Excellent! I shopped around with about 4 sanding companies before settling on RC Hardwood Floors. I learned that there are two kinds of companies, the wham bam done in a day companies that only apply 2 coats of urethane, and the quality refinishers that do 3-4 coats. RC Hardwood Floors falls in that second category. While he wasn't the cheapest of all the estimates I got, he was the least expensive of the quality refinishers I talked to, and did one more coat then all the others. Richard accommodated my tight schedule to get the floors done before we moved in to house, started on time and always got back to me when I had questions. Its clear he takes pride in his work and wants the floors to be done right. He was meticulous with the sanding, removing the rows of nail marks that the previous refinishing company apparently didn't bother to remove. In the end my wife, myself, and my parents were very pleased and impressed with his work. He and his partner work very hard and we found them working until 7 or 8pm on one day just because he knew we were short on time. See the picture below for a before and after picture. The boards on the left are the stair tread that was replaced, and you can see the refinished floor to the right of that. The picture really doesn't do the floor justice, but you can see they look so much better after Richard's work.

We could not have asked for a better experience. Richard responded to our request for a quote, visited our home and emailed us a quote within 48 hours of our first phone call to him. He communicates both by email and phone, which makes it easy to keep the process moving. His work was exquisite. He was neat, professional and attentive to detail. Because we had to do our project in two phases (move all furniture to one side of of the house, sand and finish the other section and then reverse the process), he advised us on the best way to divide up the project and how to move the furniture back to the newly finished floors without damaging them. The floors look brand new (the house is 45 years old). Before we started, we worried that we would not be able to remove the brown stain along the edge of the room without either gouging the trim board or leaving a narrow brown outline around the edge. You would never know the floor was ever stained dark brown and there was not a a single gouge on the entire floor or trim board. Richard's pricing was extremely reasonable, particularly in light of his use of 4 coats of poly (versus the standard 3). That one extra coat makes a world of difference and I would highly recommend it.

Wood was delivered 1 week prior to scheduled start date to acclimate. Work started 1 day later than expected. Did great job laying floor, ends but beautifully to baseboard and under door casings, no nails noticeable, boards tight, took 2 half days to lay floor. Polyurethane applied over 3 days, 1 coat/day, then sheen coat on final day. Fumes were strong but weather allowed opening windows. Richard & Michael work well as team; work done quickly, efficiently, and result looks wonderful. I used an Angie's list 10% off coupon which made the price even better than original quote which was very competitive.

Overall, Richard (and Michael) did a great job. The floors look amazing and I'm so pleased every time that I walk into the house. The project start was delayed by two days, but that was the only glitch.

Richard returned my first call within 24 hours and came by to give me an estimate. He was professional and friendly and was willing to do the work within the week to accommodate my schedule. He came when he said he would and did a terrific job. Much to my surprise there was very little dust as a result of the sanding. (He had told me he had a dustless system.) He did all the work promptly and professionally, consulting me on the desired number of coats and the type of finish I wanted. He offered his opinion only when asked and deferred to my wishes. Both floors look like new and have given my home a wonderful new feel! Richard estimated the price for me at $800 for both rooms and came in right on target. Which was $150 less than the next highest bid.

Very please with the process and the outcome of the job. Richard answered the initial message promptly, gave a rough estimate over the phone, visited the site promptly and gave a firm estimate at that time. Was always prompt and professional. He sanded the existing floors and applied 4 coats of oil-based polyurethane. In addition, he filled several nail holes and repaired one loose board. The floors, including stairs and closets, look absolutely great. No sanding marks or visible streaking in the finish. Really flawless work. Quote was right in the range of 2 out of 3 other bids, and much lower than 1 out of 3. Was the only one who offered to do 4 coats. Only quibble is that he left two contractor bags of sanding dust at the premises as well as an empty can of finish.

Richard did an excellent job at repairing and refinishing this floor, including flawlessly blending this floor with dining room floor at the junction.

We could not have made a better investment in our home than refinishing our hardwood floors before we moved in. The floors look gorgeous, the kitchen floor is now water-impermeable, and the two ugly pet stains in the dining room have miraculously disappeared. Rich was punctual, professional, and did a great job. He even removed the drawer under the oven, so that that wood was refinished there as well. The floors look brand new and we could not be happier with both the floors and Rich's work.

The work was very good and since another job prevented him from getting to us as planned, he worked Saturday and Sunday to meet our timeline. Very satisfied. Our children enjoyed his singing which was quite loud to rise over the machinery.
