Delivery of propane, heating oil and Bioheat in Massachusetts. Service and installation of heating and air conditioning systems. Natural Gas and Electricity brokerage. Plumbing.
Oil was delivered a day late and at well above market prices. Problems with the water heating coil were not fixed, yet he replaced one of the parts (that did not fix the problem) and wanted to charge $325 for it, when the same part is $95 on internet. Promised that sales staff would follow up with a long term solution. They e-mailed 2 weeks later, after the holidays. Had I waited for them I would have been without hot water for weeks.

I was looking for the best price available without a contract. Devaney was the only supplier to agree to do this and their price was lower than the lock in prices. It was no contest. The delivery was done promptly and I was very pleased with their service.

We changed heating oil providers a year ago thanks to the recommendations we read on Angie's List. The first year was a little rocky but, I suppose, all new relationships take time. We had to get to know each other. We expect that this next year will be much better. We are pleased with their professionalism. Of course, we wish the the price of oil would drop!

I moved into a new house with oil heat in November. I'm new to both oil heat and forced air. The former owners used Devaney for their furnace service and oil delivery, and after doing some research and finding comparable deals with other oil service providers, decided to stick with Devaney for the oil delivery and service contract since they were familiar with the history of the furnace and oil use. I've been very happy. They came to do the yearly service immediately, and the tech was extremely helpful showing me what I needed to know about changing the filter, checking the furnace, etc. The furnace stopped working twice (it's an old furnace) and both times they came out in the middle of the night to fix it, within an hour of my calling. I have had to talk to customer service a couple of times about some billing changes and every time they were extremely helpful and accommodating. I've been happy with every interaction I've had with any of their service and account people.

They were fantastic from start to finish. It was complicated as I was getting it done for my elderly parents and was clueless about oil burners. Bud and all the other staff I had contact with were patient and kind. The job was finished in one day with no complications and my plumber friend says all the work is top notch. I did read other reviews saying that they are a little expensive and I did get quotes for less but you really do get what you pay for. I would rather pay a couple hundred more and have true professionals do the job!

My wife and I had a home energy assesment done through our electric provider. At the end of the assesment we learned we qualified for a boiler upgrade through a no interest loan program. Our boiler was original equipment installed in the house when it was built in the mid 1950's. The burner was replaced about 15 years ago by the previous home owner. I called 5 different companies, including my current oil company at the time, to get a quote on a new boiler. I told each one it would be paid hrough the HEAT Loan program. The sales person from James Devaney returned my call within a day and we made an appointment to look at the old boiler setup. I took the morning off from work to meet with him. He was running a little behind due to his visit to another home prior to mine. He called me to let me know he would be slightly late and appologized for the delay. (He wasn't that late!) When we went down to the basement he explained to me a little about my existing system. He pointed out a pipe running to my indirect water boiler that appeared to be undersized. He asked me how old the indirect water heater was and if I was having any problems with it. He told me about a boiler he thought that would be good for my house. He then asked me if I had any boilers I was interested in already. I told him I only knew some of the big names and other than that I had no preferrence. When we finished looking at the boiler we went up stairs. To qualify for a HEAT Loan I would need a heat loss calculation performed to show that the new boiler would be the right size for my house. He began to take the measurements necessary to do the heat loss calculations with no guarantee he would be given the job. He thought for the short time it would take to take for the measurements it would be easier to do it then than come back later if he got the job. Within the week I received an envelope from the sales person. Inside were three seperate quotes for three different boilers with the cheapest being about $1,580 less than the most expensive unit; the one he had recommended. Each quote had a quote for a new indirect water heater if I wanted to add that option. The lowest quoted price boiler also had an option I could check off for a controller that would make that unit more efficient if I wanted to add that option. (Checking that option made it the mid priced boiler.) The other representatives from the other companies I called each came to my house, took a quick look at the existing system, then left. None of them asked me what I was looking for. None of them took heat loss measurements, although they each knew it is a requirement for the HEAT Loan program. Two gave me verbal quotes including an $8,000 quote on one of the two lower quoted priced units James Delaney had already quoted me. (When I asked him about his price he told me they do nice work.) I called the sales rep from Devaney a couple times to get more information about the units he had quoted. He answered my questions never trying to push one choice over the next. Ultimately I went with the high tech unit he told me about during the visit. I submitted my paper work to the bank then sent James Devaney the check for the work. They had the new boiler ready for delivery within two weeks. The crews they had come to the house were great too. They subcontracted a demolition company to remove the old boiler. The only way to get this heavy monster out of the house was through the bulk head in the back of the house. Because the ground was frozen I offered to let them drive their truck to the back yard to cut down on the distance they had to move it. They didn't want to ruin my lawn even though I kept telling them that a little loam and seed would take care of any damage they could do it. They put down real heavy tarps from the bulkhead to the unfinished portion of the basement to protect the rugs. They moved a couple pieces of furniture and quot;just in case they were in the wayand quot;. They took great care getting the old boiler out of the house and the new boiler into the house. While they were moving the boilers out and into the house two guys from Devaney prepared for the new boiler. As I watched them work every now and then I could see they took pride in their work. When I'd ask questions they'd stop and answer my questions. They ran the pipes and wires so they have a neat appearance. (It didn't cost me extra like it would have with the other company.) Even their choice of wire color made it easier for them to conceal the wires that they tied to the copper pipe. They even replaced the section of pipe to the indirect water heater the sales person thought was undersized. As they were cleaning up I asked one of them for guidance in filling out a rebate form I had for the new boiler. He told me to fill out what I could and he'd take it to his office to have them finish what I couldn't. Within a couple days they mailed me a photo copy of the form filled out with a note that they had mailed it and told me when I should expect the check. During this whole process everyone had been great. They 've followed up to make sure everything was done to my sastifaction. As part of the contract for the boiler installation I had to switch oil companies. (That was pretty much standard for all of the quotes from oil companies.) The first 150 gallons are at reduced rate. I think I am going to like having them as my new oil company.

