The salesman did a thorough job of explaining the differences with their product and their warranty. It was a very good crew who answered all of my questions and completed the work on time. I was really impressed with the prep job they did before painting. I would not hesitate to have Rhino Shield take care of the painting if I ever buy another house. We paid top dollar, but we got a top dollar job.

I have a split level ranch with a lot of shade area in the back of the house. The wood in this area is very wet to the point of causing mold and mildew. In fact the siding planks looked more green than white. Rhino Shield told us we had moisture problems causing this and before painting they removed all the siding in the lower portion of the back of the house and replaced it. We likely will have to remove some tree's to avoid this problem returning, but for now the house looks fantastic. The white siding and trim pops! It looks like a whole new house. Rhino Shield cost more than a typical paint job, but my wife and I agree it was well worth it. They were very professional in their approach.

I would like to recognize Paul and his crew for all of their fine work. We had our home done in multiple colors with some very detailed, intricate trim work. It came out looking great and we have received many compliments from our neighbors. Paul was professional; his crew always courteous. In addition, they did a fantastic job cleaning up each day. I would definitely recommend Rhino Shield (ask for Paul!).

Everything went poorly. They didn't show up when they said they would and were inconsistent with their workers. There were long lags between appointments. They were painting over dirty exterior. There are areas where the paint is already starting to peel off. I've been trying for some time to get them out to correct the issue. Communication has been a major problem. I've logged at least 10 phone calls to them trying to schedule them to come back out and correct their work. They have put me off for quite some time now and made appointments where they didn't show up. UPDATED 12/6/14 They did come out and finished the work and it was satisfactory. It appears that the distrect manager is trying to rectify some shortcomings that have occured in the past.

We had a problem with peeling paint on the front of the house and shutters that had to be addressed many times over the years. This has been taken care of by rhino shield. The big difference is they took the time to replace some of our old clapboards before painting. We were really impressed with the prep job they did. It looks beautiful, and the staff was professional clean, neat, and courteous. We are very satisfied with the result. -Peter D.

The house looks vibrant. The team that did the work is by far the best crew I've have had at my home in the 40 years I've been here. They were neat, prompt, attentive to detail, extremely talented, and very courteous. They were careful with my plants and shrubbery, and were very easy to communicate with, especially Anderson, the foreman. I'd recommend this company to everyone.
Description of Work: I have a tudor colonial home, part stucco. The team completely stripped/cleaned the outside of my home and applied a specially designed paint that looks just like regular paint, but is guaranteed to last a lifetime as it doesn't chip, crack, or peel.

We had our building painted by Rhinoshield in 2007 and were initially pleased with the service and results. It cost about twice what traditional paint cost. However after 7 years the areas painted with their product (just the trim, porches, and bay windows), had flaked off, wearing just as badly as ordinary paint. Worse, the product had trapped moisture behind it, resulting in widespread rot of the wood, and whole sections of our porch had to be replaced, costing thousands of dollars. Rhinoshield initially sent someone out to fix the flaked off paint, but he did not do any more than a cursory job of slapping some paint on in a sloppy fashion. It looked like a child had done it. He did not prime or prep the area as the original painters had done, and he missed many areas of obviously flaking paint. He had to be recalled more than once, and because of this, Rhinoshield charged us $300. We complained to Rhinoshield who then said the bay window was peeling because we should have installed gutters on our bay windows. They had never recommended this up front during the initial job. Our bay windows are dry after a rain, and none of our neighbors have gutters on their bay windows. We consulted a gutter expert who had installed our gutters who had said gutters on our bay windows weren't necessary and sent that to Rhinoshield. They never responded. It turned out, on inspection of our bay windows by a qualified painter, that the original Rhinoshield staff had only properly scraped off the old paint on ground level. At the upper levels, where their product is now flaking off, they never removed/scraped off the underlying paint. It looks terrible. The whole thing needs to be redone and they refuse to honor the and quot;Lifetime Warranty.and quot; In sum, we paid twice as much as traditional paint for a product that was not only no better than traditional paint, but resulted in rotting of our porch. They gave terrible customer service, did not honor their Lifetime Guarantee. We would never do business with them again and highly recommend that they be avoided at all costs!!
Description of Work: They applied Rhino-Shield product the the trim, porches, and bay windows of our 2 family condo building and conventional stain to the rest of our building in 2007.

