This was the first time I had done business with Keyes and the experience was great. The technician came with just a day's notice. I explained that the A/C kept freezing up and that the company that had been servicing the A/C could not seem to fix the problem. The Keyes's technician found a valve that was not entirely closed, added Freon and checked to be sure the system was no longer leaking. It has been almost a year and the A/C has been working fine since.
Description of Work: Searched for a leak in the A/C; discovered that a valve was not closed; added Freon.

Keyes had no idea what they were doing when they installed the solar system 3 years ago. It has not worked for 3 years and this year- 1/2 of the components started failing. I bought very very high quality materials and failure within 3 years does not make sense. Turns out they installed the piping wrong for my solar panels and they did not install the panels to the optimum angle. At first they brought their engineers and argued with me but after 3 months, they finally agreed and paid someone to help them repipe the system. This was 3 years after it was first installed and I had no idea it was not working. They never checked on the system or asked how it was going. They tried to offer me a maintenance contract for $1,400 / year. This was more than I would have saved in gas bills from the panels and so that made no sense.
Description of Work: Installed 4 solar hot water panels, new high efficiency boiler, new radiant floor heating system.

Response from Keyes North Atlantic
We are sorry that [member name removed] is dissatisfied with the work we performed for her, and that the first we have heard of her criticisms was this posting on Angie's List. In the three years since the system was installed, we have only charged [member name removed] for four minor service calls totaling less than $600. When [member name removed] requested changes to her solar system in the spring of 2013, Keyes North Atlantic made those changes (costing more than $15,000)at no charge to the [member name removed]. While we regret [member name removed] loss of confidence in our firm, we are confident that we have at all times worked diligently to respond to the service needs of the system. We have also provided the most generous possible extension of the one year guarantee and manufacturer's warranty that was part of our original quotation to [member name removed].

Keyes provided seasonal maintenance on air conditioner at beginning of season. On the eve of July 4th, the air conditioner quit. We left a total of 3 messages between the evening of July 3rd and morning of July 5th. On the 4th call, we were told that they were going through their list and would not make any service calls until Monday, July 8. I would have thought that having our unit serviced earlier in the season would have at least warranted a return phone call. In addition, it is 95 degrees. They are in the heating and cooling business. All hands should be on deck. Regardless of holiday/weekend. So much for taking care of your customers.

Two guys, a lead HVAC and an assistant, completed the job in 5 days, wrapping it up in a snowstorm. The supervisor came in at the beginning and end of the job. The workers were polite, cooperative, happy to answer questions, and cleaned up well. I was completely happy with their work. I would do it again , and realized that I was paying more partly for quality (of equipment and personnel), but, also, for a ?security blanket?. I.e., if something went wrong, Keyes would be able to follow through on their commitment; problems would be resolved timely; promises kept. And, there would be someone to answer the phone. The work was done in March. I will update this review at the end of the summer 2013 to let you know how the air conditioning actually performed. Update Sept. 2013: I have had the air conditioner on the entire summer. It has worked efficieintly and quietly, and I have not had any reason to call Keyes to adjust.
Description of Work: I called Keyes after, unsuccessfully, trying to get commitments from two small (and recommended) HVAC owners to install air conditioning in my 1500 sq. foot house. These small companies promised to do the job for 10K, but they were unreachable by phone or by email when it came time to set up a start date. This kind of work can be done during the winter. I wasted months trying to pin the guys down. Then I decided to give up and go with a larger company. Using Angie's List, I found Keyes, with an A recommendation for performance, but a very expensive price tag. That proved to be the case, but I am happy that I went with them, and would suggest that you do too, if you can afford it. I paid 13K for the job . Keyes installed a ducted distribution system in the attic (which covers all rooms in my one level house), with attractive ceiling grills in each room, and two in the larger room. They installed a 36K BTU Luxaire condensing unit and a Luxaire air handler. My house required only one unit outside, and Keyes was able to site it where I requested, on the side of the house.

I found dealing with Keyes to be a pleasure. They are both very professional and their customer service is excellent. There was no sales pressure I found when dealing with other companies. They came to do an estimate and discuss options. Once decisions were made they showed up as scheduled and preformed the work in a timely manner and did an outstanding job. I would certainly recommend them.

Every task has been done well. Keyes has a great reputation for professionalism and quality of service. The word around town is, you can hire someone else for less money, but you probably won't find someone who can do a better job. I'm planning to get some estimates from Keyes for work in other areas of the house: a "smart" thermostat, wiring for AC, TV, and Internet.

They are great to work with, everyone we've worked with are real professionals, customer-oriented, with a consultative approach. The company stands by its work and I trust them. Working with Keyes is a high-quality experience all around. The tradeoff is that they are very expensive. The tradeoff was worth it for me because of the quality, precision, care and customization that they could provide.
Description of Work: Keyes NA has retrofit air conditioning in two homes for me over the past 14 years. Both were lofts where we had to do a lot of upfront design work to figure out what type of system would work best, how to conceal ductwork and make it aesthetically pleasing, load/sizing, concealing and minimizing impacts of outside units, etc. Neither of these were standard AC installations. In the first we used a ductless system (Mitsubishi) and in the more recent, a high velocity system. We also use them for regular service of the AC system.

