Matt was professional, friendly, efficient and clean. This is definitley the most positive experience that we've ever had with a plumber. I highly recommend RJ McLaughlin and will tell everyone I know about them. I will call them now for all my plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Our outside faucet broke, gushing water. The house was built with no shut off valve for that faucet. We had to shut off the water for the entire house to stop the gushing. Called a different plumber in the morning (Saturday) who left with the faucet part to find a replacement. Four hours later, he called to tell us no one had a replacement part and it would be too much work and expensive to install a shut off valve, he told us that he would be by on Monday morning with the replacement part. We have 4 kids so no water in the house through the weekend would be very inconvenient. I found RJ McLaughlin on Angie's List, called them at 1:40pm, the plumber, Matt, was at our home before 2pm. Matt was out the door at 2:16p. In only a few minutes and for an extremely reasonable amount, he was able to install a shut off valve.

The man who came was polite and helpful. He even set up ahead so that the city workers here to turn off the main valve to the street would not have to be here long. Because of this, the amount that I owed to the town was half what it would have been. The entire job was completed in less than two hours. This is the second time I have used this plumbing company. They also replaced an outside faucet a couple of weeks ago. Both experiences were excellent.

I called McLaughlin in the late morning after discovering a leaky mess under my sink. I had no idea where the leak was coming from. I left a message and within minutes Sabrina returned my called. She was completely professional and told me that she would try to get someone to come by today. Josh arrived by early afternoon and discovered that the leak was originating from a hose to my water filters. Josh explained that he could do a couple of different things but since we don't use the filtered water spigot, I chose to just cap it. Josh was done in a few minutes and told me how to dry out under the sink. While he was here I asked him to look at a leaky pipe in my bathroom as well. He determined that it was another easy fix and that the nut just needed to be tightened. I wish I had called earlier. Josh was so helpful and polite. Completely prompt and professional! Would definitely recommend. They are my new favorite plumbers!

I contacted R.P. McLaughlin about replacing the water heater. Bob put me in contact with Sabrina - and Sabrina helped me work through the process of picking a new one. I tend to do a bit of web research myself and generally know what I am looking for (and what I should expect to pay) and this can occasionally annoy contractors. I'm not saying that my choices are always correct - but I appreciate when my input or opinion isn't completely dismissed. Sabrina was patient as we emailed back and forth about the model - and then came back with pricing that was right in line with my expectations. They ordered the unit and provided an expected delivery date. The unit came in on time. They scheduled the appointment and told me the name of the plumber that would be showing up. As a woman, I appreciated knowing who to expect. The plumber called when he was on his way, and he and his assistant introduced themselves when they arrived. They were polite and professional but friendly. They installed the unit as expected, cleaned up after themselves, and then showed me the new unit and the various maintenance items associated with it. They also installed a faucet for me while they were there (I had scheduled that as well). I was very pleased with the service that they provided and will use them for my future plumbing needs.
Description of Work: I needed a 12 year old, gas power-vented water heater replaced.

