Saulnier Wood Floors

Paul stands behind his work and wants his customers to be happy. My experience with Saulnier floors very great.

The floors look great and they did a nice job moving the heavy furniture before and after.

The work was done in 2 days from 9 to 4 and one day from 9 to 2. The tools to remove the damaged wood and the cork and glue along with an electric saw were brought to be used.

Everything went beautifully, they were quick, professional, dustless, and the work was excellent. I was surprised and thrilled that the work was done so quickly. It transformed my house!

Saulnier was the highest bidder on this job, and well worth it. I chose them because other bidders did not include in their quotes the fact that a layer of plywood was needed, because you can't lay new floor on top of old floor running the same direction. This was obvious when it was pointed out, but nobody else thought to mention it. Given I'll probably have this floor for 30 years, and it could be there 100 more, I thought it was just as well to have it installed by someone who's paying attention, The original quote was for 2 1/4" white oak boards, and I was offered the options of 3 1/4" or 4" plank for the same price. I went with the 4". The job was done between a Saturday and the following Friday, The plywood guy did his thing on Saturday very professionally, removing many irregularities in the old floor. New flooring was laid Monday and Tuesday by a two-man crew. Gold stars for these guys -- they worked with amazing speed and exactness, were easy to communicate with and did everything as I asked, and particularly did beautiful work at the 6 doorways. The sand-and-finish guys seemed a little less alert than the rest: estimates of when they would be done ranged from Thursday to Saturday, and they had trouble figuring out or communicating when they'd be here. In the end they were through on Friday morning. Their work was fine though: a water-based satin finish was applied, which looks excellent and only smelled for about 48 hours. Overall, my floor is awesome. People ask whether the new part is solid laminate because they can't believe how seamless it is. The old part looks its best, and the repairs were done with reclaimed wood that is the best match possible for the 120-year-old wood. People ding Saulnier for their pricing, but for me after factoring in the plywood and the wider boards, the price difference wasn't more than a few hundred bucks, and I feel like I got more than that back on the quality of the job. Therefore I'm feeling totally comfortable with that A.

They arrived each day on time - the job took 3 days, I think, from start to finish. They covered my kitchen cabinets, sink, etc. with drop cloths, to minimize the amount of post-installation cleanup, although be prepared for doing a pretty decent amount of vacuuming afterward. The crew chief explained to me that the floor could be installed with the boards running the length of the kitchen, or across the width. But he suggested that, given the direction of the floor joists, they do the latter as it would make the floor more stable in the long run. Although I had originally wanted the installation to be length-wise, I agreed with his assessment. The first day was prep work - getting rid of the existing linoleum. Because I wasn't having my kitchen counters replaced and I have an under-counter dishwasher, they told me this was necessary to insure that the dishwasher could be replaced or serviced after the new floor was in place. The second day was installation, and the third day was finishing the floor, after which I had to stay off it for several hours. Not a problem, since I went to work and the floor was dry when I got home. Initially they had forgotten to install a cap at the top of the stairs down to my living room, but when I pointed this out to them, they promptly rectified the situation. Afterward, they cleaned up, which included some vacuuming in the kitchen as well as the living room. Still, there's a lot of dust if you have the floor finished, as opposed to installing pre-finished wood. All in all they were excellent: prompt, courteous, professional, and the floor looks beautiful. If I ever have my carpeting replaced with hardwood floors, I'd definitely go with Saulnier.

I thought the prices were fine for the work they did. The staffs friendliness and professionalism were excellent.

I called several floors refinishers, Paul came out looked at the floors and discussed the various options. He explained the benefits and costs of each. He provided an estimate and had a Angie's discount coupon. He set a date to come and there were a few hiccups due to timing and traffic, but he worked with me to get the key to get into the house. The work was done very well, my floors were in bad shape and he had to come back and redo certain parts again. Which he did with no problems. His team was extremely neat and cleaned up very well. I was concerned about dust, as I had never had the floors done before, but it was not bad at all. I had cleared everything out and they had done a good cleaning, so it was just a little extra wiping down of the counters. He had to come back three times to redo. The last time there was an issue with one spot which he fixed. It isn't perfect, but I was ready to finish this project so didn't really push on the point. Overall, the floors look great compared with where they were to start.

I had made a mistake at first on the selection of monocoat finish as I did not like the smell of the other poly finish for the living room and the three days to dry as we have no other entry to the house.. However the workmen were fantastic in getting me to change to the water poly. They did a great job and were very professional. They left the house with no dust and in perfect order. This was a treat doing business with Paul and his four crew members.

They did a good job. They were reliable and did it in two stages to accommodate our schedule. They also came over a weekend to finish the second phase of the job.

