Once I scheduled the appointment they called at least four times to make sure the appointment was happening. The were on-time. I was expecting an inspection report and/or suggestions and analysis but both times they simply tried to sell me a system. It was presented in a bad manner and this turned me off to their service. The price, for what I received, should have been offered at no charge.
Description of Work: They have been out twice and essentially just provided an estimate for $50.

They were prompt, the presentation appeared to be very thorough and it was very extensive. The way they were gonna go about it I thought it was a bit extreme for what my needs were at the time. I left it that I would basically get back at the end of the spring to see if I still have water issues. They seem to know what they were talking about and they were very extensive, however I could not recommend them based on what I read from other people that paid $10,000 for their services. The sales person they sent was excellent.

Scheduling was 'interesting', far too many people were/are involved and my estimator, after traveling quite a distance, was left sitting in his vehicle having received a text that I cancelled (after 3-4 confirms from 3-4 people). I called the office to determine if anyone was showing up after the estimator was told to leave unbeknownst to me, and they were able to send him back. It was frustrating to both of us that he was an hour late when in fact he was early. Once our appt. commenced, I was given a thorough presentation of the company, the different issues consumers face with regard to water infiltration and basement leaks then we took a tour of my entire residence to determine source of water infiltration including all four floors even though the appt. was for basement issues. That was impressive to me. He measured the area in which work would be performed, made his best recommendation and I signed a contract for a French Drain. Unfortunately, because I live in a condo and the City of Boston Dept. of Inspectional Services was already involved (regarding HOA common area negligence affecting my unit) I had to table my Contract until the City makes their report and presents the HOA with citations. I contacted BusyDog/BTI to discuss this wrinkle, and it was effortless to get my 10% deposit returned until we are able to proceed. I do not intend to bid this job out I was that impressed with the company. It's just a matter of legalities, timing and cost accountability between the HOA and myself. Once the issues are (hopefully) resolved, I plan to regroup with BusyDog/BTI to begin the project. With regard to scheduling, Interestingly, while all this is going on, I received another call from the office wanting to reschedule my missed appt. so I have 2 recommendations to BTI: After contract and deposit appt. , a tech is sent out to verify measurements and confirmn that the best solution was chosen (2) they figure out a better way to communicate internally with the appointment staff -it is time consuming, confusing and frustrating to receive numerous confirmations which conflict with one another.
Description of Work: Met with me to determine my needs for water issues in basement. The estimator, Louis, was thorough, spend enough time with me so that I could make an educated decision about what to do next,

I made 3 appointments for them to come out and provide me an estimate. Three times the sales rep did not show up at the scheduled time. Here is what my experience was: Appointment #1 - Made an appointment for the middle of the day. Received two confirmation call (the first two days before, the second the day before) confirming the date and time of my appointment. Two hours before the appointment I got a phone call saying the guy that was supposed to come to my house was a No Show to work that day. A second appointment was scheduled. Appointment #2 - Made an appointment for the following week for 7pm in the evening, after being told that appointments can be made up until 8pm. Received two confirmation call (the first two days before, the second the day before) confirming my 5pm appointment. During both phone calls I informed the person that my appointment was at 7pm and not 5pm. Both time I was told, "Oh, yes I see that your appointment is for 7pm." I was assured both times that the sales person would show up at 7pm. On the day of the appointment the man showed up at 5pm. when I was not home. Appointment #3 - Rescheduled for a couple days later for 6pm. I was told that the representative was supposed to be in my area and that 6pm would work perfect. No one showed up or called the day of the 3rd appointment. It shouldn't be THIS hard to get a quote. I contacted a competitor. Three strikes you're out!

The provider came to my basement to smell my basement and said I needed Dehumidifier?. that was it. He did not want to hear about my problems he was in a hurry after being late 15-20. He wanted to go upstair sit and tell me about the $4000.00 Dehumidifier? and how i was going to get 20% off and what a great deal it was. He did not car or did not even look at nothing around my basement. I would not and will not recomment this company to anyone. They are into sales, nothing else. Thank god I paid only 49.00. Which was a waste of even that amount.

