Bill was very thorough, efficient, and explained everything in layman's terms. We actually needed the official estimate quicker than usual and Bill provided it only a couple days after. Again, went over everything job by job, price by price and was very easy going. The offer on the house fell through so unfortunately we couldn't use Bill's services but we will definitely contact him again for our next offer. Communication was great. Either with his company's voicemail or his cell phone he was very quick to pick up or call back.

Bill seemed like a great guy - very friendly and knowledgable. We recently purchased a house in the north shore with the intention to do an addition. We wanted to explore options to go both up and back on the house. We contacted Bill and he responded right away with a time / date that worked for our schedules. We had to cancel due to a timing issue on the purchase and Bill was extremely flexible in reworking the time. In fact, the day I called him he said he could come out a few hours later to do the visit. Bill was there on time. While there we discussed all of our wishlist items and the pros / cons of adding up or back. We also discussed a kitchen remodel we wanted as well. Before leaving, Bill did some quick measurements that would allow him to provide us a high level quote of the work. Bill responded about 2 days later with the high level quote on all the items we discussed, which was exactly when he said he would respond. The quote we recieved was a bit higher than others. We were not really able to connect on what assumptions were made in doing the quote so I don't want to misrepresent him as being overly costly just more than others but enough so that it probably didn't make sense to get too much further in the weeds. My only comment, not complaint, would be that I think I would have liked to work with Bill, but wasn't really sure "what to do next". We received the quote, it was in the ballpark of what we expected but I think to get the details on the quote we would have needed to committ on choosing his company, which we were not ready to do yet. Overall, seemed like a great guy, lots of great reviews we just were not able to get past the quote part. Different processes for different companies and felt with my budget and a slight deadline issue down the road, I wanted to know all details before I moved forward.
Description of Work: Bill Perry visited our house on extremely short notice to do a walkthrough on construction options for a single level ranch. Bill provided a high level estimate of the work that we had discussed at the meeting.

Very professional and timely estimate. Discussed decking alternatives and priced two alternatives. Pricing was on the high side, but may have been negotiable if we discussed the actual work to be performed. I priced all the material and estimated the margin, labor costs and commissions to arrive at my expected price. Only one company (of three) came close.
Perry Brothers Construction will be starting next week. Bill Perry is wonderful. He showed up on time and he looked over everything and gave me an estimate in the mail right away, within a few days. There were a couple of things missing on the estimate that he had mentioned while we did the walk through, so he put those in for a revised estimate. We signed a permit. He's taken care of everything. He's a very, very nice guy. Bill's entire crew were on time, clean, and worked together to get the job done. I was able to speak to each of the different trades to discuss what they were doing each day. The electrician had to do more work because of the outdated wire; I asked the plumber to replace a pipe that was rotted in the basement and repair 2 running toilets; and Ken, the carpenter, did a fantastic job on all the trim work. After the basement was finished, Bill gave me a proposal to have Ken and his assistant replace my wooden gutters. He also added the trim work underneath the gutters and bay window. I am so happy I chose Bill Perry and his crew. We've stayed in contact because I keep adding work in other areas of the house. I would definitely recommend Perry Brothers to all my neighbors and friends. He's well worth the money!
Description of Work: They're re-doing my basement and they're putting up walls and spraying waterproofing product on my fieldstone basement walls and they're painting and doing electrical work.

