We found them on Angie's List. They were just awesome all the way around. I had three different people come in and give me estimates on the new boiler heating system. We went with them. We were just very impressed with the guy Jamie Beckwith that came out. He is just excited about what he does and very knowledgeable. He bought a book, showed pictures and explained how the whole thing works. He spent a couple of hours and no pressure whatsoever. He was just excited to explain the system and what it can do for us. The communication was awesome. The price was right. They came and installed the system in one day. They were here for about 14 hours straight and installed the whole thing in just one day. They were just great. The other people said that it could take them two or three days. He said no and that they were going to come in and do it in one day. They came at 8 o' clock in the morning and left around 9:30 that night. They went through everything and explained everything. They had the plumber and electricians come in the same day. They delivered what the promised and more. We went through a program. In Massachusetts, we have a program called Mass Aid through our electrical provider. What they do is they come in and do a free energy audit throughout the house. When we have that done and decide to put in a whole new heating system, we get rebates. Berry Mechanical is very familiar with all of this. They handled all the rebates and all the paperwork for us. They were very above and beyond. They were phenomenal. I had this system put in in the August of 2013. The system has been running great. I haven't had them come out, but I did notice a little water on the floor. There was something that was clogged. I called them and they were there at 7 o' clock the next morning. It was really worth it. It was great. They did have to replace a part. Even though it was over 12 months, they still put it under warranty, so I didn’t have to pay for the part. I just had to pay for the service call. They made sure they cleaned everything out and cleaned up after themselves. It was one of the owners that came out and took care of it for me. He did clean things out and he checked everything.
Description of Work: We used Berry Mechanical. They installed a whole new heating system. The last time I used them, I noticed a little water on the floor. There was something that was clogged. They did have to replace a part.

Great to hear from you [member name removed] and so glad to your boiler installation has done everything we promised! We were more than happy to correct the expansion tank problem you experienced and have since improved our design to prevent this from happening with future boiler installations. I am grateful that we are able to maintain a service relationship going forward, hopefully, for many years to come! Best, Jamie Beckwith, Berry Mechanical

Working with Berry was a very good experience. The representative who provided the estimate was excellent. He helped me evaluate different options and was very patient as we looked into various options. He gave me an install date about 6 weeks out (they are very busy because they are so good) and the workers showed up on the exact date and time originally quoted. The workers were very courteous and professional. The Berry owner stopped by during the 3 day installation period to ensure that the job was progressing according to plan and to ensure that I was satisfied.

The salesman was excellent in communicating all that was to take place in order to accomplish the oil to gas conversion. The price was competitive. The contract for the service was detailed and Jamie answered a couple of questions we had. We wanted to make sure our new system resolved an existing problem which was not enough heat to a room that had been converted from an indoor to an outdoor space. The solution of a scoop collar in the existing duct seems to be working well. My husband and I were not at home when the work was done and found a couple of things were not done that had been promised. Berry Mechanical did address these issues when we called about them. Had to give them a good rating instead of excellent because of this.

Last year I switched to Berry from another HVAC service firm and I'm not sorry I did. Al pointed out to me that the space where our furnaces and hot water heater were was located was not large enough to provide adequate air for combustion. Since Both furnaces and the hot water heater were relatively old I had Al quote me on replacing all three. Bill and his team replaced the furnaces with new, more efficient, ones and the water heater with a tank-less, on demand, unit. All of the new units draw air from the outside for combustion, so there is no issue with insufficient air supply. They did a professional job and it all looks great. Al came by about a week later to check out the installation and to check that our air conditioning was functioning properly. I'm very happy with the service I've received and the way Berry communicates with me. I selected Berry because I wanted a company with fair prices and excellent service, not the cheapest or most expensive.

Purchased a service contract and they came out and serviced my central air. The contract was for service on a heater and central air. During the year I ended up purchasing a new heater and Berry was more than happy to service AC for a second time. They did not have to offer their services but were very happy to extend the offer. They are servicing at the end of April at my request. Very accommodating and friendly.

First I had previously purchase this unit from someone else. At that time I didn't know that he was an authorizes dealer, and when it was installed for the first year it work fine. Then the trouble stated, I contacted the company for there opinion and they gave me a list of authorize dealers in my area. That how I met BERRY MECHANICAL they check it out, contact the company, service the unit and from that point on it has been working fine .BRRY MECHANICAL knows there stuff... And with that said,I have referred him to my son for a replacement furnace & waterless hot water tank comb. And after getting three quotes his price was in line .