We are sorry for your level of frustration. We have not spoken with you and assume you are a resident at the condominium. First and foremost we want to clarify that our company has never denied warranty service for this issue. An F review carries a lot of weight and we find this public review unfair to our business. In summary, your association hired a third party carpenter for wood repairs. The association contacted us about coating the new areas. We pride ourselves on taking care of all of clients especially longstanding projects like yourself. We were happy to recoat the new woodwork for a nominal fee of $300 which was agreed upon before services were rendered. We just wanted to simply cover the cost of material and the workers time without any mark up for the work. The work was performed March 19th 2014 and the balance has remained outstanding. Regardless of the outstanding balance, when the window service claim in question was reported to us we inspected the area in a timely manner. Upon inspection we expressed our concerns about the non guttered roof directly above the effected area. For the record we did not deny the repair at anytime. We simply asked to be paid for the previous work we agreed to that was delinquent. Regarding the bay window service in question. The Rhino Shield was loosing adhesion at the vertical joints of two boards on the bay window. The isolated area of concern was inspected in a timely manner. Our assessment is that directly above the area in question is a non guttered low pitched roof. We believe water is rolling off the roof, migrating down the side of the window, working into the wood frame, soaking the wood and causing the issue. With that being said, again we never denied warranty service and are happy to recoat the area under warranty. In regards to the gutter inspector stating that gutters are not needed. The only way we feel you can determine this is to do the following. (We have discovered and figured out many an issue by doing this) On a heavy rainy day, go out (with an umbrella hopefully) and inspect the area to see how the roof water is running off and possibly migrating into the frame. When Rhino Shield looses adhesion it is showing that there is an issue, 98% of the time it is water intrusion. We understand a service issue is a major concern but in our experience this is actually a good thing. If it was regular paint and water was soaking the wood, the paint would develop a hairline crack, water would weep out which would be undetectable in looking at the area on a dry day. Eventually years down the line you would be faced with possibly thousands of dollars in wood repair from an unknown leak, a situation that has happened to many a homeowner. Rhino Shield doesn’t crack but if the substrate is wetter than 40% (soaked) it will loose adhesion making it apparent there is a problem. In almost all cases including this one, it is a small isolated are, can be repaired under warranty and made to look like it never occurred. Again sorry for your level of concern, it is easily correctable. We are available at the office 781-826-6411 to discuss further and would like to close out both of these open service cases. Thank you, Rhino Shield

Quote was for approximately $36,000 but since my home was and quot;so uniqueand quot;, they offered me a deal if they could use my home as a drive by model and could do the job for only $29,000. I agreed and they did offer 12 months same as cash financing. I applied for the financing, was offered $22,000 and the remainder in deposit. Credit card was charged for $3700.00. A week later the salesman calls to inform me that he made a mistake in his calculations and the job will cost an additional $9000 or they can refund my deposit. I pointed out that he already signed a contract and we agreed to a price. His response was that if I carefully read the contract , he can break it at any time. Bait and switch? Certainly entirely unprofessional. I will be contacting BBB to report this.

We found another painter. Which stinks for Rhino, bc we were pretty much ready to go with them since my inlaws had used them with great results. But my husband is not at all interested in or able to take time off work to watch someone give us an estimate for painting. That was so off-putting.

It's important to note, we do ask this but we do make exceptions and we are sorry we lost you as a potential customer. I'm sorry you were offended by this request, as a small company providing free estimates to whomever calls, wherever they are located, asking to meet with all parties is the only request we ask. Estimates are free, no obligation, are available any day, at anytime and are good for 30 days. With over 6 million residents in Massachusetts we effectively service any and all estimate requests free of charge with just a handful of estimators. By keeping our staff smaller and effective this keeps our business costs low which in the end is a cost savings for our customers project cost. An average appointment requires a minimum of a 2 to 3 hour round trip for the estimator. That does not include the 1 - 2 hour presentation depending how many questions the homeowner has. Without implementing this general policy we would have to hire double the estimators to do return visits. Or we would be forced to cancel scheduled new appointments to return to previous parties. More importantly , In our decade of doing business and maintaining an A rating on Angies and BBB this reputation is only possible by having full communication with our customers. To make sure we have all input from all parties, we are clear in what we will do, how we will do it, our warranty, and all pertinent project details. Our product is not always a fit and that is perfectly fine but we cannot come to that conclusion without discussing in detail with everyone and finding that out. A Rhino Shield project is not a conventional paint project. It is 3-4 times longer than a conventional paint project and is a major home improvement decision. Only speaking with one party about all the details will most always require both parties at another time to move forward. We understand this can be difficult for some so we have hired people that sacrifice family time in the evenings, Saturdays and Sundays to meet with anyone that is interested. Best Regards, Rhino Shield