The experience working with the Perry Brothers Construction was excellent from start to finish. Bill Perry did the initial estimate for me. He was very pleasant, highly professional, and punctual. They cam back again and re-measured to be sure prior to ordering the doors. Once the doors came in they called and set up a time to get started. There was a bit of a hiccup as the doors could not be delivered on the day promised, but was not their fault. They quickly recovered and had the doors delivered within a few days. The two men that put in the doors were very professional, courteous...and believe it or not- quiet. They understood that I my job where I work from home was still happening while they were there, and they were very respectful of that. They did a great job of cleaning up their mess as they went along, which I really appreciated! The painter, Shawn came the next two days working on sanding and preparing and then painting. The job was very tedious as there were 90 window panes to go around. He was extremely courteous, respectful, detail-oriented and professional,-exactly what you would want for someone doing this kind of job. This was especially important due to the fact that I was working on my office computer or on the phone n the den quite a bit of the time he was working. He was meticulous with clean-up , both on the doors themselves and the area around him. He went well-beyond expectations which did not go unnoticed. Final result- the doors look beautiful and are fully functional. They look like they were always there as they fit in perfectly with the other woodwork in the house. Excellent experience and can't wait for them to do my next project. Highly recommend!
Description of Work: They installed a set of french doors leading to my den , and a single french door on other side of den. They sanded and painted once installed.

Bill was at least the 3rd contractor that I've hired over the years to attempt to fix a very stubborn water leak. The problem only shows up during rainstorms with a strong Northeast wind, so it has been challenging to determine success - or lack thereof. Bill returned my call within 1 hour of my initial message and was able to stop by that same day. He had an estimate for the service to me by the end of the day, and was out to do the work within a week. Nature then obliged by providing a huge wind/rainstorm the following day, so we had a great test of his work. No leak for the first time in probably 15 years! Professional service from start to finish.

We were in the process of buying a home and we needed a quote for renovation work for our homepath mortgage. Homepath renovation loans require one general contractor for all renovation work. We required electrical, plumbing, paving and boiler replacement. Bill Perry was our only contact for this project. He met us at the property and discussed our proposed work. He actually advised us against some of our plans telling us that given our budget the smarter plan would be to wait and consider it later on. He was in constant contact with us as our loan progressed, submitting required paperwork as soon as we needed it. We had an undefined delay in closing due to bank issues and he set us at ease telling us he would be ready when we were. Sadly the house fell through due to seller failure to clear title and we were unable to utilize bill's services. I'm certain that if Bill's work on the property matched his efficiency in submitting the detailed quote and constant communication, we would have been more than pleased. We can only hope that when we do buy a house, that we can work with bill on necessary renovations.

Work was started and completed exactly as promised.
we had waited for a long time to get this work done and had other estimates. Bill Perry came numerous times to go over the estimate and any changes we wanted made and brought his architect . His price you couldn't beat and his knowledge and suggestions were so helpful. Bill was never pushy but respectfully offered his advice. Bill's crew were great, skilled and cleaned uo after themselves. The tile work in the bathrooms came out great. We had all the rooms painted, they all came out great.Overall the project turned out great, we are so happy we picked Bill, an honest and kind man. Any future work we will definitely call Bill. The house looks great.
Description of Work: we had 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms gutted rebuilt, all new flooring on 1st level put in, 2large geometric windows at top of our catherdreal ceiling replaced, hearth of fireplace changed, roof repaired and new chimney cap installed, new front door ,entryway retiled and stairs refinished, replaced about 1foot of wall board and installed new baseboard in familyroom, and installed many new lighting fixtures throughout the house.

Our family took this job on thinking we would do most of this work ourselves. After what turned into weeks of demolition ( one thing always led to three new things to do") we came to realize... without professional help we would never be done. We may have the skill but not the time it turns out and Perry Brothers saved us. We found them here on Angies Listt and are forever grateful we did! Being your own GC can be overwhelming and time consuming to say the least, especially if you don't have a group tried and true subs lined up waiting for you. Bill Perry took over all our headaches by coordinating and overseeing all the jobs listed above. His teams showed up on schedule and executed their work as promised. Bill kept in constant contact with me and was present to oversee progress even on weekends if necessary. I can' t say enough about how great it was to have Bill there to answer any questions, research options, make suggestions, schedule and the work, supply stock as requested and execute as promised. He was always there when we needed him, never pressured us to use him rather then do it ourselves to keep expenses down ( which we sometimes did at his suggestion). These guys are great...don't think twice about contacting Bill for a quote. He is fair, honest and reliable. PLease Note: We rated the quality of work as "good" rather than excellent only because we have had work done iin past homes of ours which was much more intricate and specialized than required here as comparison (also a LOT more expensive). If we could have, we would rate Perry Bros. quality VERY good. I am greatful to Angies List for helping us find this company AND giving us the opportunity to let others know about Perry Brothers!
Description of Work: We hired Perry Brothers to help us when renovating a 200+ year old Newburyport home. They did a great job with our Interior trim installation, multiple door installation, tile installation, drop in tub frame and finish, wood floor installations and finishing, kitchen cabinet installation, painting of walls, ceilings and trim.

