We just spoke to this customer and was curious why we we're getting a review 2-months after a service call on ac and the response was she didn't have time. Reading from our technicians write up it says the condenser coil was completely blocked by dirt and debris causing high pressure at the condenser. He cleaned the coil, sealed air leaks in the duct work and around indoor coil. The customer signed and paid for the service and at that time the ac was working fine. This was the first time we have heard from them since July 20th. The problem was caused by lack of maintenance and that was the first time we serviced this customer.When we asked her why she didn't let us know she was having problems after our visit in July she stated she didn't fell like it and that she really didn't use her ac. We explained that if she did call us we would have came back to see what the issue was. We also explained that there is always a possibility on a unit that has not been taken care of that there could be another issue with the system from July 20th until today. Not sure how we could have fixed a situation we we're not notified about. Thank you.

Coastal was very professional and polite from the very first phone call. Alex was the one whom I spoke with on the phone as well as the one who came out and performed the work. Could not have gone any better. They came on time, they accomplished what was needed. They were friendly and informative. The price was reasonable and I felt they were honest and trustworthy. Five weeks before I called Coastal, I had called another company, ARS, who wanted me to replace this six year old system. They also wanted to charge me $1500 for a pressure test after the $850 "fix" they had charged me 5 week earlier without a guarantee failed. I was completely ripped off by ARS and felt like I was being scammed when they told me to replace my 6 year old system. Coastal came out and found that the freon was empty. They said the best way to find the leak was to run a dye test. They filled the freon so I would have cool air while the dye test ran for the next 48 hours. They charged $30 per pound for freon versus the $50 charged by the other company. Coastal said it was crazy to replace a 6 year old system that still had a partial 10 year warranty. They said a system like mine should be good for 15 to 20 years even if some repairs are required. When they came back 48 hours later, they found the leak immediately. There was a crack in the line at the base of the outside condenser unit. They repaired it and then ran a pressure test to make sure that there were no other leaks. This was the same test the other company wanted to charge me $1500 for. Coastal tested and repaired the unit for a total of $406. I will definitely use them again. They never tried to scam me into buying an entirely new system like that other company tried to do. They didn't charge me an exorbitant amount for the repair and they had a guarantee. I would highly recommend them. I feel like they earned my trust.

Last summer I noticed my central air conditioning wasn't running well. On mildly hot days, the inside temp would hover around 72 no matter how low I set the thermostat. On really hot days, the temp wouldn't go below 74 degrees. I also noticed a burning rubber smell coming through the vents and was concerned. My condo building's go to for HVAC repair has been Coastal Air. For years I used Coastal Air for heating repairs and I will say that they always did a good job. Because, of this a certain level of trust was established. Last summer they sent over a repairman that we hadn't used before. He was friendly, polite, and responsive, even thought he complained that our HVAC units are on the roof. I told the repairman about the A/C issues I had been having. I was especially worried about a burning rubber smell coming through the ducts. I asked for a preventative maintenance as well as a fix for the low efficiency of the air conditioning. When the repairmen finished, he told me that everything was running as efficiently as it possibly could. He said that my HVAC is really old (it is ~10 years) and that I wasn't going to be able to get more power out of it. He assured me that nothing seemed amiss and said he had no idea what the burning rubber smell could be, but not to worry about it. I trusted his assessment, paid him, and started exploring the idea that I might need a new HVAC. This summer, when the heat wave began, my A/C was even worse, rarely cooling below 77 degrees. I had a hunch that I should get a second opinion. Imagine my outrage when a technician from another company came and diagnosed the problem immediately as having almost no coolant left. He added freon, and that night my indoor temp got below 70 degrees in a matter of hours. The burning rubber smell vanished as well. I cannot fathom how an HVAC tech could miss something as basic as low coolant. Our building will never use Coastal Air again.

Jon came out and immediately found our problem when we had no heat or hot water. He diagnosed a faulty autofill valve that allowed water to enter the boiler. He also noticed that one of the hot water supply pipes was leaking. After he received the parts we were contacted and Jon came out again to replace the faulty autofill valve and gaskets. He tested the system and all was fine. A few days later, however, the system shut down again and we contacted Coastal Heating and Air. Jon immediately came back to the house and discovered air in the lines. He bled the system and stayed until he was sure that everything was up and working again. Jon is a very competent and attentive technician -- plus he was very pleasant and easy to deal with. We are happy to have discovered Jon and Coast Heating and Air on Angie's List. Nice to know that a company is so concerned and immediate in their response to your heating/air conditioning problems. In addition, when Jon had to return again to our house, he did so immediately, with no questions and a very pleasant nature. Great place to do business with.