SEE UPDATE: A neighbor had used their services a few years ago and was happy with their work. We're often at their house and it still looks good. We had been having trouble with paint flaking off one side of our house so we decided to call them because they advertise a paint that is more durable. I was impressed with the salesman. He answered questions about the differences with their paint., but he also brought samples and we could see the paint had a thicker quality than what we had before. The problem was their price was more than our last paint job, but I felt the price was okay if it solved the peeling issue we had. The crew that did the work was very good. The last company we had was on the job for close to 2 weeks, this crew was done in 6 days because they had a ton of workers on the job. They were very clean too. I think the best way to tell a professional painter is they're not covered in paint at the end of the day, (like I would be. ha ;) These painters were spotless. I plan to report back on whether this was a solution for our flaking problem, SEE UPDATE

Very hard working crew. They did a great job. Paint looks great 3 years later (or is it 4?). We went with Rhinoshield because we never wanted to paint again per their claim. Fingers crossed. Our previous paint job (NOT Rhinosheild) lasted maybe 5 years looking good; we let it look bad for 2 or 3 years, then went with Rhinosheild. If we live here forever then we're hopeful we won't have to paint again. If we sell the house in 5-10 years then we won't have to paint before putting on the market or not paint and have to lower the asking price accordingly. We had one small area where the paint bubbled (ballooned?) 1 ft x 2ft after 2 years and they came back and redid it at no charge. It's still fine. I WOULD recommend from our experience, but of course the jury is still out on how long it really lasts.

After researching this company for two years, we were certain it was the only way to go when it came to painting our two story garrison colonial home and new shed. We sat with the owner and listened as he went over every detail and answered every question we had. His responsiveness and knowledge of the product was evident throughout our conversation. The job began with a full crew working non stop for eight hours (okay, maybe a 15 minute lunch break) for a week and a half. They were courteous, professional, and meticulous. We watched the detail and quality work that went into completing each phase of the process. We couldn't be any happier with the end result. Our house looks fabulous. We have had neighbors and as well as strangers come up to us and compliment us on how lovely our home looks. My wife chose a very unusual olive green and Rhino shield matched the color perfectly. We are 100% satisfied and feel that everyone thinking about painting their house should consider looking into this process. Even though it is expensive initially, it will more than pay for itself since we will never have to paint it again. Kudos to you Rhino Shield; you've got a fantastic product!

My experience was very dissatisfying. They gauged the brand new roof. They got over spray over everything. I contacted them to see if they would replaced the roof and then found out they do not have insurance. They have not been responsive to my requests and have been very unprofessional. I would not recommend this company to others. Update: The company was responsive to me, after receiving a negative review. They clarified that they did have insurance. They were responsive to my requests, and in that response were very professional. I initially gave them very low scores. After their response to reconcile the problem, I have upgraded it to B's.

Had Rhino come out for a quote. Note that at the time they want you to sign a contract and you can either get a special promotion or have more leverage on negotiations if you are ready to sign. It is a tactic in my opinion can come off a bit sleazy/used car salesmen. I think there is a book about the method because we've had a few of the larger providers use it! The salesman was very nice otherwise. We did end up going with them. Two things - the price is negotiable or you can add in extras like a shed or something. Read the warranty carefully when they send it. Some of it was not what I expected. They were happy to change things and mentioned they had just rewritten it and were getting quite a few complaints, so they may have updated it now. The things that seem to be negotiable are the time period where there would be 0 cost to have them come out to check things and they had a clause that said after some # of years if they can't remedy a problem the refund amount starts to go down. They changed both without much of a fight. The crew was great. I have never seen a group work so hard and be so diligent. Rhino did use an independent contractor, but from what I gathered the contractor is on the hook for any warranty issues that come up (with the backing of corporate, but they are the ones that get called if you have issues). They spent several days prepping, which included striping with chemicals and sanders, replacing rotted wood around windows and some shingles that a wood p***** had his way with! My only minor complaint was that they must of got some of the chemical stripper on a bush and the top 3 inches turned yellow. The house looks phenomenal. We have gotten several comments on it. I'm sure any new coat of paint would do the same and only time will tell if it was worth it. 4 months later I just got a comment from some one that was at the house. The price is high, so be ready for that! We got quotes from budget to high end painters before getting the quote from Rhino. The low end was $8500 and the highest was $12,000. The difference was the # of coats. In the end, based on the reviews here where people have had no issue with the warranty I was happy to pay the premium since we are going to be in the house a long time. I will try to remember to come back here in 5 years and update my review with if it paid off.

