I was extremely pleased with everything about R.P.McLaughlin. I asked several questions during my initial conversation with this company such as what brand faucet they would recommend, pricing, billing policies etc., and the approximate time installation would take. All my questions were answered in complete detail and in a very pleasant manner. On the morning of my scheduled appointment, the plumber called ahead to say he was on his way. He arrived right on time. He was very professional, explaining and showing me the possible causes of the problem I was having with both the faucet and mixing valve. He left the work area very clean when he completed his job. I am more than satisfied with the work that was done and would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Replaced my kitchen faucet with one which I had purchased myself. Replaced a mixing valve for my washing machine.

On May 22nd I had a representative out from R.P. McLaughin to give us a quote to have a few plumbing lines moved in a bathroom. The representative was on time and very nice. I had a number of plumbers out, and this individual was my favorite person I spoke with. Two weeks after I had the R.P. McLaughlin representative out, I still had not received my quote (every other plumber we spoke with provided a quote within a week). I called the office and was told that we should have our quote in a week. Two weeks later (4 weeks after the representative visited our house), I received an email from the Company that they were not going to provide us with a quote and instead they were declining the work. Everyone from R.P. McLaughin was very nice, but it took 4 weeks to find out that we weren't even going to receive a quote for our project. While we weren't in a rush, this is still very disappointing.

Dear [removed member name], Please know we are sorry for being so backed up in work. We appreciate the kind words about our rep being very nice. Please accept our apology. I know its a late one. We need to learn to just say no when we have too much on our plumbing schedule. Very sorry! We hope all your plumbing issues were taken care of. Sincerely R.P. McLaughlin

Service was very punctual. I was offered a same-day appointment, and the plumber showed up only 30 minutes into the two-hour window I was given. He was very professional and knowledgeable and also very clean, even to the point of removing his boots every time he came in the house. He also explained to me exactly what needed to be done and gave me a fairly accurate estimate of the total cost.
Description of Work: Removed a very tough clog in the kitchen drain. Work consisted of removing a section of old copper piping, including a drum trap, and replacing it with new PVC and then snaking the drain all the way out to the main line.

I called to see if they could come out and they were very responsive in terms of setting up a date & time that my rental tenants could accomodate. They called the morning of the appointment to confirm and showed as expected. I had already purchased a new faucet to have installed. I didn't think think would be a large project. But due to miscommunication between the tenant and the plumber, they installed a new faucet instead. He called me after the fact and I informed him that I already bought it and would like the other removed and I didn't want to pay for it. He accommodated, but also charged me for the labor of removal and reinstallation which I was not happy about. I had also had a coupon from the Angie's List website for 10% off the job. When I got the bill, it was not deducted. They did immediately resolve that, but it was disappointing to have to call and address it. Work was acceptable, but nothing extraordinary. Price was not the best and communication could have been better. Responsiveness was excellent in terms of callbacks and flexibility on appointments.

I contacted RP McLaughlin on a Sunday because my water heater was leaking. The water heater is located in the kitchen so it would be devastating for the leak to continue. As it is there is some water damage to the floor. Anyway, this company does offer emergency services so when I called I was pleasantly surprised to have the phone answered by an actual person! Coincidentally, I attempted to contact another company (located in Revere) before RP McLaughlin but their phone number went to voice mail and it was full so I could not leave a message. The pleasant phone representative for RP McLaughlin said she would contact the tech on call. Tyler called back within two minutes! I explained my situation and he gave me some instructions to stop the leaking until Monday when it would be a little less expensive to repair. I received a call on Monday morning to schedule the new water heater install and Tyler showed up within 30 minutes. The old water heater was deeply corroded so it took Tyler a while to disconnect the damaged heater. He was very professional and diligent and most definitely pleasant and friendly. He worked very cleanly and left no debris behind. Tyler also installed a new kitchen faucet that I had on hand that I requested at the last minute. Tyler accepted my Angie's List discount and the final bill was less than expected. Overall I was thrilled working with this company and I have already recommended them to a neighbor! Thank you Tyler for the positive home repair!