I cannot say enough good thing about James Devaney Fuel. We have been in this house for the past 3 years and have them as our heat/oil provider based on the high recommendation from the previous owner of the house. They are so many better than two other oil companies that we have worked with in our previous condo. They are always prompt, professional, dependable and honest. Yes, with the oil prices these days, sometimes we get a shock with our oil bill in the winter, but their service well made up for it. We come out all kinds of hours (and almost always show up within 2 hours of your service call unless you want them to come later) and always get the problem fixed no matter how much time they need to spend on it.
Description of Work: We woke up one morning with no heat and no hot water. We call at 6:30am, they came out and have the problem fixed by 8am (replaced a transformer). We don't even have to be late for work. This is not the first time they performed such superb service with us. We have an old unit in the house, last winter they probably have came out 6-8 times over the season for all kinds of minor issues. Everytime, prompt, professional and always get the problem fixed.

Field technician was very prompt, friendly, and courteous. He went immediately to work and continued until completion. The job went smoothly and without interruption to my own activities. The tune-up was thorough and complete. I'll be very comfortable with this company as my heating service provider. I have also seen numerous positive recommendations, and have to totally agree with them. I now have peace of mind in this regard.

We moved into our new home in September. Just prior to closing the previous owners installed a new Buderus furnace and a full tank of oil. So we took our time picking a new oil company, looked at all the offers and joined Angie's list to figure out who to use. We picked James Devaney Fuel Company for a couple of reasons, but mostly because of the comments we read here. And the positive comments were SPOT-ON! We called Devaney just last week. Their sales rep came by the house over the weekend to note the placement of the tank, etc. Our timing couldn't have been better, because on Tuesday morning we woke up to a cold house and cold water. After trying to restart the furnace once, we called Devaney at about 6:10 AM. A service tech, Peter, was at the house by 8:10 AM and the job was done by 9:30. Peter was professional, neat, and by all measures knew what he was doing--which is apparently a bit more than the other company that did the original installation. I don't normally post comments on something like this, but their service was so good and so prompt, I couldn't keep it quiet.

I can't say enough about this company - they are fantastic. We have been customers since 1994. They are smart, honest, punctual. They come out at all hours for emergencies. They trouble shoot well and never ask for unnecessary repair authorization. The technician was here this past week for our annual tune up, we recently had some work done on our kitchen and our contractor added a new zone to our boiler. The Devaney technician saw that a pipe they installed could be whacked by our laundry room door and he moved it to a safer location as a preventive measure. He was here for close to 3 hours. They help us feel safe and sound in the winter. They now use bioheat, I suspect their prices are on the higher side but the service is outstanding. The amount listed here is what I think the service contract which covers the tune-up runs.

They had a very convenient monthly billing schedule that was paid per bill. They did a split schedule. The billing department was always very available and willing to work with me. They were very nice. I would say that there were dispatchers, who were in charge of emergencies when I had an emergency. The oil change was not filled, when it was suppose to and I was left without the heat for several hours. The responsiveness of the emergency dispatchers had been better.

Devaney's sales person promptly returned my call and was available to come by for the bid precisely when I needed them. He did a quick, but thorough examination of what work needed to be done and walked us through what the new furnace would likely need in terms of space, pipes, etc. Upon receiving the quote, there was some concern that the bid wasn't as detailed as other bids I had received but yet this still did offer enough detail that I could infer that it would be done with a high level of quality. The crew started at 8am, and even arrived a bit early despite a pretty good snowstorm. They immediately went to work at dismantling the old system while a demo crew removed it. The crew was polite and courteous, and by 6pm that evening we had our new boiler up and running hot water through the house. A very simple, no hassle process all in all. I would recommend Devaney for future work without issue.

I called most of the major local suppliers and settled on Devaney due to their responsiveness, pricing and large team of service techs. They also do not require a long term oil contract. They had a good new customer deal with 2 year furnace service contract included. Sales rep was honest and responsive. The tech that did my furnace tuneup was very knowledgeable and patient. They have delivered oil twice and so far no problems.

Devaney has shown a level of expertise and professionalism which was lacking in my only other comparison. From the salesperson to the technician to the office staff, I have been pleased. As a side note, I also called Devaney's related/in-house plumbing service, and someone came to my home for a quick quote on a change I was considering. Based on my experiences, which are admittedly still limited, I would recommend this company.
Description of Work: I recently switched to Devaney/Hughes for my oil service provider. I decided to switch to them after calling a few providers and asking about service contracts. At the time, they had the best deal, but I have been happy with my choice. I recently had the annual furnace/burner tune-up and was pleased with the expertise shown by the technician (one of my reasons for leaving my previous service provider). Since I was under the service contract, there was no charge for several changes related to the tune-up.

This was a big job that took 2+ men a full week to complete. They were completely professional and personable and the result was outstanding. I don't know why we waited so long to do this. The salesman, Rick Aprea, who came to our house to inspect and give an estimate, was very up front about the costs and the work involved. There was no pressure to buy.
