It didn't. Planned to hire him But he was so unprofessional after giving the quote. And on further inspection of his reviews on Angies List under different categories there were several very very scary bad reviews. Seemed to match with the experience I was having 4 months after he gave a quote. Long story. Stay away. His quote may be enticing but ...

Excellent. I was able to reach Scott Guild on the phone on my first attempt. He offered to come out the following day and fix my problem. He was great and I had him back again a week later to fix two additional problems. He is prompt, courteous, reliable, and reasonably priced. I will definitely have him back again for further work and highly recommend him!!!!!

Scott has done a lot of work for us (on our house) previously in 2013 and we've been very happy with their work. So, when we wanted our deck to be fixed, it was a no brainer to give Scott a call again. Our deck was falling apart and we wanted to get it ready for the summer (and also for a large back yard party we were hosting during the beginning of the summer). Scott did a careful assessment of the deck and came up with a proposal that made very good sense - to keep most of the foundation / base of the deck (by fixing it and securing with additional beams and re enforcing areas that were falling apart) and replacing the decking with new modern Trex deckings. Scott (and his colleague John) - were aware of getting our deck ready for the party and they made sure that it was ready before the party. Masonry work was also completed well and on time and within budget. We enthusiastically recommend Scott and John!

Excellent. No complaints. The construction crew was on time everyday, neat cleaning up after each day working and did a fantastic job on time and under budget. Crew was very friendly and respected the property they were working on. I have recommended Scott Guild work a number of times to business associated and friends. I don't think there is any job to big or to small that Scott can't do.

First of all, we are completely in love with the results and enjoy our new space! We spent a lot of time planning the space with Scott and it shows. Scott is very careful and meticulous with his work. He had a lot of good ideas for the space, as well as suppliers to use for kitchen cabinets and countertops. It was a big job and took some time (3.5 months), although maybe not more than you necessarily expect for a complete gut of the back end of a house built in the 1870s. It has a lot of "history," meaning there are lots of little things hiding where you can't see them (like asbestos)! There was only one hiccup (and one that added some extra time): the original plumber backed out of the job last minute, but he was able to find someone else who did a terrific job. Overall, an A+ job and would most highly recommend Scott's services!
Description of Work: Our kitchen, dining room, and "mud room" were converted into a single living area. This involved a complete inside gut-job with reframed ceilings, a new roof above the old mud room, new kitchen cabinets, new lighting, new island, and new flooring. An enclosed laundry area was also added. The half bathroom was expanded into a full bathroom with the addition of a corner shower unit.

We first hired Scott to complete a renovation of a three season porch off our dining room. It took a little time to get him out to get the job started, but once he was in the house the job was completed in under two weeks. He has an amazing mind for construction and architecture. From the structural elements down to the detail work, he thought of everything. All I had to do was give some insight into what our thoughts were for the room and he made it a reality. A few months later we re-hired him to do a larger renovation of and addition to our kitchen and to convert an unfinished space into a bedroom and bathroom. He started work on this job immediately. He worked very well with the town and was able to secure permits and begin work quickly. He was incredibly responsible and met every town requirement. The building inspector told us at the final inspection that he was very impressed with Scott's overall knowledge of all aspects of a project this size. Scott and I met together several times to discuss the plans for the project and he was willing to listen to and meet all of our needs. As with the first project, the result of this renovation is better than I could have imagined. Scott was on-site everyday and does much of the work himself. Scott hires reliable and competent subcontractors. He has one steady employee, John, who has a similar work ethic. They both see the job through to the very last detail. My family and I could not be happier with what they did for us and look forward to working with them again in the future. One other thing to note, which is unrelated to the actual work product, is that they are a calm presence in the house. As a family we felt very comfortable having them in our space. Any renovation comes with the obvious disruptions, but Scott and John do nothing but make it an easy and enjoyable experience. They take pride in their work and it shows at every level.

The situation started out great. Scott (the owner) was on time and very informative about the whole renovation. However, once the work started, it was all downhill. It took 4 days (instead of the promised 2), he was between 30 min- 2 hours late each time he came and I had to constantly overview the work. The new wall did not end up plum at all (it bows in the center) and the corners are not at all square. The wood floor in my kitchen was cut when the molding was removed (he did end up filling them with wood filler after i refused to pay until it was addressed). The door was hung too high (he had to remove the molding and adjust it- again, after refusing to pay until fixed). Note that all these issues I had to point out. I was extremely surprised by the quality of work given the amazing reviews on this site. It wasn't until the work was done and I looked back that I realized that the positive reviews were for his subcontractors and the majority of the negative reviews related specifically to his work. Bottom line- this company apparently does amazing work so long as the work is preformed by subcontractors. Again, Scott was super nice but I was not at all impressed by the quality of his work.
Description of Work: First he provided a quote for a major renovation we had planned for the second floor and a smaller project for the first floor. To start we hired him for the smaller kitchen project- to install a pocket door and build a simple 2x4 wall to divide my office closet into a two parts- a smaller closet and pantry for my kitchen.

