They sold me an additional $400 of service I don't believe I needed. He smooth talked me into buying it, but in retrospect I didn't have any problems with the door before. NO, I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT HIRE THEM AGAIN.

Precision Door sent a great guy to a**** the situation and give us a solution. he very kindly fixed the door temporarily for free so we could use it. he suggested that we really needed a new door rather than doing a full fix since the door was old. We ordered a door that looked like it would match and they gave us a time frame of about two weeks. In 2 weeks they called and we scheduled the install of the new door. The install went well and it works great now. Everyone was professional and courteous. They quoted a fair price, arrived on time and rather quickly completed the install. We have another door that will need to be replaced in awhile and will definitely call Precision Door to do the job.
Description of Work: We had a garage door that was having difficulty opening and that someone had backed into and dented the outside of the door. They fixed the door temporarily until they could order a new door to install.

Dear [member name removed], Thank you very much for your business and comments. We appreciate the fact that most customers want to fix things as inexpensively as possible. It is our policy to do exactly what the customer wants, but to also be honest with them and to explain exactly what is happening with their garage door. In your case, replacing your door was the right thing to do. We would have gladly serviced your door knowing that you would be calling us back over and over again as the door's parts were wearing out and given the damage. In the long run we would have made more money as eventually you would have had to replace the door. Part of our customer service policy is to help minimize future costs by making sure the doors are properly adjusted, balanced and in safe working order. This helps both our businesses reputation and drives repeat business. Again thanks for your business and please call us again. Walt (Owner)

The technician, Rick, came promptly the day I called and had the needed parts on his truck. He said that he owned the franchise for this area. He told us that we needed to sign a contract and pay for the work before he could begin. He quoted the price as $1266. Both my husband and I thought that very expensive and I asked why it was so high. He said that the price was competitive and that we could call others if we chose but if he had to come back he would have to charge us $79.for the 2nd service call. Of course this would be added to his price. Groan...we proceeded. I could not believe how quickly the fix was accomplished. And how few parts were needed. The next day I did call and got 2 other quotes. One for $400 for both doors and one for $300 for both doors. When we called the company to complain we were treated rudely and the receptionist kept stressing that we did sign the contract. Ah yes...a fool and his money! So buyer beware. We found out later that thy had quite a reputation in this area

(removed member name), Thank you very much for your business. As you mentioned your door was original to your house (built in 1958). Not only were the springs broken, but all the parts to your counter balance system was original as well. To make sure you were happy with our service, to make the door work properly and to make sure it operated safely we recommended rebuilding (replacing the worn parts) the door's mechanical parts. The door itself was in good shape so we didn't feel replacing it was the right move. Your door required very large springs to lift it; the torsion tube was bent and all the parts with ball bearings were severely warn (they did there job for over 50 years!). In addition we replaced your bottom weather seal to help reduce the draft (energy loss). And, please don't forget we gave you a 7 year warranty -- new doors typically come with a 1 to 2 year warranty). This is what you can expect from Precision Door -- honest evaluations and recommendations and superior warranty and customer service. All at what we believe to be at a great value. Again, thanks for your business -- Walt (Owner)

When he first came up, my garage door was making a lot of noise as we open and close it. One of the rollers come out of the track. He made some adjustments so it was back on track. The problem seem to be fixed but in a few days it was back again. I called them, they came back and this time replaced the roller completely. The problem was fixed. I was pleased with the service. I guess if they had replaced the roller the first time, it wouldn't require the second trip. On the other hand, they did quickly respond when I called back and said the problem was back again. I think the price was fair.

To be fair I do need to say that we did recommend fixing several issues that was causing the roller to pop out (while at the customer's house the first visit). They refused our recommendation. The fact that the roller popped out again shouldn't be seen as a lack of quality, but a reluctance by the customer to solve the problem.

A representative first came to give us an estimate. He was there exactly when the company projected and I had the estimate before he left. The doors had to be ordered and when they came in, I received a phone call to schedule the installation. We needed them to come on a Saturday and they were able to accomodate us. Again, they came when promised, they installed the doors, took away the old doors, and cleaned up nicely after themselves. The doors have been working nicely ever since. They did suggest we also purchase their openers which I thought were too pricey so we declined and they reinstalled our old openers. They are working just fine as well.

