Our home is a 14 room historic house that?s over 300 years old. We therefore were very careful in hiring a contractor with the right experience to deal with the challenges of an old building. We definitely found the right company for the job when we hired Perry Brothers Construction. Bill Perry gave us very good advice during the proposal phase of our project and a very fair price that was the lowest of 4 estimates we received from reputable contractors. He worked closely with us to determine exactly what we needed and provided a detailed estimate so we knew exactly what work would be done and what materials would be used. The Perry Brothers construction crew did a great job in all aspects of the work. They went the extra mile to make sure that the walls and windows were well insulated and weatherproofed, that all bare wood was well primed before installation and that any rotten boards and sills were properly repaired before siding. They were very easy to work with when we wanted something extra done. They would always take the time to answer our questions. The crew was friendly and courteous and did a good job keeping the work area safe and clean. The carpenters were skilled and experienced and knew how to deal with the special needs of an old post and beam house where walls and floors were rarely level. Perry Brothers also did all the exterior and interior painting. It was a real plus not having to contract separately for painting and the price was very reasonable. The painters were professional, skilled and nice guys to deal with. They did a great job making sure that everything was well prepared, caulked, primed and painted with at least 2 coats of high quality solid stain. They coordinated well with the carpenters, painting the front of the house while the carpenters were finishing the back of the house. They completed the painting only a few days after the carpenters were done so the project was not extended waiting for the painting to get done. Before completing the job, we were asked to prepare punch lists for any items we were not fully satisfied with for both the construction work and painting. The picky punch lists were promptly completed to our full satisfaction.

Ok, Angies, 3rd attempt to leave a review since January - I get the confirmation that I submitted web page, but then you tell me nothing was when I ask where the review is days later :( Bill and his crew were GREAT. Bill always came/called when he said he would and worked hard to make us happy during the entire process. Any issues I contacted him about he immediately sent a crew person by to handle/fix. Crew was always courteous and professional. I was not truly expecting such service and quality after previous jobs with other contractors over the years when typically they didn't show up and didn't communicate much. Well worth the rate charged. I would totally trust them with any future projects. Thanks Bill and crew!

We had the gentleman come over for an estimate and he was very nice. They do a lot of different types of projects and all that so I did contact him about something else and the thing that surprised me was that they never called back, however, things were resolved and I would consider using him going forward for future projects. He was really good. He was very personable. He came to the house and gave us an estimate for our door and we talked about other things that we could be doing with our house in the spring and all that so he gave us his card, if we needed him for any other reason and later on we called him about the water heater. He kind of surprised me, he seemed quite confident and was on time and stuff like that. We were replacing a water heater. The first call was for an estimate on the front door. The owner came down with the estimate and sat down with us.

I felt like Bill and his team really had a good appreciation for what i was looking for. They were all very professional, courteous and trustworthy. Once the job started, they were very efficient and there when they said they would be. The deck came out great, and while we did have a glitch with the ability to put in a full height door, the solution they worked out was fantastic.

We bought a house while overseas and asked Bill to be our general contractor. In a word, he was fantastic! Reliable and trustworthy. He had to juggle quite a few workers in order to get our project completed in a timely manner. He also had to communicate with us which was a challenge given the time difference. Bill made every effort to insure we had all the information we needed to make decisions and he worked tirelessly to be sure we were satisfied. Our house is very old and needed a lot of TLC. Bill was able to help us every step of the way.

Project #1 Worked on replacement/support of joists in the basement as well as a beam in the sunroom. All work was done in one day and went very well. They gentlemen (Ken and Brullio) were very good at letting me know what was going on etc. Cleaned up everything before they left. Project #2 This came as a HUGE surprise. Upon inspecting around the house because some siding was bulging out the guys found some hidden damage on a cross beam that supported my sunroom when they started to take the siding off. They only came to fix what was causing the bulge but ended up working for days to fix and replace the whole beam since it was on the verge of collapsing. I was a nervous wreck the whole time but things went so smooth. They supported the room, tore everything out and replaced everything to look brand new. Mr. Perry was a HUGE help as well making sure to work with my insurance company to get this taken care of. Thank god for Perry Brothers Construction and a bunch a great guys that worked on this! Project #3 Roof/Replacement skylights. Roof went up very quick...one day in fact. They had to strip down the whole roof as well as replace 2 skylights in the back. There was a small adjustment to the skylights that they had to be made but Ken worked with them to make sure that everything aligned right. There was also a small delay that day because of some rain and the guys who did the work stayed until very late to make sure everything was done right. They cleaned up everything around the house including what went flying everywhere because of the wind earlier. Project #4 Installed rear door leading to sunroom. Everything went well from cutting out door, moving electrical, to trim and cleanup. Additional item that I wanted done was replacing some wooden railings that led out to sliders on my sunroom. Since it was a 4 foot drop I had to have something there and did not want the wooden ones back up. Ken worked with me to try to find something that would look nice as well as work as a good railing. He was very patient since I had not clue as to what to put up. One trip to Lowes and ideas went flying around. Finally found what was needed, ordered it and they were installed. He also made sure I was happy with how it looked before installing the rest of them. There were 4 that need to be put up. Overall it has been fantastic working with Mr. Perry, Ken, Brullo and some of the other guys. I will definitely be calling them back to do some additional work next year and would highly recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: Replaced/supported joists in basement, secured beam in sunroom, installed rear door leading to sunroom, roof/new skylights and and replaced a cross beam in the sunroom that was about to collapse. Note: Approximate cost does not include what insurance covered.