I had an emergency situation where my gas furnace would not light and I had no heat. Of the 7 phone calls I made to try and find someone who would come out within a few hours, Alan was the only one who took my call and was able to get someone over to me within the hour. Even in freezing temperatures and blizzard conditions Berry Mechanical came through. I would highly recommend Alan and his team for any HVAC job.

I originally met with Alan at my house on or around April 18th to get a quote on converting my heating system from oil to gas. I had already received one quote from another company but had seen Berry Mechanical's reviews on Angieslist and a coworker also referred me to them as they had done work for her. Alan seemed like a nice guy and talked about the work they would do and the types of materials they would use. He told me about some of the positive feedback his customers have given him on here and also that his company does things right. I told him about the other company that I had received a quote from and he told me that he thought he heard they were going out of business. I received a quote from him via email that evening and it was slightly higher than the other company but decided to go with Berry Mechanical based upon the reviews and the other company seemed to work slow so I had been unimpressed by them. Seeing this was a conversion from oil to gas there were a lot of moving parts. I had to get gas installed to my house and I also took advantage of MassSave's financing. Within the 30 days of the quote I had sent Berry a check for a majority of the installation that I had received from the bank. I then learned about some restrictions on my street, which took several months to take care of and had nothing to do with Berry Mechanical. I had to deal with my towns restrictions, which took a couple of months. I spoke to Berry Mechanical during this and let them know what was going on. Someone in either June or July called me to see where I was regarding the gas installation to my house. He said that the job did not take a long time and he would most likely be able to fit me in sometime in the future. I called him the next day and left a message with the lady who answered the phone and told them which week in August they would be installing the gas to my house, which was about a month away. I called Berry again twice the week of the installation and again a day to a few days after to let them know about the installation and it was complete. I asked if this would be done by September because I wanted to plan my budget and I would owe them $1,200 at the end of installation. I was told it would be installed by September, which did not happen. They then told me that I needed to call the gas company so that they could install the meter before they could do their work. So I called the gas company and the gas company told me that they can not install the meter until something has been hooked up, the pressure tested, and signed off by the inspector. So I called Berry back and told them, but shouldn't they have known this? So they scheduled a time to come and install the system. The first day they installed the system to the wall and the second day the electricians and gas piper came to the house. The gas piper left in the afternoon, but did not say anything when he left. It would have been nice to know that he was done and not taking a lunch or something, so I could go to work. There was then some confusion as to the gas inspector. Originally I was told to look for an inspection ticket on the outside of the house where the gas piping was and once I saw thing I could call to get the meter installed. Turns out the inspector put this in the basement and I became aware of this a week or two later after I called Berry and they told me. Berry came back in mid October to finish up. After they were complete he went over the system with me and explained everything and answered all of my questions. They system looked nice and it was good to finally have hot water. They told me the water stains on the floor were a result of the installation and they would go away once they dried. It turns out the system leaked. They came back and tightened the section that holds the lime rocks. I then noticed a few days later that the system was still leaking. I called them again and they came out a second time and told my wife he did not have the parts and would have to reschedule. A couple weeks went by and I called Berry to see what was up. They came out again and fixed the piping that was leaking at the connection with the valve. The guy told me that it shouldn't have leaked. Since then I have not seen water spots on my floor but when I run my finger over that spot there is still a few drops of water. I did not call them again and won't unless i see water on my floor again. Since they were in I had another company change my washer/dryer water valves. They said that the system Berry did was nice and they were impressed. It is a nice system and they organized it very well. Overall they were always on time, there pricing seemed to be fair, Diana in there office was always nice and pleasant to deal with as well as most of their employees and sub contractors. On the other hand they made it seem like it was a 1 day project, but it seems due to scheduling and the issue with the installation of the gas meter it was a 3 day project. I feel like the communication and scheduling for the dates for installation was originally poor as well as for coming back out for the second leak. And obviously the two separate leaks.