This is a company that I have used for the last 5 years for maintenance and minor repairs of my a/c unit. I had issues in the past with being double charged, which took a long time to resolve, but eventually I was able to. They do good work, so I called them again to have my air conditioner cleaned. After calling 4 times and not receiving a call back (even telling them how many times I had called), I moved on to another company. Disappointed their service has gone down so much.

I have a unit that is a combined heating and cooling system. It's a big unit in a small outdoor utility closet. I called with an intermittent issue that my furnace would trip itself off. I had been having the problem for a few months with infrequent occurrence. In November I had another company come out and their advice to me was to hit the reset switch as they couldn't figure it out; they told me if the problem continued that they would recommend I replace the rollout switch. I wasn't impressed with that service and didn't trust the recommendations. Needless to say when the cold temperatures of February hit I was more concerned about having my furnace consistently working than I was in November. One night between 1:00am and 4:00am, when temps were in the teens, my furnace tripped itself six times. After six trips outside to the utility closet in my pajamas to hit the reset button, I was ready to find a permanent solution; I called Coastal the next day. It was easy to schedule an appointment to fit my schedule, the office staff was professional and friendly. Alex was my tech; he was awesome. He listened to my description of the issue and headed outside to have a look. He took his time to have a look at the total unit and about 40 minutes later he was back inside to explain what he had found. He explained to me that the rollout switch was installed backwards, not allowing air to flow correctly over the sensor and this was causing the system to incorrectly sense a high temperature which was resulting in the system shutting itself down. He cleaned and reinstalled the switch and he also cleaned the flame sensor. He ran the system for 20 minutes to be sure it would not trip. Alex took the time to explain what he had done to fix it. Although he felt confident that the installation of the switch was the issue, he took the time to make a recommendation should the problem persist so it was on record if a second visit was necessary. It's now April 11th and I have had ZERO issues with the furnace. If I had stayed with the other company I surely would have incurred additional time and expense to fix a relatively easy issue. I highly recommend Alex and Coastal. I was 100% comfortable with the quality of their work and the way they did it. I would not hesitate to use them again.

The gentleman fixed my heating system. He ordered the equipment that I needed. He came back and fixed all the systems needed. They did a fine job. He did not waste a lot of time chatting or fooling around. Just did his job and completed it.

They are charging me about $250 for travel and labor for about 30 minutes of work, which is not a fair price. They, also, charged $325 for the extra part. The owner wouldn't talk to me directly. They are taking advantage of it being an emergency situation. UPDATE: I received a call from the owner who was concerned about the miscommunication regarding the service I was being charged for. We discussed and I appreciated the call and explained that the tech gave me wrong information. I requested a bill be sent via email which eventually was but was written for the wrong service address. I have asked for a corrected bill via email and am waiting for a reply. There is a new employee working in the office so hopefully this will resolve many of these issues. I appreciated a direct call from the owner however, who wanted to know where things went wrong. Such a call is key to good customer service!

What turned me off was 1) Called Friday, Feb 20 at 8:00 AM, they couldn't come out until 1:30 PM, tried to repair the fan could not. 2) I asked for a quote to repair the fan and then to replace heat pump. Never got a call back, I finally called them at 6:00 PM. They told me at that time I would have to wait until Monday. 3) On Monday, they never called to let us know the status of the replacement fan, we had to call them to find out. 4) The price was way to large, $647.25, I asked for a quote to at least figure out if I wanted a replacement fan or new unit. Never got the quote, so I got the surprise of a very large bill. I am a Trustee of my condo association, Mellen Bray, won't recommend them. Not happy with the customer service. They did replace the fan and we have heat. But, a little customer service goes a long way with me.