What began as a relatively small job replacing gutters became a much larger one once Bill?s team discovered rot in a number of our exterior window frames and front vestibule. While the prospect of investing in substantial, unanticipated work is frightening to any homeowner, Bill and his team managed the process with a great deal of flexibility and professionalism. Knowing that we were on a tight budget, they provided multiple options for us to consider. Dan, who led the day-to-day work on the ground, was particularly helpful. He frequently sought our input, was available to answer questions, and was helpful in explaining their work in detail so that we understood the repair process throughout. The workmanship is top notch and we are very happy with the quality of repairs. You may find less expensive solutions, but the customer service and workmanship will not be of the same caliber.

After receiving positive feedback from a neighbor who had recently hired Perry Bros. for a bathroom remodel, I noticed Perry Bros. also came up with some positive reviews on Angie's list for roofing. I called Bill Perry and he sent his man Mike over to take a look. Mike spent an hour and a half investigating possible sources for the leak, far more than any of the other three contractors who had been there previously for the same issue (including the one who had originally put the roof on, three years ago. His review comes later!). By the time Mike left that day, after several trips both up the ladder to the roof -- including once with the garden hose to try to rule out certain possibilities for the source of the leak -- and up the stairs to the attic, Mike had been able to clearly describe the problem to me, and just as clearly described the work that should be done to fix it. After finishing some bigger jobs, Bill was able to schedule in my two day job, which stretched into a three day job because of a slight injury to a sub-contractor, and here's where Bill Perry proved his professionalism. I was a little disappointed that Mike (the man in whom I had so much confidence) wasn't doing the work in the first place, and that in discussing the work with the sub-contractor, it had sounded like he didn't have as good a handle on the specifics of what was to be done. I had called Bill that morning to come by and take a look at the job, and to meet him in person, since I don't feel comfortable writing checks to contractors who can't find time to come meet me. Bill was came over immediately, and it just so happened that he arrived just after the sub-contractor had his injury. When I stated my concerns to Bill -- both that the job wasn't getting started fast enough for my liking, and that Mike wasn't the one doing it -- I said that if the job couldn't get started the next day I would pay him for the materials and call a different roofer to come do the job. Bill was awesome. He took in what I was saying, told me very simply that he understood where I was coming from, and, without blinking once, and in a calm and confident tone of a contractor in control, he told me the job would get done the next day, and that he just needed to check with Mike to make sure he was a go. Bill got back to me 3 hours later to inform me that Mike would be there the next morning. Not a single hitch after that. The job was done in a day and a half (as discussed at Mike's original visit), and the invoice came in for the exact price quoted. Mike and his co-worker Scott were pleasant and careful as well as efficient and knowledgeable, and I can't wait for the next rain storm. The clean-up service they used was great, too. Not a shred of debris left on the ground beneath the work area. I was very pleased with the work, and would highly recommend Perry Bros. for your next roofing job, though I also highly recommend you ask specifically for Mike to do the work, if he's available. Good luck!
Description of Work: To repair a roof leak, roofer removed poorly installed shingles along both valleys of a dormer and on dormer itself. Installed 5 feet of ice & water shield along valley, then installed new shingles over the aforementioned area, making sure the new shingles were interwoven properly to prevent leaking.

Work went well, as with most renovations of this size things took longer than expected. However in the end the results were what we were looking for. The project would have gone faster if not for delays in subcontractor we hired. There were delays based on other work that the contractor was working on at the same time. Although you can't anticipate these things one has to expect some of this on a project of this nature were all aspects of construction (plumbing, electrical, insulation, carpentry, plaster etc) are involved. Make sure you understand everything that is laid out in quotes and you know what they will be doing and more importantly what will not be done. If you are on the same page your experience will be good.

