+ -1 moreThey didn’t charge me separately for the removal of the old boiler, which a lot of other companies would have done. I had a hard time communicating with the office: the service took a while to get scheduled, and then there was a mix-up on the day they were supposed to come out. The crew, however, was great to work with. During the work, they made sure that I was never without heat. When they found any problems, they cleared them up quickly.
Description of Work: They installed a boiler and converted the system from oil to gas.

+ 0 moreWe’ve used them for years, even after moving to a new town! They’re very customer-service oriented. They train their employees to a certain standard and the employees are all very professional. For example, they always take their shoes off before entering the home. I know I can call them back if something isn’t to my satisfaction, so they really stand behind their work. We’ve called them with emergency situations and sometimes they let us know if we should call someone else for their expertise.
Description of Work: They’ve done heating work and repaired various plumbing issues, including leaks and septic tank problems that we’ve had.

+ 0 moreWe couldn't have been happier with the work. Our problem had been that the 1st floor was warm while the 2nd floor stayed cold. This was solved immediately after the work was done. All rooms on the 2nd floor are now able to be heated comfortable and independently of the 1st floor. Also, the minor plumbing repairs were done well and quickly. It did not take long to schedule the job. Work was started 2 business days after we returned the signed quote and accepted the job. Rob Basnett did the work himself with one co-worker. They were professional, respectful, efficient, and highly qualified. The work was done thoroughly and well. They were very clean and left no messes behind. They explained to us exactly what they were doing and how the system operated after it was changed. Basnett will be our go-to company from now on for all heating, cooling, and plumbing needs. We couldn't recommend them any more highly.
Description of Work: Our home uses forced air for heating and cooling. The house is over 3000 square feet, yet had only one zone for heating/cooling. Rob Basnett, the owner of Basnett Plumbing & Heating, was very thorough in his evaluation of our home and our heating/cooling needs. He measured each room, assessed the air flow we were getting, calculated the air flow we needed, calculated the capabilities of our furnace, and came back with a series of recommendations. His thorough evaluation made us very comfortable in trusting him to fix our system. He presented the options for fixing our system as a series of choices, almost like a menu. We could do A, A+B, A+B+C, A+C, etc., according to our desires and how much we were able to spend. He gave us the pros and cons of each option. Because of the size of the job, he came once to evaluate and a 2nd time to explain the options, then sent us an email with the costs of each option. We had 2 other companies evaluate our heating system and none were as thorough. They also did not present us with as many options and their costs were higher, across the board. In the end, we had our duct work split into 2 heating zones, with a new thermostat installed to control the new 2nd zone. We also had some flexible ductwork replaced with rigid ductwork in our attic. We could have chosen to add some return air ducts and a fancier thermostat system, but opted to not do this work for now. Perhaps in the future. Since the company also does basic plumbing, we had some basic repairs completed while they were on-site working on the heating system. These included a leaky pipe, a leaky faucet, and balancing a poorly-installed washing machine.

+ -1 moreCalled Basnett Plumbing and Heating on a Friday morning and told them that my bathtub hot/cold water valve was malfunctioning. The woman on the line said that a technician would be at my house within the hour (about a 15 minute drive). Two technicians arrived in about 20-minutes. ( It turns out that the senior technician was training the other one.) They diagnosed the problem in less than 5-minutes to be a wornout valve stem, and they said they would replace the diverter stem as well because if the primary stem is wornout then the diverter stem is ready to also fail.. They then went out into their truck and phoned the home office to obtain a quote of $400 that also included their total round trip half hour travel time and 5 minute diagnosis time. I asked them for an overall labor/parts breakout for their quote, and they told them that they could not provide this information. For some reason at that moment I suffered an attack of foolisness and instead of persisting in my attempt to obtain a labor/parts breakout I agreed to the $400 number. They adequately completed the job and were gone from my house in less than half an hour. I found out later that the parts that they replaced can be purchased for less than $50. I consider this to be a real rip-off and would never recommend Basnett to anyone whoes friendship I desired to maintain.
Description of Work: Technician replaced the valve stems in a malfunctioning bathtub hot/cold water Symmons control valve and applied a little caulk around the spout.

