As it turned out, the problem had something to do with fixing the mechanism that controls the two cooling zones in our house. This company is very reliable. They came when they said they would. I was very impressed with the people who answer the phones there. They got back to me immediately and were excellent at accommodating to my schedule.
Description of Work: They repaired our air conditioner which wasn't cooling properly. The job took about an hour. I have a four bedroom, two and a half bathroom home.

The technician arrived a bit after 8 & started the A/C inspection. He found we had very little coolant in the A/C & suspected a leak. I couldn't stay for him to find it, so he left recommending that I make another appointment. I called & made one for a few days later. The same technician came which probably saved time since he already knew the problem and had narrowed down where the leak was. This time he found it, fixed it, and left with the A/C in working order. There was a bit of confusion about the bill. Keyes contacted me about this and fixed it without me having to do anything.
Description of Work: We made an appointment for an A/C tune-up since it didn't seem to be cooling the house well. The technician found a leak in the coolant line that needed fixing. We made a follow-up appointment since our work schedule didn't allow us to have it fixed that day. He returned a few days later, fixed the leak, flushed & refilled the system, & the A/C has worked fine since.

Setting up the inspection was very easy, and the person I spoke to seemed knowledgeable and professional. The technician showed up more or less on time, and was very efficient and professional. I wanted to watch what he was doing to learn more about how the system works, and he was OK with that and very pleasant throughout. He inspected and cleaned the boiler and determined that I needed 2 new valves (including a pressure-relief valve) and a new expansion tank. I called the office to schedule the work for the following week, and was given a quote (guaranteed) of $675 - I was told the work would take 4-5 hours. I wasn't there when the technician arrived for the work (my father-in-law let him in and showed him the boiler), but by all accounts he showed up on time and everything went well. Overall I was very happy with my experience, except I found the price for the follow-up work high considering the amount of time it actually took him to complete it, which was only 3 1/2 hours.
Description of Work: First called for a boiler inspection - the technician performed the inspection and determined that I needed a new expansion tank and 2 new valves, which required draining the system. They came back to perform the work the following week.

Mike came out and gave me an estimate for both putting a return vent on just the first floor and also an estimate for putting vents on both floors. He was very thorough and offered me advice on where the best places would be to put the vents.

The estimate and evaluation was very thorough and the two-man crew was very professional. They tried a number of troubleshooting procedures before declaring the A/C DOA. They didn't try to up-sell me on the repairs and asked me if I wanted a salesman to come out and give me an estimate on the A/C. They were not pushy at all. After the investigation they found that they didn't have the necessary part and scheduled an appointment for the following Monday to come back and install the part. A different tech came back and installed the part. He was very quick and professional and waited around for another half hour to make sure that the furnace stayed on and that the hot water was coming through correctly. Overall a very pleasant experience (besides the A/C being out and costing us a fortune in the near future).
Description of Work: Came out to give us estimates for repairs to an air conditioning unit and a furnace. They discovered that the A/C needed to be replaced and that the furnace needed a new controller. Another rep came back to install the part and make sure the furnace was working.

I wanted to get a quote for installation of a central a/c system in our home. I waited 4 days for a return call from their salesperson. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take the call when it came in which was a Friday, so I waited until the following Tuesday to call him back since it was a holiday weekend. He never called back, so I left another message with the person answering the phones. He finally called and we set up a time for his visit, he never showed up. Basically it took me 2 wasted weeks to set up an appointment and get stood up. I didn't even get a phone call with an apology or to set up a new time. I'm very disappointed this happened especially since this company got such good reviews. At this point I wouldn't even consider using them even if they did call back. They can't even use the excuse that they're very busy. I received several quotes from other reputable companies, which I found on Angie's List and they all stated that this time of year is their slowest.

