Scott was very professional and his work product is excellent. His pricing was in line with quotes we received from other contractors. We did experience some delays in the overall project completion, but it had nothing to do with Scott. Rather, it was due to the building and plumbing inspector delaying the process. Scott was very good about keeping me informed of progress and kept after the town inspectors to ensure they inspected the project as soon as they were able to. I would highly recommend Scott.P

Overall, we were satisfied with Scott's work. His crew was friendly, they cleaned up after themselves for the most part, and they were timely in their work. We had some hold-ups with the permitting on the town's side of things, but Scott did what he could in the waiting periods in order to keep the project moving along. The project took a bit longer than anticipated, but this was mainly due to the delays caused by permitting, and some from the plumber having multiple jobs and not being able to make it out right away. It felt like at times there was some miscommunications with the subcontractors which led to me having to contact them myself. I would've preferred that this was not the case. Overall, Scott was responsive with any questions or concerns we asked, and was willing to discuss different alternatives. Anything additional that we asked him to do, he didn't hesitate to comply, and his quotes came in right where he told us they would be. We are very happy with our new kitchen.
Description of Work: We completed a complete kitchen remodel where my wife and I were responsible for the demo, flooring, painting, and tile backsplash. We had originally received a quote for the entire job, but Scott was willing to work piecemeal with us in order to keep costs low and allow us to perform some of the work we were comfortable with. Even before trimming down his responsibilities in the contract, however, Scott's quote came in lowest out of everyone we spoke with (4 contractors). He took care of the cabinet install, molding and trim around the windows, doors and tops of the cabinets, fire-proofed (and closed up) anywhere the walls were opened up to the studs, installed the appliances, and sub-contracted out the plumbing and electric. As we moved along in the project, we also asked him to completely demo and re-drywall the walls where the counter/sink was going, as during our demo they came apart in chunks while taking down the old tile backsplash. Additionally, Scott skim-coated another wall in the kitchen to smooth it out and make it paintable.

I spoke to Scott about doing my garage repair after he completed my bathroom. He had an excellent estimate on the job compared to another company I checked out. Scott came at the beginning of the week and put a key box on my back door and brought an assistant. They removed the old falling apart and crumbling plaster and examined the bottom support beam at the back of the garage. They measured for a new one and took away the debris including an old wooden ladder too heavy for me to take to the dump. Scott came back for 2 more days of wall construction and cement pouring. He then came 1 day and painted. The project took about 4 days to complete. I was very happy. Scott picks up my calls right away. He provided all the materials for this project.
Description of Work: I contracted Scott Guild to repair my garage which had a deteriorated inside wall on the back and side. He did an excellent job and the repair blends in with the old walls perfectly. I thought I would have to move everything out of the garage but he worked around the shelving, moving the essentials out of the way and covering everything. Scott added to the integrity of the cinder block foundation by filling the gaps and spaces with concrete. The garage is much more solid for the time he took with this. He also removed a rotting baseboard beam in the back and replaced it with a new one. After the walls were repaired, he painted the inside of the garage which now looks great. (I don't think it was ever painted before.) Everything was cleaned up every day and left in order. Scott has no problem working around my sometimes over friendly Labrador retriever. It was a great experience in every way and I am very happy with the results.

We had a garage that was falling apart and every other contractor advised us to scrap it and begin again. Most contractors did not notice that the floor had a root growing through it. Scott gave us a fair price to do the extra work to put a floor in and steered the process efficiently and intelligently. Our garage looks great and we are deeply thankful for the thoughtful work that Scott put in.
Description of Work: Scott repaired our garage that was rotting and we had stalled for years to get it fixed. Scott had a vision for repairing rather than tearing down the structure. He figured out how to shift the entire building to square when it had listed by several feet to the side. Then he took off all the rotten wood, re-shingled the garage and re-roofed it. He then installed a garage door and put in a new side door. He then painted the building.

I contacted another builder who wanted to rip down walls and gave me a very high estimate for renovating my 1/2 bath.Scott was more in keeping with my goals which were to simply remodel and upgrade a bathroom in a 65 year old house.I wanted the bathroom to look like it belonged in the house, using small tiles for the floor, getting a small vanity insteadof the hanging sink which was there.Scott gave me information on where to go for the fixtures and the tiles. I made my choices and purchases while he got the permits.Scott began work on a monday by removing everything. The work went smoothly and Scott co-ordinated the electricianand accomplished a great deal in a short time. I am thinking the work went on for 2 weeks with painting and redesigningthe duct below the bathroom floor to get the heating grate off the wall behind the sink.I picked out the bead board and my only thought here was that I should have researched a quality company for this butin the end with paint, the bead board blends in fine with a nice railing along the window casing. It has small imperfections here and there but it is minor and I am so happy to see this done and thrilled that it came out so well.
Description of Work: Scott assessed my old bathroom and worked within the space to make it better than I imagined. He was super responsive to my phone calls and questions. I felt like we worked together to make this happen.I wish I could post a before and after photo for this company.