Horrible service. We received a huge quote and told Basement Technologies that in order to even let them come back to our property we would need to see a quote for 50%. Their customer service sent another sales person who supposedly was giving us 50% off but that sales person pitched the same sale and quoted the same amount. He then called his boss who said he could never do 50% off. It was a waste of our time.

i did not like the tone or pushiness of the salesman. I had scheduled this visit as a free estimate, and thought that by buying the Angies list deal that i would be getting additional actual services. there were none offered which i found disappointing. i am sure he could have come up with something besides a $7,000 estimate which he tried to badger me to sign.

We purchased a big deal from Angies to have Basement Technologies come into our home and complete an inspection of our basement for water issues. The company was quick to call us back once the purchase was made. An appointment was scheduled for the next week. The day of the appointment, a call was received 10 minutes prior to the arrival time informing us they would not be able to make our schedled time and needed to re-schedule. A new appointment was scheduled for the next day. On the new appointment day, a call was received by the person coming for our appointment 15 minutes after the scheduled appointment time to inform us they were running late. While on the phone the individual asked some basic questions to expedite some of the paperwork and informed me he would only need about 45 minutes to run through the assessment. The gentleman was here for over 3 hours, spent way too much time asking questions that didn't pertain to the job at hand and did not provide us with a written estimate. What he quoted was the highest estimate we received and was willing to take $ off if, we wrote a positive review, signed that day etc... He then called us back at 7:45pm on Sunday evening letting us know they were having a sale and would take another $2000 off the quote but needed to know within 24 hours. We will not be signing up for services from them. The product looked to be of good quality but their sales techiques have little to be desired,

Made appt. And service provider contacted me right away. A convenient appt. Time was given to me. On the day of the appt. My husband and I left work early as both of us were asked to be at home. We waited until 5:20 (appt. Was for 5p). And no one showed up; I then checked voice mail and there was a message from Service provider 'confirming' appt. We were not home all weekend so didn't check voice mail; we were not told that the confirmation call would be made. I called the company and was told that a manager would call me back. This call never came - a full 24 hours later.

When I moved into my home, I had basement water issues. I've had several things done to address this; a new sump with backup, an enlarged sump hole, a replaced window. But in the back of my mind, I had concerns about pooling in my back yard, and the possibility of my drainage pipe freezing in winter months. So, I opted to spend the money for the Angie's List big deal to have a professional opinion without the high pressure pitch. The company an hour beforehand to let me know the tech was going to be around 30 minutes late. He arrived within the 30 minute window, and was apologetic. Maurice, my technician, took the time to walk me around my basement, looking for things I never would have known to check for. He had some suggestions (including a battery backup), and - most importantly - was able to alleviate my concerns about drainage, explain why, and what to look for in case it ever did become an issue. It was exactly what I was looking for. My tech was professional and helpful.

The service man was knowledgeable and punctual. I have they come every year to check my system that I put in 2003-4? - I have never had a problem with them - they call the night before to tell me what time and they have always come on time and sometimes early. I have used for at least 8 years with never a problem. I have recommended them to my friends also.

I was pleased with the person who came to do the estimate for the basement waterproofing: he was punctual, pleasant, and professional. He had squeezed me in in a short time frame as I was considering buying a house with a wet basement. So I have no complaints there. I did feel a bit pressured to give a deposit for the work (the work was totally reasonably priced, compared with several other estimates I received) but I did it -- gave a $200 deposit, with the (written on the contract) guarantee that it was completely refundable should I decide not to do the work. I ended up not doing the waterproofing work and called for a refund. This is where my low grades come in. I have called 5 or 6 times since May (it is nearly September now) and have not yet received my refunded deposit. I have spoken with an actual person 3 times and a machine the other times. Twice the person with whom I spoke indicated surprise that the check hadn't gone out yet. And promised me that the check would go out that day ("you will have it by Friday," one man said-- that was about a month ago). I spoke with them again today and received the same promise. Keeping my fingers crossed. So while the estimate process was fine (of course it would be fine-- they wanted my business) contact with them since has been very poor (though the people on the phone are polite-- to be fair, everyone has been pleasant to me) and I'm extremely aggravated that I have had to hound them to get my deposit back when it is supposedly "completely refundable." So my feeling about the company is wariness (and weary-ness).

