Gutter Shell of New England

After receiving a quote from a local competitor, I gave gutter shell a call. They came out to quote the job and explain their product. Dave was very easy to work with, and flexible. I would highly recommend their product. I hope it helps with the ice dams that I had this past winter.

My husband and I called up and asked for Gutter Shell to come out and give us a quote. The actual owner showed up and spent a good time with us describing what Gutter Shell does and how it's different than the other gutter shields out there. He told us he has been in the gutter industry for over 20 years, and recently (within the past 5 years) moved to Gutter Shell because he believed in the product and could really stand behind what he sold. He told us how Gutter Shell was different than the competition, and what really caught our attention was how the design actually prevents ice dams from forming. Being in New England, this is something I was worried about, along with having the yearly task of cleaning the gutters out every spring and fall. He answered all our questions, was extremely personable and not pushy at all. He even encouraged us to get quotes from the other gutter companies out there and see what their product was and compare it to his. He admitted that his product was more expensive, but that it paid for the TRANSFERABLE LIFE TIME WARRANTY of the gutter - (if it ever gets clogged or breaks, they will come out and fix it free of charge) and the fact that it helped prevent ice dams. We called other guys, they were at the house for less than 15 minutes and their products were not as impressive as Gutter Shell and they did not have the same warranty or guarantee. So we went with Gutter Shell. On the day of installation, the owner showed up with two of his experienced technicians. They were quick, cleaned up after themselves, and were very courteous. It took about 4 hours for them to complete the job. Gutter Shell does what you would expect any gutter to do - move the water. The real test has come this winter with all the snow we have had this winter. I am SO HAPPY. There aren't any icicles or any trace of ice dams anywhere on our roof!!!!! My neighbors have terrible ice dams (they look like they are about to take down the entire gutter system with icicles reaching the ground from the 20 foot high roof!!). Our house is perfect, no need to rack the roof. We have nothing on our roof other than the Gutter Shell system, and they are doing the job the owner promised!!!! They are on the expensive side, but you are buying peace of mind. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM.

He was very good, professional and answered our questions but it's a little bit pricey than the other quote that we had. He's excellent in business-like matters. I would still recommend their services even if I didn't use them.

The estimate process was easy. Dave came out and explained the product, the work they do, and provided an estimate. The angie's list discount was a good bonus. My neighbor and I decided to go through with it. The installation was available early within 1-2 weeks after another local job. Installation was quick, the gutters are straight on both sides of our fairly new roof and current gutters were in decent shape. Everything appears to be working great after 4-5 storms with some leaves stills falling.

Overall the service was great. Dave was a little late for our scheduled estimate and forgot some of his marketing materials at home which is why I gave a B for professionalism and punctuality, but it was the week of the 4th of July and we didn't have anywhere we needed to be so it really wasn't a big deal. Had we been waiting to leave for vacation, my Wife would not have been very happy. Plus, he knew his product and competitors well enough that I am not sure the materials would have made much of a difference anyways. We felt that Dave gave us a very fair price in his estimate and they stuck to it. I never felt I was being upsold at any point at all. Dave insisted out downspouts were fine and did not need replacing and even I thought there were a few areas where the fascia board might need to be replaced (which would have been an additional cost), the installers insisted it was in good shape. We haven't had the product installed long enough to see how it performs under heavy rains, but I am sleeping easier knowing that my gutters shouldn't be overflowing and leaving pools of water around the perimeter of my house anymore. We have kind of an awkward colored roof so we went with the all white product, but I would recommend having the shells matched to your roof color if you have a more standard roof color, I think the product looks the best this way.

He was the man that invented gutter guards. They guarantee if there are any problems. He did come out and fix the gutter problems after some bad weather. We went through Angie's List and they gave us a very good deal. It wasn't cheap but they are guaranteed for life. They had good followup. They said they would take care of any issue with the gutters. It was expensive and it's looks ordinary so there wasn't anything special but the water will run off and the leaves won't build up. It still froze over because we had such a bad winter but it wasn't as bad as before. They were very prompt and very good. The price was expensive but it is guaranteed. It seems to be working but it wasn't as fancy as they talk about. Once we got hold of them, they gave us a date and they came on time. They were very professional once we got hold of them but it was a challenge getting hold of them.

This whole process went incredibly well. We called -- Dave came out the next day. Recommended what needed to be done and gave us two houses in the local neighborhood where his product was installed. We looked at them and were sold. Within the week, a crew was here and finished in about half a day. Crew was very professional and worked quickly. Product looks wonderful on our house -- uses our existing gutters and downspouts, but color matches our roof. You can't tell it's there -- except we won't be cleaning gutters anymore. His quote was a third of the price of a company who wanted to install big clunky gutters and downspouts.

Great experience from initial call to completion of work. Great emphasis on customer service.

David came in with an acceptable quote and beat several competitors. His crew came when scheduled did a great job installing the guards. They repaired sections of damaged gutter and repaired damage by birds.

