Marcellos Design & Builders

I am a fairly particular person and Marcello's crew stuck to my schedule/timeframe. His crew worked over the weekend since I had hardwood floor people coming in on a specific day, followed by HVAC folks etc. I liked his open communication and willingness to explain items and options. I felt the price was reasonable for the work completed. I also added a few items while they were (i.e. trim work). I would highly recommend Marcello's crew and I hope to use his services in the future. Most contractors will not call you back and or stop by your home to see how the project is progressing; Marcello stopped by several times throughout the work.

Marcello's is one of the best contractors we have worked with. If my project is any indication, he goes way beyond the extra mile to do a very high quality job, keep his customer happy and keep the project going at a steady pace and complete on time. His work was of very high quality. He takes personal care and pride in his work. I contracted Marcello's to remodel sunroom and rebuild the deck above the sunroom. During the project, he encountered a number of complications (foundation issues, underground water near stair landing etc). In each case, he took it upon himself to design robust solutions and correct the problem thoroughly. I noticed his crew would often spend hours doing detailed work just so it was done right - most other contractors would have simply cut corners. Examples: multiple coats of paint on walls and deck, fixing and repouring foundation just so my deck is extra-stable, adding extra wood overhangs around sunroom and deck so water drains right, the list goes on. None of this was spelled out in the contract, yet he did it because it was "the right thing". The technical superiority of his work is only surpassed by the beauty of his end product. My wife is not easily satisfied when it comes to home renovations. Marcello's deck and sunroom were so well done, that she conceded it exceeded her image of the ideal end-result before the project began. The deck looked perfect, the paint was thorough, minor details were cared for such as restoring siding, and perfectly matching siding color etc. Sunroom and floor was perfectly finished and painted. During the project he gave expert advise that made you feel like you were in good hands - such as why laminated wood floor would be a better option than tiles (my wife's first choice). We got second opinions from experienced contractors and they agreed. In hindsight, wood even looks better! Last, but not the least, Marcello and his crew are of very personable demeanor. Very easy to get along with, a pleasure to work with and have around. I would rehire Marcello's in a heartbeat, and have already recommended to friends.

I didn't use them because I found somebody else that was able to do a more comprehensive job. Marcello's didn't do masonry and I found a company that did painting, carpentry and masonry. There was nothing about them per say. He showed up on time and got me a quote two days later. If his company had grown to where it offered complete services I certainly would have gone with him. They didn't offer the full scope of services.

This was a fantastic experience. We've done a lot of work on our house (contractors and ourselves) and Marcello is easily the best construction experience we've had. My wife and I are both very handy which makes us knowledgeable about construction and *very* particular about work quality, and Marcello impressed us all the way. This was a big project for us and we interviewed 6 different contractors and chose Marcello. From the first meeting Marcello was friendly, knowledgeable and very eager to do exactly what we wanted. We provided a rough plan for the space layout and Marcello provided ideas on how to improve the use of the space and materials recommendations. We also wanted to do some of the finish work ourselves (tile, trim, paint, etc.) and he just deducted that from the work he would do and worked very well to coordinate with our schedule around those items. His carpenters worked very quickly and were very good at getting everything square and straight. Joey also did a really nice job on framing custom build-outs (closets, ledge around room, access panels, gas fireplace, etc.) to work around the many impediments that exist in basements (heating pipes, vents, low ceiling areas, unevenness of fieldstone walls, etc.). They did such a great job decoratively hiding these items it actually gives nice character to the space. The best feature was a 16' ledge and a built-in cabinet that they created where there would have been wasted space above the lower foundation wall (lower wall was about 1' proud of upper wall) which makes the space look larger and not basement-like at all. They also suggested and drywall finished one of the deeper window wells at 45-degrees and it's amazing how much more light it lets in. Anyone who comes over remarks how cool it looks and how much light there is and can't believe they are basement windows. They built all walls and space exactly as we had drawn and all doors and window open/close easily and are plumb. They did such a nice job it doesn't feel like a basement space at all. Marcello was very patient with any changes we made to the plans and was always willing to do whatever we wanted. We made one change late on that required undoing some earlier work and he gladly did what we wanted and just kept asking to make sure we were happy. It’s now our favorite area of the house, and we’re still amazed every time we look back at the “before” pictures of a dark cold basement. We've already hired Marcello back to rebuild our front porch and they're working as I type this!