On one of the coldest days of the year so far, I lost heat in one zone of my home--the kitchen/family room where we spend most of our time. My oil company, whom I called first, came out and checked the furnace. After hearing that I had used the fireplace the previous evening, the serviceman felt it was most likely an icing issue, and recommended that I call my plumber to de-ice the line. I had used R.P. McLaughlin Co. before with great satisfaction and called them immediately to get my heating problem resolved. Bob and his assistant arrived within the hour (!) and proceeded to check things out. They quickly found the source of the problem, but, to my dismay, could not use their de-icing machine on the blockage because part of the original installation was rubber with plastic piping that would not conduct a charge. The young man with Bob asked to borrow my space heater and in 2-3 minutes of holding it on the blockage, the flow was restored!! Great ingenuity! I had another concern with a bathroom over my garage that had non-responsive faucets, and the same issue arose--the charge wouldn't work. So Bob's assistant spent a bit of time in my basement trying to locate the turn-off valves to that bathroom and turned the water off to eliminate the possibility of flooding if, indeed, a pipe were to burst. I was so impressed by their responsiveness, resourcefulness, professionalism and willingness to take the time necessary to explain and solve the problem that I have made R.P. McLaughlin my plumber of record. I haven't been billed yet so I cannot comment on price, but for all the reasons mentioned above, I recommend their services without reservation.

It went better than I expected, I got 3 other estimates and these guys were the best!
Description of Work: Matt, fixed and installed a new sewer pipe in my cellar that connected to the main sewer pipe leading out to the Street. Matt was very, careful and professional in attending to my plumbing problem. He even took off his boots whenever he came up stairs and make sure he did not get any mud on my kitchen floors! The owners son, Robert ( straight talker and honest) came and gave me an estimate that was exactly what the final bill was but they even gave me $100 off with the use of my Angies list coupon.! I woudln't hesitate to call them again to come fix my plumbing problems and highly recommend them to anyone.

The story started last summer when we got two bids. The owner impressed me with his punctuality and careful explanations and tailoring the proposal to fit our situation. We were hesitant at first with this boiler because it's a super high efficiency (96%) where many experiences to date have been with poor reliability and excess maintenance and tune up. The other bid we got was for a conventional system. The owner agreed and said he has been solving that issue by installing a European designed system. These systems have been used in Europe for a long, long time (more than 30 years). After working up the quote we ended up with a 96% efficient system at the same price as the conventional system and with the best possible rebate that will make it less costly overall, not to mention using less gas. The company let us delay installation until we could burn off the oil in our tank then when we called set a date for starting that they met. Meanwhile they guided us through the process of setting up the gas line with the gas company and getting ready for rebates. There is an office person that coordinates all these things and is generally available by phone and is very responsive. Heating system replacements are usually installed in spring/summer/fall for obvious reasons. This company let us install in winter because we can heat entirely with wood as needed and still have the electric hot water. Even though we were not in a rush, after starting they finished as quickly as possible. They called before coming and always showed up when they said. The workmanship was top-notch with everything done very well, straight, plumb, level, and shiny. They let me know when they were leaving the site for errands, etc. And the acid test: how they responded to problems was great! Our boiler had a leak (factory defect) that required a new boiler. They spotted the problem and got a new boiler within a week - the leak wasn't big enough to prevent running the boiler. We never had to argue about this - something that should be the norm but often is not. Thanks for the great work!
Description of Work: The McLaughlin company installed a Prestige Solo 110 heating / hot water boiler, connected my gas dryer, and contracted to have the old system removed. Our house is about 900 s.f. The cost did not include the hot water heater but stubbed things out for installing later when we use up the old electric one. This boiler had a rebate of $1500 (the highest available).

Excellent service and would definitely recommend and use again. I am in the process of selling my house and two plumbing items came up in the inspection that I needed to get fixed. I needed to replace a kitchen faucet and replace the seal on a toilet. First off, I called to set up an appointment and the receptionist was able to quote me prices for both jobs, both prices were reasonable. When the plumber came out to do the install, he noticed that the toilet didn't in fact need a new seal, but just needed some tightening. He tightened the toilet at no charge. Great integrity and customer service there, since I would have been none the wiser if he had just gone ahead and replaced the seal! The kitchen faucet install went off without a hitch and the charge was $150 (minus $15 because of a 10% Angie's List coupon I had), which was exactly what had been quoted to me earlier. He also showed up on time. I can't think of anything that they could have done better.

