After trying several ways to repair old furnace we had to replace. Took longer than expected to get on their schedule so we went without heat for ten days. However, once the equipment came in, they worked long hours for two full days to install and get it done. Their prices range slightly higher than some, but their service and knowledgeable workers are very good and so I’ve stuck with this company for years.

Not well. This used to be a great company but a year after install something must happened to them. They can't seem to keep an appointment, say they have called you when they haven't. They have techs who misdiagnose problems and almost end up costing you a fortune. We have given them too many chances for service recovery. I never diss a company like this, ever, but this time they have earned it.

Quoted an exorbitant amount for very simple jobs. Using their first 30 min rate of $135 and $90 per hour thereafter the quotes were as follows: Installing four recessed lights: $1,350. Even using $135 per 30 minutes the estimated time would take ~5 hours. At a $90/hr rate, it would take 7.5 hours. Insulation contact rated light costs absolutely do not explain that crazy cost either. Two LED strip lights. $1,125. FOR A BASEMENT? Maybe one LED light could cost as much as $100 so $200 for two. But using their rates, even when subtracting $200, it would take five to seven hours to put in two LED strip lights? I could do this in less than two and a trained electrician would take two to three times as long? Removing two ~3 foot long electric baseboard heaters and one box heater. $475, That would equate to roughly two to three hours of work by their rates. Still too long IMHO, but not as crazy as the recessed light or basement light quote. Installing three outdoor receptacles. $1,275. Maybe if they were putting in new conduit, but they were using existing boxes and wiring. Roughly 5 to 7 hours using their rates. Crazy. The pricing used to be reasonable and the work was done in one visit. Perhaps the quotation visits are part of the reason the pricing is so untenable. It certainly was a complete waste of my time as I had to wait for the "quote visit" and then wait a few days after the "quote visit" to receive this estimate.

Technicians were professional and knew their trade. They explained everything and provided a complete service, adjusting the boiler's air/gas ratio to ensure minimal amount of CO was bring produced. The issue I have with this company is the total lack of transparency on pricing and billing. I paid at least 2x of what anyone would have charged. they spent like 45 min at my home and charged me for 1.5 h labor and the part was marked up by at least 5 times. Felt like I was mugged. The way this company behaved is the classical example of a penny-wise, pound foolish mindset. To anyone wanting to work with this company, find 5 quotes from others first and use this company as a last resort.

Mr. [Member Name Removed] thank you for your review and your feedback we greatly appreciate it. We charge an industry standard service and travel fee of $155.00 for travel and diagnostics for all of our service calls. After determining your equipment had a failed ignition component we replaced it. We use flat rate pricing and do not typically break apart our labor and materials, we find this is more straightforward when we make repairs. In addition, your boiler was not firing safely and the combustion readings were quite off. We spent time adjusting the gas pressure and oxygen mixture to ensure your boiler was safely operating within it's parameters. We also checked your living space for carbon monoxide as we always do to ensure the safety of our clients. Please note we did not charge for the combustion adjustments or readings as a courtesy. We understand your concerns with the billing amount, but we feel it is well within industry standards for our qualified and trained technicians. We hope you would consider using us in the future.

I have used Keyes for all my heating, air conditioning, electrical and alarm work since I moved into my Newton home 18 years ago. They are a fantastic service provider. Can't comment on pricing since Ive been so pleased with all their work over the years that Ive never gotten a second price quote on the work theyve done. The very first time I used them was in the summer of 1998 when my AC stopped working in the middle of a huge heat spell. Although I hadn't been a customer until then, since my systems were all new, they sent someone out promptly who repaired the problem. That sold me & I have been a loyal customer since then.

All the details are above. I will stay with Keyes for annual maintenance. But only future events will tell me whether they are able to provide reasonably prompt service when equipment breaks. They are a very competent outfit; I just hope that they can staff up, and are able to service "unplanned" breakdowns. If I were a big customer, with many of their systems, I would probably get better service.
Description of Work: Keyes provides me with annual maintenance of a high-end central air conditioning system which they installed in my home 30 months ago. The A/C stopped working on a Saturday. I called Keyes emergency service and had several phone calls with the technician. He was unable to commit to coming out either Saturday or Sunday; it would all depend on how many higher priority emergency calls came in that weekend. Moreover the technician told me that even if I called the office on Monday, at normal business hours, I might still have to wait up to a week for the initial service call. With that informatiioon, I then went to Angie's List, and selected an HVAC company specializing in residential emergencies. I went with them. I wrote a lengthy email to the Keyes Sales Manager, and I did receive a visit from a sales manager. He told me that they are short on technicians, and that, when fully staffed, I should be assured of prompt service. I decided to stay with Keyes for maintenance, as they did install the system, and they have competent staff. However, only the future will assure me whether they are able to provide reasonable service time on breakdown of equipment.

