Saulnier Wood Floors

They were local. They were good, quick and clean. They fixed a lot of the wood. They worked with us to get the right color that we wanted for the finish.

I left 2 messages and emailed them through the site to schedule a time to do an estimate. I never received any call back or email. I had contacted 3 other places, all of which got back to me within 48 hours. I have no idea what their quality it, it may be amazing. If you get the call back that is a good sign, it just didnt' work out for us since we never heard anything back and I am too busy to track down someone I am trying to buy a service from.

Their estimate was extremely high. They wanted to do a major restoration of my entire floor, and it seemed like a bigger job than I wanted to take on. They seemed very professional and very knowledgeable.

Absolutely Horrible Customer Service!! First, since they only do estimates from 9 AM to 3 PM, you have to take time out of your work day to travel back to you home to have some come and give you an estimate, which is horribly inconvenient to begin with. Secondly, I set up an appointment for 12 noon on Tuesday (12/8) to receive the estimate. Approximately 10 minutes before the appointment, I received a call that the person coming to give me an estimate had an emergency and could no longer make the appointment. I was irritated as I was already halfway to my home before I received the call, but trying to be understanding, I call back and reschedule the appointment for Thursday 12/10 at noon. On Thursday, I am waiting at my home and have seen no sign of the company, so I called the office at 12.05. No one was there answering phones, so I left a message asking to have some one from the office call me as I wanted to ensure that they would be arriving shortly. I waited another 10 minutes (12.15 by this point) and received no call nor have seen any sign of the company. I call one last time and again left a message that I was extremely unhappy about having my time wasted again in the middle of my work day. I finally left home at 12.20 with no sign and no call from anyone to explain their absence. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone like myself with a very busy career and busy life. They clearly think that you at their service instead of the opposite.

Saulnier arrived as scheduled to provide an estimate for refinishing our old painted hardwood floors in the master bedroom and guest bedroom. Bob was thorough in the review of what needed to be done and understanding our expectations. We received the estimate a few days later and scheduled the work for the following week. Again, the team arrived on time and had the job completed in three days. Even though Saulnier was more expensive then other contractors we spoke with - you really do get what you pay for. The floors look simply amazing - we are so happy we choose Saulnier.

Great! Owner was very reponsive and helpful. Various crews for the different steps were on time, polite, and hardworking. After we picked a stain, owner furnished back a stained board with 2 different finishes for us to see and select so we had a good comfort level about the project. The sanding part took a day longer than anticipated by original estimate but was well done. End result of the repaired and restained floors throughout is beautiful and we are already receiving compliments on how wonderful they look. We would definitely recommend this company to anyone who needs their hardwood floors refinished OR repaired in some manner.

The job turned out beautifully, with all the attention to detail that I could have hoped. I left the unit during the work, and communicated with Paul Saulnier who was very responsive whenever I called. Paul had the crew meet me at the end of the job so we could move the furniture back together- this was incredibly helpful, I found the Saulnier team professional, thorough, and polite- and they do a beautiful job on the floors at a reasonable price. This was a great experience. I would highly recommend this company.

Our porch floor had been carpet on top of plywood -- until it sustained heavy water damage from a leaky roof. We ripped up the carpet so it wouldn't attract mold and mildew. Bob Tucker, a NWFA certified inspector who works for Paul, came out to assess the situation. He told us he would give us an estimate by e-mail that week. When one didn't arrive, I called the office. The office manager told me that many of their e-mails were being eaten by spam filters. I almost never lose desirable e-mail to my spam filter, but sure enough, that's where it was. I sent off a check for half the cost of the work and waited for the phone call to schedule the work. A week after my check cleared, I still hadn't heard from them, so I called. Mr. Saulnier apologized, saying that he usually calls to schedule the work right after the check clears. It was classy of him to apologize, and I understand that sometimes things happen. No harm done. The guys came out Tues. and Wed. to do the work. I called on Wed. to see when the guys would be showing up for work the next day, as I was under the impression that they would need me to let them in the house to access the proper electrical outlet. The office manager said that the work was already completed, so I didn't need to be home to let the men in. You can imagine my surprise, then, when the guys showed up for work on Thurs. and needed to be let in to access the proper electrical outlet. Fortunately, I happened to be at home. I told them that I had heard that they weren't coming, and they asked if this was something Paul had said. I said no, it was the office manager. They said, "Ah" knowingly. They were sure that they needed to put another coat of polyurethane on the floor, and that was fine with me, so they went ahead and did it. Anyway, the floor they installed looks fantastic. The wood is solidly packed -- no gaps. The finish is beautiful. People used to come in the house and tell us the interior floors looked nice, but now all they notice is the porch! My neighbor asked for Saulnier's number so she could contact him about getting her floors done. Also, the men who came out to install the floor were hard-working and nice.