I called R.P. McLaughlin Co. because it was local and because of all the great reviews on Angie's List. First of all, we had a hard time making contact. Part of that was our fault, but part was because our calls were not promptly returned. Finally, after several weeks of missed connections, Matt called me at 7AM and asked if he could come over then. I was in bed but got up and he came just before 8. His first diagnosis of the problem was incorrect and then he came up with a couple of other suggestions before hitting on his final recommendation, i.e. that we get some sort of storage or extra heating tank. He gave me three options, but said that he would have to get Bob to call us regarding pricing. This consultation cost $85.00 even with the discount coupon through Angie's List. Bob never called back. My husband called several times, leaving messages. Finally, he reached Bob who said he was sorry, that our job had "fallen through the cracks," and he would call back "next week." Because we did not hear back, my husband called again and was told that he would get a call back the next day. We never received another call. In my opinion, if you are too busy to take a job or if you are just not interested in doing a particular job (this was a big job--several thousand dollars) for whatever reason, you should just say so and refer your potential customer elsewhere. Our job was delayed over a month with all of the back and forth and I paid $85 for a plumbing consultation--no work done at all. Charging us for the initial visit was tacky, especially since we were ready to hire them to do a big job. Perhaps I should have known from that that they had no intention of returning. If the job had been done, it would have easily paid for Matt's initial visit. Also, when I first called, I was clear about our problem and I do not think that Matt had the level of expertise necessary to diagnose and make recommendations. I am very disappointed and would not recommend this company. I do not think that they approach their work in a professional manner. I think they should give me my money back since they did no work for me, but I am not going to bother calling again. I doubt that they would call back.
Description of Work: We have a continuous hot water system off our boiler but stopped getting enough hot water. We took lots of cold showers and could not get enough hot water to fill the bathtub. We had the heating company with whom we have a service contract out several times to address the issue but they were unable to find or fix the problem and suggested that we contact a plumber.

It was an excellent experience. They were very professional. The worker they had come out to our home was very patient and tedious. He installed faucets for me. I had one that I preferred to use over another that I had purchased. He started to install the less preferred one and when I stopped him, he was very understanding. He was patient with me and took his time on all of the work. They quoted a price and number of hours for the project. It ended up taking much longer than the expected time; however, they did not charge me any additional fees for this extra time.
Description of Work: Variety of plumbing jobs. They disconnected an old gas stove and reconnected the new one. They changed out the vanity, faucet and a toilet. They also did a second faucet in another bathroom.

. This is about the third time in the last 2 years, and McLaughlin has always met or exceeded expectations. It seems they now do more general carpentry, so I will check that out as well, in the future.
Description of Work: Two toilets that needed the flushing mechanism were fixed. In addition, two sinks with ineffective draining were corrected. I wanted to have the heating registers in our entryway examined, but the technician talked me out of it, saying that we should keep the door to the kitchen open.

My water heater failed on Thursday, 12/15/2011, so Friday morning I called McLaughlin (I had used them once before) to see about getting a new one installed. I spoke to Bob, (presumably) the owner, and he quoted me a price for a providing and installing a heater with a 6-year warranty. The quote was for $1000. I asked about getting one with a 12-year warranty, and he said that would add about $200. I also asked about the installation cost, should I decide to provide the water heater myself, and he said about 1/2. Rather than try to align the installation date/time with the water heater delivery from a 3rd party, I opted to have the plumber provide the heater. Bob told me he would try to get it done that day (Friday), but couldn't guarantee it as they had a very full slate. He said he, or someone from his company, would call as soon as they knew whether they could do the work that day. This was about 8 AM. I received a call about noon, from Mark, one of the plumbers, telling me they would be at my place in about 1/2 an hour. Mark and his assistant Tyler arrived on time. They removed the old water heater, brought in the new one, with practically no mess, and no damage to my kitchen floor, which I had been concerned about since the previous installation had scratched up my (then linoleum) floor, and I now have hardwood floors. I asked Mark for a price on the sensor/pan setup, he said an additional $300, so I opted for that as well. Once the installation was completed, he showed me how the sensor worked and how to reset it should it go off. Everything was done professionally, with courtesy and dispatch. As far as I can tell, the quality of the work appears to be very high, but of course time will tell. I don't know about relative prices, since I didn't get a quote from at least 3 vendors, as I usually do, being rather anxious to get the work done before the weekend. I've used McLaughlin twice, and both times the work was done on time, at the price quoted, and very professionally. Since I need plumbing services rarely, I am not that price sensitive, since I think good plumbers, like good doctors, don't come cheap. Granted a high price is no guarantee of high quality, but a low price almost assures low quality. Of course, if you have the time, you do at least some price shopping among the top-rated plumbers on the list. The only reason I rated the price a "B" is because I didn't comparison shop. Had I found their prices to be competitive with other top-rated plumbers on the list, I'd have rated this an "A" as well. I would unhesitatingly recommend McLaughlin Plumbing, and will use them in the future.
Description of Work: They replaced my electric water heater, which had failed the day before. In addition to the installation, I had them provide the water heater - one with a 12-year warranty - and had them install a pan and water sensor that automatically shuts off the water to the heater and sounds an alarm when moisture in the pan (installed under the heater) is detected. The entire installation took about 3 hours.

