I didn’t engage them for the job. The person who came down seemed pretty competent and knowledgeable. Their quote was a little bit on the higher side. The quote was around $3000. My friends did recommend them. If they are reasonable, then I might go with them.

We had a very hard time getting any plumbing outfit to take on this job. We need replacement of main stack plus moving some plumbing, plus installing new sinks, a water heater, two new washers and dishwashers. We had 12 or so come out and actually had some walk-outs. Only 3 ever estimated. Rodenhiser did estimate, but the upper end of what they said it could run was $6,500 more than what we are paying now that we found someone else (who is also on the quite expensive side). The estimate was not well itemized either, so it would have been difficult to figure out where we could make changes to try to bring the price down. In our opinion - they were so high it seemed like they were another outfit that didn't really want the work.
Description of Work: We paid 75$ for Rodenhiser to come out and do an estimate of our rather large project.

The representative from Rhodenheiser was professional and arrived on time. I showed him the job, which was to run a gas line through the foundation into my fireplace. This would be a straight shot and require approximately 10 feet of pipe. The quote for the job was $2,400. I have had two other quotes from licensed plumbers between $600 and $1,000. I called Rhodenheiser to complain about this pricing and I was told that I don't understand how their pricing works and they have a lot of overhead to cover. I told them, I did not think the pricing was in line with the work that was required and was actually so far off the mark I thought it was a problem. The customer service rep transferred me to the customer service manager who explained that their pricing was laid out in advance of the job by project, so in other words... if my job takes 2 hours and the next guys takes 5 hours its the same price? I told them to have their general manager call me, as I don't understand this. He never called and to be fair I have given him several weeks to reach out to me. My suggestion before hiring them, or any contractor/plumber, is to be sure to get a competitive quote. Price = Lousy, because it is several 100% higher then the market. Quality = N/A - I did not hire them Responsiveness = Bad, The actual plumber was on time, but the general manager never called me. Punctuality = Excellent, showed up on time and quickly for the estimate. Professionalism = Bad, a real professional would have followed up. The customer service manager did call me right back.

These people are unscrupulous pricers. They refused to provide an estimate over the phone. They were very insistent about getting my credit card number and charging $75 before giving an estimate. I now know why. Once you get their price, you won't want to do business with them. They tried to charge us $523 to install a gas dryer. We sent them away and spoke to 2 other plumbers; both said they'd do the job for between $200 and $250. We ended up getting the work done the same day for $249. When I complained to Rodenhiser about their $523 price quote, Ken said the manager or the technician would call me back to discuss the problem. No call ever came. STAY AWAY FROM RODENHISER!!! I see they've managed to get decent reviews on Angie's List but the web is full of customer complaints just like mine -- beware Rodenhiser's abusive pricing practices.
Description of Work: Install gas dryer. New LG dryer, unboxed, set in place, and ready for install. First floor -- clean, plenty of room to work. Gas line and exhaust duct right there. No old dryer to haul away. About as easy as it gets.

For a maintenance call for our heating system, another service provider had told us that both of our heating systems needed to be replaced. We called Rodenheiser to provide us a second opinion and and estimate. They were prompt in scheduling an appointment and came in right away for the evaluation and the estimate. The price they quoted for evaluation was reasonable. They came to a conclusion that, that one of the systems had some useful life left. This was encouraging. However, we thought that the estimate they provided was a little bit on the higher side than what we had anticipated. We did not end up going with them for this reason.

Had identical experience to review dated March 26, 2012. Have used company for two years, since purchasing home, and only issue is with the pricing methodology. Technician came out for annual preventative maintenance. Technician was very professional. A/C unit had been working fine. Technician checked outdoor fan unit, and showed me that wiring had corroded and had detached from capacitor--needed new capacitor and wiring (at this point, A/C no longer operational). Technician needed to "put together pricing" to discuss options. No problem with anything at all up to this point. After talking to home office for approximately 20 minutes, technician presented me with a list of options. Options are presented on a scale from "Platinum" option, which consisted of replacing entire system (6k-10k, I believe), down to my "Bronze" option, which was simply to get the system operational again at $500. "Gold" and "silver" options included chemical cleaning and start-up capacitor, I believe. I've experienced this before with other service providers, and I have to admit that I have a particularly bad reaction to this kind of approach--it always makes me think the technician has an incentive to upsell services, and the color-coding scale is used to confuse what the cost relates to. It may not bother others, though. Service performed and A/C running fine. Again, only issue I have has to do with the pricing. It's enough (for me), though, that I would not use them again.

