A front foyer, a den and stairs with ballasts were heavily stained and worn after 40+ years of poor care, a sick cat and lots of wear and tear. Mr. Sinclair promptly returned by e-mail and came by within a few days and did a very friendly comfortable walk through of the entire house. He sent me an estimate via e-mail (excel spreadsheet) which was easy to understand and the price was not heart stopping. When I was ready I contacted him and he began the work soon after I gave him the "go ahead". His team (all very nice) sanded and cured the floors but soon after we noticed that a good portion of the stains could not come out as well as I had hoped, so we decided to tear up half the floor. The price was VERY reasonable for the extra work and material. As I write this the third coat is drying and they are exquisite. The difference is literally night and day. I found Mr. Sinclair to be professional and someone I feel comfortable to invite back again this fall to do the rest of the house. I will say that I had been burnt a few times with contractors and was nervous but I am just so happy and feel that the work was so well worth the price. It is what you long for now a days. A good final product for a good price.You will be very pleased.

He did some additional things that we asked him to do. He fixed a squeaky board and did some extra varnishing even though it wasn?t part of the contract.

This was not an easy job, we had to find someone who was creative and was able to think outside the box. Tom was that guy. He was able to come in and understand exactly what we wanted and do what ever it takes to make sure we were happy with the finished product. The thresholds upstairs were in a room where wood was salvage and was a color that was extremely difficult to match. They did not come out looking the way we wanted when they were installed and we let Tom know that they could look better. He should up the next day to get them up to par, and they now look great. It is rare that you find people that take this much pride in their work.

The experience was excellent. Tom and Ron were very professional and competent. They arrived as promised (on time!), took great care to isolate the work area to minimize dust in the rest of the house, performed the work in a timely and professional manner for the price quoted, and checked back with us to make sure we were pleased with the way everything turned out. The price quoted was comparable to other quotes received. We were extremely satisfied and will use Sinclair Hardwood Floors again. We have already recommended Tom and Ron to several friends.

I emailed Tom for a quote and he was very responsive and came to give us an estimate that week. He was able to start the work within 2 weeks which met our timeframe. They started on a Monday and finished the last coat the following Monday (it took a couple of extra days because they had to order new wood to accomodate the change in the initial scope of work - see below). Overall the hardwood floors look amazing and the living room looks fantastic. Tom was very responsive and I would recommend him in the future. I have two minor issues: 1. We initially thought because there was existing hardwood floor under the carpet in LR we could weave in new hardwood floor and refinish the old. Our original quote was for this and the wood was ordered. When Tom took the rug up he called to say this would no longer be possible b/c the wood was old and he could not match it, so we had to lay new floor over the entire living room. This increased the cost approx. $800. I think it was the right call because otherwise the floor would have looked bad and he was being honest, I just wish that he had found this at the time of the original estimate so we could have budgeted better. Having said that we had 4 estimates and Tom was in the middle (in terms of price). One other said that weaving the new wood would be too hard to do and he would have to replace it, the other one said they could replace the wood. So it was mixed and in the end I definitely thind we did the right thing by replacing the entire floor. 2. The hardwood floor in LR leads to stairs downstairs. The stairs are carpeted and when they ripped up the carpet they took part of the old carpet off of the stairs that go downstairs. It had old plywood underneath and looked bad. My husband had to ask for them to put a piece of new wood there (which they did) but I would have assumed that if they removed something they would have done this already. The wood leading to the stairs is not finished so it stand out in contrast to the stairs and the new floor. We will have to stain it or paint it to try to match it better. I would have hoped this would have been done as part of the overall installation of the hardwood floors. Those were the only things that held back an "A" rating but overall the floors look great and family / friends have commented on how incredible things look.

Tom and Ron came to give us an estimate. They explained the job and how long it would take. The job was to be done in three days. Day 1; Weaving in new flooring, sanding the floor to bare wood and putting the first coat of finish. Day 2: Lightly sanding the floor and applying a second coat and; Day 3: Lightly sanding the floor and applying the final finish. Sinclair was not the cheapest estimate, but I felt confident in their integrity and quality. I was proven to be correct. Ron and Tom came on time, completely sealed off the room and finished the first day's work just as they stated. They also noticed my threshold was in bad shape and replaced it also. They left the first day with the first coat applied and the weaving and repairs, including the new door threshold completed. The house was as clean as when they first arrived. The second day they did the sanding and recoating. Tom explained the different finishes, satin, semi and high gloss. He asked us to decide what final finish we wanted and explained the advantages and disadvantages of each. We decided on semi-gloss and on the third day they sanded and recoated the floor. It is beautiful! I appeciate great workmanship. One last thing; over the past few months either Tom or Ron returned my calls and emails very quickly. Sounds like a minor detail; but it is really interesting that they were the ONLY people that did this consistently. Sinclair was the only Angies list contractor I called and my experience shows me that the list works. I would not hesitate to call Sinclair Hardwood Floors again. I have already started to recommend them to people.

The flooring was delivered a few days ahead as described, the work was started on the day promised, care was taken to minimize dust each part of the process was explained as the stain and finish were completed.

This went great, we got a few quotes from other angie's list contractors. Tom's quote was reasonable and he was responsive to our questions and had done some quality work in our area that we were able to look at. Tom was available the day after we accepted his proposal and he did great worked and cleaned up very well after themselves.

After sanding the floor we were surprised how well the floor came out, so we decided not to stain the floor, and Sinclair refunded the staining portion of the job without even asking for it. We were surprised how beautiful and well the floor came out. I couldn't find a single place they cut corners. Sinclair's attention to detail was amazing. They were very informative, easy to talk with and professional.

Tom was a referral from a neighbor. He's a local guy who grew up in this town and uses trustworthy subs that he has been friends with and worked with for years. He responded to my call immediately, and answered my questions/concerns, openly and honestly. He provided a realistic deadline and made sure that I was aware of how the entire process would work. After initially meeting with us, he listened to our needs and responded by taking measurements, asking questions, and within a few days provided us with a quote that stayed within the boundaries of our budget. With the exception of a few minor (electrical/plumbing) issues (of which were no fault of theirs), the projects took 2 weeks as stated. Ron (co-worker of Tom's) was always on site and kept me in the loop on everything. They were professional, clean, and personable. We are in the process of working with them again to remodel our kitchen.