It went well. On time, quickly found the problems and fixed them.
Description of Work: Both garage door openers needed service, neither would close properly. Duane from Precision found that both doors had a number of worn parts that would eventually fail. On one door the spring was almost worn out. But Duane said there was no need to replace them at this time. One door had a dirty sensor that Duane cleaned. The other had a 35 year old opener with a broken gear in it. Parts aren't available for it anymore so it had to be replaced. Duane was on time, found what was wrong and fixed it. He didn't try to sell us on the replacing the door parts, just told us to keep an eye on them. The opener had to be replaced, that was easy to see. He went though all the operations with the new opener and also set up the home link in our car for it. Overall a great experience.

Technician replaced my pulleys and springs. Service was good and prompt, but prices were so ridiculously inflated. Called the day after the repair to get a quote on getting a new door installed. Received a quote back but turned out that what I paid for pulleys and a couple springs was half the price of a brand new door. They also said they would get back to me with another quote to see if they could do something and I have not heard anything. Instead I found another service that could have repaird my door for less than half the price and gave me a great deal on a brand new door. I feel that I was scammed, I told the technician up front that I wanted it done as cheaply as possible yet he kept going back and forth playing with the numbers. Wish I had realized that at the time and just said NO. I retracted my recommendation for this company to my association where I live. Would never use again and would never recommend.

They were good. I did like them. I saw them working on my neighbor's garage door when the power went out across the street. They replaced their garage door, and I eventually had them come over here. They were very professional and awesome guys. They gave me free suggestions. They were more money than basically anybody else but I felt like it was worth it. They had a door in like 3 days and they stuck to it. They said they would come back if there were any problems. They went above and beyond. They wanted to do extra work because I didn’t have electrical. They were talking about just getting the electrical put in and putting in the electric garage door. In the end they were up-selling a little bit but they were not pushy about it. They offered to do that thing if I wanted them to. I don’t anticipate having to replace my garage door anytime within the next decade. They are likely to last probably 2 decades. They might need to come and service it. If I end up getting the electricity put out in my garage, we will have them come back and install the electric door opener. It was almost twice as much as the other company that we had hired. They did a really good job and they communicated with me and they were honest. They said they were more expensive but they would take out the hardware that comes with the garage door and then replace it with good quality stuff so that I don’t have to see them again. This stuff would last whereas the other stuff really won't. They said that they understood it was more money but it was worth it. They told me to feel free to look around and if I wanted to use that to give them a call or if I didn't want to use that then that was fine. They were great top to bottom. The sales people who I talked to were good. They came right over and measured my door. I had an opening at that time and they came right over because it was just across the street. They measured it and they gave me some options and basically did a sales person's job. I had everything taken out by the time they arrived. The installers were spectacular. I was happy to have a good experience.

They never installed the door correctly and I have had to pay again and again to have it fixed.
Description of Work: We needed a new opener and garage door. The guy that installed it left the old parts and trash in our driveway for months. They installed over 7 years ago and evey year, at least once, we would have to pay $79 for some mechanical failure. Finally in 11/2011, the service man said it was never installed correctly and we had to pay another $500 for a new opener. I have asked the manager several time for some type of refund because the door was never installed correctly. Back and forth with her (the manager) and never any money back. Beware of this company!

Precision door repaired our garage door sensor. They came within one day of our calling to schedule an appointment, and fixed the problem quickly. We have used them several times in the past, including to install our garage door system. They are excellent, and their prices are reasonable. They are professional, and schedule appointments quickly. I highly recommend this company for garage door installations and repairs. Previously, we used another company that was also very good but took much longer to schedule appointments (within a week, rather than the following day). The main reason we switched to Precision was that we preferred working with a company that could come within 24 hours for urgent service calls.

The remotes for our 2 garage door openers work only intermittently. Most of the time the frequency seems blocked. I called in the afternoon and was told a technician would arrive between 3 and 7 pm. Not only was it possible to schedule an appointment on the same day, but also the technician arrived within an hour of my call, at 3 or so. The scheduler also mentioned a $79.00 charge to come out. The technician was very professional and confirmed that the frequency was probably being blocked by one of the local network providers. He added a small unit to each Liftmaster, which enabled a new frequency to be used to open the doors. We ordered an extra remote (3 total). The technician was done in less than a half-hour. We really appreciated the excellent service. The cost is presumed to be competitive. Would recommend and use this company again.