Gave deposit of $2000 for house to be rhino shield then found structural problems we needed to take care of that were going to be very expensive so requested to be released from contract and they said no. All they could do was hold the price for us, not much help when we found that before any rhino shield could be done we were going to have to replace an entire exterior wall..could have used the money now! We will have to choose to lose our deposit or have them do the work when we can afford it again.

We understand your position and hope you will consider ours. At most companies the customer’s deposit doesn’t sit untouched; the funds are used to cover the resources needed to prepare for the job. (ordering product, scheduling, etc.) We don't have a problem refunding a deposit; we even do it beyond the time frame stipulated in our contract, but in this case the refund request came a year after the original contract was signed. During the year your paint had been ordered and the job was canceled and rescheduled more than once. These things required resources and involved costs. And frankly after a year of starts-and-stops we had invested a good deal more than the deposit amount. We apologize for any misunderstanding, but please understand our goal is the same as yours; we’re hoping the necessary repairs can be made and we can complete your project as originally planned. Thank you.

Company did an excellent job of preparing the house before any primer or paint was applied. Our house is over 100 years old and in some areas has the original clapboard siding (I think). I had one area that was being painted every year, it would bubble in the summer and flake off every winter. I contacted them because they said their ceramic paint would last and quot;a lifetimeand quot; (I didn't care if it lasted a lifetime, I would of been happy if it lasted for 5 years!) The workmen were very professional. They stripped much of the house and replaced a lot of the old trim and clapboard. They primed with what felt like a and quot;rubberand quot; primer that was different than any other I had used before. They then applied a new cover surface coat. The final paint was also different, thicker than even the enamel or latex I had used in the past. It looked good when they finished. The manager asked me if they could use me as a recommendation for their company. I told him no, not until I saw how it held up. I'm happy to say it has held up through 2 winters without a problem and I'm now comfortable recommending their service. In general they seem to take the painting profession more seriously then other companies and they use a higher quality product. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

My house had already been treated by Rhinoshield when I bought it in 2009. I paid the $150 fee to have the lifetime warranty put in my name. The house began to peel all over in 2011 and I contacted the company. They came out and redid the house to my satisfaction. Almost two years later it looks great. I have no problems with them and would use them again if I bought another house.

We were pleased with our experience with Rhino Shield. Our call for information was returned within a day, and we were soon meeting with the Rhino Shield Rep. From the very start of the job to the very end, their people were prompt, courteous, respectful and utterly professional. Best of all the finished product still looks AMAZING! In the past we had trouble holding the paint on the south side of the house, but it has been close to two years and no bubbling like we had before. My wife and I would recommend rhino shield for those looking for a ceramic paint product.

The sales job sounded great! Majority of old paint would be removed by chemical stripping then surface sanded to bare wood and product would be applied! That SOUNDED GREAT!! HOWEVER, what actually happened was NOTHING was chemically stripped, the shakes were pressure washed which distroyed the surface of them, the remaining clapboards and trim were BARELY touched with sand paper, not enough to deglaze the finish, then the product was applied over (in my oppinion) surfaces NOT ready for paint! Apparently their thought process is add more product to cover ANYTHING!! I am NOT AT ALL SATISFIED with the final results and will never recommend them to ANYBODY!!!

My name is Mat Giovanello. I’m co-owner of Rhino Shield New England. As you know, Rhino Shield is a premium paint product that is more expensive than a traditional paint job. The higher costs means we have an even greater responsibility to ensure our customer is satisfied with our service. It appears we failed to meet that responsibility, and failed to meet your expectations. I apologize. But an apology is not a solution. When we say no job is complete until the customer is satisfied it’s not merely a slogan, it is our company policy… Our service records showed your project as being completed to your satisfaction, but your review makes it clear our records were incorrect. I’m requesting a time to meet with you so I can learn the details or your concerns, and work to address them. Incredibly without this review we may have never known you were dissatisfied with our services. When we saw your report we were disappointed in ourselves for not communicating better, but hopefully you’ll allow us another opportunity to prove we were worthy of your investment. A customer should never feel the way you feel now, and we will do all in our power to remedy this situation. I’m not sure if this Angie’s List response is sent to directly, therefore I will be sending you a separate email requesting a meeting, and I just left you a voicemail requesting the same. Please reply when you can. Thank you.