From start to finish this company was outstanding. I had tried for 2 years to get a reasonable estimate for this work from a number of sources to no avail. Either they did not call back, did not carry the color I requested or offered me questionable information. I read the other reviews and thought that Gutter Shell seemd like a reasonable choice. From the initial phone call I was impressed; professional, responsive, solicitous to name a few superlatives. When the shipment of product was delayed, I was kept up to date on ETA of delivery and installation. The product exceeded my expectations. It almost looks like there are no gutters! Very polished appreance and they did not leave one scrap of metal behind. Highly recommend this company. Thank you!

They were excellent for get go. Steve Lumbarsky and his company was very good. The quality of the gutter is very good and the installation was great.

The company arrived in the morning as scheduled and completed the installation within three hours. There weren't any issues and the installation went very well. We have been experiencing many leaves falling from the trees this November and the guttter shells are working exactly as advertised; no leaves in the gutters :)

Excellent. Dave came out immediately and gave me an estimate. We were able to negotiate on the price and I gave him a deposit. He told me up front that they were working, I think, a few weeks out, which was OK. They came out a few weeks later while we were at work, did the job and cleaned up. The cleaned out the gutters, picked up their materials and left my house spotless.

Overall grade: C ============================================= Put on Hold and Little Accomplished with Call ============================================= I called to request for a free estimate, and I thought things were going well - until I was put on hold without an explanation. The person on the other end was courteous enough throughout the conversation, and she eventually explained that she put me on hold because she wanted to reach the line of a salesperson who could schedule the estimate. She then said that she can have a salesperson call me back to find a day/time that works. I guess this rubbed me the wrong way. My grade for them at the time was a B-. ============================================= Received Prompt Follow Up ============================================= A guy named David, who I believe is one of the firm's partner, called me within the hour. He was helpful and scheduled the free estimate. I felt better after this call. My current grade at this point is a B. ============================================= Nice Product, Wrong House - Wish He Would've Caught That ============================================= The guy arrived on time. I like the product, but it only works for roofs that allow for gutter helmets. Basically, if the edge of the roof is where your house takes in air, by putting their product over your roof, you are significantly cutting the amount of air that can flow through (especially in the winter where ice forms where the gutters are). That would spur on a host of problems if it happened. It's a code violation. Just ask a home inspector what roofs can have what gutter guards. But he's doing his job, selling his product. Can I blame him? Or perhaps I was provided false info. Grade is still a B. ============================================= No Follow Up/Proposal ============================================= I never received a quote. Wasted another hour... ************************************************************************************* UPDATE - in response to the company's response: This young lady has a lot to learn about dealing with contractors. Most people would be thrilled to have a company return her call within an hour. I personally talked with her on the phone and set the appointment and she was very demanding. Wanted a sales call on Friday afternoon at 4 30 before Labor day. I'm sorry that wasn't gonna happen, between traffic and staffing. As far as her never receiving a quote , our mode of operation is to give a written quote at the job site, as you can see from all the people that have bought from us. Steve informs me that this woman had not even moved in the house , and had sticker shock (our product is not inexpensive) so the only reason that he wouldn't have given her an estimate was if she didn't want one. We are old school, we do not mail estimates ever. You get one the day of the estimate, and then we give you a chance to buy. My final thought on her home inspector is that he knows nothing about my product. I am happy we did not do business with her, her expectations are off the wall. What I did not like initially is that the customer service rep took down my information, asked me for what I'm looking for, and then abruptly said, "Can you hold please?" ***The lack of knowledge as to why I was put on hold for a few minutes was what rubbed me the wrong way initially. I would've appreciated some transparency (explaining the process and saying why I'd need to be put on hold). When she came back on the line and said she couldn't reach the sales rep, I didn't understand why she needed to reach a sales rep and had to ask questions to understand the process (namely that the office can't schedule appointments and that one of their sales reps is responsible for doing so). It was frustrating talking to someone who assumed I knew the process and structure of their operation, and it took more time to backtrack and explain the process via questions than it would've taken to simply explain the process upfront.*** I never said I had expectation that they take a sales call/reach a sales rep on that Friday afternoon. Again, I appreciated the prompt follow up call. --- I don't appreciate the company attacking my personal preference. I was in the house the next month, but I wanted gutters to be installed prior to moving in ideally so that I don't have to deal with any construction while I'm in the house. Plus, there's visible water damage from all the rain, so regardless of whether I'm in the house, I want to protect the house from further damage. --- I spent almost an hour with the salesperson on site. After investing time and taking a day off from work, why would I decline receiving an estimate if I wanted the numbers/estimate to compare to other companies' numbers/estimate? When the salesperson left, he said he'd follow up, so I noted in my review the lack of follow up. Unfortunately, this will end up a he-said-she-said type of situation. --- I'm sure this company's product works on many houses. It just wasn't a good fit for mine. Like I said, ask a home inspector to double check if their product works for your house.

They were very knowledgeable about the product and were also very good at explaining it, which isn't always the case. They did everything they promised and very prompt and pleasant to deal with.