I contacted Marcello because I needed a built-in bedroom closet. Marcello readily came to my place to see the design and the space where the closet would be. He understood the nature of the work, confidently expressed interest, and set a time for a second visit so his project manager could assess what would be needed. On the second visit, the details of the work and slight modifications to enhance the structure and function of the closet were clarified. I was asked my opinions and needs for the closet, and the final decisions were based on the mutual input of the three of us. When the initial cost estimate for the project was over my budget, Marcello willingly worked with me to modify the type of wood used in order to meet my budget. As it happened, another job he was doing required the wood that I had originally wanted, and the quantity that he bought led to a discount for him This enabled him to build my closet with the type of wood that I had wanted without increasing the cost. I learned that accommodating his customers and achieving their satisfaction is one of Marcello’s primary goals. During the construction, Marcello communicated with me by email and phone, keeping me updated about the plans and texting photos of the job’s progress. He scheduled the installation date for a Saturday to ensure that I could be home without taking time from my job. His carpenters focused on their work, and any options for adjusting the plans due to structural imperfections in the room were fully explained to me. My input and consent were included in changes that were made. The work required a second day, and in their good-natured, upbeat, respectful manner, they continued to be serious about their work, keeping me informed along the way. I was impressed with their persistence, strong work ethic, and attention to the esthetics of the job. The finished product is a beautiful, large, strong closet that is a major asset to my storage needs, property values, and the attractiveness of my bedroom.

He was a nice guy. The price was too much and that’s why I did not hire him. He was very professional. I liked him a lot. There was nothing I did not like about him. I might be calling him again, may be call him today as a matter of fact.

Only visual inspection was performed, as no work/quote was needed at the time.

Everything went very well. Marcello was quick to respond to my call, arranged a site visit, and followed up with a proposal. The proposal specified a limited amount of repair and staining, but his crew did all necessary repairs, staining and trim painting for the agreed upon price. We bought the new front and storm doors, but Marcello picked them up and brought them here without charge. His price for our bathroom fan installations (I bought the fans) was well below several quotes from other electricians. All construction materials were taken away at the end of the project and the sites left clean. Marcello did a site visit upon completion of the project to inspect the work and confirm my satisfaction.

2 VM . no response, I assume they are only after big jobs

Marcello's estimate for the work was inline with others. He showed up when he said he would and his team worked continuously until the job was complete. They were there everyday at 7am and worked until 7-8pm on many evenings. They finished the job on time and with great quality! Marcello and Joe were very creative and extremely detail oriented. As the project went along, there were extras that I wanted done. Marcello worked with us to meet our budget and the end product is fabulous. They also did some extra little jobs in my house that had nothing to do with the original project, including refinishing a stair case, painting a stairwell & media room, plastering some ceiling holes in my dining room, and fixed a granite counter top in my kitchen. Marcello, Joe and the team were wonderful to work with and we will absolutely hire them again in the future!

Hiring Marcello as our general contractor was the best decision we made during the renovation process. What started as a total kitchen and master bath remodel spiraled into a much bigger project?we ended up replacing most of the doors, door trim and crown molding in our 4-story house and painted nearly the entire house, including all the stairway spindles. The reason why we kept giving him extra work was because after he and his crew started, we were so pleased with their attitude and workmanship that frankly, we didn?t want to risk hiring other contractors. From the first day he and his crew showed up, he made a very warm first impression by thoroughly wrapping the stairway with both bubble wrap and Styrofoam. Knowing that I had spent three weeks stripping, sanding and staining the banister, I very much appreciated this considerate gesture. It also showed me that he really cared and respected my house. Throughout the 4-month renovation process, Marcello stopped by almost daily to check in with his crew. It bears mentioning that every member of his crew was professional and friendly and was always willing to help me out with things that were outside their work responsibilities, such as moving furniture and other heavy items around, bringing in my mail and packages, taking out my trash, mopping up my floors after the toilet and basement flooded (on separate occasions) etc. In fact, on one particularly rainy day while my husband and I were out, we came home to find out that Marcello and his crew had taken out our sump pump and used it to prevent our basement from flooding. They did this all without us asking. Also, because I?m pregnant, he purchased a brand new HEPA vacuum and made his painters wrap each room and clean-up daily to reduce the amount of dust in the air. I felt completely at ease giving Marcello and his crew my house key and having them come in early to work on the house while I was still sleeping. Marcello always has a can-do attitude. At the initial inspection, when the building inspector rejected our bathroom design, Marcello, on his own dime, hired an architect to draw up plans, which took care of the problem. When the vent pipe that came with the range hood wouldn?t fit neatly into the space, he made one from scratch himself using sheet metal! When our window screen got torn, he had it repaired immediately. In fact, Marcello has bailed us out, so to speak, on numerous occasions when our other contractors failed to live up to their end of the bargain. When the first roofer we hired improperly repaired the shingles, removed our gutter and then abandoned the job, Marcello had his roofer come that same afternoon and fix the problem. When we couldn?t find a carpenter to make a custom vanity that could support a concrete sink, he came to the rescue and his carpenter produced a truly masterful piece. Every time we hit a hiccup with one of the other contractors (not associated with him), Marcello was there calming us down and reassuring us that he will take care of it. What a lifesaver! Not only is he a super nice guy but also, Marcello is extremely professional and takes a lot of pride in his work. Any time an issue cropped up, he would fix it. Throughout this entire process, he kept encouraging us to bring up anything with which I?m not completely satisfied. As is common with old houses, there are oftentimes ?surprises? lurking behind the walls. But even after demolition, Marcello didn?t charge us extra for these surprises. He stuck to his initial quote from beginning to end. He never rushed us for payment. In short, I would hire Marcello again in a heartbeat.