I first hired Perry Brothers Construction a year ago when I had a leak on the side of my house. I?d been noticing plaster damage on an exterior wall following heavy rain. I?d tried various ?fixes? on my own, but the interior plaster was still getting water damage each time it rained, and I was feeling exasperated. Prior to calling Perry Brothers, I had called in two other top-rated contractors who each offered varied and extreme solutions. Bill Perry, the owner of Perry Brothers, offered a solution that was far more logical and methodical. Rather than a broad, exaggerated and reactive approach, Bill took a targeted, investigative tack which was not only smarter but also more cost effective. Perry Brothers staff ultimately discovered a concealed area of severely rotted exterior trim near the area of the leak. They replaced the trim, and since doing so, I have not had any further issues. Bill even followed up to ensure that I was not having further problems with the leak. I was thrilled to tell him each time that I wasn't. Because of my initial positive experience with Perry Brothers, I asked Bill to do some additional projects for me (install custom storm windows on my attic windows, re-caulk, prime and paint the side of the house) to ensure that my house is protected from further water damage. Since my first interaction with Perry Brothers Construction, Bill Perry has quickly become my ?go-to? professional for all of my home repair/construction needs. He and the staff members I've met are all highly knowledgeable, professional, and have a notable work ethic: Perry Brothers has been on-time and on-budget for all of the jobs I've hired them for. Perry Brothers has offered me solid, practical solutions to otherwise serious problems. Overall, I trust and value Bill's experience and the quality of his work. I am no longer a nervous homeowner because I know I have a capable and trustworthy professional I can rely on for my next house-related need.

Bill Perry was informative and honest when he came to look at my bathroom and review the job. He provided multiple quotations for options I requested on doing the job (such as using a shower kit or having them custom build a new shower). When the crew arrived to being the work, they did a great job on the 5 day project. They were very knowledgeable, polite, respectful and helpful. Whenever I checked on them, they were very friendly and would happily explain what they were doing and how everything was going with the work. Anytime there were changes to the schedule, they let me know right away. The work was impeccable and everything was completed as requested. I was very impressed with the quality of work and would recommend them to others!

Bill was great to deal with. Very responsive to initial contact, easy to schedule, and punctual for our appointment. Walking through the house with him to do the estimate he was easy to talk to and extremely helpful. I have to admit I had gotten the impression from their website and other Angie's List reviews that Perry Brothers was a higher end contractor and I was not completely surprised when the estimate I received from them was substantially higher than any other estimate I received. I ultimately ended up getting estimates from five different contractors. Perry Brothers was 20% higher than the next highest estimate and well outside of our budget so we ended up going in another direction. I would definitely consider Perry Brothers for a job where we had more flexibility in our budget as I have no doubt they complete their work to the highest degree of quality.

Bill Perry was willing to work with me and my changing requirements and schedules long distance. In addition, since I ordered most of the items from Direct Buy, we did not know when they would arrive. In order to accommodate my move-in schedule from another state and the Direct Buy sporadic shipments, Bill kept in close touch with me to arrange for the work to be done at a moment's notice, in some instances. The quality of the work was awesome, the workers were exceptionally nice people, and Bill is just a great guy. It was a pleasure working with him and his crew.
Description of Work: Remodeled a condo that I purchased - long distance. I was moving from upstate NY to the Boston area. I met with Bill Perry a few days after I closed on the property. Originally, I was asking him to provide me with an estimate on remodeling the basement. As time progressed, and during other work that I was having done, I changed my mind, having to replace the bathrooms, as well as needing to have all of the rooms painted, with many walls repaired. I had the washer and dryer moved from the first floor to the basement, and had an expanded pantry built off the kitchen. He replaced two toilets, installed new vanities, one with two sinks, where there had been one. This required additional plumbing. He re-wired the lighting fixtures in the bathroom, since I had him replace the overhead vanity lights with side lights. He shaved down doors, repaired holes in walls and did an exceptional job with everything, including the painting.

It went great! Initially the estimate was to replace only the structural supports, railing and to add footings for the structural supports. When he took everything down, we discovered that a large portion of the deck was decayed, so we had Bill replace that as well for about another $10k. When I was getting estimates, Bill was VERY responsive... editing the proposal about 20 times as I came up with questions or requests. His professionalism, plus competitive prices, plus great AngiesList reviews were the reasons I chose Bill.

Dan, the supervisor Mr. Perry assigned to my work, was terrific. He kept me updated on what was being done each day. The crew that worked with him clearly respected him, and, therefore, they put forth their best effort every day. It was extremely hot the three weeks these men worked on my house, but they consistently worked hard and gave each task their best effort. Their workmanship was superior in quality.

The work done to convert a rundown garage into a cozy cottage was extensive. The project was completed on time which was crucial because a disabled person was ready to move in. Bill Perry was always available to answer our questions either on site or by phone. The outstanding craftsmanship that was obvious by the end of the project fulfilled our expectations. Thanks to Bill and his crew!
Description of Work: We had Perry Brothers Construction convert an unused two car garage into a one bedroom cottage with wheelchair access. It was a major project in that the original building was basically a shell that needed a kitchen, bathroom, and heating to be installed. There were also hardwood floors put in as well as a new roof and a cement walkway. We wanted the space to allow a lot of light in so Bill Perry designed a beautiful 8' redwood window box for the living room and added glass french doors where the garage door used to be. The kitchen had custom maple cabinets and recessed lighting that provided a warm feel to the interior.
