Mike was fantastic. Very thorough and friendly. He was very helpful in explaining how all of the systems in the condo worked and at the end of it he gave me a book explaining the basics of all the systems you might find in a house! Needless to say he went above and beyond my expectations.

Mike is a true professional, I would never purchase a home without Mike inspecting it first. He is very thorough and does not miss anything. I truly value his option and recommendations.

Hands down he is one of the best people in this business that I have EVER met. He helped my boyfriend diagnose a problem by phone and photo, which resulted in an excellent repair at half the cost he was originally going to pay. He has done so many other amazingly smart things for my home repair efforts that I'd have to get out my log book to remember them all. I trust MIke 110% -- and he has got to be one of the nicest people I know.

Mike was on time, very thorough, explained what he found. He is friendly, knowledgeable and a detailed worker. Every part of the house was competently inspected.

For reasons I won't go into, we ended up having to conduct a home inspection on a very tight schedule. I called dozens of inspectors and most were already booked. Mike just happened to have an opening because a new home he was supposed to inspect that day was not yet ready for inspection. So we went into the inspection thinking we had lucked out. Our experience working with Mike made us realize how good our luck was! Mike was extremely thorough and walked us through every aspect of the home. He discovered several issues that had not been raised at all in a prior inspection (by other prospective buyers). We would completely recommend Mike and J. May, they were great and well worth the money!

First rate experience from start to finish. The inspector was very thorough and knowledgeable. He wrote up a detailed report promptly and was very responsive to follow-up questions.

Called Mike to see if he could do a same day inspection on a property we wanted to put an offer down on. Mike was not available but was eager to help and quickly provided me with a list of names and numbers of other inspectors I could try. Was about to give up on the inspection before calling Mike. With Mike's help I was able to find someone to do an inspection the same morning to help us in the offer process!

I can't say enough good things about Mike and J. May Home Inspections. Mike is incredibly personable and knowledgeably. He saved my family much time, money and headaches by providing us with clear, sincere and timely, information regarding three separate homes we were thinking of purchasing. We also were educated on how most home systems work and I feel a lot more prepared to manage my new home's maintenance.I feel truly blessed to have had Mike's help in our home buying journey.

Mike was excellent. Very thorough and professional. I arrived early at the home to be inspected and he was already there working on the outside inspection. He was helpful in providing his opinion on what was a potentially big issue and what was minor or easily fixed. He alerted us to the possibility of an underground oil tank and then helped us go about figuring out who to contact to ascertain whether there was one. Based on his report, we went back to the seller and asked them to pay to fix one issue. Mike was helpful in providing details and photos of the problem. All around a great experience. We would definitely use him again (though hopefully we are in this house for a long time)!

Mike was extremely professional and knowledgeable and did a very thorough inspection. He explained everything right and wrong about the house in every room and the exterior. The report provided after the inspection was also extremely thorough. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a thorough inspection.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE PROVIDER I have debated whether or not to provide a review for this company for quite a while. I feel bad to leave such a negative review but the services were so poor I felt it was important to warn others. The inspector missed so many things it is impossible to list them all but I will provide a list of some of the items he should have noticed. -A week after moving into the home I had water pouring down the side of my entryway and dining room. This had obviously happened previously as the wood moldings showed clear signs of water damage and warping. -I noticed marks on the floor in the basement and asked him what those were. He said he did not know and made it seem as though it was nothing much. Upon moving in I came to find out they were mouse footprints and all of the insulation in the basement was full of droppings. In the attic I then found huge piles of mouse droppings in plain view. -Other obvious signs of water damage were not listed or pointed out. This would include a closet which had been obviously repaired as the plaster did not match consistently throughout the walls, the ceiling in the garage had a portion that was redone due to water damage and I had mold in the wine cellar from water damage. -The hard wired fire alarms had a date for replacement of 2005!!!! I found out when they started going off incessantly. -The chimney had a giant hole in the flashing that allowed water to poor straight down the mantle. I have found out about all this as each of these issues have occurred again. The seller never fixed the cause of the issue and had only fixed the damage caused by the water. As a result of the problems not being fixed the house has had over $40,000 worth of damage to it. I can't wait to find out what else he missed. Thank god for insurance! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE PROVIDER!!!