It went very well. Marcello gave us a quote the same day that he came out to look at the job. We went back and forth for a couple of weeks getting all the details worked out and then they went to work. He has a big crew, some days there were a half dozen guys here. Marcello was very responsive to questions, and was not thrown when some additional details were requested (such as replacing some old and tired-looking valves and fittings, and tucking formerly exposed plumbing into the wall). The job did run somewhat longer than quoted, this was probably due to the use of some unusual floor insulation tiles that were slow in delivery. He and his crew were here until nearly 11 PM on the last day to finish the job up. They built a little closet to hide the sump pumps and battery backup unit. Of the 3 contractors I have used in the last 3 years this was the best experience by far. I feel that I got good value, they worked hard to complete the job, and they knew exactly how to get it done.

Marcello and his crew gutted our entire first and second floor kitchen and bathroom.Also they finished part of our basement and before they did the water proofing with drainings and sump pumps (02) of those because we had in the past so much water in our basement that we would like to be security we are ok with this big investiment we did in our basement.They are very professional and prompt to our needs.I know Marcello were very busy but he every day stoped by our property to check hows everything was done with his supervisors.We are very happy with Marcellos company that we want to give to them 5 stars for high quality and our satisfaction.We will hire Marcellos renovations in the future and will recommend to our friends and family.Thanks again Marcello.

Marcello's Renovations was excellent. Their estimate of the work was detailed, their prices were significantly more affordable than another top Angie's List company we'd interviewed, and they kept to their estimate exactly. Ultimately, the work was completed over the course of 4-5 days. The crew was very professional, punctual, and hard-working. The head person also was very responsive to any requests or questions.

We couldn't be happier with this project. In the end the job looked great - even better than we expected. Marcello's carpenter does amazing work and the built-in shelving/entertainment center that he built is beautiful. All of our friends and family who have seen it admire the work. In addition, they had to do some complicated framing to hide some exposed pipes on the ceiling, but it looks great. We had some issues getting the project started due to the delays in our town with getting a permit and various inspections along the way, but Marcello communicated with us often, keeping us posted about the status. All of the people on Marcello's team were great, easy to communicated with and professional. They always cleaned up every day, so we never felt uncomfortable being down in the basement to look at the work and talk to Marcello and his team with our 3 year old around. This was a fabulous job and I highly recommend Marcello's Renovations.

Our experience with Marcello's Renovations was top rate! We were about to close on a home that required a lot of esthetic work - wallpaper stripping, interior painting, simple carpentry, basement remodeling and exterior painting. Upon the recommendation of a close friend I called Marcello. He was prompt to return my call and he was immediately available to inspect the home to give us an estimate. We were working under very strict time constraints as we only had 2.5 weeks between the time we closed on the home and the move in date. Also we had a 6 month old baby and we wanted all the painting done and the house aired out before we moved in. Marcello assured us that he would be done all the work in time for the move and he made it happen. We had a competing bid from another general contractor but we decided to go with Marcello (even though his pricing was a little higher) because of his responsiveness and professionalism and we were not disappointed with our decision. Marcello and his crew came through for us and produced a fantastic product and met our expectations completely. The house we bought was old and needed a facelift. Marcello and his crew proceeded to try to remove the wallpaper and upon finding it would ruin the walls and require new walls if it were removed, Marcello came up with a quick, easy solution to prime, skim coat and paint the walls. He assured us that we would never be able to tell there was wallpaper there and he was right! We now have a modern looking house and the walls look great! We also wanted Marcello to build some window seats in some of the upstairs bedrooms. His carpenters did such a good job that the window seats look like they have always been part of those bedrooms. The basement work was extensive and ended up taking a little longer than expected mainly because the carpet was late in arriving (not Marcello's fault but a glitch with Home Depot) and then we mistakenly thought it was the wrong color. Marcello was responsive and took action in a timely fashion, wanted us to be totally happy with the end result and was willing to do what it took to make that happen. We ended up keeping the carpet and once Marcello and his crew were done our basement looked really fantastic. Now we have a safe, comfortable play area for our daughter. We also decided to get some exterior painting done for the front door and entranceway and the window shutters. We were very pleased with the result. We needed some electrical work and our wooden floors refinished and Marcello recommended vendors. We went with his suggestions and ended up being very happy with their work. Overall, Marcello was amazing to work with. He is very responsive, by email, text and phone and even though we had him doing the work during the busiest season of the year, he gave us top notch service and attention. He believes in a high quality product and he delivers just that. His crew was very hard working, courteous, respectful and trustworthy. We were really very happy with our interaction with Marcello and his crew and we give them the highest recommendation.

