Cabinets looked brand new.

As a preface I wish to say that my home is about 14 years old and large (3500 square feet)..it had not been painted since our original purchase, although some minor carpentry repairs around had been done in 2008 with the deck replaced with a composite surface. Gary provided an initial estimate but significantly, was the only contractor that identified it would not be smart to provide me an estimate without my getting a separate carpentry estimate and those repairs done prior to his team beginning. He provided and estimate for the exterior painting only (other bids had come in with about 10 hours carpentry estimated into the bid--- which was well short of the actual work needed-and so I would have had significant overruns to have the house correctly repaired and painted). His forthrightness in identifying that I had significant enough carpentry work that I would be advised to get a separate bid and have it done prior to painting was on target advice and made me choose Gary Knowlton for the job over other vendors. Gary Knowlton's team first power washed my home and deck (deck was a real mess and hats off to team for spending an extra day getting my composite deck clean with significant added effort)...after the house had fully dried out the painting began the painting team was methodical, experienced, and well focused on the details. Most importantly they took feedback at each point of the job and ADDRESSED THEM FULLY with courtesy and respect. At no time did I feel I was a burden to the company (by being fairly demanding with respect to my fussiness about details). It is not common to find contractors that assure your job is an A quality job. Gary and his team (Juan was my excellent foreman). I highly recommend them for exterior house painting.

Gary's team did a fantastic job from start to finish. Gary suggested using a Kitchen and Bath paint for the Master Bath. They arrived on time and began work immediately putting down two coats of paint and finishing by the end of the day.

All work was high quality. We provided them the paint colors we wanted and they purchased all the materials. 4 - 5 men were here for 2 days. They were very nice and cleaned all work areas. Winter is probably the best time to schedule indoor work. They were very busy with outdoor work over the summer. They were up front with this and worked us into the schedule for our 2-day job. Highly recommend.

Gary helped me in choosing the house color as I was having difficulty finding the right shade. Gary and his people were always courteous and professional and did a splendid job in a short time. Would not hesitate to recommend them and would definitely use them again. They were a bit more expensive than some other companies but you get what you pay for...top notch.

Probably the best experience we have had with a contractor. We got a lot of Gary's personal attention . . . he even called in from his vacation to check on progress. His crew was meticulousy clean, prompt and professional. Would not hesitate to give Gary our highest recommendation. Side benefit . . . his quote was about $1,000 lower than competitors.

He came over to the house, he looked the job over and then he came back with a price. But I decided to go with a different guy.

All aspects of the job were completed to our satisfaction and expectations. They started the job when they said they would and stayed until it was finished. An excellent job was done and we were very happy with the outcome. We would definitely hire Gary Knowlton Painting again.

They were very prompt. The did a nice job and they were very clean and efficient. My wife had nothing but praise. I would definitely recommend them.

It was a good experience from the very beginning. When we asked for a quote, Gary got out to look at our house quickly and got us a quote within 24 hours. He then followed up with us a week or two later to see if we had questions or concerns. When we decided to go ahead with them to paint our house, we gave a modest down payment and agreed on price and colors. As soon as the weather warmed up, the crew came out to the house to prepare and paint it. The crew was there early in the morning and worked well into the evening. They were very considerate and professional. The paint crew was very meticulous and took the time to paint cleanly and neatly. No mess, no spilled paint or runs or drops. Very talented painters.

In all details, Mr Knownton and his crew operated in a very professional manner. The quoting process went smoothly. Gary was able to view the house within a couple of days from my original inquiry and the quote was on the way quickly. They provided an accurate timeframe for when the work would be started and completed. Gary was very responsive during the quoting process via email. The crew who worked on the house were great. The took great care not to damage any of the plants/shrubs surrounding the house, in fact both my wife and myself commented on how clean the yard was after they left each night. The house looks great after the stain was applied and several neighbors have commented on the appearance. I would not hesitate to use Gary Knowlton's firm again and recommend them highly.