Mr. Guild was the general contractor for our 203K project through Wells Fargo. His prices and work were generally reasonable and timely. Unfortunately, there were two issues. First, he should have known, because of the contract he signed with the bank and because we explained it to him more than once, that payment for the project was being issued directly from the bank. Yet, he repeatedly insisted that we were trying not to pay him. He called several times a day, to the point of harassment. He went as far as taking a piece of mail (a birthday card) from our mailbox when we weren't home, looking up the family who sent the card, and calling them to inquire as to our whereabouts and indicate that we owed him money. Obviously this family called to tell us about the phone call. I was mortified and more than a little unsettled by his behavior. Even after this incident, he showed up at our house asking to be paid, and on a different date, entered the house through and unlocked door. Additionally, Mr. Guild's sub-contracted electrician wired our upstairs incorrectly. I had a 220 line installed in one room and 110s in all the other rooms. He mistakenly installed a 220 in a second room, then covered it w/ a 110 switch plate. We blew out a shop vac and a box fan before we figured out what the problem was. The electrician did come back and repair the job. It's unfortunate that Mr. Guild's social skills get in the way of his business. Had it not been for the mail incident, we would have hired him again.

After we signed a contract with him it took some time to get the project going, but once it did they worked very quickly, 2 weeks, start to completely finished. The space is a beautiful, seamless extension off our dining room. He understand exactly what we were looking for and in several different ways guided us to even better options that were in keeping with our budget. The most impressive aspect of working with them was their demeanor. They are a very calm, quiet, respectful group and even though our space was compromised for a short time it was surprisingly undisruptive. We would certainly hire him again and have already had him take measurements for another project!
Description of Work: We had Scott and his team convert a 3 season porch into an insulated room off our dining room. Scott came out quickly and took measurements and gave us a very reasonable estimate.

We bought multifamily home and wanted to converted to single family. Scott is one of the three contractors I received quote from. His was the most detailed and very reasonably priced, After agreeing upon Scott and John started work and finished significant amount of demolition followed by construction in first two weeks. At this point the work was halted due to missing calculation of LVL beam and was resumed after 4 weeks after the inspection by town home inspector. Our only gripe is about this lost time this should have been anticipated and work should have been scheduled accordingly. Once the LVL inspection was done rest of the work was done in about two weeks that included wiring/plumbing (subcontractor) floor installation(5' by 4'), stair railing installation and two windows installation. Scott and John are very knowledgeable about general contracting. Scott was very responsive and always returned calls on time. Quality of work was quite good and price was very reasonable. Most important of all, during this work was going on I was working other part of home and their advise on lot of things was invaluable for me being first time home owner. Over all this was very positive experience and will hire them again for future work.

We live in a house that was built in the 1950s. We did an addition in 2003, but now were looking to reconfigure, update our kitchen and add living space in the basement below the addition along with a bathroom there. Plus, the older basement and the laundry area needed finishing. It was a big project. I talked to 4-5 contractors before deciding on Scott. Scott returned my call promptly and when he came over he went over the various aspects of the project and we felt at ease with him. He spent a lot of time and took detailed measurements and gave us an estimate that was broken down into reasonable tasks and sub-tasks. Scott worked with us to figure out how to make the project fall within our budget. Plus, he worked with us in adding and removing the tasks that we wanted others (painting, carpeting) to do for us instead. Scott is hardworking and efficient. Scott's colleague John is also a great worker. They were punctual and I could call them pretty much anytime and they returned calls promptly. Both Scott and John worked diligently on the project. We had to get this project done by a certain time since we were going to have guests over and they made sure that the project got done before that. They were friendly, courteous and we had conversations with them about a lot of different things. It was interesting to find that they are multi-talented and have several other interests and hobbies (Scott flies planes, keeps bees .. while John has been trained as a musician!). John also fixed strings of my daughter's guitar! I highly recommend them and their services.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. What happened was we asked them to give us a markup with our bathroom. It was a $99 special for kitchen and bathroom design. What he did was give us a quote and where he would put everything and it was hand drawn. That was like a complete waste of money. I will never do that again. I really think that's what he thought that he was going to be doing because all he did was basically give us a quote which we had quotes for the bathroom and we just wanted to know what would the bathroom look like with tile in a certain way and that was what we were looking for. Maybe we didn't communicate it well which was possible but it was definitely not what we thought we were going to get and I will never do that again. He was a very nice guy. Maybe he thought that was what he was supposed to do but that was not what I thought I was paying for. We really thought we were going to get a bathroom design. It was a communication issue which at that point could have been between us, Angie's List and the gentleman who came but we really thought we were getting a bathroom design and what we got was a price quote. I figured I will never do this again. I would never ask for somebody to come in to give me a design. I will just go to one of the box stores and ask them to mark it up for me because paying somebody to do it was like a waste of my time and my money. He was very professional when he came to the house, he walked in, did his measurements, and sends his drawing in the mail. He was very punctual, he came exactly on time. It definitely took a while for him to get back to us.
Description of Work: Guild Construction Co. came in, looked around the bathroom, sent us a hand drawing and everything was going to be in the same spot, and gave us a quote on how much it will cost for him to do it.