+ 0 moreThe laundry work was fine. The drain was better for about a week. When they came back to fix it, all they did was put some heavy duty drain cleaner down and charged me a second time ($161). This was also only a temporary fix. I lived with it for a while using only one side of the sink and eventually called another plumbing company, asking him to also put a new cartridge in the filter. This plumber permanently fixed it. All the sink needed was a good plunging with more strength than I could use. It cleared and has been fine. When he went to change the cartridge on the filter, Basnett had never put a turn off on the pipe and the only way to cut the water under the sink was to turn off the whole house. The new plumber put in the turn off so now I can change the cartridge myself when it needs to be done. I don't think Basnett is interested in small household jobs. They put much more time into giving me an estimate on adding a zone to my heating system. They charged a second time for something they didn't fix the first time claiming the paperwork had never documented the drain problem.
Description of Work: I had this company perform several small jobs after moving into my home: remove the old washer and dryer and install mine, switching from all electric to gas, replacing an under-sink pipe and installing an under-sink water filter in the kitchen double sink. I described a slow drain in one side of the kitchen sink that made it impossible to use.

+ -1 moreMy furnace made a funny noise for a couple of days, then died. I called Basnett Plumbing and they got someone there, and fixed the problem, the same day. The technicians were very professional: polite, efficient, showed up on time, got the job done. I don't have a basis for comparison, so I don't know if the price was good or bad - it seemed reasonable for replacing a motor, given the labor involved. I also can't fully vouch for the quality, since it's only been one day, but I have every reason to believe that it was a good job.
Description of Work: They replaced the blower motor in my nat-gas forced-air furnace, and also replaced a heat sensor (sorry, I don't know the technical term) that had been "blown" by heat buildup due to the motor failure.

+ -1 moreShower temperature was not fixed or the fix failed when we next used it. Called them out to re-repair, and they essentially charged us twice for the same repair. They say that they tried to adjust the temperature on the first trip, and replaced the stem on the second trip. If they had replaced the stem on the first trip, they wouldn't have had to make a second!

+ -1 moreThe office sales people were responsive and knowledgeable. I called the office on a Sunday and two plumbers arrived as scheduled on Monday. They did not have the original heater tank size in stock so we agreed to a larger size. Two plumbers performed the installation in about an hour, professional and courteous. My only complaint was the price. I thought the price which was for labor only was very high.
Description of Work: Replaced 66 gal. electric water heater with 88 gal. Original unit was under warranty.

+ -1 moreService person was very courteous, helpful, and prompt. Actually arrived 10 minutes early for appointment. Gave excellent explanations of service, answered all my questions, warned me about the risks of rooting very old pipes before trying anything. (Nothing bad happened, drain rooted just fine and now works perfectly.) Explained extended service plan, but did not give me the "hard sell." However, I found out that the price of the service is more than double what other plumbers in the area charge for drain cleaning. I didn't call around to get quotes first because I made a mistake. I thought that Basnett was the plumbing company I had dealt with before and trusted. It was actually Campbell. So, even though the service was good and the plumber competent, I would NOT recommend them again, unless you research competitive quotes very carefully.
Description of Work: Rooted a clogged bathtub and cleaned out the bathroom sink drain.

Description of Work: I ASKED THEM TO CONNECT A GAS STOVE TOP AND RUN THE GAS LINE TO DO SO. THEY GAVE AN ESTIMATE OF $475. I AM VERY IRRITATED THAT I HAD TO PAY $49 FOR THEIR COMING OVER EVEN THOUGH I DID NOT HAVE THEM TO THE WORK. THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN A PRICE RANGE OF THE COST TO DO THE WORK BEFORE HAND! THIS WAS AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT FOR A JOB THAT TOOK AN HOUR TO DO.

I BET THEY'D HAVE CHARGED JUST TO PULL UP AT MY DOOR. THEY WERE ON TIME, VERY POLITE, BUT ABSURDLY EXPENSIVE. I HAVEN'T BEEN OUT TO CHECK THE FAUCETS YET. I'M AFRAID TO TOUCH THEM NOW.
