Overall, Dave and his small crew is very fast, punctual and his work is good. He took it upon himself to fix minor things and I did not notice or realized. His work and attention to details is quite good.
Description of Work: Renovated half of my kitchen - removed old tires, replace with wood floors, removed 6 old cabinets, replaced with 4 new ones, rebuilt a soffit, minor electrical work and finally framed a garage door in my garage.

I requested information via Angie's List and Dave responded right away. We set up a time for him to come out to my home to give me a quote. He was extremely helpful on the telephone about letting me know about the permit process and getting a plot plan, etc. He was very prompt and professional when he visited my home and returned a quote to me quickly. I did not use him for my project as the cost was a bit higher than I was looking to pay. However, I will certainly contact him again for future projects I may have.

My experience with Dave was excellent! He was friendly, understood and executed the job to my satisfaction. He'll be my first point of contact for carpentry jobs.
Description of Work: Modified existing woodwork to create more space.
It went very smoothly. I contacted Dave about mid October about doing the bathroom. He responded the next day. We met later the same week and I had the estimate the day after we met. Dave made a suggestion of where to look for vanities and I took him up on it and got exactly what I wanted. It took about six weeks to choose and collect all the materials that I would need for the project. Dave and his assistant, Joe started the Monday after Thanksgiving and the bathroom was completely finished in a week. Had the vanity been ready it would have been sooner. He works from the moment he shows up until he leaves and that is after he leaves the work area neatly picked up. The following was what he did; Remove tile walls and ceiling in tub area and tile floor,Keep tub in place, add new customer supplies wall and floor tile.Swap shower valve trim plates and spline valve.Add new backer board for shower walls and floor.Stablize sub floorSwap toilet, double vanity, exhaust fan, lighting ,remove wall paper, patch walls as needed, paint as neededRemove all debris .Customer to supply tiles (wall and floor) ,toilet, vanity and top, faucets, lighting, exhaust fan medicine cabinets,Simmons shower valve. Paint. He finished promptly and on quote. I should also mention that Dave and his crew repaired my deck the summer of 2011 as well. He actually did a few more things on the deck without changing his original quote. I had a quote from another contractor who tried to convince me to replace the deck for 6000.00 dollars. Dave did exactly what was needed for 4500.00 dollars less. I will have Dave and crew do some outdoor carpentry for me again this spring.

We called at least 6 "A" rated contractors. Only 2 actually showed up to give us a quote. Dave was the only one that returned my calls without me constantly bugging him. All the other contractors were too busy to take any small jobs, i guess. He provided the quote within a week as he promised. Then he said he probably would start our job after a month in sept. Sure enough, without us reminding him, he called in sept. And schedule the date. He showed on time with his helper. Finished everything on time. The quality of work is excellent. They cleaned up after and recycled all the cardboard. I was very impressed. We will definitely use them again for our next job.

Dave was great. He fit us in fairly quickly after providing an estimate and was very good about adjusting for a couple of changes we wanted to make. He showed up on time and was able to get the job done in one day. We are very happy with the way the front porch looks and would certainly recommend Dave.

Dave was easy to deal with. He was flexible about scheduling a time to come out for the estimate, he showed up on time and was friendly and responsive to questions. The estimate he provided was not as detailed as some others you may see but it was clear and provided quickly. Regarding costs, of the estimates we got Renaissance was not the highest but they were on the higher end. We ultimately went with another contractor but would gladly consider Renaissance again for any future projects of our own and recommend him to anyone else.
Description of Work: I contacted Dave at Renaissance Carpentry as one of several contractors I sought out for an estimate on several repairs at my new home. We needed someone to replace a significant amount of cedar shake siding, replace a deck in poor condition, replace several window sills and replace a section of rotted sill in the basement.

As always Dave did a fabulous job. The work was done in a timely fashion, they cleaned up at the end of every day (a huge plus), and the work itself was exactly what I asked for and beautiful when it was finished! And I've always found Dave to be extremely ethical and professional. If he thinks something won't work, he says so and suggests a reasonable alternative, which I really appreciate. (And a few times this resulted in Dave not making as much money as he could have.) Simply put, Renaissance Carpentry is a superb outfit that does top notch work.
Description of Work: Wanted a built-in dishwasher. This required the requisite plumbing, electrics, and tearing out the below-counter cabinets and replacing and finishing them, and installing a new counter top. Also in April I had my upper cabinet doors removed and the cabinets themselves rebuilt and finished.