We selected Keys North. They sent a detail proposal and came in at the scheduled time and completed job per proposal. We asked if we needed to change the overflow plastic pan. The third company had suggested that saying plastic is not good and we did not have a float. Keys North disagreed and showed me the float and said metal pans rust and plastic pans are better. Saving us $350.00. So we are happy with Keys North's work and honesty.
Description of Work: The central air conditioner was not cooling in the upper floor. The system is only 8 years old. There was some amount of confusion whether the outside unit should be replaced or just the compressor needed to be replaced. We ended up asking three different companies to come and look at the problem. The first company's tech said only the compressor needs to be replaced but his company would not do that job. They would insist on replacing the whole outside unit for around $4k. But, he personally would replace only the compressor for around $1,500. Keys North was the second company and they said more or less the same thing except the company would replace either the compressor or the whole unit. They recommended to replace only the compressor because A/C regulations are changing regarding use of Freon and in next few years more things will change. The third company took a long time to figure out that the compressor was bad and suggested that the whole unit should be replaced for over $4k.

Description of Work: Rick T. from Keyes finally came out after 2 calls to get an appointment. Rick was on time and asked good questions and seemed to know what work was needed. Two week later, we still did not have an estimate. I emailed and then finally called and then we got an estimate to replace a fuel oil with natural gas for our boiler ($8895). Rick also gave us an estimate to replace the current fuel oil unit - felt both estimates were high.

The Job went just as Rick described. He gave us a start date and time. Rick, the installers, Jim and Dave, and the equipment arrived as scheduled. Jim and Dave were knowledgeable, hard-working, efficient, pleasant and neat. They kept us informed of any difficulties as the job progressed and how they planned to resolve them. When the job was completed everything was working and they left the house neat and clean. I'm glad we went with this company. We are extremely satisfied.
Description of Work: Keyes North Atlantic sent out Rick Tropeano to evaluate and make recommendations about our existing central air conditioning system. We decided to go with a complete new installation because of the age and condition or our equipment and the energy efficiency of the new equipment. It took the two installers, Jim and Dave, 6 days to complete the work. They replaced 3 condensing units and air handlers and some refrigerant piping and ductwork. We are very pleased with the quality of the new equipment and the installation.

The service was top notch. Gregg was professional, informative, and performed his job with skill. After inspecting and running some tests on the unit in the attic, Gregg recommended the installation of the float switch. I asked him why and he explained the switch's function without any pressure to have the work done; however, it was a safety feature which I'm surprised was not installed when the system was put in. It was a no brainer to have the switch installed. He replaced the air filter on the intake vent, after the switch was installed. Then he worked on the unit outside. Once this was done, he ran some more tests to measure the improvement and it was significant. I don't think anything has been done in several years. It's been a couple of weeks with a few muggy days and the system has been up to the challenge. I am very happy with the work and would recommend Keyes without hesitation.
Description of Work: Central air seasonal maintenance and cleaning. Work included servicing motors, cleaning coils and fan belt replacement. Air filter was also replaced. Supplied and installed a float switch to existing air handler unit.

The main job was to service the system, which they did a thorough job with. In addition, we needed help pinpointing areas where the builders could assist with the AC and made practical recommendations on how best to add more cold air to the new rooms.

The electrical work went extremely well. The personnel from Keyes were friendly, professional, and careful to explain the work that was being completed. Since they were working in a house built in the 1920's, there were some areas that were difficult to access where new wiring was installed, or wiring replaced. The personnel from Keyes carefully assessed how they would access the difficult areas, and always let me know how the wiring would be installed in those areas. During the installation, if they found wiring that was out of code, they always asked my permission before proceeding with updates, and explained how the updates would be installed. Keyes also made excellent suggestions for installing antique ceiling fixtures that I provided, and ensured that all work completed met my expectations.
Description of Work: I hired Keyes North Atlantic to update wiring and install additional wiring for my new house. During the estimate, Wayne Wedekind carefully reviewed all the rooms, asked my how each room would be used, and made recommendations for wiring, installing receptacles, fixtures, and electric baseboard heaters, based on how each room would be used. Although the original estimate was a bit higher than I expected, I knew Keyes reputation for excellence.