An appointment was set to review work on a kitchen and an enclosed porch. The job was to include a new ceiling, new tile floor, and tile backsplash in the kitchen and a new floor and windows on the porch. Mr. Guild called the day before the appointment to reschedule and a new appointment was set. Good, things happen and he called to reschedule. He showed up on time for the new appointment on February 23rd. Also good. Although Mr. Guild asked a lot of questions about the job and took meticulous measurements, things could have gone better. We were reviewing the job when Mr. Guild received a cell phone call. He then proceeded to speak with one of his sub contractors about another job for at least ten minutes. Once the call was over we reviewed my job some more and things seemed to be back on track. Then normal small talk evolved into a sermon about Mr. Guild's philosophy about the American diet, health, and aging. He bragged about how successful he was as he owned several planes and boats. (I couldn't help thinking about an Angie's List review that mentioned unrelated conversation) My cues to end this talk were unsuccessful (guess I was too subtle) so this went on for some time. Still it was an amusing story until the next time I heard from Mr. Guild. On March 14th he left messages on my home and work phones. While he did apologize for not getting in touch sooner I was not pleased with his messages. The reason - Mr. Guild stated he didn't want to be a fact checker against other contractors. He also stated that it took a lot of time and effort to put together a proposal so if I wasn't serious about hiring him he'd rather not draw one up. What?????? Maybe if I had signed up for Mr. Guild's philosophy of life he wouldn't feel this way. Oh well that's not going to happen and it shouldn't be part of a business deal. Mr. Guild wanted to know if I still want him to put something together. That would be a no.

After I had the site surveyed, Scott Guild took care of the permit which we received in July. Demolition did not take long for the old structure. Then the hole needed to be dug for the new concrete foundation. The garage is built into a slope so the digging we extensive. The excavation took a long time and the man with the backhoe apparently had numerous jobs. So this part of the job took an extremely long time with days, even weeks, in between work being done and a huge mountain of dirt consuming my small back yard. You never knew when or if the laborers would show up. There was little or no warning and sometimes Scott would say they would be there the next week and then they would not show up. Scott's explanation was that the price was so low that we were getting the subcontractors when they had breaks in their other jobs. Gradually over the months the garage was built. All told it took 4 months. I have to say that the quality is quite excellent and the final structure is everything we hoped it would be. The choices in materials are top notch. All the carpenters and subcontractors were very nice, polite and professional. During the process I admit that I became very frustrated at the amount of time in between progress getting made but I am very happy with the end result. I would use Scott Guild again in the future, but would want an end date on the contract.

The first project was the bathroom remodel which was done in a timely fashion with beautiful results. Scott did an amazing job on the shower tile work. Next was storm damage from the ice dams last winter followed by our decision to put new gutters up and add heat cables.
Description of Work: Scott has done three projects for us, including a remodeled bathroom, storm repair and new gutters with thermal cables. He is professional, responsible and reasonable. We trust him and have been very pleased with his work. We found him here at Angie's List.

We were very pleased with Scott and all of the work. He was very thorough in taking notes in our initial meeting and provided the estimate promptly. His services were very reasonable and we were very happy with the finished product. He was always responsive and easy to get a hold of. He was able to offer expertise and advice when we had questions. Everyone who worked on the job was neat and professional. We would definitely work with him again on other projects.

We were kind of disappointed. When we met him, he was fine. He was a little late and didn't call. I ended up calling him but he did show up. The estimate was handwritten. It was a mess. It was hard to read and understand. We liked talking with him and he was professional but when we got the estimate we decided not to use him because the estimate was just a mess. He was a very nice guy and had some good ideas but the proposal was very unprofessional.

Scott contacted me shortly after I emailed him via Angie's List to come and discuss our project. He was punctual and very precise in taking a lot of measurements. He researched the items we wanted to use in the renovation and came back to us with his handwritten quote in the course of less than a week. Although we decided to go with a different contractor, Scott was very professional and responsive.