I called Gutter Shell because we were tired of gutter blockage issues as it seemed like you clean them one week and you need to clean them again a few weeks later. Fall is here and the huge white sap maple tree in our neighbors yard will be shedding its leaves and the gutters will be full of leaves again. Met with Dave from Gutter Shell the day after I contacted them. He called to say that he would be a few minutes late for the appointment. Understandable as he was coming through Boston at 5 PM and I had just come home from work and traffic was horrible. Dave is a really nice guy and knows is business. He showed us the gutter shell product and explained why their product worked so well. I had already done my research on the product and its comparison and liked the design and concept of the gutter shell product. Dave went out with us and looked over the gutters and where we wanted the gutter shells placed. We decided to put gutter shell on the entire house and replace leaking gutters. We knew that we would need new gutters on the front porch and decided to replace the gutters on the back addition as they were put up in two pieces. Dave was very professional and gave us his estimate and because of the footage of our gutters we took a deep breath and he offered a competitors version for less, but I liked the design and concept of the gutter shell product and felt the quality and design of the product was worth the difference. I look forward to the end result of the installation. Monday, Dave emailed me to let me know that they would be able to install the gutters and gutter shell early and would drop off the gutters on Tuesday and install on Wednesday and if that schedule worked for us. They were to start at 11 am because they had a small repair job that morning. They arrived at 9:30 am and worked through the day until the job was completed. They removed some downspout ends for me, cleaned and inspected all gutters and fascia boards and cleaned and unclogged a downspout and gutters and cleaned the whole area. The gutters and gutter shells look fabulous. When I look out the upstairs window onto the lower roof, the gutters and gutter shells are a clean, and tight fitting look. So much better than the dirty, leaf and debris filled gutter you looked over when you looked out the window. I was thrilled that they were able to come early as the tree in our neighbor's yard is being to drop its abundant...NO MOUNTAIN of leaves. It will be a relief not to have to deal with clogged gutters...NEVER AGAIN.

They showed up on time and were very efficient. They worked hard and cleaned up after themselves. I would use them in the future and would highly recommend them.

Our house is 15 years old and after years of cleaning out the gutters ourselves we decided to cover them so we wouldn't have to worry about climbing a ladder. We researched several companies and decided on Gutter Shell due to the reviews and reputation. David was very professional and curteous. His crew showed up on time and did a great job. Thus far, no issues!

Steve called me back the same day. We scheduled an appointment, which I then had to reschedule. That was no problem. Steve cam promptly on the appointed day, spent time measuring and then talking everything through with my husband and me. We decided to do the work and gave him a deposit. He said they'd have it done within two weeks, but they actually completed the work within the week. He called a few days before to say his crew would be there Friday afternoon, but they actually showed up Friday morning. Everything looks terrific ? I'm waiting for the first driving rain to see if we've solved the problem, but so far, so good!

Dave was very professional and responsive. I talked with a couple other gutter installers before meeting with him, and they didn't seem to have anywhere near as much insight and thoughtfulness regarding the job as Dave did. For example, he was very thoughtful about gutter and downspout sizing, downspout placement, and areas where we could potentially get by without shells. He was also very accommodating in finding the right solution to meet our targeted budget and was helpful in finding ways to reduce the cost. Thus far, the gutters seem to be working well and look very nice, and I haven't yet seen any sign of clogging in the gutters with shells. We are now planning to have Dave and his team install shells on the sections that we skipped previously and add gutters and shells to an additional small roof section. The cost is likely be more than you might see from other providers without shells or with cheaper shells, though with Guttershell, you'll get what seems to be a high-quality product and a clog-free guarantee. I didn't want to be dealing with clogged gutters year after year, so I think it's worth the investment.

They did good service. They showed up a bit late.

Dave came out and promptly provided a quote and gave us various options to choose from. Their quote wasn't the least expensive, but the knowledge of Dave, the quality of their product and the reviews on Angie's List sold me. The installation occurred exactly when Dave said it would, there were 2 very experienced installers at our home for 3 days - this was a very complicated project - multi-level home, lots and lots of angles - and several existing gutter joints that were already leaking. This project also required the rental of a motorized man lift (charged me only actual cost of machine) since the front of our house was at least 40' in the air and difficult to access. I waited until we had a couple of rainshowers before posting my review here - I can now report that our gutters are working perfectly (no leaks!, no more birds nests/clogs, etc), and I am extremely pleased with the quality of the installation, the appearance and quality of the products used and the professionalism of the installers. I wish I would have engaged this firm earlier. They clearly take pride in their work and firmly stand behind their product (warranty/follow up). I highly recommend Gutter Shell without reservation, and welcome anyone to come and view the project they did for us.

No complaints. The product seems to work well, if a bit on the pricey side. It would be nice if all contractors were this responsive, knowledgeable and courteous.

very professional, did all in one day. price was a little higher than some other quotes, but felt the product was well designed, so went with Gutter Shell. Am very, very happy I no longer have to clean gutters, and deal with clogs and birds' nests.
