Erwin was promt and did a complete cleaning. He is very well skillled and offered some good suggestions about the use of our particular fireplace.

Very prompt, knowledgable and skilled. In addition to the work I initially asked him to to do, Erwin found a major problem which could have let flames behind the wall and caused a serious fire. Erwin knows and loves old houses and gave several useful tips on how to improve efficiency of fireplace and reduce smoke.

We last had our chimney cleaned in 2006, and though we don't use the chimney very much, a cleaning was long overdue. The last time we had the chimney cleaned the company involved told us that our chimney was in bad shape and that we needed to reline our chimney, at considerable cost. We suspected this was a scam, and Mr. Liverman confirmed this. Mr. Liverman was thoroughly professional, informative and helpful. It's a dirty business (maybe in more than one sense, given our previous experience) but he left the area clean and us entirely satisfied.

We were taking out an old horsehair plaster wall and inadvertantly broke a cap from an old fireplace into our chimney. The result being a 7" diameter hole into our chimney. Erwin talked to my wife on the phone and assured her that our temporary patch was safe and made an appt to come two days later. He arrived on time and did a very nice job of fixing the hole. He did not try to sell me any other services or convince me that I needed a sleeve or anything else.

Everything went well and he did a great job. We will call him next year.

Erwin showed up on time. He moved all the furniture out of the way and put everything back exactly as he found it. There wasn't a speck of dirt or dust in sight when he finished. He found a problem with one of my fireplaces and ordered a part to repair it. He returned to finish the job as soon as the part was delivered to him and I paid him for all the work performed at that time. Great job!

Great, no problems. He is professional, experienced and did a good job and cleaned up when he was done. I have used him several times in the past and he certainly seems to know his stuff.

Mr. Liverman called to say he was running a little late, but this was minimal. He was very pleasant and checked the damper in the fireplace and looked up inside the chimney, saying that everything looked good as far as he could see. We told him that we thought that the fireplace had not been used since being cleaned the last time, but we wanted to be sure. He also checked the flus for the gas heater and gas water heater and said that both were okay. We also asked for an estimate for repointing the chimney and doing some masonry work on the front steps, which he sent through e-mail that afternoon. Erwin was very polite and respectful in dealing with our many questions. He also has great directions on his website about "How to Light a Fire".

Mr. Liverman advised us that his estimate would cost $85, whether he did any work or not, when we talked on the phone prior to doing the work. He arrived on time, repaired the damper quickly, and advised us that he couldn't guarantee that it would not need repair again. We appreciated his honesty and his professionalism. He was very businesslike. We sould recommend him without reservation. His original estimate charge covered the work he did, so there was no additional charge.

After leaving a message, Erwin called back the following day to schedule an appt in a few days. He took a look at the fireplace & flue and said that it was not that dirty, and said I could probably wait a few years for a full cleaning, so I skipped the cleaning. Based upon the grate that I had, he recommended using a metal fireback to protect the (non-firebrick) brick in my fireplace. I also showed him some photos from our original home inspection of the chimney flashing near the roof, and he said that it needed some sealing, which I agreed with. So $85 for the inspection, and $200 for the flashing sealing. His price for a sweep (which I didn't need) was a little higher than others, but he was honest, very experienced, and available immediately.

I set up an appointment to have our fireplaces and chimneys readyed for the upcoming winter season. Mr. Liverman was right on time for the appointment. He took great care to protect our furniture, floors and carpets while he cleaned both fireplaces and chimneys in our home. He made some very good suggestions on how to have the fires we burn help produce heat without trying to sell us expensive equipment and additions. He treated our home AND our wallet as if they were his own. He is a true gentleman and has the integrity that is so often lacking in too many businesses today.

He came to inspect, looked carefully and recommended some simple cleaning and mortar. He knows what he is doing! I was impressed by his honesty, professionalism and integrity of the work. He did the cleaning right on the spot which saved me time as well. I highly recommend him to anyone with old houses who needs to do some chimney work. Hands down, one of the best chimney guys whom I have worked with over many years.

We recently rented our downstairs unit and the tenant asked if the fireplace was usable. As we had not used either fireplace in the house since we moved in, we wanted to have them checked and cleaned before making a decision about using them. I researched chimney services via Angie's list and liked the comments in regards to Liverman Chimney, which spoke to his honesty and knowledgeable. I contacted E. Liverman Chimney by phone and described the situation. He explained his prices clearly, with $85.00 being the minimum and we set up an appointment. He arrived on time and got straight to the inspection. After inspecting both chimneys he advised me that neither were in need of cleaning. We looked at the chimney from outside house and he gave me a quote on doing some improvements to the outside stack. Based on my experience in property insurance (25+ years) I feel it was a good price. I have already given LIverman as a referral to a friend who is looking for chimney service and would recommend their service.

He was punctual, professional, clear, and competent. Did a great job, and went the extra mile to be helpful.

Called the number on Erwin's website Wednesday night and Erwing picked up and was able to fit me in for noon the next day. He and his son were about 10 minutes early and able to quickly look at the condition of the chimney and fireplaces. They didn't rush through anything and took the time to explain what they were doing, what's important and what's not important. As a first time homebuyer this was valuable advice. They charge $85 for an estimate/evaluation like this, but I consider it well worth it. Erwin explained that my chimney would in fact need a liner and that it would be pricey given the tough access and design of the chimney. Overall good experience. I would definitely recommend them, especially if you don't know too much about chimneys and want to learn a bit.

We were satisfied and pleased with the work that Erwin Liverman did for us. He was prompt, did what needed to be done, and didn't try to persuade us to do things that didn't need to be done. His charges were reasonable. All of the reviews I read in preparation for selecting a chimney sweep described homes built within the last 100 years. None had more than 4 flues. So I wondered how the companies that stood out in the reviews would respond to our 1884 building with its 4 chimneys containing 10 flues. After reading many reviews on Angie's List and talking with another sweep, I concluded that Erwin is the go-to guy in this area for inspection and repair of 19th century chimneys. Subsequent experience confirmed this. His charges were reasonable: $150 for the inspections and $200 for some minor repairs. I thought the rates he quoted for cleaning - $250 to $300 for the first flue and $150 for each additional - were a bit steep; but then I've never before lived in such a tall house. From the basement to the roof is 4 stories. That's a lot of chimney. Fortunately, we didn't need this service. I recommend Erwin Liverman for any chimney inspection, cleaning or repair, especially in a situation like ours.

Mr Liverman and his son were right on time. They immediately went to work. I was concerned with the damper (thinking it might need to be replaced). Mr Liverman inspected it and advised that it was simply off its track. He realligned it and showed me how to work it without knocking it off the track again. He was very knowledgable and both he and his son were very careful to protect our furniture and carpets. The only minor thing was my husband requested a receipt for our household records and Mr. Liverman did not have anything but an acknowledgement of payment written on a business card. Other than this it was a very positive experience with a gentleman who obviously takes a great deal of pride in his work and is, refreshingly, also very honest. We would definitely recommend Mr Liverman to friends.