Time will tell. We're optimistic the paint will hold for as long as we're in the house. We had many problematic areas with pealing and grew tired of addressing them time and time again.
Description of Work: They painted 1/2 of our house (it's white so that was possible). It took them 3 full days about 3-4 men (first day perhaps 6-7 men) start to finish. We own a 200yo house so there's many small pained windows and detail. They did not strip all the paint down to the wood and that concerns me a little. But it was definitely prepped beyond a typical paint job (it should be given the price!) They made cutouts for all the windows then sprayed the house with a yellow primer then two coats of finish. I gave them a B on responsiveness because we didn't hear from them for a while after we gave them the deposit (few weeks or so). But then all of a sudden they called to inform us they were starting the next day. My husband didn't have time to transfer some flowers which were killed as they were close to the house. It is also very pricey, but you know that going in. The only way to know if it's worth it is with time. There were no surprises or add-ons to the quoted price. The workers were diligent and very nice (although there were a lot of paper bags and cups floating around our house that we picked up after the job, just a very small nit).

Regarding the actual work done, it was impressive how hard everybody worked; how meticulously the pre-paint preparation was done. We were told that work would begin on a particular Monday, but the company called and asked if they could come a few days earlier to start the work. Most of the time was spent on preparation. They covered all windows with plastic for protection. When they finished they left everthing perfectly clean. The workers were very courtious and we were kept informed of the progress. We have nothing but good things to say about the company and the workers. The one bit of bad luck we had was that the project lasted thru the Memorial Day weekend when, justifiably, the workers took time off and this was followed by a few days of rain which further delayed progress. What we were charged was exactly what was quoted.
Description of Work: The Rhino Shield exterior paint is advertised to last the lifetime of the house. Consequently, it is not yet possible to determine if the price is good or bad. We were told at the time of the presentation that the price is usually approximately 2 1/2 times the cost of a regular paint job. Based on our experience with the previous "regular" paint job 6 years earlier, this this estimate was consistent with that claim. Our house is in Cape May, NJ at the shore. A normal paint job here lasts about 6 years. Therefore, I will not be able to evaluate the value of this paint job for about 15 years, unless, of course, it deteriorates before this. The claim is that there is a guarantee and the company would fix any flaking or peeling for free - we will see if this is true.

Rhino Sheild was very easy to deal with. We had some tough choices to make about colors and other items (doors, trim, railings, etc) and Rhino Sheild gave us plenty of flexibility to decide. The painters were great. They made good recomendations for us and helped us avoid a mistake with painting some window trim which would have made the house look too busy. They were quick, it took 6 or 7 days. The crew worked very hard and did a very thorough job. They were very careful and did not overspray anywhere. There was no debris left behind. I always anticipate some cut-corners, tricks, and poor work when someone does work on my house. But, I couldn't find one thing to bring up this time. Everything was perfect.
Description of Work: The painters stripped and sanded and power washed our house. They also powerwashed our wood deck, some outdoor furniture, and the granite steps without being asked! They mortared a crack in a granite step that has been bothering me for years. They did some carpentry on some rotting clabboards and garage doors. They applied the primer, and then the trim color paint, and then the body color paint. They painted our door, and then walked around for the final inspection. They had no problem getting back up there and scraping away and sanding some drips and touching up some minor areas. Then, they installed our new light fixtures and cleaned up and left our place just like they found it.

This was done in 2 phases and 2 years. The frist paint crew were not very maticiolus and we had to go around several time to have them redo areas that were not done properly. The company finally replace the crew and the second crew was much better and completed to our satisification. The second phase was done by a third crew that were very good and We only had a small punch list to go over with them at the end. Much better experience. The company always responded to us and ultimately we were happy with the job. The price is based on never having to paint again. So for 4-5 paint jobs its cheap.
Description of Work: Scrape old "lead" paint from exterior. Prime and repaint entire house with Rhino paint.

Everything went smoothly. You can negotiate a bit in price but it is a high value product at an appropriate price.
Description of Work: They performed the as advertised service. Price is somewhat negotiable. I initially selected that I would not use the service in the future because I expect the job they did to last my lifetime and that is their main selling point. You are not supposed to need them again However a tree fell on teh house and we plan to have them repair the damage so be nice to them, you may need them again anyway