[member name removed], On behalf of management company-wide, we apologize. It is unacceptable for anyone to chase a deposit for the time you've endured. A check issued for the deposit amount was sent on Thursday. If for any reason whatsoever it does not arrive in the next few days, give us a ring and ask for Mitch. Thank you for the opportunity to serve in your quest for a basement waterproofing specialist.

I called a few companies to provide estimates on moving a sump pump to a new location and installing a battery backup. A representative from this company arrived on time, but wasn't very knowledgeable. He admitted that he had only worked for the company for a very short time. He didn't fully evaluate the basement like the other companies to explain what water damage he had seen, likely because he was so new he wouldn't know what he was even looking at. He refused to provide me with an estimate because the other home owner wasn't present. Which explains why they were repeatedly asking if I had a spouse. Their company policy is to provide a one-time quote which is valid only on that visit, so you have to buy immediately or you are out of luck. I never got an estimate from this company, and cancelled a follow up appointment because I found their pushy sales tactics to be completely unprofessional and rude. The cost should be the cost, it shouldn't vary, and any responsible homeowner isn't going to buy on a whim, they would take their time and evaluate all options. I may have given this company a chance, even if their price was higher, if they did business in a respectable manner. I ended up evaluating 2 other companies and choosing one that was slightly higher in price, but more genuine, professional and took time to thoroughly evaluate the basement without the sales pitches/schemes.

The sales woman arrived an hour late for the appointment but we were informed of this delay. She tried to sell us everything under the sun so beware of this. They used every sales tactic in the book to try to get you to sign on the day of. We fell for it and signed on for them to start work a week later. The contractors were fairly punctual or at least called us when they were running late. There has been no water in the basement since so that's good news. I don't know if we'll use them again if we get water in other parts of the basement. I didn't like their sales tactic and felt like I was getting ripped off at every point of the job BUT they did do a good job and we have no more water.

Gustave brought all sorts of testing devices that "proved" that I had hard water, but I was really interested in whether my water was contaminated or had lots of bacteria in it. He put on a good show, but I had nothing to compare it with. Although I signed a contract, I cancelled it the next day. The system was too expensive and didn't do what I wanted it to do, and I felt the hard-sell tactics were over the top. I also researched Basement Technologies on Angie's List, and although there weren't really any reviews of the water filtration part of their business (is this something new?), I saw that they received marks all over the map—and a host of Ds and Fs—for their work in basements. Lots of red flags. I decided then and there to cancel and received a call from Gustave who told me that the water filtration system business was an entirely different arm of Basement Technologies and that I shouldn't apply those reviews to him. I wasn't convinced.

[removed member name], The water filtration arm of the business is in fact an entirely separate division of the company. Our manufacturing partner is ISO certified - a commitment to the highest level of manufacturing processes, procedures and continuous improvement and our largest retail partner is Home Depot. We are committed to providing top of the line water treatment and filtration systems that exceed customer expectations from point of sale to installation and beyond. We hope that you'll consider utilizing our services for your water filtration needs some day down the road.