We appreciate your feedback and after talking with you yesterday it has given us and opportunity to train our techs better. We do try to understand our clients feelings on the options, and it really is so mixed: some love having the ability to chose and love the way we make it simple; others would like more detail and more technical information. The options came around for many reasons, but specifically by feedback from our clients. Some clients prefer more permanent solutions while others prefer more temporary fixes. So, by us offering options we are really just trying to please everyone's taste and in this case we should have really had a conversation with you to narrow down your preferred options. This lesson learned will be discussed in our training classes. We should be exploring the situation fully first and only offering options for what you, the client, want and for what was discussed. The conversation, between the technician and the client, that takes place before we are presenting pricing is really the most important part. Getting both the client and tech together on the best solution and then coming up with options based on the best solution is really the perfect scenario. Thank you so much for the lesson and we will sure to get better Jon Manna General Manager

It went very well. Plus this is a house with electric heat so there were no ducts with which to work-everything had to be created from scratch. This was a challenge as the floor joists were not consistent throughout the house so the "drops" from the 2nd floor to the first floor through closets became difficult. Dan, who did the original schema, came back and worked with the installers to identify options when it turned out that the original plan could not work due to the joist situation as well as an outside overhang in our colonial. And though we ended up with one drop in the corner of a bedroom as opposed to inside a closet, it was the only option. The three other drops were installed in the existing large closets. Dan and the installers tried to minimize appearance and location as much as the structure would allow Every day, the installers showed up at the time they said they would. Dylan and Brian were knowlegeable, quiet, and very neat. they cleaned the house-vacuuming it really well-every day and organized and cleaned the garage where they were working. There was never a mess. I really appreciated the quiet way in which they worked every day (5 days) as I telecommute and have numerous conference calls during the week. It was never a problem. Dylan explained the digital control system very well and the system both inside and out, a Carrier Greenspeed, appears to be of superior quality. I can't say enough about the team from Rodenhiser-they were all top notch!.

Rodenhiser Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning have a monthly membership plan for an annual check. The price is a little high but if they have to come out we get a discount and because we are a member they put us at the top of the list. In an emergency they come 24/7. I competitively bid this very large job. Rodenhiser came in at a good price and, more importantly, offered a level of service beyond the competition. They have an excellent, knowledgeable sales staff. They offered to help navigate the maze of state, federal and utility rebates and credits and will even fill out all of the needed forms. They offered world-class equipment and installation professionals who are all employees. Everything went exactly according to plan. The crew started 2 days after the signing of the contract. All of the equipment was correct and in perfect condition. They arrived on time. They treated my home and family with great respect. They answered all of my questions and did things the way I wanted. They were here for 4 days and, now that the job is all cleaned up, you would never know that they were here. The new equipment is in with better-than-new-house installation and there is absolutely no wear on the house - no scratches on the steps or the floors or the walls. The work areas were safe at all times and they cleaned up perfectly. At the end of every day the house was back in running order with no visible evidence of the major work under way. It is really hard to say enough good about this excellent experience.

Called Rodenhiser after disappointment with other company's initial diagnosis and following office service. Rodenhiser's technician came as scheduled, worked efficiently, answered questions and offered information on systems, fixed without charge a damper problem estimated by other company at over $900, replaced water heater valve at $100 less than other's price, offered information on continuing service programs without a hard sell, and completed all work and cleanup within scheduled appt time. Recommend company highly.

The service and work he did was excellent. I think the price was a bit high ($700) to run the copper line but I'm under the impression that you get what you pay for so I can't complain too much. My only other suggestion would be to be up front with the $75 estimate fee. It wasn't all that clear to me. The $75 was applied to the work so it wasn't a big deal but had I not gone with them I would have owed the the $75.
Description of Work: The plumber came on time and ran a copper water line to my fridge ice maker. The installation wasn't an easy one. He had to run the line through the first floor to the finished basement and tap the cold water main there.

