expect someone who works for Harvard University to be a bit more honest and upstanding on their interpretations of fact and how this actually took place.

They never got back to me. I was kind of bombed. I left a message and they called me back almost immediately and came out and looked at the roof almost immediately. It was a father and son and I liked them very much and asked good questions, they explained things to me and said they'd have a quote within a few days and that was a month ago. I followed up by phone and email and I did get an email back to have a quote by Monday and that was 2 weeks ago.

I got an email on 6/17 saying they came by, i did get a business card in the mail box as proof. The email also indicated I would get a roof inspection report that I still did not get to this day (8/12/2013). I can see my gutters from the bedroom and they were not totally clean out, there was still dirt and grime on them. I feel like they just came whenever it was convenient to them to perform this. I was not told when they would drop by at all and I was not here when this happen so how am I suppose to know they performed the job? Obviously they didn't because I didn't get the roof inspection report. I should be refunded my money.

We went out to the property after trying to schedule a gutter cleaning with this member who did not return our emails on the first two tries. Our last email sated that we would be doing the service by geographical area and that we would be in his area soon. We never heard back and when we went out to the property, most of the gutters had gutter guards. The Big Deal is very specific and states that the deal is not valid for homes that have gutter guards, we tried to clean the gutters as best we could but did not finish and left the card for the homeowner to reach us as he had not responded in our previous attempts. The member did not, and the only time we have heard from him was through this review.

After I submitted payment to take advantage of Angies List "Big Deal," provider sent email saying they wanted to know any questions or concerns I had, and that provider would contact me to schedule service visit. I wrote back saying I thought there were some leaks or places that gutters were overflowing. I also questioned whether it would make more sense to schedule the cleaning in the fall after leaves were off the trees (time frame was covered by terms of "Big Deal"). I received generic mailing from provider saying that they had a large response to Angies List Big deal and were in the process of scheduling visits. Next communication I received from provider informed me that crew had come and performed service and they would notify me if they had noticed any problems. I replied, pointing out that they had not responded to my questions and had not contacted me to schedule the service visit as they had promised. I added that I would express my dissatisfaction in my review on Angies List. (I did not do so at the time, hoping they would contact me and be more responsive to my questions.) Provider sent me an email saying that because of the large volume of interest they had simply scheduled all the service visits (I guess without making arrangements with the customers) and that they would review the notes from their service visit to my house and follow up on my questions. Nearly 4 weeks have elapsed and I have not heard from the provider. At this point I thought it appropriate to share my experience in this review.

My experience with Michael F. Nash & Sons Inc. worked out well. The inspection took about 20 minutes. It was from the ground. They're very friendly. It's him and his son, I think. Then they sent me the report.I haven't done any of the repairs, but in terms of what they said they would provide for the amount of money, which was the inspection, they did exactly that.

The inspection and report were thorough and well done. However, it was a nightmare of calls, emails, and finally threats of poor reviews to get the report delivered months later. We ended up using a different company to do the roof repairs because of this. I understand that the family who owns the company had personal issues during this time that contributed to these problems. Had they been better communicators, those issues wouldn't have impacted the work so dramatically.

Jeremiah was very good to work with. Occasionally there were some delays, but I know it was just becuase he was busy, and nothing too major to really complain about. Once we got the estimate, he was very easy to talk to and he was happy to explain it when we had questions. We did hire them to do the work - it took a little while to have the work scheduled because of some rain delays, but once it started they were completely done in two days. They had left behind some materials, but other than that the area was left clean. The work they did is great - we now have the best looking roof on the street! Everything they did was top quality. I even had a home inspector say that the roof looks great now, and that we got a very good deal on it. I would definiltely recommend them to friends, and should I ever need another roof, I will use them again.

Communication is poor to non-existent. I never received contact from them for three weeks upon purchasing my Angie's List coupon for their gutter cleaning service, I attempted three times by email and twice by phone to contact them. Their phone number answers with a generic answering service, and they NEVER respond to this. They never responded to their emails either. I had to actually call Angie's List to have them contact them; Nash Brothers. Angie's List called me to tell me they would finally be at my home within a couple of days, over three weeks after I paid for their service. I was at work when they came, but my wife was home. She said a swarm of workers cleaned the gutters, and they did clean up very well after themselves, but I have no idea how thorough they were. They had to borrow one of our flimsy garden hoses to spray out the gutters (professionals should provide there own, IMO). That/our hose was only designed for very light gardening, and immediately after they used it it now heavily leaks, and has to be replaced. I was also to have received an inspection of our gutters, and of our roof, as part of the service. I was told we would receive an email evaluation WEEKS ago, but to date we have not. I do not recommend Nash Brothers. They are hacks. I still want my paid-for inspection email response!

UPDATE: They have been inundated by the Angies list Big deal coupon and have had a hard time keeping up with demand. I finally got them to the house and spoke to Mr Nash Sr. What a wonderful guy. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt regarding the follow up. These big deals seem to always bite contractors in the butt. They were personable and professional. I'd use them again. Asked them for a quote for some other work as well. They do roofing, general carpentry etc. Not just gutters. Good bunch of guys.

I have no complaints at all about the work that was done. It looks good and has resolved the leak we were experiencing. The issue of the inspection which we purchased as a Big Deal I wasn't as pleased with. After much delay and back-and-forth, someone came out and looked from the inside our our attic at the roof and the leak. They were meant to come back to examine the roof from the top. The inspector agreed with our assessment that the flashing needed to be replaced. The inspection report ended up saying there was a leak at the chimney and the flashing needed to be repaired, which was what we'd already said and known--not a full report on things which were not obvious to us. Our whole purpose in having the inspection was to reveal other potential problems on our roof. Later we got a very reasonable quote for the work (along with the promised discount from the Big Deal) and we said to please go ahead with that work. Of course it's hard to schedule roofing work in the winter/early spring so we expected delays and there were certainly many. There were also times that they tried to come do the work but needed electrical access outside and we could not make provision for that since we'd already be off at work, etc. When the work was actually completed, it looked good and has fixed the problem. I had pressured them to complete the on roof part of the inspection while they were there and they said it all looked good. I suppose that's possible, but given some other signals that installation of our roof may not have been done with the highest professional standards, we are a little doubtful...
