UNIVERSAL HARDWOOD FLOORING

These guys are amazingly attentive - they really care about how it looks and doing the job right. They clearly knew what they were doing and had years of experience. I was truly impressed.

They showed up when they said they would, did the work as asked. The work was done over 3 days because the poly needed to dry between coats. The result was quality refinished hardwood for a very fair price. They also left work area and related areas clean on leaving each day

Mike was great! He was incredibly responsive and started the job less than a week after our initial phone call. He and his team were courteous, punctual, and competent. We were trying to match the stain to existing flooring and Mike gave us lots of pointers. Our floors look beautiful and the job was done quickly and efficiently. We would definitely work with this company again!

It went great. Universal Hardwood Flooring did an amazing job. Not only were we impressed with the final product, their attention to detail and care they took was extremely comforting. We were advised to complete our floor prior to the toe kicks being installed in our new kitchen. It made a huge difference.

It went well! Mike was very responsive and helpful. He answered all our questions, and even helped move 2 pieces of furniture (1 a piano!) that were beyond our abilities. I cannot tell you how impressed I was. There was a ceiling fixture -- the glass covering -- that during the sanding process somehow fell off and smashed . Mike cleaned it up, took responsibility for the situation, and we were easily able to agree on a solution. I was happy with the result.

The floors look great, wish we'd done years ago. We went with the Bona satin with the amberseal which gave a more modern but still warm tone to the floor so that it would more closely match to other rooms that we did not refinish (for now). Mike we'll be calling you back when we're ready for those and thanks again!

Mike was excellent to work with. He was prompt in his communication, reasonable with his pricing, and he delivered on what was promised. His pricing was even in the middle of the other quotes we received. We are very happy with the results and his crew even did a little more than expected. In refinishing the stairs, they also cleaned up the woodwork on either side of the stair treads.

I left a message, and Mike Tran quickly called me back. His workload was about 1 week out, which worked for me. He came over the next day to review the interior and provide a quote. He emailed me the quote which ended up matching up to the final invoice. The work took about a week, and the result was great. The floor installation was tightly done, and the white oak used looks beautiful. The refinishing and the installation left no dust. I'm very happy, and would recommend using Universal Hardwood.

It went great. Mike explained the steps of the process to us and also took a little extra care with sealing off the rest of the home and with fixing some spots where there was damage to the subfloor. He actually finished the floor while we were away on vacation, if that's any indication of our trust level. I doubt that we'll need new flooring work any time soon, but we would certainly call Mike again if we did.

My wife and I recently purchased an old home that requires quite a bit of work. Mike came, looked at the floor under our carpets on the second floor, and gave us a quote for refinishing. He and his crew came and did what they said they would do. The dust was well controlled, and they were a pleasure to work with. We intend to use them again to install new flooring in the kitchen later.

He noted the scuffing on the poly layer and said he would make sure to buff it out. He cleaned the floor well after he buffed it and coated in poly. The next day I noticed that the poly was drying with streaks in it in some areas. I took photos of this problem and emailed them to Mike. He came back one day later and saw the streaks. He said the streaks were sanding marks from the prior contractor refinishing of the floor showing through the layer of poly he put on. He agreed to add another coat of poly without additional charge. He buffed the floor lightly before adding a second coat of poly to make sure it would stick. The next day the recoated floor looked amazing! Mike Tran has integrity. I have experienced other contractors who have not responded when there is a problem. I would hire him again because of his professionalism and integrity.

Mike Tran was easy to work with and professional. We did discover some issues after he completed the job (obvious scratches that resulted from floors that were more damaged than originally expected). Mike was very responsive to our concerns and worked with us to resolve them. We are happy with the final outcome.

Mike was very professional and a nice guy. overall the price was a little steep but they did a good job and were very punctual, polite and responsive right from the first inquiry. The job went quickly first thing in the morning over 3 days with no issues. It came out great. The only reason for the B grade was that there are some mild sanding issues in out of the way spots and some of the areas could have used some fill or cover for white paint that was deep in the grooves. Fix all that and you get an A.

Did a great job. The floors glisten. Came on time. Sanded and finished. Very accommodating. The price was more than reasionable.