Overall, it was one of the most satisfying experiences I've had with a contractor. We had several estimates and they were all in the same ballpark. What I liked about the Saulnier estimator was his professionalism and the time he took to answer our many questions. We are in our eighties and unable to move heavy furniture. They moved furniture that we couldn't move and did not charge extra as the other contractors said they would. They consulted with us on every step. The men were very courteous and consulted us about color stains, etc. The one complaint I have is I did not get the $100 rebate that was mentioned in Saulnier's ad in your magazine. However, I did not ask for it.

We purchased a 17 year old home that had very worn and neglected hardwood floors. We selected Saulnier to sand, refinish and stain (darker) the existing floor, and replace the wood in a few water damaged areas. We couldn't be happier with the results. It looks like a brand new floor. Saulnier isn't the cheapest, but they definitely know what they're doing, and the work is outstanding!

Over two weeks she called twice and emailed once, and didn't get any response at all, not even an acknowledgement that she had called.

Everything was perfect. I was satisfied with their work. The man that came was a nice guy as well.

Very responsive to call for estimate, arrived on time and provided estimate within days. Very accommodating on scheduling. Arrived when they said they would and finished job on time and on budget. Was able to get us a wider floor board which was more attractive at the same price as the narrower boards in the original estimate. Only glitch happened on day one of the job, when a workman hit a heating pipe while nailing down a loose floorboard. Significant water from the pipe ran between the floors and through light fixtures into the kitchen below causing water damage. Owner was on the phone immediately to us and tried to help send a plumber, but we were able to find a local one faster. The company paid for the plumber visit and for painter to repair plaster and repaint kitchen ceiling, but did suggest that it might be our fault since pipe "should not have been there." Owner did not visit to assess damage himself, but after all did not baulk at paying for repairs, so can not truly complain. Overall the timeliness and quality of the work was excellent and outweighed the inconvenience of dealing with the damage. We would use them again and recommend them to others without hesitation.

AMAZING! The carpet remover he sent came on the dot at 8am and had everything removed within two-three hours. The wood delivery followed the same morning. The following week the installers arrived - Carlos and Sil - and they were excellent. Extremely professional, clean, and diligent. They started work at 8:30am and finished at 5:30pm. I don't think I ever saw them even leave the room. The floors looked beautiful and perfectly installed. Carlos and Sil cleaned up the room and even the living room (which I think was more my dog's mess than theirs!) They also stacked up the extra wood and left it for us should we need it for any repairs. The room looked like it belonged to a brand new house. My husband and I are so pleased with the work that we will definitely be calling them to do the sanding and polishing of the rest of the floors in our house. What an amazing job and a great experience from start to finish! I highly recommend this company!

I had two companies provide quotes for refinishing strip oak floors throughout my house. Saulnier's price was significantly higher than the competitor, but their estimator was more thorough and professional. The men who actually performed the work were very nice throughout the process. They were clearly experienced (with many, many old layers of polyurethane drips on their boots). They did an excellent job manually refinishing the hard-to-reach strips of wood beneath the baseboard heaters. In areas where the strip oak bordered a prefinished cork floor, they were very careful. My one small complaint is some drips of polyurethane away from the work area, but overall, a good experience.

This is a great company. I got a few estimates from others and most were about the same price range, but Bob seemed quite more knowledgeable then most of the others I talked to. Paul was also great to work with. I must have changed my mind at least 3 times on exactly what I wanted done, and he was thoroughly patient with me and emailed me a new quote every time very quickly. The crew arrived on time and when we ran into some trouble (bad stains on the floor); I got a call right away. We ended up having to the stain the floor quite darker then originally planned to cover these bad stains but the guys were great! I went home right away and they explained the issue and gave me good suggestions on what my options were. We decided to just go with a dark colored stain and the floors came out beautiful. And the dustless system works great. My home was a neat as it after as it was before. I would highly recommend them!