As usual, an outstanding job by Perry Brothers. I have had a significant amount of work done by Perry Brothers in the past, and so I chose them again to do this electrical and carpentry work. I was as pleased as ever with Bill Perry's availability and responsiveness, and couldn't be happier with the quality of the work. The care taken with mounting the new lighting fixtures, the neatness and quality of the interior electrical work, the perfectly functioning new doors, and attention to detail with the finish carpentry are all typical of the high quality of Perry Brothers' work. All materials and stock were top quality. I highly recommend Perry Brothers Construction.
Description of Work: 1. Installed seven outdoor electrical light fixtures (fixtures supplied by the owner);2. Supplied and installed one new light fixture in the cellar;3. Ran new electrical feeds for an air conditioner and cable TV connecton in the master bedroom;3. Supplied and installed two bi-fold closet doors and two solid-core louvered door units with hardware in cellar.

Bill Perry was my primary contact. Bill submitted a detailed quote to me including the work to be performed and materials. Bill obtained the necessary building permit from the town and began construction two weeks after which involved extending my deck by 142 square feet. The job was completed in three days. The materials and workmanship was excellent. The individuals involved were very friendly and professional and extremely neat, removing all materials from the site after completion. I would highly recommend Perry Brothers Construction for any of your construction and remodeling projects.
Description of Work: Extend current wooden deck adding a total of 142 square feet
It went very well. I contacted Bill and he scheduled a prompt estimate. He came out to my house on-time. He was friendly and knowledgable. I received my estimate within a day. I was pleased with the estimate and decided to move forward with the work. Bill's brother performed all of the work. It is truly a family business. He and his son arrived at my home, again, on time. They explained all of the steps thoroughly and gave me updates throughout the day. They left my house clean and the work was top notch. I would definitely hire them again to do work!
Description of Work: Perry Brothers installed a bathroom fan/light combo and vented it. They also installed a stack vent to release the waste water gas out of the attic.

I called Perry Brothers Construction because I found their name on Angus List. After leaving a message Bill called back with in a half an hour and was at my house the same day. I told Bill what I was looking for and together we worked out a draft. A few days later Bill brought his architect over and we discussed options and the architects drawing where emailed to me that evening! The architect and I went back and fourth with ideas and I even changed the dimensions- no problem. I wanted to have cedar shingles on the roof (Cape Cod look). Bill with all his expertise steered me in another direction but not after researching many composite shingle like products that he knew as well as the products I found while surfing the net. I was away from the project for about a month, no problems ensued and work continued on schedule. I did come back home for one day to touch down with Bill. On that day Bill scheduled a meeting with the AC person and electrician to get the biggest bang out of my visit. Bill and his crew are professional, knowledgeable, personable and flexible from day one of this project. Bill is such a great guy he even brought us yummy fish from his recent fishing trip as well as gave my husband fishing tips! I feel so fortunate that I have found a GREAT contractor ( thank you Angies List). Bill will be my go to contractor for all my future projects.
Description of Work: My husband and I are putting on a large (20X30 great room) addition to our home. We have a 1850 period house and are working with Bill Perry to make the addition light and bright but still flow with the rest of our house. The addition has one non negotiable requirement - a wall space big enough to support a large painting. At every stage of the project Bill is protecting the space for the painting. I had my heart set on Cape Cod shingles for the addition. Bill told me that shingles in NH will never get the nice gray look so he researched other options. In addition, Bill looked into the composite shingles I found on the internet. All the professionals that Bill has working with him: architect, builders, electrician etc. are A+. They are punctual, reliable, knowledgeable, neat, and always willing to take time to explain what they are doing.
This was the second project that we hired Bill Perry to manage. We had high expectations because his work on the original project was outstanding and Perry Brothers Construction hit it out of the park once again. The work was affordable, they finished a week early and most importantly, our house now feels like a home.
Description of Work: Perry Brothers Construction was hired to update the interior of a 70 year old house on a lake. A new bathroom sink, shower and linoleum flooring were installed. All the living room windows were replaced. The kitchen received new lighting and flooring. The walls and ceiling around the fireplace were reinforced. Large areas of old drywall throughout the house were replaced. The entire interior was painted. A new deck stairway was constructed. As a bonus Bill Perry had his carpenters build custom bookshelves around the bedroom windows to provide us with additional shelf space.