We got four estimates from Angies List contractors. Scott Guild gave a reasonable line-item estimate for the work, but was flexible with allowing us to purchase tiles, fixtures, and vanity on our own which resulted in a significant cost savings. Overall, Scott and his subs did a great job and provided high quality work. They were also very responsive to our questions and requests, and Scott was open to sharing suggestions on ways we could save money when shopping around and he was very mindful of our budget. Scott was incredibly knowledgeable with working on an old house (built in 1925), was on-site personally working many of the days, and was very honest and reliable throughout this process. We would not hesitate to hire him again for our next project and are thankful we have found a great general contractor.

I located Guild Construction through Angies List, and I called to get and estimate. Scott Guild arrived as agreed to look at the work needed in order to write up an estimate. Upon selecting Guild for my projects and agreeing on a start date, Guild's workmen arrived on time and completed their work. They gave me good advice and explained what they were doing when I asked. The workmen were knowledgeable, competent, and affable.
Description of Work: Guild's workmen removed the following: dry rotted old basement carpet, damaged 12 ft. X 3 ft. section of drywall, and 2 or 3 sections of exterior clap board. The workmen sprayed inside cement wall and boards with a mold preventer, installed new insulation and drywall in basement, taped, sealed, and primed the wall section repaired. The crew added hydraulic cement to basement bulkhead floor. The crew repaired the exterior by adding new clap board on top of new backing and aluminum flashing. The crew cleaned anbd added stain to the rear wood deck.

Scott was very detailed on the scope of work for our project. From the onset he indicated since load bearing walls were being removed, he needed to bring in a structural engineer. Scott did the job right the first time, as stuctural support was needed in the basement, and first floor. I have no hesitation in using him for any future projects.

The small sunroom had only an eighteen-inch dirt crawl space beneath the floor. In order to install the bathroom, the contractor had to cut a large hole in the concrete basement wall to accommodate all services. The walls, ceiling, and floor were completely demolished. As indicated, this was a major undertaking. The whole job was very professionally done. The demolition work, the carpentry work, the brick work, the tile work, the plumbing work, the electrical work, and the painting were all of the highest quality. After the job was done, a few very small details needed fixing. This work was done immediately. We decided some of the work originally scheduled was not needed so the contractor deducted that amount from the final payment. We asked that some additional work, not covered by the original contract, be done. This additional work was done at a very reasonable price. As an indication of how satisfied we are with the Guild Construction Company, we have asked the company to repair our roof and kitchen floor. This company deserves its excellent reputation.

We had taken out the wood stove and they did all the walls around it. The owner of the company would work here a few hours a day and then his workers would take over. He would stop by at the end of each day to check on them. They tore down the plaster and replaced it and put in new insulation. It took them about a week to complete. The price was fair. The owner was very responsive and it looks good.

This has been awful. The contractor said they would have somebody here to supervise the work and that has not been the case. My husband asked that if somebody can’t come would there be back up and he said yes, but that has not happened. Many times he’s said he’s coming and doesn’t show up and doesn’t call. The thing that gets me too is when something is done wrong and he has to fix it, he wants to charge extra! It’s not our fault, it’s his mistake and he wants us to pay. I’ve had it with him. I am at the end of my rope. I wouldn't recommend this company.
Description of Work: We hired him to gut out the kitchen, back hall, laundry room and ½ of our bathroom. He’s supposed to put in ceramic tile floors in the bathroom and laundry room. He’s supposed to put a ceramic tile backsplash in our kitchen. He’s supposed to put under lighting in our kitchen. He’s also supposed to remove an exterior vent from where an old stove used to be and fix and paint the siding. He also needs to fix and paint the siding from where the new window goes in. He was to do all new electrical. He was also to build out into the garage through our laundry room a washer/dryer closet. He was to remove an exterior door and put in an awning window. He was to remove two non-bearing walls. He was going to replace and paint the exterior siding where the door was removed and the window was put in. He was taking the door from the wash room to the garage and moving it over to make room for the washer and dryer closet. He was also moving the stairs and landing to accommodate where the new door was. He was to add heat in the wash room and in the kitchen. Where the door used to be from the bathroom he was going to put baseboard heat. He was also to put baseboard heat in the kitchen and washroom. He is supposed to put in a custom made garden window that I already have in the kitchen to replace that window. He’s supposed to sand, stain and feather the floor from the den and the kitchen, he’s laid it, but not finished it. They are supposed to paint my den, kitchen, washroom, ½ bath and dining room. They did electrical in my ceiling, but they need to do it where my peninsula and island are going to be. We are having issues with the molding. There isn’t supposed to be molding in the kitchen except where my cabinets are and they are putting molding up. He is supposed to put in secondary locks in the door that goes to the garage from the washroom and the door that goes from the basement to the garage as well.