They did a top notch job, were very professional and respectful but again, trying to get pricing both before and immediately following the completion of service was a problem. Make sure they tell you what the cost will be before they start doing the work. Though the second plumber gave me a general idea of costs, not having costs prior to the start of the job makes one suspicious and only hurts the customer company relationship. That is why I gave the overall experience a "C" and the pricing a "B"
Description of Work: I found the plumbers who came to our house very professional, and they took the time to explain everything they were doing. We had a laundry room hook-up replaced and a leaking bathroom drain. They had to return twice to get the drain to stop leaking, but were very prompt and courteous, and charged nothing for any parts because they had to return twice after the initial repair. The one problem I did have was, we had called to get somebody to come and look at the issue, and when they arrived they immediately went to work and provided no idea on the cost. When finished, they insisted we had to sign a sheet for the work, but still would not provide pricing. The plumber said we had to sign to prove he was there, but a phone call to the office could certainly confirm that he was there. I voiced several times my concern about doing that, but he said he couldn't leave until we signed to confirm he was there. We were told they would call with pricing later that day, but we did not receive a call, and the person answering the phone seemed perturbed that we wanted to know the pricing. Maybe they were just having a bad day when we called, but I work in customer service, and know that my bad day is nothing like the customers, and I cannot let my bad day filter over to servicing them. I would have given them all A's on this, but performing the work and then refusing to leave until we signed a blank order form does not bode well with me or my family. The second plumber said the first plumber should not have done that, and gave us a general idea on the costs, but still it took three days to get a final solid confirmation on the pricing. While I would use them again for how well they performed the work and were dedicated to getting the job done, I would not do so without first getting pricing up front before any work is performed, and if they couldn't do that, then I would have to go elsewhere.

They did the job as described and did a very professional job. The new water heater is great and is twice as powerful as the competition wanted to install for the same price (with the competition the water heater would not have been able to handle more than a shower and a dishwasher in the middle of winter), the new setup looks very well done and clean. Sabrina was also very helpful in walking me through the process and coordinating everything. The only 2 things that could have been better are: -The pipes coming out of the house are bigger than I was expecting, I wish they had insisted on that so I could prepare myself (or route the pipes somewhere else) -The oil tank removal company they used was not as professional as RP McLaughlin. They did remove the tank without making a mess (which did not seem easy at all) but they came unannounced and tried to leave a hole in the side of the house where the oil refilling hose was located (why they did not left the fixture there seem strange to me). But when reported to RP McLaughlin Sabrina made sure they completed the job (although sloppily).

They were excellent! I would definitely call them again if I had any plumbing needs. He (I think his name was Matt) found the problem with the leaky faucet in about 2 minutes, but still took the time to explain what was wrong and what I could check for next time. He was also extremely professional and thoughtful. He and his apprentice took off their shoes every time they came into the house and put everything back neatly under the sink before they left.
Description of Work: I called because I had a leaky faucet and I needed a garbage disposal installed. The faucet was the kitchen faucet and it seemed like there was water coming out of the hose under the sink. We did not already have a garbage disposal, so we needed some of the pipes to be cut to fit the disposal as well.

I called this company on July 14 2012. I was very excited to come across this company on angies list because I found two reviews for two different projects I needed. One was to add a second water spout outside the house (for right now) the second depending on how well the water spout went I was going to ask for an estimate to get central A.C. for next spring. So I called on the stated date (saturday) and got a phone call back immediately. this person took down all my info and and stated someone would call me back. They did within a few hrs they called me and asked me about how my basement was set up etc. then they proceeded to tell me the owner would have to take a look at it. Either on 7/16/12 or 7/17/12 someone else called me back with the same questions and again they told me i would get a call back, i still haven't heard back. addendum: RP Mclaughlin did contact me again and Bob came out to my home on August 7th. He apologized for the miscommunication and explained how they were extremely busy with high volume calls. I got my estimate quick and I did go with the service. Bob was genuine and courteous it was only fair to give the company a chance to remedy what was an unfortunate miscommunication. I'm very happy I did, Matt came out today (8/14) to install my outdoor faucet. It was a small project but he left everything clean and even removed his shoes before entering my home. He also explained to me how to winterize it. I would definitely hire them again. Thank You!