We own an old farm house which the rooms were chopped up by previous owners. There was no bathroom on the first floor as well the kitchen and living room were not functional so we decided to do a complete renovation of the first floor. The house was built in the late 1800s so we anticipated issues once the gutting began. Bill Perry (owner) worked with us with options to help keep the project within budget. We found Perry Construction on Angie's list and have been happy with their work. I would recommend them to friends and family in the future.
Description of Work: 1st floor renovation project which included gutting most of the 1st floor, removing walls, adding LVL beams, remodeled the Kitchen, installed new wide board pine plank flooring, adding a vestibule, half bath, and all the associated electrical and plumbing.
The work done to convert a rundown garage into a cozy cottage was extensive. The project was completed on time which was crucial because a disabled person was ready to move in. Bill Perry was always available to answer our questions either on site or by phone. The outstanding craftsmanship that was obvious by the end of the project fulfilled our expectations. Thanks to Bill and his crew!
Description of Work: We had Perry Brothers Construction convert an unused two car garage into a one bedroom cottage with wheelchair access. It was a major project in that the original building was basically a shell that needed a kitchen, bathroom, and heating to be installed. There were also hardwood floors put in as well as a new roof and a cement walkway. We wanted the space to allow a lot of light in so Bill Perry designed a beautiful 8' redwood window box for the living room and added glass french doors where the garage door used to be. The kitchen had custom maple cabinets and recessed lighting that provided a warm feel to the interior.

Our project was a nightmare, but that was not Bill's fault. I contacted Bill in the spring of 2011 to come out as we had some ice dams which had caused water damage, as well as we seemed to have some siding which was looking to be in need of replacement. As Bill walked around the property, including getting on the roof, it became clear our issues were larger than we could possibly have imagined. Having just bought the house a little more than a year before, it was difficult to hear we had been taken advantage of. We needed to replace many of the windows and completely replace the roof and siding on the house. On the first day of work (August 15, 2011) when Mike, Kenny, Scotty, and the rest of guys arrived, it became clear we had some even greater issues. As they removed the plaster from the ceiling in the garage to replace the areas damaged by water, it became obvious the main beam running through the ceiling had failed and needed immediate attention. The guys knew exactly what to do and had the whole front of the house on 20 ton jacks the next morning. As the work went on, it became more and more obvious there were some other serious issues with the house; an addition put on in 1996 was never built up to code, which included never caulking any of the windows and never attaching the sliding door to the house. If Bill had not been able to calmly deal with these issues, 1.) I would probably had a nervous break down, and 2.) our house could have literally fallen down. Through the sizable and extended work, Bill and his team were always very polite and respectful, and seemed invested in helping find a reasonable solution to our MANY problems. All the guys who worked here were friendly and willing to answer any question. Bill would always return a call or an email and never left us hanging, which we really appreciated. Any time we had an issue, Bill was willing to talk it out and find a way forward, understanding we were at times overwhelmed by the scope of the project. We are just about finished with the work on the house, and are so happy with the results; not only is the house now structurally sound, it looks beautiful.
Description of Work: Perry Brothers did a complete overhaul of the exterior of our home, including a new roof; new cedar siding; new windows; new exterior and garage doors; new exterior lighting; new front porch; new drainage around our garage; and a new roof and doors on our shed. The team also installed three new beams through our garage to hold up the front of the house and some additional support in the basement. They also replaced all the headers over the windows and sliders in the back of the house to better distribute the weight of the house as the previous headers were bending, preventing windows from opening.