For a recently purchased house, Keys NA were contacted to: 1) service the home?s three, 11 year old heating systems, 2) install 4 ft. of missing ductwork in an exposed basement, and 3) to fix some detached and missing duct insulation in an exposed basement. In the initial call, they also convinced us to the home's overall systems evaluated. Their evaluator spent 5 hrs pouring over the house, but his report later only suggested spending another $800-$1600 for further design and engineering, and spending tens of thousands of dollars to replace all three systems and all the ductwork. Their service person discovered an issue with the 2nd floor furnace, and never got around to servicing the 3rd attic furnace. The 2nd floor furnace needed a new gas valve and control board. When Keyes N.A.?s pricing for this repair was compared, we found 2 other firms quoting more than a 1/3rd less ($700 less). Keyes wasn't able to improve on their pricing, and we proceeded completing that repair with one of the other firms. Keyes N.A. eventually sent someone to provide the requested 4 ft. of ductwork to connect a bath vent's ducting, but it was connected incorrectly to the return! They did promptly send a different technician to connect to the system?s supply ductwork. In the end, we never had them finish checking our 3rd attic floor system, or our furnace humidifiers, and we had a handyman fix the basement ductwork insulation.

Keyes was great to work with. The price was good. The tech was on time and efficient and polite and informative. The dispatcher at the company was polite and also informative. I'd hire them again, and recommend them to my friends in the area. Here's the whole story if you're interested. Thursday night, I first noticed my central air was blowing warm air, so I went outside and I found the outdoor AC unit fan not spinning. It got stuck before, so I nudged the fan with a twig, and it didn't spin. The next morning, Friday, I did some googling and found that I either need a new fan motor or a new capacitor, but that company wasn't available until early next week.. I searched Angie's List to get an idea of how much the new motor and fan would cost, and I called a local company to get a quote over the phone. After googling, I took a look inside my AC unit. If you do this, make sure you turn off your AC, and set the outdoor AC switch to OFF first! I found my capacitor had burned terminals and the wires going to it looked like the sheathing was melted. So maybe I just need a new capacitor! I called Keyes, and got a price range for the capacitor replacement--it depends on the size of the capacitor. Keyes sent a guy out that same day, a Friday. John, their technician, arrived on time, and examined my AC unit. He had to go to the warehouse because my AC needed a "55" capacitor, which he normally doesn't have in his truck. He came back within 30 minutes and replaced the capacitor. Unfortunately, my AC also needed a new motor. John explained that the motor probably broke, and kept drawing electricity until the wires couldn't handle the load, and burned out the capacitor. I asked if Keyes could call me and tell me the cost of the fan and motor replacement before we do it, and he said no problem. He said I could replace just the fan motor or the fan motor and the blade. He recommended doing both, in case the fan blade was too rusted to separate from the motor. Monday afternoon, Jennifer from Keyes called me. She said Keyes has a flat rate of $475 for the fan motor and blade replacement, or $365 for just the motor. The fan and motor price sounded like a good price to me, compared to other prices on Angie's List and the quote I got from another company. I told her I would be happy to hire them again, and she set me up with their earliest availability, Wednesday morning. John was early! I was thrilled. He got right to work, replaced the fan and motor, and was done so early I could leave for work on time. John also took time to answer any of my questions, which I really appreciated of him. Again, I would be happy to hire Keyes North Atlantic again, and recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: visit 1when: 8/17/12cost: $275work performed: replaced capacitor (the 55 kind), installed new wire terminals, stripped burned parts of wires visit 2when: 8/22/12cost: $475work performed: replaced fan motor and blade.

It was during a five-day heat wave and my central air stopped working! The fan on the unit (outside) was working but only cool (not cold) air was coming out. I called two Angie's List companies on Monday morning--one was booked and the other said they would try to get here in the afternoon. Then I called Keyes North Atlantic...they said they would call as soon as they could get a tech. About 30 minutes later I received a call from Bruce (tech)--he was already at my house--I was surprised and thrilled! He spent about 15 minutes checking out the unit. At first he thought it was the compressor, but after further investigation he discovered a wire terminal was burnt off. He replaced/repaired it--my AC was working again! Bruce was very courteous and I am so impressed with their responsiveness!

Both the inside and outside components needed to be replaced. Brian recommended a York system. He also verified that my vents were fine, but the very old system was leaking terribly. Since it was August, I was anxious to have it done, but I did have to wait 3 weeks. The men worked hard in my very hot attic and outside. When they were done, I did call Brian to come and look at a couple of things that needed to be fixed. He came over and agreed with my complaints and sent a very nice carpenter to change/alter what I indicated. Overall, I think they're a good company, but I agree with a previous reviewer who said that what Brian promises you, may not get translated to the workmen...so, be there while the work is being done.

They are great. They are really good. I haven’t used them in a little while because I had a neighbor over here who is a handyman and I used him. The neighbor did electrical and plumbing. So, I haven’t used Keyes North Atlantic lately and that’s not because they aren’t great. They did everything right. I thought that the price was good. I was kind of ripped off by somebody else before. Keyes North Atlantic did a bunch of things a while back. They are very professional. If somebody is looking for a company, then I would definitely recommend Keyes North Atlantic. I have no complaints and I thought they did a really nice job. They were really good with their responsiveness and punctuality. I would consider using them in the future.

Keyes was able to solve a few tricky HVAC issues that no one else had been able to address. They were quickly able to diagnose a broken gas valve, and were quite collaborative in designing a solution to a noisy return air. It took awhile to get everything scheduled, but this wasn't a rush job - on site, the work was top notch. Would definitely return to Keyes for additional service in the future -