See above The plumber assigned to my job(s) was very informative and advised a couple of ways to save a few dollars in the end, (especially since he had to schedule around the contractor). This is always appreciated.
Description of Work: #1: replaced my kitchen stove (gas) and dishwasher so they needed to be disconnected, and then reconnected once the new appliances were delivered. My plumber arrived on time and took the previously advised amount of time to disconnect both items, and 3 days later returned to reconnect. They did their best to work with my schedule, since I work5 days/week. The price quotes were right on, and all "what if's" were accounted for. #2-replaced the upstair bath toilet, vanity with top and faucet. Scheduled a disconnect on a Friday and reconnected two days after the construction contractor replaced the floor, molding, vanity,e tc. Again, arrived at both right on schedule and took no more then the previously quoted time frame to get the job done correctly, and cleaned up very well. All of Bob's personnel are very courteous and professional in everyway.

From the time Matt entered our house to the moment he left, he worked efficiently and thoroughly to repair the small plumbing issues we had throughout the house. On 7/1 we had a shower of water from the toilet into the basement. I picked RPMc from Angie's List based on the number of reviews within 5 miles of our home. Josh called me back within a hour of leaving a message and was here first thing this morning @7:30 AM. He replaced the toilet flange, leaded it in, replaced the seal and was done by 10 AM. Josh was very polite and patient in answering all questions. We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent price for the work. We now have an official plumbing company for our home. We would recommend RPMc to anyone. THANKS for the quality service!!

We've used Mc Laughlin plumbing before and had a great experience. It goes to show you... stick with a good thing. We had several (six to be exact) estimates for converting our home from oil to natural gas. Three of the people that came out didn't bother to bid on the job... weird. Bob's estimate came in very competitively AND he was a distributor for the boiler we wanted to use. We met with him early in July and wanted to burn our tank down before making the switch since we'd already paid out our nose for the oil. We scheduled for early/mid August. Bob told us that if we ran out of oil before the job was scheduled, he would come out and install a temporary propane system immediately. We ended up not needing it. The work took about two weeks to complete with a brief hiatus for vacations, etc. We were never inconvenienced and they made absolutely sure that we had hot water. The newly installed boiler is wall mounted, they did a lovely job building a wall and secured everything neatly. They sub-contract with a company that is licensed to remove oil tanks, they did a lovely job as well. We had a couple of minor problems with leaks at two different solder points. When called, they came out promptly and fixed them and one year later we remain problem free. We are no longer paying stupid crazy oil bills and the boiler itself seems to be running extremely efficiently. Bob prepared all the paperwork for the rebates, and made sure we knew about the Mass Save Heat Loan program that offers 0% financing for seven years. We are planning a bathroom remodel next year and the only number we will call is Mc Laughlin's. Third times a charm!
Description of Work: Switched from Oil to Natural Gas. Installed top of the line Prestige Triangle Tube high efficiency modulating/condensing boiler, moved existing hot water tank and removed oil tank.

Tech arrived on time, listened to the tale of the failure of the hide , went to work to diagnose, told us of higher quality hoses that would be more reliable. We agreed to let him do the work, we bought a new faucet (as we did with the first plumber) and Mclaughlin installed all of it. Since February, the hose has not failed. We are thrilled as a flooded kitchen floor is no picnic. And the initial failures occurred during the New Year's holiday.
Description of Work: The McLaughlin technician replaced the hose to the sprayer at the kitchen sink. It had been replaced x2 by another plumber, but that plumber did not realize it was a failure of the materials. When the hose failed a third time, we joined Angie's List and found McLaughlin. The McLaughlin technician told us of other materials that would be more reliable and we agreed to the installation. The hose continues to perform well.(With the 1st plumbing company, the hose failed twice and they never suggested other materials, just suggested the same material and would charge us for it, all 3 visits within a 6 week period)