Bill Perry and his various crews worked extremely well in moving this project along very smoothly. One crew to remove siding, wrap the house and redo the vents. Then another for the trim kits. The trim carpenters are real artisans. The trim really pops, its the first thing you notice about the house . The siding crew Dan and John, came back and did the labor intensive cutting, fitting and attaching the Hardy planks. The gutters and and downspouts were next. And a thousand little details were attended to as they popped up. The painters were last and then the whole outside of the house was --well new. The house does in fact look new, and the neighbors and a few strangers have stopped by to pay their compliments. The Perry brothers stop by every day their crews are on site. They will stop by to chat if you are at home to address any issues you have. Otherwise the are not shy about calling you, leaving voice mails, etc to discuss the project.
Description of Work: Removed outside of the house from top ( gutters) to bottom (all the clapboards and window trim). Installed ridge and soffit vents. Covered house in protective wrap. Installed new window and door trim with decorative PVC kits. Installed Hardy planks as siding. Added new gutters and downspouts. Primed and painted all trim and caulked all Hardy plank as directed by the manufacturer.
Perry Brothers' work was absolutely top-notch from start to finish! Bill Perry coordinated and oversaw every aspect of the work, and he was extremely accessible and helpful every step of the way. The most impressive thing about Perry Brothers was that every single member of the team for every part of the work was professional, efficient, highly skilled, communicative, and friendly. I felt that Bill Perry and the crew all genuinely wanted to solve the water problems I had at the basement door and under the deck, and they brainstormed ideas with me until we all agreed that we had exactly the right solutions. The technical skill and experience of the team really came through to give me a tremendous result masterfully executed, from the quality of the new deck to the massive water tightness of the new bulkhead, the repair of exterior siding and trim, interior finish work, and electrical repairs. I would not hesitate to recommend Perry Brothers to anyone for any type of home repair or construction. They are the most knowledgable, skillful, hardworking, and friendly contractor I've ever encountered!
Description of Work: Perry Brothers did the following projects for me during the late summer/early fall of 2011: Removed a 27’ X 12’ deck that collapsed during heavy snow and rain in the winter of 2010-11; Built a new 27’ X 12’ deck with pressure-treated lumber, Azek rails, new pre-cast footings, and a new concrete pad for the stairs; Replaced damaged house siding and rotted sheathing above the deck with new pre-primed cedar siding, plywood sheathing, water/ice shield, and new flashing; Replaced rotted trim around two windows and sliding deck door with Azek; Re-graded the soil beneath the deck by addition of new compacted fill to solve water ponding problem, with new rubber membrane on foundation of house extended under the new fill; Removed the wooden stairs from an outdoor basement stairwell and installed a new precast concrete stair unit with steel bulkhead, watertight seal to the foundation, and complete backfill of the old stairwell space with concrete to solve a basement water problem; Installed a new fiberglass basement door to replace the old water-damaged door, with new exterior and interior trim, and repair of interior wall at bulkhead attachment points through the foundation; Replaced two double hung windows in the breezeway with new Harvey replacement windows, insulation, and weather caulking; Landscaped the backyard with new loam and seed to repair tire ruts from concrete truck and truck that delivered the new bulkhead unit; Repaired a broken electrical receptacle on the deck, running a new electrical line to a new GFI receptacle; Checked the electrical feeds on an air conditioning unit and two garage lights.
The house was 110 years-old and facing a tremendous amount of wear and tear that had previous band-aid repairs up to this point. The main wall of the enclosed front porch was beginning to pull away from the house and the sunroom (and 2nd floor master bedroom above it) was beginning to sink into the ground. We knew it was going to be a big project when we bought the house. The plan was to rip out that porch and replace it with part mud-room/part open air porch as well as reinforce the foundation supports under the sunroom. Perry Brothers was one of the 3 contractors that we had come in to bid on the work and he came in with the 2nd best price, but, more importantly, Bill was very approachable about the process as we tried to figure out what had to be done. I found Bill (the owner) and his crew to be very professional, although he's very much in demand. "Punctuality" and "Responsiveness" were marked as a "B - good" only because we had actually signed a contract to begin work as far back as May of 2011, but it did not begin until July (again, due to demand). As far as daily work went, the actual crew (led by Ken) showed up by 8:30 everyday and were exceptionally clean, which drew praise from many neighbors (some of which were also contractors). Overall, the project ran long at just about 2 months, but there were enough mitigating factors including unexpected structural issues due to age and the weather (heatwaves and rain) to account for this. Some might consider writing milestone dates into a contract, but we found mutual agreement in accommodating each other's schedules that it wasn't a problem. With that written, Perry Bros. really did outstanding work and has *constantly* drawn praise from neighbors and passers-by. Change-orders did go in due to additional structural work that was required (again, 110-year old house) and they were very flexible when it came to explaining the issues that had arose as well as providing recommendations and pricing out those changes. In general they were very approachable as just about each morning I would check in with them to see what their status was and they would share what the plan/upcoming schedule included. Their craftsmanship is impeccable as is their commitment to professionalism and attention to detail -- wood trim was cut to match the contours of the fieldstone foundation. Ken also took down all of the railings to move the ballusters one notch each -- just so it was "right". Thank you, Ken, for suffering throught that! ( ' : The highest praise I can offer is that we're so satisifed with the work that we will approach Bill first when we begin to plan our kitchen re-modeling (110-year old house, awful railcar layout).