He was very helpful. He watched around, took time, and even gave suggestions. We haven't done anything yet. We are kind of uncertain on how we want to move forward with the work. They are very responsive, helpful, and polite. I would recommend them.

Marrcello's sub contracted with excellent work. New for plumbing and electric. He was always available and we went very happy with the quality of the work.

In all matters, the people from Marcello's Renovations were courteous, efficient and knowledgeable in their trade. The results of their work were just as we had envisioned. We highly recommend them for your job.

I called Marcello to set up an appointment and he came and gave me an estimate which I thought was very fair. He showed up on time with his flooring guy to introduce us as he would be doing all the work.. Within a few hours he had ripped out the old flooring and prepped the area for the new flooring. I must say that his flooring guy was a real craftsman as he made sure the new flooring lined up with every nook and cranny especially around the molding and the closets. They finished the job in a day like they said they would and they even removed an old broken refrigerator for me. I have never done a review on Angie's list before.but felt compelled to do so as I never expected this level of craftsmanship for an installation of basement floor.

I got six different quotes for the work we needed done in our home. Some recommended slapping some paint over the water damage. Some indicated massive amounts of tearing down and rebuilding. Only two suggested work that appeared reasonable, given the circumstances. Marcello’s references were very positive, he clearly communicated the scope of the project, and he was prompt in his calls back in response to my questions. And this was before the work began. Marcello’s team was great. They arrived early every day, they respected that we needed to live in our house during the construction and kept things sealed and clean, they were open to discussion about the work being done, and they were extraordinarily hard-working and efficient. The 2-3 week estimate for the work was completed in one week. They completely replaced a ceiling, several walls, and repainted several rooms. When the work was finished I re-hired them for some additional projects. I highly recommend Marcello. He is honest, thoughtful about the work, competitively priced, and truly alleviated my panic at having my house torn apart.

Marcello and his team of two were very prompt, responsive, polite and professional. Marcello estimated that our job would take two full days, and he was just about right. They arrived on time, were surprisingly quiet, and were very polite and respectful while my wife and I were still at home. They even took their boots off when they first entered the house. They were very efficient and clean - they covered all counter tops, furniture and floors with plastic, and draped it down from the ceilings in the kitchen while they did the demolition of the ceiling. All plaster patchwork and painting was perfectly executed, making our house look exactly like it did before the water damage. We felt comfortable enough with Marcello and his crew to leave them at my house and go to work for the entire day. And, one of the best parts of the experience was that each day that we arrived back home, the house appeared CLEANER than when we left it, even though they were cutting, sanding and painting all day inside. We were very impressed and satisfied with their work.

Marcello?s and his crew was very responsive and personable. They being in touch with us either in person email or phone calls and they are always on time. After the basement all gutted Marcello?s suggested to install trench drain and back up sump pump just to be safe. Also they fixed concrete floor, new plaster, painting, some ceramic tile and a minor repair in my kitchen. I will definitely hire again.

It went well and turned out as I expected.

Fantastic job. I'd hire him again in a second. He was prompt and fast, too. I called him about the job and within 1 week, they were working on it. They worked 4 days straight and finished the job. I was able to reach Marcello daily- he always returned my calls promptly. He stuck to the price he quoted me from the start. Walls are smooth- no bumps or obvious patches, the paint looks great- professional nice lines on the paint job. Marcello's team was extremely clean- leaving no dust or dirt through out the house. They used plastic to cover the kitchen cabinets and appliance and hung plastic to separate their work area from the rest of our house. Every night I could use my kitchen- they removed all of their materials every day and made it neat upon my return home. I highly recommend working with Marcello's Renovations.