It was fine. They were a stand up company and because of the humidity, they had trouble with the finish. But they came back and did a fine job. They were pleasant to work with.

Excellent experience with Saulnier Wood Floors. I want to make a note that the reason I am rating category Price with "B" is because they are more expensive than the average contractor. Their expertise and quality of work, however, are also above average. If you are looking for quality and knowledgeable solutions for every problem - go for them, if you are looking for a cheap service - it might not be your train. Bob Tucker came for the estimate. He was earlier at the site (we don't currently live in the condo) and by the time we arrived he had already gotten from the concierge some important details about building restrictions and was a step ahead of us. Bob Tucker was very professional and knowledgeable and able to give suggestions and options. All further communications were with Paul Saltier, who we never met personally, but the way he organizes his work/crew, you don't really need to see him. Paul is always on top of everything and the communication via email and phone with him was always very efficient. The email communication was very convenient for us, since you can handle it at any time and circumstances. The crew was punctual to the minute every single day. They all were professional, hardworking and courteous. During the course of work we did not like the moulding we had originally selected and Paul Saulnier was very flexible to find a solution that made us happy. The job was performed on time, everything went very smooth and with minimal input from our side. The result is beautiful Brazilian cherry floor. We are picky and we are very pleased.

My kids were going to visit their grandparents for a week so it was a good time to get rid of the old carpet in their room. Naturally I procrastinated finding a contractor until the day they left (Friday of Labor Day weekend). Saulnier Wood Floors was highly rated so I called them hoping they could do the job immediately. Paul was very responsive and had a rep at my house in hours. We talked about the main job, a hallway, and my old pine kitchen floor that is all cupped and cracked. The rep was very open and collaborative about the work and it became obvious that the hallway and kitchen shouldn't be done now. Several different reps/employees talked about their use of moisture meters to insure the wood was properly acclimatized to the room although I didn't actually witness it being done. We talked over a couple options to reduce sound transmission and settled on a thin foam mat. They told me that the staples would still transmit some sound and the best way to soundproof would be to glue engineered wood flooring to a cork pad but I declined. I got the quote on Saturday, a guy came to deliver wood on Sunday, work started on Tuesday (Monday was Labor Day), and the final (second) coal of polyurethane was down on Thursday. The room was back in use on Monday night. Assuming the floor holds up to time it was a perfect job. The cost works out to about $10-$11/sqft

We were very happy with the job. We received estimates from several companies. The man from Saulnier gave me the most information about the condition of my floors and pointed out many things that the others didn't. He also offered to repair water damage and came up with a solution to a problem. Their price was better than the other dustless floor company in the area. They showed up on the date promised and called to tell me that they were running a bit late, which I appreciated. The workers were professional and efficient. The work was completed in the time expected and the house was in good shape when they left. The house was clean with very little dust, and the floors look great. I had 2 issues with the job after it was done and both were addressed quickly by the owner of the company. I would definitely recommend this company.

Something to keep in mind: When hiring contractors consider experience and references. Saulnier has a very good reputation because they have the experience to anticipate problems and suggest solutions. Scheduling was easy and they were flexible when our schedule changed on short notice. This was one of our best experiences with a contractor to date.

Needed to get the floor refinished. Some of the floorboards were damaged and had to be replaced. They were very knowledgeable about the type of wood we required and used salvaged wood which matched perfectly. High quality work.

They did an amazing job. They are very hard working fellows and they cleaned up after themselves nicely. They were polite and friendly, and thoughtful while in my home and I highly recommend them.

They were extremely professional. They were very polite and knew their stuff. They did a great job with the floors. When there were some issues with the oil and wax they came back and resolved them. They handled everything very well.

Brian was running late due to traffic but called. He was very courteous and professional. He was also very complimentary of my floors, which I appreciated. The next week I had to call twice to get the estimate. I was waiting for theirs before I made my final decision. They had been attending a conference out of state.I got four estimates (3 of them were from AL). There was a HUGE range in prices. Saulnier ($2600) was double the next highest estimate ($1300) and triple the lowest ($775). I am going with one in the middle. It's unfortunate because they were extremely courteous and willing to work within the guidelines of my difficult management company. Maybe they included the cost to park in Boston?