I called the company and told them that I had purchased the deal. It was not until six weeks later that the company finally called me to see what project I needed to have done. They told me the project would only take a few days, but it took far longer. Upon arriving for the job, the company acted very professional and helpful at first. However, we had many delays for no apparent reason; the job took over three weeks. His electrical sub-contractor also shut off A/C in attic for some reason. Once it got hot, I hired an A/C company to fix my air conditioning. As it turned out, he was only able to tell me that the switch was shut off. It cost me an additional $212 just to find out that the electrician had turned off a switch. At one point it even seemed that Guild Construction no longer wanted to do the job; they hardly ever showed up to do the work. When the work was finally finished, they sent me a bill for around $1,100. I sent in the payment for the difference and attached the coupon I had purchased from Angie's List. He called me and told me that I had cheated him and under paid him. He is now telling me that he will not accept the offer that I had already paid for. Prior to him calling me and telling me that he would not honor the deal, I had given him a B grade with Angie's List. Now, I am revising my my review to reflect his disrespectful and fraudlent attempts to overcharge me by not honoring the previous deal.

Purchased the Big Deal on 4/15 and had to place a couple calls and emails before I received a response from the contractor Scott Guild. Once we had a date, Scott dropped off the primed moldings and I was able to paint them before installation. Scott called me at 7:30am that morning of the scheduled installation to confirm the work. He showed up with another contractor and they installed the molding that day and left. While we were filling in the nails holes with filler and caulking the gaps, I noticed the molding was installed upside down. I called and emailed Scott to ask if he was aware that the molding was installed upsidedown; unfortunately - there was no and quot;goodand quot; answer since a) if he knew then that is was installed upsidedown and left the work that way, you need to question his integrity or b) if this experience contractor did not even know it was upside down, you would have to question his skills. After a few days, I got an email asking when he could come back and turn the molding rightsideup. After questioning if this was a viable option, Scott told me in a rather dismissive manner he could fix it. It took another few days before he confirmed a date to return and fix it. When he did not show up I called him around 10am that morning. He told me they were on their way and showed up about an hour+ later. They took down the molding and then Scott came to tell me that there was some damage to the ceiling and suggested a wider crown molding be installed that could be put over the damaged area. He left and came back with the new molding. They started setting up the molding to paint it and wanted to set a date to come back and install it after the paint dried. Given the challenges I have had with communicating and coordinating schedules with Scott, I asked him to proceed to install the molding and I could then paint it after it is up which would be far easier than trying to coordinate and clear out the master for a third time so they can put the molding up. They proceeded to put the molding up. As they were finishing up, my son called me into the kitchen and showed me there was water dripping through the kitchen ceiling. I ran upstairs to the Master bathroom. There were footprints of water leading from the bathroom to the bedroom. The master bath toilet had been plugged and water had been running over the edge and there was feces floating in the bowl. Scott denied using the toilet but noone but he and his contractor had been in the bathroom. He offered to plunge the bowl. If he had simply shut-off the water on the toilet , it would not have damaged my kitchen ceiling. How could an experience contractor not know that water was flowing over the edge of a toilet and not think to shut off the water? And then to deny any responsibility when there was noone else in the area? Clearly not someone I can trust to do work. They packed up their truck and left without any word or even letting me know they were done. After they left I looked at what they had done. There were two main joints showing where the pieces of molding met that were very poorly done - one was filled with an inch or so of caulking to remedy a point cut and with the other, the seams did not lie flat. I have since tried to fill and sand and molding looks ok - certainly not the quality work you can recommend to others. And more importantly - between having the original installed upsidedown and the new damage to my kitchen ceiling, this is not much of a BIG DEAL in the end.
Description of Work: Purchased $199 Big Deal for installation of crown molding for a master bedroom which involved purchasing the crown molding, dropping it at my house in advance for painting, and cutting and installation of the crown molding in a square 18'x13' master bedroom. Potential to lead to additional work.

I had them scheduled between 6:00 and 6:30 to come out because at that point in time I needed him out there to look at the place when it was still daylight, but he didn't show up until almost 8:00. I never received anything from him and just because he was so late it set me off. He was also asking me to call the city regarding permit questions that he had and I basically said wasn't that a job he should be doing. I just felt that when I told him that there were other people bidding on this project he just completely lost interest. I would tell anybody who uses him to make sure that he's punctual and on time.
Description of Work: Guild Construction came out to give me a bid for an unattached garage that had burned down.

They were prompt, and they seemed very knowledgeable in all aspects of the project. We got the estimate two days later. The guy was really prompt, and we really appreciate it. Their service price was in line with some other quotes that we have gotten. I would say it was high but reasonable.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Guild Construction for a small bathroom renovation.