On 11/29/2011, my basement flooded for the second time. The water flowed into the finished basement exactly as it had done before the waterproofing system was installed. On 11/30/2011 they came to check out the system and found that the system was in working order but no water had ever run through the system-there were cobwebs in the system. They sent out someone else to analyze the system, but first the walls and floors needed to be removed. I would not allow them to do that-I had my handyman do this work. It turned out a larger grate needed to be installed under the bottom interior step. I was told at the time of the initial installation that the system should handle all flooding that comes over the basement stairs-but it did not. The 3 man team included 2 trainees that kept making mistakes (damaged the vapor barrier) that needed to be fixed. They were unskilled and were not supervised close enough. Work completed for the second time 12/14/2011. Annual maintenance was done on 12/17/2012. Again it was stated that the system is in good working order and that no water has ever been picked up by the system. On 6/11/2013, my basement flooded for the third time. The water flowed over the stairs and through the room as it had done each time. Basement Technologies sent someone to check the system out and again system working fine but no water in system, stated that to do more analysis a section of the wall will need to be removed. Currently, waiting for my handyman to remove wall. I have had 18 staff members from Basement Technologies talk to me on the phone and/or come to my house throughout this ordeal. They are not very responsive to calls and the some of the worker that came to my house were inexperienced and unprofessional. I get different stories from different Basement Technologies staff and I have to repeatedly tell them what actually happened and how it has been worked on. No one at Basement Technologies seems to be able to get to the bottom of the problem. I have no confidence they will ever be able to fix this problem. I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone. I think since the initial installation the Basement Technologies I am working with is not the Rhode Island branch but one in Needham, MA.
Description of Work: The Rhode Island Basement Technologies installed a full interior perimeter basement waterproofing system. Started the work on 10/11/2011 and completed the work on 10/14/2011. The perimeter of the basement needed to be jack hammered to create a trench to install the aqua trek system, but before that could be done the walls and floors in the finished part of the basement had to be removed. I allowed RI Basement Technologies to remove the walls and floors. They called a carpenter in to do the work and his work was sloppy and unprofessional.

I like the product and the technology Basement Technologies provides, how the place was really high for what it was. They were great but the company practices the high pressure sales where if you buy today, then you save 10%. I didn't use them because of the timing and the price. We're still doing work on the house and we're just trying to pick and choose who we're going to go forward with. I like the salesman because he was down to earth and easy to talk to. These guys are incredibly hard-sell. They know every trick in the book. It all starts with prices that are marked up too much and then quickly moves to discounts to make it feel like you're getting a deal. They want you to sign the paperwork right away, which I had told them upfront was not happening since I was going to get multiple competitive quotes. Even after their discounting, the price on their "proprietary" dehumidifier is still well beyond its value. From everything I can tell, their products are just private-label versions of the major manufacturers items available online. I found the exact same dehumidifier (based on detailed review of specs) online from another vendor for substantially less than Basement Technologies quoted it for me. Now, they don't leave me alone. I have asked to be taken off their call lists, but they still keep calling. I can't speak to quality since I didn't use them, and never would.
Description of Work: Quote was for a dehumidifier + sump pump. They would have quoted me for a full french drain system too if I had let them.

Initial consultation and preparation work went smoothly. Installation seemed to go smoothly, although in one area the metal drain cover I was shown in the brochure was not used and instead a plastic drain cover was used instead. It seems flimsy and likely to break as it as at the bottom of the basement stairs. Stay tuned for an update. The biggest problems have been: 1) The crew left a spectacular mess. Dust created from the prep work (jack hammering the floor) was not cleaned up (nor was anything draped and covered prior to work beginning). Concrete was splashed on the exterior walls of our house and exterior basement door. Left over concrete was left scattered about on the lawn and they rinsed out and dumped the large pan they mixed concrete in on the lawn. The basement floor and stairs were left dirty and muddy and construction debris were left behind. Also, no effort was made to repair a large section of lawn that was dug up - simply spreading some grass seed would have been nice. 2) There have been some problems getting paperwork I was supposed to receive, and have had multiple calls to them that have gone unanswered. We haven't had much rain yet, so it's impossible to tell if the system actually works to keep our basement from flooding. Update will follow. UPDATE: The person sent to clean-up did little more than argue with me about the fact that he did not create the mess that was left inside from the jack hammering that took place before the system was installed (apparently, Basement Technologies subcontracted this part of the job out). Highly unprofessional.