My furnace was coming on and going off immediately. This first started in November. Someone came (very punctual) and said that he found water getting backed up in the heat drain because the end was submerged in moldy water. He removed 2" of the tube. Doing that cost $150. They came again because the same problem was happening on January 8th. He said they found tubing off the condensate pump drain ran directly outside and was frozen solid. He moved the tubing indoors, tapping into the drainage pipes. Doing that cost $313.44 Called January 16 for the same problem. They witnessed the problem with the furnace going on and off. They removed the draft assembly and cleared debris from housing - cleared all pressure hoses and draws. They manually spun the fan/shaft. Everything was normal when he left. This cost nothing. Same problem on January 28th. They came and installed a new Inducer motor. This cost $465 So, in total, I spent $928.44 to have my furnace which was shutting on and off come on and stay on. Unfortunately for me, I ended up having several problems in a row. I expressed concern over the price at the time of final service. I ended up calling in and speaking with Gino about my concerns. There was some miscommunication with some people on his end when I called in to speak with them about it. I ended up talking to Mike about my concerns over the pricing, and he explained it extremely well. Long story short, I had four different problems all happen consecutively. It just kind of sucks for me. He apologized for the miscommunication and time it took to get him on the phone. He's made some personnel changes at his company as a result and offered to do a free preventative maintenance in the Spring. I'm extremely happy with this solution, and Mike is clearly very knowledgeable and a very good communicator. I encourage everyone to get preventative maintenance, as it would have probably saved me at least $150.

Our problem occurred on a Saturday evening. Gino gave us some troubleshooting advice, which unfortunately didn't work. Sent a technician to our house the next day. He came within the timeframe stated, remedied the problem, and explained what he did (which apparently is pretty typical in a RUUD unit) and explained how we can fix it, if it happens again. It was a very simple solution but I was happy to pay for the professional visit.

Since I changed the filter the air ducts have been banging after the furnace blower shuts off. I wanted it serviced. He showed up earlier than originally told, so I wasn't home but I was 5 minutes away. He called and I told him he could go in the basement to start. When I got there 5 minutes later he was in the dark basement with a personal light. I turned the light on and he said that I had a broken bearing and that is why my ducts were banging. I asked is that all he is going to do and he said he could change your filter, but it's clean. I wrote him $150 check and he said Gino would call me later that day or the following day. A week later I call and he just says that my furnace is too old and they could take out the whole blower and have a machine shop work on it or get a quote for a new system. I know my system is old. He also forgot to put the blower switch on the furnace back to automatic so it was blowing non stop for 10 hours. I finally figured out cold air was blowing and went down to flip the switch. Two years ago they replaced the motor to this system. They did put the fan in backwards so we had no heat for two days, but came back and fixed it. I'm very annoyed with spending $150 and the lack of work and response I received in exchange. I'm still not sure how a broken bearing makes the air ducts bang. I was told because the fan is still on.?? So much for being a repeat customer.

The service was fine, they did what they were supposed to. I didn't have a good experience with the technician that they sent out and I wouldn't use them again in the future. I think their office customer service was great, but their technician was a bit rude. They fixed the problem, and they were timely but I wouldn't use them again because of the technician. Even though there was an additional issue, because of the technician, they were kind enough not to charge me more. Their price was comparable to everyone else that I looked at. I paid extra for adding freon and for getting the piece.

Most recently, I had a new tenant moving in on Dec 1. Late the night prior, I realized the pilot had burned out in my furnace because of a broken piece and there was no heat in the unit. After contacting Coastal Air, I got a response first thing the next morning, saying they had the model number of my furnace on file and were going to track down the needed piece based on that. They had someone in to repair it by mid-afternoon and my tenant moved in with heat (a good thing to have in December!).
Description of Work: I've been using Coastal Air for a year now (3-4 separate jobs) on different HVAC projects for my condo in Southie. Always responsive, knowledgeable, prompt and efficient. And Gino is always in a good mood over the phone!

I called another company to check the issue with a new installed Nest Thermostat. they told me that we have to change the board and re-wire for the total of $500. as I had a great experience with Coastal before, I called and schedule for the next day. The owner offered me to purchase the coupon through Angie's list to save some $$. John came on time, was very pleasant and polite and understood the issue right away. he fixed it and even gave me some advice about the filters. he didn't charge me anything extra and I was again very please with this company! Coastal just know how to get the work done! I highly recommend them!