I had been using Rodenhiser for a couple years. I called for an appointment to fix a heating problem. They set up an appointment for the next day, saying they couldn't make it the same day (busy). The next day they called to tell me that they were not going to make it that day either. I explained I took off a day of work for this appointment and the delay was not acceptable. I asked them if they could do something. After being on hold for a minute, I was told that they were dissatisfied with the way I addressed their technician the last time they came out. They claimed that I asked the tech to do private work and that made the tech "uncomfortable". So they could no longer provide me service. I was stunned. I told them it was a passing comment. I had no intention of creating a problem. I asked the receptionist "if that was the case, why not let me know so I would have known". Then they said the regular oil tech was on vacation and they only had one oil tech available. And by the way, he was not going to be available for the rest of the week. The bottom line is that they made it clear they were not going to service me anymore. This whole situation was very unprofessional. If they were not going to service me, they should have let me know right away so I could move on. Otherwise, they should have let me know their concern and continued with the appointment. If you plan to use these guys, be aware that the same thing could happen to you. So be careful what you say. You may offend them.
Description of Work: I needed service on the oil forced air heat. None of the zones could keep up.

Rodenhiser came out for a scheduled service of the heating system. Upon review, the gas furnace was determined unsafe. The technician showed the many reasons why the structure of the furnace was unsound with a camera that was inserted into the furnace. The gas was then shutoff; however, the matter was addressed immediately. The furnace was old, and there was no question it needed to be replaced. A salesman came over to review options for replacement, including all options for rebates and financing available. Work was to begin the following day. The company provided space heaters to keep the house warm for the night (free of charge). Work began the following morning. The individuals were quick to replace the furnace, keeping me informed of the progress. The heat was working that day, with some installation follow-up required the next day. The whole process was extensive but was done over the two days. The space was fairly clean when they were done. The company followed up with instructions on how to submit applicable rebates, and all were received due to the documentation provided by the company. Also, the Rodenhiser contacted me to setup time to test the new air conditioning unit in June, as it couldn't be tested in the winter.

I called Rodenhiser because they service Carrier brand. Everyone in the company was very professional and courteous but their pricing was considerably higher that other companies. I ended up paying them for part of the service but the compressor replacement was done by another company. I was not satisfied with the cost of diagnosing the leak (it took about an hour to diagnose and i was charged $900). I have been contacting the supervisor at Rodenhiser, having left a few messages but have not heard back from them. Start to Finish:===========There were two service calls for the upstairs central AC which was not working: In the first service call, the service technician from Rodenhiser diagnosed the problem to be a bad main circuit board in the attic unit. It cost roughly $700 to fix the issue but the part had to be ordered which required a second service call to install the part. In the second service call, after the part was installed, the compressor started working but was blowing hot air. The service technician said that it would probably take a few hours to start cooling so i should check in 3-4 hours and get back if there is still a problem. After 4 hours, the compressor was still blowing hot air so i called Rodenhiser and they quickly got the service technician back. The technician indicated that this is possibly a leak issue and depending on where the leak is it could take 4-5 hours to diagnose and then fix. I was charged roughly $900 to start diagnosing the leak. The technician pressurized the pipes with nitrogen and waited 30 minutes to detect a pressure drop. There was no pressure drop so he concluded that the problem was not in the house pipes but instead in the compressor. It took roughly an hour to do this diagnosis. The technician could not find the leak in the compressor and indicated that the compressor would need to be replaced. The cost of replacement was quoted at $4800 which at this point was too high for me. I decided to go with another company for the compressor replacement. I asked the other company what it would cost to do the diagnosis and they indicated it would be ~$200. I have been trying to contact Rodenhiser about the diagnosis cost, i have left messages several times but haven't heard back from them.
Description of Work: The upstairs central AC unit was not functioning this summer. I called Rodenhiser as they service Carrier brand compressors with R22 refrigerant. It took two service calls, first one found the main circuit board to need replacement for $700. Second service call, the technician installed the circuit board but then found the compressor to have an untraceable leak requiring it to be replaced. The leak diagnosis cost $900. The price quoted for compressor replacement was $4800 which was too high for me. I ended up going with another company to do the replacement