When we bought our nearly 40-year-old house seven years ago it had just been painted. It was all white and it looked pretty good at the time. Not long after we moved in there was some minor peeling, and in the last few years the peeling became epidemic. That's when we decided the house needed a fresh coat of paint. Our plan was to go from white to gray with white trim. We solicited a number of bids from contractors, some of whom got good ratings on Angie's List. The prices ranged from $3,500 to $10,000, however, all but one contractor (in our price range) pretty much decided to slap a couple of coats of paint over the old stuff after some scraping and wood repairs. The one contractor who actually studied our peeling situation was Gary Knowlton. Gary came over to look at the house and after a lengthy tour informed us that the peeling was due to the former owners using a white paint over stain. He said he would speak with some of his colleagues in the painting business and get back to me with the best solution to our problem. He came back with a proposal that included extensive scraping, sanding, caulking, and wood replacement, and two coats of the best Sherwin Williams stain in the color of our choice. He explained that the stain would be the best solution since it would be more compatible with the former stain which would be dominant after they scraped the white paint down as far as they could. I did some reading on stains and decided Gary's proposal seemed to make the most sense. His price was higher than most but not out of the ballpark considering the extra labor required to solve the peeling problem. Gary's painters started work shortly after we signed on the dottled line. I wasn't home during the process, but my wife who is retired said they were very punctual and polite, and she said they scraped the absolute heck out of the place which was evident when I came home from work each evening. Towards the end of the process I could see they had made many repairs and filled in a lot of holes and cracks in the wood. When the job was done I couldn't believe it was the same house. It looked brand new. They took down and repainted all of the shutters and painted the cement base to exactly match the gray of the house. The trim was a nice white as were the porch stairs which also looked brand new when they were done. We were very pleased with the results. Heck, this weekend when I was out mowing my lawn and doing other yard work people from our neighborhood driving by or walking their dogs stopped to compliment me on how fantastic the house looked. To top it off, Gary said he would gladly come out to repair any spots that might experience peeling since some of the white paint, although scraped down to the nub could still pose a problem. He suggested we call him next Spring to have him come out and see how the place survived the winter. That's when I decided I needed to write this review on Angie's List. I highly recommend this contractor if you want your house looking brand new.

Disappointing. Doesn't say much about their professionalism.

I first called Tom Curren, having used them in the past. I knew they were expensive, but I also knew they were good. After all, how overpriced could they really be? Well, after being given a $15K+ quote from Tom Curren, I was quite disappointed. So I subsequently called Gary up after reading through the glowing reviews from Angie's list. Not only was Gary extraordinarily prompt at coming over (the next day), but he also emailed a very detailed estimate within 24 hours. The estimate included what I requested in addition to what needed to be done. I compared Tom Curren's quote with Gary's, and they pretty much matched to the item (even the paint brand!) with the real exception being the bottom line cost! As a result I had no doubts about hiring Gary. A couple of men initially came to wash the houses. It took them maybe 4 hours. When they returned a couple of weeks later, the crew (up to 6 men) worked 4 very full consecutive days, successfully fulfilling all of my requests. Gary struck me as detail-oriented, thorough, efficient, punctual and classy. He was always extremely responsive to my emails and phone calls. Everything that I asked for was not only completed successfully, but quickly too at a reasonable cost! I'm sure I'll be giving him more business in the future.

Gary was responsive and delivered exactly what was promised, when it was promised, and at the price agreed upon. Highly recommended vendor.

Painless, which is how I wish all jobs went.

It is a good company. I am yet to hear back from him. I will consider them in the future.

We chose another provider because I was further along in the process with them. There wasn?t anything wrong with the company, it was just the timing of things. They phoned me right away and they were really quick about getting the estimate back to me; they did what they were supposed to do.

Gary and his crew were very professional, punctual and most of all very hard-working. The quality of their workmanship was excellent, great attention to detail. They applied an oil-based primer followed by a latex top coat using brushes exclusively. I had only one minor issue with the deck and they came right out the next day and applied a second coat of stain and it looks beautiful. After they completed the job I walked around the house with a bucket to pick up any debris/trash and found almost none, very impressive! The house looks better than new and would defiantly hire them in the future.

I have been a copy editor for over 35 years, but I can't think of enough glowing adjectives to describe Gary, his staff, and their work. I can start with professional, considerate, and spectacular. Our home (cedar shingles) has required repainting several times, so I can tell if they're doing the job right. All of Gary's employees were very skilled and careful. They did a great job repairing the areas that needed it. Their cleanup was immaculate. Afterward, they swept and vacuumed around the house, and they didn't leave so much as a paint chip. We have lots of flowers and delicate shrubs around the foundation, and we haven't found any damage at all. They put everything back where it was. Our landscaping looked better than before they came. Gary's estimate was a little higher than the others we got, but he is very willing to work with you to make it affordable. It turned out the house needed a lot more repairs than we thought, but the crew did a fantastic job and didn't cut corners. We feel we got a terrific bargain, and we know our house is going to look beautiful for a long time.

He is very good, extremely reasonable, and extremely trustworthy. He is the nicest employee I would want to have working around the house. I have used him several times.