I looked them up in the Yellow Pages and called them up and they came out. They wanted to sell me two new garage door openers and install them for $500 apiece for them. Then they wanted to do an overhaul on each garage door to replace the rollers, cable, drums and torsion springs that are on the axle that runs up against the garage door bulkhead at the front of the garage. They are not the kind of springs that stretch out, they twist. He wanted $700 to do all that. The total was $2400 for all that. I said I will pay you for a $60 service call and I'll think about the rest of it. Well, I started researching. I knew about the garage door opener costs. The door opener he was going to replace I can buy at Lowes, and I did, for $200. He was going to charge me $300 to install it. It took me about an hour to do it. So it was way overpriced and then he tried to tell me there is $400 or $500 worth of parts in each door's overhaul and I started researching those and pricing them out. Even with replacing the springs I couldn't come up with $200 with the parts. Any competent garage door person it would take about an hour to replace the springs and maybe another hour to replace all the rest of the stuff. Even if it took them 3 hours of work on each door so 6 hours of labor and $200 of parts and he wanted $700 for all that so I called them back and said no. They lowered the price but I still said no. I will not use them again in the future.

Response from Precision Door Service
The Member is correct; you can buy a garage door opener from Lowes and/or Home Depot for about $230. However, they are consumer model -- we provide the professional model. The store bought opener also comes with a multi-piece rail that fits a 7’ door – he needed a longer rail which if you can buy from Lowes would cost another $70 to $80. Lowes also charges $99 to have the opener installed – the subcontractor that Lowes provides also typically charges extra to remove and dispose of the old opener. The warranty for those openers are 1 year. Our openers come with a single piece rail and a lifetime warranty on the motor and a 5-year warranty on the electronics (because we provide a manufacturer’s surge protector – which costs another $45 retail). By my math the price difference on the opener is now below $50 vs. the store bought opener. We also arrive at your house with the opener in our trucks saving you the gas and time of having to go buy it. For that extra $50 we provide you 5 times the warranty (vs. the warranty provided the store) and a single point of contact should there be any issues with the opener. What the member failed to tell you was that his opener was having issues because his springs were incapable of lifting his door. That is why we suggested an overhaul. Without replacing his springs the member's new opener would have failed within 6 to 18 months. The member's house was built in 1988 – do you think he ever did any work on his garage doors? Our inspection suggested that very little if any maintenance had been done to his door over the years. You can’t expect a “moving wall” to function forever without providing routine maintenance. Again the member researched garage door hardware at Lowes and/or cheap web sites. The hardware prices he quoted above come with 90 day to 1 year warranty. The parts we offered to supply all came with 7-year parts & labor warranties. We did offer the member a discount when he called us back – we routinely offer coupons in Valpak and run various promotions throughout the year. We offered to extend him a discount based on our current coupon. I’m sorry that the member felt our services were too expensive, but I feel he didn’t represent an accurate picture of what transpired. Also I would caution the member in thinking that the cheapest option is the best – you usually do get what you pay for.

This firm charges to provide estimates, then proposes work that doesn't need to be completed. Found them on the web. $79 just to come out to do an estimate, then estimated over $400 for work to be done looking to get a signature right away to do work. I declined to go ahead with work but had to shell out $79. I then called another company with good ratings on Angie's List and they came over to look at the door (for free) and ended up fixing it in 5 minutes for free and said we didn't need any additional work that had been proposed. Another reminder to not trust companies that charge for estimates. I would strongly recommend that everyone avoid all Precision Door franchises based on my experiences.

On two occassions they were late arriving for a scheduled appointment, but they were otherwise responsive. The team lead or foreman was a little rough on the apprentice verbally which was the cause for the professionalism score. Price was very good considering it was custom, but the quality of the material ie., finish, alignment was not perfect accounting for the quality score. Overall though I thought the experience went very well.

Came promptly and seemed very knowledgeable. Price was higher than expected (hence a "B" in that category). Bought the warranty which was wise as a minor part failed within a few months (hence a "B" in that category), but they came promptly and fixed it as covered by the warranty. The opener is whisper-quiet and we love it. We felt good about their service and work. We reached this company through an 800 number and don't know whether we had a Newton-based crew or not.

They came out to fix our garage door which was making a scraping noise. When the tech got here, he diagnosed the problem quickly. Then he pointed out all the other things wrong with my door, some of which were legit some of which I question to this day if they really needed replacement. He did the job well, but I really felt like I was getting a major up-sell job. There really was no pressure, but they were REALLY expensive for what they did. And, they only stand behind their work more than 90 days unless I opted for a completely un-necessary door rebuild.