After finding a bulge in a plaster wall that is directly below my chimney, Bill Perry's crew took a look and diagnosed that there was an opening from the lead flashing of the chimney. After further inspection, it was obvious the roof boards surrounding the chimney were rotting and needed replacing, too. The previous roof contractor had cheaped out on the work and tried to shove shingles in between the existing flashing as opposed to redoing it properly. Bill Perry came out a few days later to take a look himself to double check his crew's estimate and confirmed the work that needed to be done. Bill's roof guy did the job in 3 days -- Joe removed the bad flashing and the shingles that were on the rotting boards. He found the chimney was a bit unstable at this point, so he reinforced it before redoing the flashing. He stepped the flashing appropriately since the roof is pitched at such a big angle. He replaced the roof boards (about 4 feet on each side of the chimney) and then reshingled the roof. I had some extra shingles, but more were required, so they picked up more shingles. They cleaned it up appropriately and everything looks and holds up great!
Description of Work: Replaced flashing around chimney that was leaking; reinforced chimney; replaced roof boards that were deteriorating around chimney; placed chimney cap on chimney
Work is about to commence on our house. I first contacted Bill in April about some siding which looked like it needed replacing and water damage from ice dams. Upon further inspection, Bill ascertained our siding was in a far worse state than initially thought because the previous owners of the house filled in areas of decay, etc. with wood putty, covering up a number of issues. He also discovered there was no moisture barrier behind any of our siding, adding to the problem. Bill spent a long time going around our house on a ladder and walking all over our roof (it is not water tight as it was not installed correctly). Bill came up with plans to address our issues, always thoughtful about materials. He has been endlessly patient as we worked though all the information and helped us make decisions. He explained everything, and calmly and clearly answered all our questions. He is never pushy, and is always realistic, helping us get the "best bang for the buck." His quotes are a little higher than from other contractors we consulted with, but he always returns phone calls and comes when he says he is going to. We are very much looking forward to finishing our current project and continuing to work with Bill in the future.
Description of Work: Bill Perry and his team are replacing our roof, almost all our cedar siding, 11 windows and installing one new picture window; repairing water damage to our living room and garage; and installing new garage doors and front doors. He is also installing a trench in front of our garage to link to a dry well to help manage water issues in our driveway
