Considerably the best experience of the gutter companies we interviewed. They came out promptly, and provided a very detailed analysis of what they thought was best and how much it would cost. They specifically asked whether we had found them via Angie's List, and volunteered a discount (which we hadn't known about) when we told them we had found them here. The actual service was quite prompt -- they actually asked if they could do the job slightly sooner, since they had a day available in their schedule. The work went quickly, and came in significantly below estimate, since they found less wood damage than I had expected. Two months on, the gutters appear to be working quite well. They are explicitly not the cheapest option (they point that out themselves), but their product appears to be very good, and they were very professional about the installation, so I think it was a good investment.
Description of Work: Replaced all gutters, plus a bit of wood fixing as needed.

Dave contacted us soon after we bought the coupon. He had a salesman to our house very quickly. The salesman was professional and personable. We ordered the gutters and the gutter shell. They only sell gutters with the shell. The salesman was very accommodating - we had some special needs - and made sure those were on the order. We were contacted about a date for installation quickly. There was some confusion about when they were coming and we never knew exactly what time they were supposed to arrive. Once here, the workers were quick and professional. They had incorrect information about our specific needs so we had to clarify. The gutters look great and, hopefully, will perform well. Despite the minor glitches, I would recommend Gutter Shell.

Overall, the job was done very well and I have had no complaints. They were in and out of this job in about two days
Description of Work: The agreement was to remove the existing gutters and downspouts on a two family home. This was not an easy or typical gutter replacement. This company had to deal with jog, coupalas, height, wind and angled terrain.

Everything went great. They replaced the gutters along the front of my home and replaced two shoddy downspouts in the back. New gutters and caps were installed around a section of my house that has a flat roof. The product is impressive and all folks involved were friendly and helpful.
Description of Work: Dave, from Gutter Shell, was very professional and knowledgeable. He responded quickly to my call, and met with me to go over their product, and offer suggestions. There was no pressure sales pitch. Dave was honest about aspects of my gutters that did not need work or replacement. The gentlemen who installed the gutters were prompt and efficient. I just experienced my first downpour and the gutters were excellent. I highly recommend Gutter Shell of New England.

We contacted David after reading the reviews on Anglie's List. He was very responsive, coming over that night to walk us through the process and give us an estimate. The installation was scheduled for nine days later, and the office called to confirm two days before. The installers arrived exactly on time. They were very professional and nice. We were very pleased. Since the install, we have been inundated with rain, and the runoff from the gutters and downspouts has been exactly as designed.

Very good experience with the gentleman who came to give us the estimate. He listened to what we wanted, explained their product and its advantages, gave us the estimate and, since we had decided to proceed, told us that he would be in contact with us within 2 weeks for the installation. We were at work during the installation (which was our choice) and were very pleasantly surprised when we got home. The product looked great and you couldn't tell the workmen had been there at all, that's how good a job they did cleaning up.

Dave from Gutter Shell was quick to respond to my inquiry and came to my house for a demo of the covered gutters and to provide an estimate. He warned me that they would be shutting down for the winter soon but he would do everything he could to take care of us before shutdown and he did. We had our new gutters within 2 weeks. On the expected day of installation, the gutters were dropped off in the morning and we were told the team would be back in the afternoon to perform the work. Turns out that their other job ran late so they came back a few days later (it was right before a long weekend) to do the work. We had decided on white gutters but when the team arrived they strongly recommended a slightly different shade to coordinate with the house & trim and they installed them in the new color. The work isn't 100% complete yet - we had discussed moving a downspout during the estimating process and that wasn't communicated down to the team but Dave has assured me it will be done once they open back up for the year. I found Dave to be very knowledgeable and professional and we are very pleased with the new gutters. I would call him again if the need arises and I recommend him and his crew.

We liked the system that they are using. We had them once for the estimate and at another time to actually install it. They were prompt. They were clean and did good work. It hasn't rained since, so I don't really know if it's working or not. It's a little too soon to tell about the quality of their work. I wanted to wait for a heavy rain to see if the gutters hold up but it looks like they will. We are happy with their service. We haven't had any problems yet. They are a little bit more expensive than their competitors as theirs is a different product.

I have used Gutter Shell Of NE on two occasions. The first was to install gutters over the garage and second was to install gutters over the entire house. The first was on 4/22/11 and latter on 8/12/11. Dave was clear in his communication and prompt in his replies to my questions. He made recommendations and provided opinions from his installation team after the jobs were surveyed. I was very happy with the results and I would recommend Gutter Shell. To date iIt has worked as advertised (clog free and we no longer have water issue).

It did not provide the service I called them for. It did not estimate the needed work to stop the gutters flooding.
Description of Work: I called on a gutter company to look at my gutters and suggest needed work to fix them. Somebody from the company came and when I showed him the back of the building and the ladder to climb on to reach the roof he told me that the building is too high (3 levels) and that they work only on gutters no higher than 40ft.