Mike Atwell did a great job on the inspection of the home. He was very responsive to my initial calls to schedule the appointment. He showed up early for the job. Took his time and meticulously inspect the house in detail. He was very open to questions and took the time to walk us through his findings and explained potential remediation options. Mike was able to accommodate and send us the summary report prior to the official one so we can bring in contractors for estimates. The final report was a little bit hard to follow as part of it was hand written. It would have benefited if he had included pictures that he took during the inspection.

Mr. Atwell carried out a home inspection of a house I was interested in purchasing. He arrived punctually, carried out the inspection, pleasantly and clearly explained his findings about the house and gave appropriate advice. Soon after (1-2 days), he sent me a detailed report which could have been more concise but that nonetheless was helpful and complete. I also had the house examined by a very experienced licensed professional engineer and ended up with a very good idea of the state of the house. In the areas that are covered by the level of inspection offered by Mr. Atwell, he performed very well and indeed pointed out one issue that escaped the engineer.

Incredibly thorough and knowledgeable. Found all kinds of interesting thing in the house. ( upsetting for us, but means he is doing a great job) Very helpful in identifying how urgent each repair is/was.

Husband and I felt we were in the best of hands with Michael. He arrived at the job early, was remarkably thorough and careful, explained things clearly (and patiently), and demonstrated a deep knowledge of his trade. This and he was just a pleasure to be around throughout. I would recommend him and everyone.

This is the second time that Mike inspects a house for me. Mike does a thorough home inspection that takes 4 hours. Not only he points to items that needs to be fixed but he gives an education and suggestion to improve the house. His report is detailed and I will use it for future improvements projects. Mike is very responsive with questions about the house or if I needed referrals for repairs.

Mike from J May was excellent. He was there early to get a head start on inspecting the outside of the house. He thoroughly inspected each area on his own prior to showing us and explaining what he found. He is very thorough, with both the actual inspection and the inspection report. We were able to re-negotiate the purchase price of the home based on his inspection report. He is very pleasant and easy to work with, and very patient at explaining everything. It was a nice perk to receive the "How to Operate your Home" book at the end of the inspection, which I expect to get much use out of as we embark on living and maintaining our first house.

Mike was great! Our day was to start at 9am - but he arrived 15 minutes early to start the day and to take a look around the outside of the home. He spent 4+ hours total on our home inspection!! I loved that he only schedules 1 home inspection per day - nothing felt rushed since he had no other appointment to get to. He also was very open to questions and answered each thoroughly. We received an email copy of the inspection report the next day! It was very thorough in explaining minor/major updates needed and listed suggestions for home maintenance (really appreciated!) We would definitely recommend Mike !!

I have not even received the report yet, but Mike was unbelievable. This was the most thorough home inspection I could have ever asked for. Mike was at the house for over 4 hours, was very detail oriented and explained everything to my wife and I. The inspection was an education and worth every penny.

I hired Mike for a home inspection because I had used his services back in July (I reviewed him then as well). I work very hard for a living, but this guy is over the top (no wonder he's the President of the MA Home Inspectors). He spent over four hours at a house with me last week inspecting most everything in and around it. He uncovered some irrefutable facts about the house (that in some cases, contradicted the listing broker and sellers). It led to some significant reductions in the home price before we got to the P&S. If he had not been so thorough, I would have paid too much for the house and been sick over the additional out of pocket expenses. I cannot overstate how good Mike is and how credible his reports are. He's a little more money than most inspectors, but he is MORE than worth it. By the way, I walked away from the first house Mike inspected for me...major problems that had not been disclosed by the sellers. So if you want to have your eyes wide open to make sure you know what you're buying, hire him.

Mike was early. I was late. he was off and running by time. I arrived. very nice ,knowledgeable and clear. Explained everything extremely thoroughly. Identified major issue that lead us to walk away from condo .
