Description of Work: Jim Bresnahan came out to give us an estimate and I was impressed with the fact he explained exactly how he would build the front steps that we were looking for. They kept the area clean, constructed the steps as they said they would in a timely manner. They front steps are beautiful. We will be having him come back to do more work in our yard next spring.

Description of Work: repointed brick work around outside bulkhead (cellarway) to stop water leaking. Had to rebuild portions of the outside wall and stairwell. I am no expert about masonry but I do know we continued to have leakage. It may have just been the lack of a good seal on the bulkhead door which they did not build. Mostly I think they did a serviceable job. Two things--clean up outside was not thorough and he ended up asking for more money than had originally been discussed by email. When I showed him the email, he accepted that the agreed upon price would be fine.

very professional and reasonably priced. mr bresnahan was very responsive. sometimes we have to give the business owners a chance to get thru the responses to their ad before they get to you.because there are so many responses to their ads. in this case it was well worth waiting as he did a great job and was very helpful with tips for other things

Schedule was worked out mutually agreeable. The price, very reasonable for the work of a "professional bricklayer", the quality was excellent. The clean up of mortal dust created from the electric tool did require some work by the homeowner. I would hire this company again, and probably will, on additional projects.
Description of Work: A large brick set of steps, from a French door exit, was heavily damaged from water freeze and thaw conditions. Were many crumbling mortar joints, and poor repair job by a handyman 5 years ago. Celtic Masonry painstakingly removed all the weakened mortar joints, removed and reset a brick course to properly direct water flow outward. All prepared brick joints were re-mortared in a professional manner, far superior to handyman or homeowner prior work. Additionally, a tuck point minor repairs were made to a 2nd set of brick steps.

Jim Bresnahan contacted me very shortly after I made the Angie's List purchase and scheduled an appointment to meet with me and discuss the work that I wanted to have done. He arrived on schedule and we discussed the work that I had in mind, which involved making repairs to the foundation of my 100+ year-old house as well as a retaining wall in my back yard. He was very thorough in inspecting the foundation inside and out, and asked me questions about any issues with flooding. I explained to him concerns that I had based on advice from an exterminator about rodents getting into the house through cracks in the foundation, and he responded to my questions in a clear manner. He collected my contact information and within two weeks, emailed me a detailed estimate complete with photos that he'd taken during the initial visit. I accepted the estimate and we scheduled a date for him to begin the work about a week afterward. He arrived on time with his assistant and the work was completed within two days. When heavy rain delayed the second day of work, Jim contacted me promptly to re-schedule a mutually convenient time to complete the job. All in all, I was very happy with the work and grateful that it was completed so quickly from my initial contact. I felt confident that Jim was honest about what needed to be done and that his estimate was more than fair. Since I know nothing about this kind of work, I appreciated that he was attentive and responsive to my questions as well as courteous and easy to talk to. I would recommend Celtic Masonry based on a very positive experience.

I bought an Angie's list coupon for four hours of masonry work and contacted Jim Bresnahan of Celtic Masonry to repair some steps that were damaged. Jim arrived the following Monday on time and took a look at the job. I liked talking to Jim and felt he was very good at what he does, so I asked him to quote on additional work, including patching some unfortunate work done by another 'mason' and repairing some cracks in the stucco covering the foundation. He pointed out that the gap between the house and the walkway should be caulked, so I asked him to quote that as well. Jim emailed the quote in a few days and agreed to start the work the following week. On the appointed day he showed up on time and proceeded to prepare the surface for repair. This involved a lot of widening the breaks with a concrete cutting blade, scoring the surface, etc. The cracks in the stucco ware opened and were actually much worse than it had seemed, and the overall scope of the work was beyond what I had envisioned. This all took place on the hottest day of the year! The actual repair work commenced a couple of days later, an all day affair of mixing concrete, patching the steps and walkway, pointing the cracks, etc.. He also built up one of the repaired areas to pitch away from the house to avoid water seepage, a problem from the way the walkway was originally constructed, something his trained eye caught immediately. Jim used a bonding agent to ensure the patches would last. Finally, on the third day Jim came back to caulk the gap between the house and walkway, using backer rod then applying the special caulk. Jim also patched a couple of spots in the general area that were in need of work but had not been discussed. Although the job was bigger and took longer than originally estimated, Jim did not revise his quote. I paid a bit more than what was quoted because I do want to keep Jim as a resource and to do some additional work in the future, but it was still probably less than what he could have/should have charged. Overall I found Jim to be friendly, honest, knowledgeable, and quite skilled in his craft. He did not take any shortcuts, but instead went out of his way to do the job the right way, and he went above and beyond in his completeness and attention to detail. I know that anyone who hires Jim will be very happy they did so.

Response from Celtic Masonry
I have responded to every customer who contacted me. [member name removed] assumes that it my responsibility to contact him. I have received over 30 inquiries since July 5 and have done my best to schedule a site visit, give a honest estimate of the job, scheduling, and completing jobs in timely manner. I would gladly reimburse [member name removed] his $119 than have him damage my reputation.

Was fast and easy.
Description of Work: We had a chimney on a recently purchased house that we were told was unusable and needed to be replaced. Another company gave us an estimate of roughly 10,000.00 for this work. Richard from Celtic did a through check and clean for us of the chimney, and showed us that the chimney was fine. it just needed a thorough check and cleaning, some work on the spark arrester at the top and a lesson on proper flu cover handling and lighting. We've used the fireplace this winter and its great. Absolutely no problems.