After calling over 10 "A" rated service providers, Dave from Renaissance Carpentry was one of only three to follow up and provide a proposal for our project. The proposal process went smoothly and, in line with the other providers who came to bid on the job, turned a proposal around in less than a week. Compared to the other two who bid on the project, Dave provided a proposal which was most in line with what I had asked for (of the other two, one added on some unnecessary electrical work and substituted a less well regarded material for the decking and the other came in with a bid $10,000 higher). The proposal from Renaissance was the lowest bid as well. I typically don't go with the lowest bidder, but considering that all the proposals were from well regarded service providers on Angie's List and that Dave actually listened to what I asked for, I felt it was the right choice. Now that the job is complete, I feel like this was a "win win"...I saved money and the results were wonderful. After answering some questions I had on the proposal, I accepted the bid and shortlisted the project. At this point Dave let us know where we stood in his backlog of jobs and provided an approximate start date in mid July. In early July, a day or two before I had intended to follow up, Dave got back in touch with me to confirm his expected start within a day or two. As the start date rolled around, the communication became more frequent and work finally started on July 23 -- just as Dave had predicted (mid to late July) back in May. Once the work began, Dave and his crew of 1-2 others were on site every day. They worked through heat and rain (cutting wood under a popup tent in my front yard) until the job was done. They cleaned up at the end of each day and confirmed with me that they could store some larger items like ladders alongside the house. These guys are hard workers and Dave manages the crew well. On some days they were pushing 13 hours, to keep the project on schedule. The end result is terrific and was completed in 6 business days, even given a couple of small tweaks and changes I made along the way (picture frame decking layout and some specific requests on downspout routing). All my neighbors have complemented me on the end result as well as Dave on his work ethic. The original estimate was $16000, revised to $16300 before start of work due to material price increases. The remainder of the "overage" was due to the inclusion of picture frame deck layout (change order from me), and 9 extra hours spent digging out our old footings which were essentially a pile of boulders and concrete in the ground.
Description of Work: The project was to replace a decaying two story covered porch on the front of our house with a similar structure. The work included tear down and removal of the old structure, installation of three new footings in place of the old inadequate footings, and building of the new porch and balcony level under an existing roof. The second level was a floating deck on top of a rubber roof. The decking and finish trim work was all done using Azek composite (PVC) materials and Azek railing system. The structure has roughly an 85 sq ft footprint and three steps from grade to the first level.

Dave was very responsive and professional. Dave kept me informed of his schedule and started the job when he said he would. When Dave started the job he and his team arrived on time, were very neat, cleaned up before they left everyday and left my garage cleaner then is was when he started, Thanks!!! Dave made a point to tell me he only works one job at a time which I was pleased to hear as we've had work done before by contractors who are working multiple jobs which drags out the job. Dave's work is flawless, I highly recommend him and will for sure call on him for other jobs.

The job was completed quickly, to our full satisfaction and at a competitive price. I met with 3 contractorsduring the Holiday break in order to beat the onslaught of competing projects once the weather turned nice. One contractor was eliminated since he wanted to turn the project into something more than we wanted. My wife and I have a 1910 colonial and are very focused on restoration to its full original glory as opposed to modernizing. Dave listens well to customer preferences. Also, we felt most comfortable dialoging with him and so accepted Renaissance among 2 close quotes. One concession I was willing too make to modern times was using composite materials but was concerned about the additional cost. On my request, Dave kindly broke the quote out with 100% wood vs composite. Good for us the composite was not too much higher and so we went with that. White for trim and grey for decking which matches nicely the rest of the house stucco exterior. In mid-March we scheduled the job for a few days out and then got hit with a late snow storm. I expected Dave to ask to reschedule but he and his team bundled up and knocked the job out in 2 days. Fortunately, most of the snow had melted but was was chilly out & was glad myself to be indoors. We were also very happy to have it done since my wife's parents arrived for a visit a few days later. We had recently purchased this home and the wood stairs and decking was about to give out and did not create an ideal first impression. Dave also communicated well throughout. We're very pleased with the quality of workmanship, e.g., cuts are smooth and even. We're very happy we went with Renaissance and the composite materials. It has a very tidy cosmetic appearance and feels solid under the feet. I'm equally pleased that I won't have to spend time each spring doing paint touch ups to delay the inevitable replacement a few years out that comes with wood.
Description of Work: Replacement of patio decking, flashing, risers, floor joists under decking using composite materials for all non-structural elements. Original hand rail and columns supporting patio roof were in fine condition and so out of scope of work requested.