I am surprised that this person took the time to review us. When she called we had about a week wait for an appointment but i squeezed her in two days later based on the urgency in her voice, and I arrived promptly at the time I told her I would. Usually when people have a house that is extremely high they mention it on the phone. This is the first house we have not been able to do in 5 yrs based on height so we will not be changing our policy to ask people how high their house is. Anyhow it is every members right to leave a review, but i would read some from customers that we have worked on. .

The previous gutters on our house were only nailed to the house and were not covered. During the winter, ice dams formed. A large section of the gutter collapsed when another company was removing snow from the roof. A representative visited our house for a quote. We choose the advanced design that prevents leaves and nuts from entering the gutter and should prevent the weight of ice dams from being held by the gutters. We supplied a deposit of $850. We were impressed how quickly the gutters were installed. They were installed while we were at work. The existing downspouts were retained. They also did a good job of installing a rain barrel that we had purchased at a hardware store. They removed the old material. The new gutters are supposed to have mounting screws instead of nails and so should be sturdier. So far, we are happy with the performance of the gutters. They shed leaves easily. We suspect that some of the stringy debris from the trees can get into the gutters. We have not experienced a winter with the new gutters yet. The rain barrel works well. It fills with rainwater and the excess is bypassed.

Dave's crew showed up on time and spent about 2 hours total replacing the old gutters, installing new ones in their place, and finally installing the GutterShell product throughout. We were very happy with the installation and the product. We've had some pretty hard rain storms since and the gutters work perfectly! Would absolutely recommend GutterShell of New England to anyone looking to install gutter protection for their home.

It went very well. And after the first month, there was a storm and I called Dave and told him that rainwater was leaking into the home. This has never happened with the old gutter system. However, with any job that is done and paid, it is definitely easier to neglect a seemingly unsatisfied client. After a few more phone calls, I called Dave again and he finally had his guys come to check it out. Unfortunately, the guys he sent did not know what they were sent here for so I had to explain the whole situation again. They went up and took a look at the front gutters and cleared out leaves that were supposedly blocking the gutter from draining. It's a possibility. HOWEVER, if that was really the issue, rain water won't still be leaking behind the gutters and into my home even now. From start to finish, I shouldn't have listened to Angie's List. Bottom line, I would have preferred that Dave come out and inspect the work that his guys did upon completion. Based on my research on what the issue could be, it might be that a drip edge needs to be installed or the new gutter system was not installed correctly since the previous system (which worked) did not have a drip edge.
Description of Work: When I sent an inquiry to Dave Lieb at GutterShell through Angie's list, the response time was definitely a lot quicker than the other three places I sent an inquiry out to. Dave responded within 20 minutes, whereas the other places I checked out did not respond at all. Dave asked me what I was looking for, and I told him basically just a brand new gutter system. He delivered. The quote he gave me was better than a couple of contractors that had quoted me before. For just the gutters on about 120 feet of roofing, it came to be $1396 (which I thought was excellent). I opted for the GutterShell covers over the higher section of my home as I do not feel comfortable going up there. This guttershell protection was another $800, and will definitely be worth when I no longer have to go up to clean out the gutters. Overall, his crew was in and out. Very quick and painless, and they followed Dave's and my exact instructions, which was to reuse the existing downspouts to help me save on cost. I would definitely recommend them to a friend, and will definitely call them again for gutter related-type work. After a few months, the gutter system is able to handle light showers. However, with the recent heavy storms and torrential downpours, it is evident that the new gutter system put in place pales and fails in comparison to the one it replaced. Rain water is falling from the roof and dripping behind the gutters. I will not recommend and do not recommend to anyone else.

Response from Gutter Shell of New England
I hesitate to criticize homeowners but i feel in this case I must. This homeowner bought a handyman rehabbed house with plastic gutters and a new roof on that came with no drip edge. For anyone who is not familiar with what a drip edge is, its something a roofer installs to guide the water into the gutters. His system clearly was not working that is why he called me and I worked with him and his budge to cover the higher gutters. To repeat his words he has absolutely no problem with the part that he put the guttershell because it does keep the leaves out and it does act as a partial drip edge although I still recommend you get a drip edge. The regular gutters that I sold him and he didn't cover got leaves in there . I sent my guys out on a service call because he said they were not working properly , you must clean your gutters for them to work properly. I did not charge him for this service call which would have been $95. We again told him he needed a drip edge which is very inexpensive but not something that we were going to give for free since it was a roofing issue. Facts of life as any homeowner with trees knows, you can clean your gutters on monday and they can be full again on friday thats why you are reading these reviews looking for a gutter cover company. Unfortunately a customer like this sours me on selling gutters unless you are buying covers. We no longer sell gutters unless you are covering them with guttershell. david leib