This company is amazing, from the call that I made to inquire about the service to the actual service itself. I called during the morning of the North Shore "flash flood" and the lady was so nice. She asked if they could call me back in a few days since they were flooding, and they actually called the very next day. When the plumber "Josh" came, he was so great. He was puctual. He was respectful and very thorough. He didn't judge me at all or make any comments whatsoever about the fact that i had had the sink and toilet installed (apparently incorrectly) by a handyman. He also didn't act like a macho "know it all" which had been my experience with some plumbers in the past. He explained everything he would do. He was so calm and respectful. Josh fixed everything in about an hour and a half. He even was able to replace a missing part of the installation hardware (a washer) under the sink that my handyman apparently failed to install or lost. This actually was causing the leak under the brand new sink. He reinstalled the toilet. They bill by the hour but also bill for partial hours which was great. I would absolutely use this company again, no question at all. I would especially ask for Josh.

The process was efficient and he triple checked everything, especially the gas lines. I was very happy with the service.
Description of Work: Recently moved from one location to another. Had plumber come to disconnect our gas dryer and washer then returned a few days later to the new house to reconnect. The new location had old washer hoses still attached to spigot, they were really well rusted out and the hoses were not coming off. He put on a new spigot, attached the new lines, reattached the dryer putting on a new gas line to the main feed and venting duct.

Dealing with this company was a joy from beginning to end. After contacting them on Angie's list, I received a callback from Jim who asked me about the project in detail and quoted an apporoximate price based on their hourly rate and materials. I'm please to say the job cost less than estimated! We set up a time later in the week for the work to be done. Later that day, I received a callback from Josh who asked if I was available as they had an unexpected opening. Of course, I was available and Josh came along and did an excellent and efficienct job. Jim subsequently arranged for the plumbing inspection for the permit. It was so smooth and seamless. I would defintelly recommend this company to anyone who needed plumbing services.

Fabulous service! I had gotten esimates that were nearly double RP McLaughlin's, although their quote involved a much higher-end system, and involved more extensive plumbing work than I think would have been necessary. From the time of his estimate to the work being completed was less than a week. Their estimate was spot-on. I had about three minor glitches that Bob (the owner) took care of himself. The first one involved a new Thermostat that MassSave had installed a few months prior to this work; it had a problem connecting to the furnace, so it didn't come on one cold winter morning. Bob was there within an hour and fixed it. within a 1/2 hour. I had a couple of other minor glitches; on one, Bob came right away and fixed it. The other one he helped me fix it by phone (an electrical switch tripped and shut off the system). Incidently, the sub-contracted electrician was also prompt and professional in all their work as was the junk hauler who took away the old furnance and water heater. They reviewed and double-checked all their work, and ensured I was satisfied before they left. I highly recommend this company. First rate all the way!
Description of Work: They replaced my old old oil-converted-to-gas furnace and gas water heater with a high-efficiency Boiler that provided both heat & hot water, along with some new piping and ventiing. I needed a brand new heating system for my home. After pricing our quite a few different plumbers I found Mclaughlin to have the best prices around. They were so punctual and provide such amazing service. My prior heating system had died in the dead of the winter, Mclaughlin was out the very next day since they didn't want to see me in the cold. They put a temporary fix on my old furnace until my new high efficiency one could be delivered and installed. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for quality service and professionalism

They came down to take care of the plumbing problem. They were very good. They called me back right away. I called them the next day and they came out that same day. They were great. They were very prompt and attentive. They seemed concerned about what was going on. The guy was really nice.