What I liked about Saulnier Flooring: 1. The center kitchen island need to be removed to fix the water damage in my kitchen floor. Of course there are wires and pipes involved. Mark did it quickly and professionally, and we were charged reasonably for this part of the work, saved me time and money hiring a plumber, electrician, and etc. I really appreciate that a flooring company has people to do all this, and they didn't take the chance to rip me off. 2. They have great people! Bob came to do the estimate, he knew exactly what need to be done, gave good suggestion, and gave me options, mentioned we can contact home insurance to help pay for the work, which I had no idea we could. Mark came to do the preparation work before Brain came to repair the floor, two younger guys came and did the sanding and staining. Everyone is very professional, does good work, communicates well, and cleans up after the work. 3. They know floors! I had the second level bedroom floor refinished a while ago. But the general contractor didn't match the stain color very well with the rest of the house, did the top coat semi-glossy instead of satin, which made my bedrooms look cheap like a gym. And when they did the work, dust was all over the house. It was a nightmare, I had to have the whole house cleaned. And the top coat(polyurethane) smelled bad for months. When we need to fix the kitchen floor, we decided to fix the problems on the second floor too. Saulnier provided dustless sanding, and there was very little dust as promised. They suggested a waterborne top coat, which has only a little smell. They picked 3 stain colors which best matched the rest of the floors, applied each of them on a small area of my floor for me to pick. 4. They are on time and on budget. The owner Paul talked with me at the beginning, and scheduled everything being finished in about a week. I really doubted they can do things so efficiently, I thought to myself "something is going to happen, no way they can do so quickly as he said". I have hired quite some contractors before, not on time and budget was the norm. We were very pleasantly surprised when things finished exactly as Paul planned. Saulnier does charge higher than some other companies, but I think the price is justified by their knowledge, good people, and good service. I am happy to pay the premium to avoid the headache and uncertainty contract jobs usually bring.

I am very happy with them. They were very professional. They were on time. They showed up when they said they would. The estimate they gave was accurate and the schedule for the work was also accurate. Overall, it was a very professional experience and I was happy. They were installing hardwood floors for me so they were giving some other padding inside and there was a little bit of saw dust around the house, but they vacuumed after they were done so overall, the clean up was within my expectation. There were no complaints at all. I would use them again in the future.

We recently closed on a fixer-upper town house in S Boston. We knew we had work ahead of us, but not sure what was under wall to wall carpets. We started the project modestly: planning to refinish floors on the 1st level and 1st stairs, and install new floors on the 2nd level. The only challenge was they had to be finished so we could move in June 11 – not a lot of time. Once we got in there, the project grew and grew. All our choices based on seeing what was uncovered. But the timeline could not change. Saulnier was superb. They added more people to the job, worked weekend after weekend (including memorial day) and did a beautiful job on time. Never a complaint. Never a rush charge or unexpected expense. Obviously we spent more than we originally budgeted but the floors look fantastic, and worth ever penny. The Saulnier staff was knowledgeable, good spirited, prompt, very hardworking and clean. They even helped resolve a water leak that they had nothing to do with. All in all, a excellent experience.

We requested an estimate and a very professional installer came out to look things over. We were told we had to pack things up to move them out of the way. We went to their store to select the wood and planned a date. The installers arrived on time and went to work. They did a beautiful job. The floors came out fantastic. They even helped move furniture from room to room and placed it back when the job was finished ( which wasn't in the contract). We were very pleased with everything they did.

After a couple of visits to the Saulnier showroom and one visit for them to measure our space, we sent in a deposit and requested that they install a specific week (my wife and children would be out of town that week, so it was very convenient for getting work done). Paul Saulnier worked with the mill to ensure the wood would be available that week. He came by a few days in advance to review what we would need to do in order to prepare (move out furniture, refrigerator, etc.). All the work happened quickly and just as Paul said it would. There was a minor issue when the subfloors were not at the same level that Paul solved the same day. Paul was very available by phone or email to answer all of my questions along the way. My only disappointment was when he went on vacation with a couple of days left - the office was not as responsive, but did eventually come through for me and even moved my refrigerator back in to the kitchen for me. All in all, a very good experience. Most importantly, the new floor looks GREAT!

They were fine. The person who came out had come here before to give the price on insulation, but he acted like he didn?t know anything about it. Saulnier Wood Floors were more expensive than the people I ended up using. The ones I used were more reliable and had a better product. They had also been in this business for longer.

He had given us a quote earlier. I called him later on and he honored the quotes that he had given us earlier. He was really great. I was really happy with him. They tore up the old floor including the sub-flooring and replaced the sub-flooring and finished the work. They were excellent. They gave me some time to think about how to go about the work. All the people that they sent out were incredibly professional and incredibly nice and honest. They also cleaned up after themselves. They put up drapes so that dust wouldn?t enter the house.

They came out and gave me an estimate which I liked very much. I liked the guy who came out, he was excellent. They were professional and knowledgeable. I am quite sure I will be using them when I'm ready to have the work done.