They were punctual and very affordable. They were here all day and did a lot of work, so I thought the price was very reasonable. They were courteous and polite. I also thought they were very experienced and that they knew what they were doing.
Description of Work: Our gas furnace was not working properly, so they replaced the burner. They also had to redo the piping for the heating system because they were running too low to the ground, which was considered a hazard. They had to reduce the number of elbows in the piping.

We were overall pleased with the service. I wanted a quote in two different ways. One way with the chimney and one with a vent outside. I only received the one for the chimney. I think there were a few mistakes with the estimate, but they were generally good and I think the customer service was lovely.

After realizing I should have an electrician replace the light I called a first company to do the job. They never called me back, so I subscribed to Angie's list for help. I called Keyes on Monday morning. They happened to have a cancellation Tuesday morning and sent someone out. He showed up promptly and got the job done in about 2 hours.
Description of Work: I needed a new kitchen ceiling light (one with a pull cord). I had already removed the old one but the wires were so old that I decided to have an electrician put up the new one. He ended up replacing a wire box and putting in new wire. It took about 2 hours and the light is now up and working.

We are renovating our entire house and had this group come out for estimates on electrical and HVAC. Both areas were covered by different people of the company. Fortunately for us, we interviewed multiple companies for the work because in both areas Keyes estimated over 2x the amount that others were quoting for the same exact work! They are looking to swindle anyone who isn't savvy enough to get multiple estimates for work. We never used them but thought that people should be careful with them.

The dispatch was very prompt to return my e-mail & schedule an appointment. The gentleman that came was on time & very friendly. He was very thorough in his examination, quickly identified the problem, & fixed it. I thought the price was very fair for the work he performed. The service was thorough, professional, timely, excellent! The work was performed the same day I called (lucky for me since the temperature outside was 16 degrees, and the house was getting cold). The person who helped me on the phone was very pleasant and upfront with anticipated costs and scheduling. The technician sent out to my home arrived only two hours after my call, diagnosed the problem in about 20 minutes (it was an obscure one that I certainly hadn't thought of), then popped out to his truck for the part. It was installed in about 30 minutes. The cost of the repair matched the estimate I received on the phone. The fee and estimate was, by the way, nearly $300 less than a competitor.

Fine. $125 for a service seems steep though (less than one hour). They needed access to my building's roof, which I didn't have. Fortunately I was able to get someone to come over promptly to open the door, but if they could have warned me about that it would have been better.

Response was prompt for all service calls. All service technicians were polite, explained the work. All commented on the furnace age, but no pressure was applied to purchase a replacement. When the system was damaged in annual service, the technician was embarrassed and apologetic; additional techs were sent the same day to replace the gas valve and thermostat. The replacement thermostat was similar to, but less expensive than, what we had; we did not complain. After service on 1/23, furnace sounded like it exploded when starting. Response within 90 minutes for adjustment. Four separate technicians adjusted the gas flow, each somewhat differently. Last technician (Abdul) made adjustments so that there was no pop on start-up, furnace now running very well. So Keyes is very responsive, fixes their own mistakes readily, but it was distressing that the furnace behaved differently after each adjustment.
Description of Work: 9/22/06 - Annual service plus follow-up. Cleaned and adjusted furnace. Found need to replace the fan limit switch, replaced it, but inadvertently damaged 24-volt system including the gas valve and the thermostat. Replaced both gas valve and thermostat. 10/14 - Follow-up call needed to adjust gas control for excessive "pop" on starting. 1/23/07 - called for service because pilot lamp had gone out three times. Pilot lamp thermocouple replaced, gas valve adjusted. Follow-up call needed (same day) for excessive "pop" on start-up. Found gas valve could not be adjusted properly. 1/25/07 - Gas valve replaced again, exhaust pipe (connection to chimney) modified for better draft.