First, the good: The designer was very responsive to my needs. We worked together to get a proposal put together for exactly what I wanted. And in the end what I had was exactly what I wanted for exactly the price quoted. The finished result looks great and functions as expected. What I had done: I've got an electric car coming in a few months, and I wanted the charge port installed during the summer months. We had some back and forth by email about exactly how to install this circuit. There were some complications because our standby generator, intended to power the whole house, isn't rated for the whole house plus the new car. There's another big positive here, though First, Keyes did the leg work to figure out whether generator overload would be a problem or not (unprompted). Second, they proposed an initial solution (disable the car charger circuit any time the generator is running) but also did the leg work to figure out whether our generator installer could do something better (disable the car charger circuit only when the generator is overloaded). They could have made more money here on an inferior solution. Instead they recommended that I have the generator company install the better solution after Keyes finished their work. Bravo for that. Unfortunately, this took more visits (5) than either I expected or the estimator expected. On day 1, they pulled the data lines (incorrectly) and fished the high voltage line under the breezeway. One day 2, they ran the inside wiring to the breaker box and wired it up. On day 3, the did the in-garage PVC work. Each of these were full days. A partial day 4 was spent fixing the data terminations, and day 5 was the inspector. It wouldn't be a problem that it took 5 visits, except I felt I need to be there to supervise the work, so I worked from home on 4 of those 5 days. I would have been fine with 2 work from home days. Part of the problem here was an estimating problem, but the bulk of it was a logistical/supplier problem. Day one had a problem with the conductor they brought out (the jacket was cut). On the bright side, they didn't just install dangerous product. But getting replacement conductor slowed them down. Instead they ran the data lines that day. But none of the 4 circuits were properly terminated, which meant a later followup day. When they finally fixed up the data lines, they used my test equipment to verify the lines, because theirs was 75% broken (with 4 terminating test pieces, 3 of the 4 were known by the technician not to work). The test equipment in question costs $120. They use pretty much the same tool I do, it's just that they have to run back and forth for every line they check. Another stall happened when it was time to install PVC conduit in the garage. The corner pieces were just never ordered for the job. It took the better part of 45 minutes just to figure this out. Ground to a halt by pieces that cost, what, around a dollar? This time they sent a runner for the part, but it held up the work for a few hours. These mis-steps on the logistic and execution side made the job take longer, but the job was eventually completed as requested and expected. I'm happy with the end result.
Description of Work: Installed a NEMA 14-50 charging port for an electric car, pulled a second circuit in anticipation of a second electric car. Pulled and terminated 4 ethernet ports into the garage.

After a long search for a company experienced and qualified to service our hot water heater and radiant heating system, we found Keyes North Atlantic. Since then Jimmy has been out three times and his colleague once. Each visit has seen a swift remedy to the problem, and although the cost is expensive, I have never felt that Jimmy nor his colleagues in the Keyes office are inflating prices or overcharging. I am very happy knowing that if/when a problem does arise, Keyes North Atlantic will fix it. I enthusiastically recommend this company.

They show up on time. They are pleasant. They have a great value for service done. Keyes North Atlantic absolutely sets the standard for a homeowner and contractor relationship. I call their office with a problem, they set a reasonable date for an appointment, and then upon arrival they spend a reasonable amount of time assessing the issue. If the potential cost threshold to resolve the issue might be a concern, they communicate a fair and accurate estimate. Otherwise they fix the issue and bill you a reasonable rate and don't take advantage of any homeowner naiveté regarding any work that needs to be done. I appreciate their diligence in this regard and believe they will continue to do such good work in the future upon my need for their services.

Sales manager was very good about getting emails back. But the guy who was assigned to me didn't even bother to show up to the appointment we setup and confirmed. Not only did I waste my broker's time, but also person still living in the house (we are couple weeks away from the close) was inconvenienced. Excuse: "oh I did not enter the appointment in my calendar". Unprofessional, consider that is like your primary job - get to appointments on time and sell on timeliness and great service. No thanks. Will take my business somewhere else.

Good morning, Mr. [member name removed]. I apologize for your negative experience with our organization. It is always a top priority for our staff to be prompt with appointments and we did not deliver that to you in this instance. This is my second review of Keyes...the first one was positive; this one is not. My gas heater stopped working and I called Keyes. They said they would try to get a technician here that afternoon (no one showed up). The next morning they called and said someone would be here in the afternoon. By the time they arrived the heater started working; the tech wasn't able to determine the problem. He said to call them back if it stopped working again. Sure enough a couple weeks later the heat stopped working and I called Keyes again. I asked if I could get a discount on the follow-up service call since the heating system was not repaired the first time. (I received a bill for a full hour of work from the first visit.) The operator said he would have his manager call me back. No one never called back! Even if they wouldn't give me a discount, they should have been responsible enough to return my call as promised, especially for a repeat customer. There are plenty of providers who are professional and appreciate loyal customers--Keyes is not one of them.

I've been using Keyes for years to service and do annual maintenance my AC. They also installed it approximate 12 years ago. I would highly recommend them. They have always been extremely responsive. They are not the cheapest around; in fact usually quite pricey, but you get what you pay for. I trust the work that they do.