We hired Renaissance Carpentry to fix wood trim in a room that our puppy had destroyed while he was teething. Since it was the first time we hired a contractor for our home I was very inquisitive and required a fair amount of explanation. I probably sent over a dozen emails throughout the process. David at Renaissance Carpentry was very responsive and thorough, worked within our schedule , delivered exactly what was promised and on budget. I would recommend and hire Renaissance Carpentry in the future without a doubt.
Description of Work: The work done included: replacement of a brand new door, 4.5door casings, 2 window aprons, 2 window sills, 10 linear ft of 4.5" baseboard, 1 side jamb to closet door and 1 transition strip @ the top of our front steps. He also stained and polyurethaned the newly installed wood. The brunt of the work was done in all one day and there was no trace of any debris left behind.

It was a very positive experience with them. They really are very very good at what they do, good people, good workman. They are a five star outfit and they are affordable too. They show up on time, ready for work, they do their work very efficiently and they make sure that we are aware when they are doing something that they wanted on a review of it when they finish and that we are pleased with the work they have done. They are very interactive and pleasant to make sure services were performed up to our expectations and according to their schedule of activities here that we signed off on as we engage them. They give us a written outline of what they planned to do and what the fee is going to be to do that and then they come back with that and have a signed off. They walk you through when they are done at the job to make sure you are satisfied before they leave. We have recommended them to my daughter and she had the same experience with them. They are very customer focused. We would continue to use them.
Description of Work: We have used Renaissance Carpentry in September. They did some work outside the house in tram of the house and they did some electrical work inside for basically repairs and replaced a gate and fence.

Excellent response when we asked for a bid. First to respond and get a bid to us. When we gave the go-ahead he had other jobs booked so there was a 2-3 week lead time. He had some time open up so he jumped right on the job within a few days. Had the whole thing done in less than a week. I think it would have been a day or so shorter if the inspector could have come out. The site was cleaned up each day and everyone involved was extremely professional at all times, even when my 3 and 7 year old sons were asking a ton of questions. Next time I need work done I'm calling Dave first.

My wife and I decided to add a skylight as part of our bathroom remodel. We called Dave Parsons at Renaissance Carpentry since he had done an exceptional job on some of our previous renovations (skylights, deck, window repair). Dave responded promptly and came over to look at the job the next day. He and his son showed up early on the day of the installation and, after getting set up, immediately started cutting the rough opening from the inside. There was blown-in insulation there, which involved considerable clean-up efforts before he continued with the framing and skylight installation After the skylight was set in place, Dave reinsulated the areas beside the frame and finished the interior areas with sheetrock and joint compound. He then came back the next day to sand and do the second coat of joint compound. Overall, we found Dave to be highly knowledgeable, responsive, efficient and generally a pleasure to deal with. That the new skylight came through Hurricane Sandy 3 days later with absolutely no issues attests to the quality of his work. We plan on using him again during the remainder of our bathroom renovation.
Description of Work: A new 21" by 26" venting skylight was installed in a bathroom having a cathedral ceiling. A rough opening was cut in the sheetrock from below, and the blown-in insulation from that space removed. The skylight was more than one rafter-bay wide, so on of the rafters had to be cut and new headers installed as part of the framing process. The skylight was then installed in the newly framed opening, while reusing the shingles from the cutout to cover the flashing. The interior was then finished with drywall/joint compound.

They came out within a week of the estimate and finished the job for less than what it was originally estimated to cost. It wasn't easy getting up to the rafter - space was tight. But they did it and and also provided additional reinforcing of the rafter so it's as good, if not better, than new. I will definitely be calling Dave again for future projects.

I found Dave on Angie's List and sent him pictures of the deck over email. He responded very quickly and asked some questions. He then gave me an a rough estimate before he came out and took a look. He then gave me an final quote and the work started shortly after. The new railings took about a day and a half and then he came back a 3rd day to install 3 gates to keep our kids in.