Mike Tran and his worker sanded our hardwood floors this spring. We could not have been more pleased with the results. Mike and his crew came when they said they would ,prepared the areas around the floors with plastic and worked diligently with the sanding and polyurethane of the floors. They were professional and a fair price . I would recommend him for your floors.

Mike and his crew did a fantastic job. Our floors look new and the level of stain is to our desire. This work was performed in the dead of winter and they did their best to finish the job even when part of our roof started leaking due to an ice dam. Very professional and pleasant to work with.

Michael and his crew were very professional, arrived when they said they would, and covered up all surfaces to protect them from the inevitable dust that collects with the sanding process. They went above and beyond in patching the floor so it would look good. We are very pleased with the result.

This is the third time we have used Universal Hardwood for floor work. The first time we had the floors in most of our 80 year old home repaired, sanded and refinished. We were very impressed with the work that was done and when we had additional work, we called Universal. Our second job done by Mike and his guys had them install a new cherry floor in a kitchen renovation, stain the floor and finish coat it. We also had the rest of the house not refinished previously completed. The new kitchen floor made our old house look contemporary. A great job! This summer we had a smaller garden condo in Brookline in need of some floor work. Three years ago we had Universal out to estimate the job and they were honest enough to tell us it didn't quite need it yet. In July, Mike came out to look at the job within a day of my call. He agreed it was time to refinish the floor. Within a week the floor was complete. Although he warned us some of the staining might not come up, the whole floor looked beautiful. And to our surprise an excellent job was done on the clean up as well. Should we have another floor job to be done, Universal will be our first and only call.

This is actually the second time I have hired Mike Tran and his company. The first time was to refinish hardwood floors in my old condo in Brookline, and he did an excellent job. Therefore, I didn't even put this out for bids, I called Mike and we scheduled a visit. I didn't know exactly what I wanted (prefinished or non-prefinished, what kind of wood, etc), so it was good to have Mike's advice (go with the prefinished). I also trusted him to match the wood, and he did a great job with that. We went with a red oak. The rooms look fantastic. I think it was a quality install. One of the rooms had some really tight spaces, too, and things look just as good there. I thought the price Mike quoted me was very reasonable. We were also on a very tight timeline, and Mike was able to fit it in and get the work finished before he had even anticipated. He ordered the wood on Thursday (the day of the closing), delivered in on Friday to let it sit in the house over the weekend, and then installed over a day and a half. My only regret is that I would have planned things better so there would have been time for them to refinish some of the other floors in the house, but I had too much going on. But when that does happen, I'll be giving Mike a call.

We had a great experience with Mike and his team. It was a tricky job cause our house is really old and we were trying to match new wood up with existing wood already laid. We chose prefinished cause we have baby and didn't want fumes. Mike helped us in choosing the right wood and even help coordinate delivery. He and his team arrived early and stayed late. I was really impressed by their hard work and attention to detail. Mike was uber responsive and communicates well. I would totally recommend Mike!!!

I was very pleased with the services received. What was especially helpful was Mike's responsiveness in both scheduling an estimate and then performing the work in coordination with our painter. Mike literally returned calls within 5-10 minutes and fit us in to minimize the "down time" to the bedroom before we could move back in. The works was done on days and times exactly as Mike committed to. He was bankable...no surprises. This was hugely helpful. The quality of the work appears to be very good/excellent. Mike and crew were careful to lay down tarps on rugs and to avoid tracking up my rugs as they brought in sanders and other supplies. They were very neat. Even dustless sanding leaves some minor clean-up, but this was minimal and easy to deal with. You do get some odor from the varnish/stain, but this goes away quickly.

Very nice, did it fast. It was finish within a week.

We are very please with our refinished hardwood floors. They were very easy to work with and did a great job.

The job went extremely well. Mike from Universal provided an estimate over the phone based on the approximate square footage and my description of the condition of the floor. He scheduled the work within a week - seemed like he might have done some shuffling of his schedule to fit me in as I needed it done quickly. He came when he was supposed to come and did an excellent job on the floors.

Everything went well. He had to sand off a painted rug put on by a previous owner - It has disappeared! The poly had worn off in the kitchen area, and it now looks wonderful.