We first contacted Gutter Shell in October 2010 for a replacement estimate. Our house is quite challenging with regard to any vertical or roof work because it is four full stories high, has a 7-pitch (very steep) roof, and is surrounded by water on three sides, as it sits on Boston's Inner Harbor in Nahant. That means that the site cannot, for the most part, support staging of a job from the ground unless you line up your work dates with the tides, lest the crew find themselves standing in water. In addition, the winds can be fierce. Dave came out in October and provided an estimate for a complete new system, at a fair price; we always anticipate some surcharge for the inherent safety issues. We accepted the estimate but had to delay the work until this month because our re-financing package did not close until December, well past the window of safety to work on our roof. Despite the delay and our offer to accept a more expensive bid to reflect the delay, the original bid was honored without additional charges. The first day the crew came out, they had to drop the materials and leave because the wind was so fierce it would have been extremely dangerous to let anyone up on the roof. Dave began watching the wind reports from Logan Airport (I provided a link to the weather station web site) in order to schedule our job, along with the tide charts. The crew finally came out on a day when the tide was going out, the winds were down and, but for some downspout extenders, completed the entire installation, which included installing new fascia board and painting everything to match the rest of the trim. There was one point late in the day when the tide began to turn and the crew had one man holding a ladder for another on the roof with water sloshing around his boots, but they finished the roof installation. They had not been able to work as quickly as expected because even with a light wind, the work required one man to hold the ladder each time another had to ascend or descend. The crew came out a few days later to add downspout extenders to further divert the water, as described above. We had provided an initial deposit prior to the commencement of the work and we paid the balance the day the crew finished and received a complete, detailed invoice reflecting all of the details. The crew was polite, neat, and very professional and Dave was extremely responsive to all of the odd quirks working on our house entailed, including watching the weather and the tides and suffering at least one day where the crew could not even begin the work. I have some pictures of the crew standing in the water and working on the roof and they illustrate just how difficult our house can be. Following completion of the work, a severe rain storm, accompanied by winds gusting up to 60 knots, demonstrated the integrity and effectiveness of the new system.
Description of Work: Dave and his crew, Scott, Tom, and Scott, provided estimates for a complete, new gutter system for our 19th century home, which backs up on the ocean on three sides, and then installed the system along with a few enhancements to ensure that water was diverted well away from any wooden structures or the foundation of the house.

I met Dave Lieb at a local Home Show where he demoed the GutterShell design. When I was ready I called for an estimate. Dave responded very quickly to my request for estimate. He gave me a quote, options and references, which I checked. A competitor also came but tried to close me on the spot and never followed up with a quote. I wanted the GutterShell covers because I wanted to avoid climbing a ladder to clean gutters. I also wanted to avoid having to find someone every year to clean them. I can reach the bottom gutters with a step ladder so Dave gave me the option of reducing the cost by not putting covers on the lower gutters. Because of rain, we had to reschedule the install to a date when I was away. Dave kept in touch with me and was very responsive to my questions and requests. Dave's crew did a great job and improved the original design on the day of install. They completed the job in one visit. House looks great. My mother-in-law was home at the time and watched them. She said they never stopped working until the job was complete. Site was very clean after their work. No cleanup necessary by me. I paid some premium to get the GutterShell covers but I believe that I was treated fairly and I will appreciate the investment every fall. I compared them to several other options and I feel they are superior due to design. That was confirmed by the reference accounts.
Description of Work: I had GutterShell install new gutters to entire house (1900 sq ft) and GutterShell covers to the roof gutters. Porch roofs had gutters only.

Dave from Guttershell was incredibly prompt in getting me an estimate, and while he highly recommended the more expensive product that prevents leaves from getting in the gutters (the actual "guttershell" that the company's named for), never pressured me into buying it. He gave me a time estimate of when they could perform the replacement, and then beat that estimate by 1/2 a week (so that people who came to our house July 4th didn't see our old gutters literally falling off the house). Highly recommended. I would use them again if we either decide to get the actual "guttershells" for our house, or if we need gutter cleaning.

Overall, changing gutters is going to be more costly than we thought, but certainly not as much as we were quoted. We can wait and regroup.
Description of Work: we sought an estimate to replace gutters on our two condo buldings. Service was prompt, but the estimate kept going up and up. we did receive a similar estimate from another company with, what I suspect is a better product for leaf guards/. the cost was sijpply too much from either company. i found Dave very personable, knowledgable and would have felt I was getting goood service but for the cost. we have a very nice condo, service people comment on that, and then I think the price goes up for the service! I am not kidding, this happens often, and we don't use those providers.

Terrific. Showed up on time, honest pricing. Talked me out of additional work that would have made him more money. Another estimate had me removing my entire gutter/downspout system. These guys did a great job and I am very pleased with the work. It was a little pricey, but really, what isn't pricey these days? However, I don't have to climb a ladder to clean out the leaves ever again! So it was worth it!