I am very pleased with Berry Mechanicals professional and high quilty standards in installing my new Furnace. The furnace is a Rinnai Q premier combi boiler, which is a water and home heater in one. Jamie Beckworth did a great job in articulating and communicating to me the heating options, in an easy to understand, step by step, low pressure way. The staff that installed the furnace did a wonderful job and completed the install in one day.

I was originally looking only to replace my central air unit. While searching through Angie's List referrals, I saw a lot of the companies also did tankless water heaters so I decided to do both at the same time. I called Berry Mechanical along with several other providers I found on Angie's List asking for an estimate. Although Berry did not come in at the cheapest, they were far from being the most expensive. I had one concern after reading the reviews as there was one that wasn't showing Berry in the most positive light. However, I decided to call because I thought that since they were servicing their contract customers first before taking on new business was an admirable quality. Taking care of your current customers before taking on new business with substantial dollars involved was impressive. I am thrilled that I called and that I decided to go with Berry. They did the most thorough and detailed estimate. They explained everything and checked everything. One of the other companies gave me an estimate for a 5 ton unit. They never even looked at the electrical. When Berry did their estimate, they told me right out that my electrical could NOT handle a 5 ton unit and that I didn't need a 5 ton unit. So they helped me to avoid a very large and costly headache. They did all the work in one day! Yes, one day. If it wasn't for the new equipment and extra space from the old furnace I would never have known they were even there. Once the appointment was scheduled they arrived on time. Actually they were a little early but stayed outside waiting. They did everything as promised. They put in a long day but was worth it to me. I recommend Berry without any reservation or hesitation. If you have any HVAC work be sure to call Berry. You will be glad you did. I'm so happy I'm signing a service contract so that they service all my heating and cooling needs. Thank you Berry for a wonderful experience. UPDATED (10/15/13): Wanted to mention how wonderful the office staff is too. I received all my warranties as well as a rebate form in the mail within days of the installation. I was happily surprised to see that all the rebate info was filled out or attached and all I had to do was write down my account number and sign. It couldn't have been easier. The office staff deserves kudos too!

He always came when called .. A C never worked properly since installation because of leak . This was second coil installed first was not big enough . Booster fans were installed to try and make system cool properly did not work and made exsessive noise on second floor. this was at added cost to me of close to $500.00 with no shut off switch which I ask to be installed and was not . He then said after install he would have an electrician come over and install a switch for $150 I did not to have him do it I got tired of being charged by him to make things right. If I did cancel my service contract he may of not caught leak in coil because second year freon added .25 lbs should have rung a bell because system is not suppose to leak after install an test. I called him Like i said he sent someone out. the person he sent said there was a leak in would need freon at a cost of $300 to $400. I told him I wanted to talk to Allen Berry. He told me that was true but offered not to charge me a service call if I did not want him to charge the condenser. not mentioning that the system should not leak and was covered under warranty. I called someone else who informed me of leak and that it should not leak once installed and tested. I contacted Trane Customer service they told me the same. I was also told about other problems with install one of which was condenser under the deck. Which is the only thing he corrected..AC seems to be working better now but was not replaced until August 28th 2013 so I will have to wait until next year to find out
Description of Work: Fix a leak in coil with a new coil covered by warranty. and moved condenser out from under deck also at no charge this was to correct original install.other problems he did not address.

Response from Berry Mechanical Services, Inc.
Let us start by pointing out that this installation was completed on September 9th, 2009. The property in question is a very small two floor town house bookended by neighbors with a common backyard. It was an all-electric baseboard heat house with no A/C. From the beginning this was going to be quite a challenge, to shoehorn a gas fired forced hot air heating system with A/C & all associated ductwork in a very small attic and then try to bring adequate ductwork down two floors of finished living area. Our installation team did a phenomenal job executing the best possible installation with what we had to work with for physical space. We made it clear to the homeowner that with such limited duct drop opportunities to reach the 1st floor, temperature control might be less than perfect at times. Our original signed proposal has a printed line in the “Exclusions” section stating that we could not “Zone the system for better temperature control”. Once the duct drops were completed we brought in our carpenter, at no additional charge, to cover the exposed duct runs for the homeowner after they complained about how they looked, hidden inside closets. When the homeowner complained about cooling issues on the 1st floor in June 2010 we did two things. First we upgraded the condenser size by a half ton (even though it was unnecessary), again at no charge in an attempt to prove that our system was working as designed. Then in November 2011 we charged $386.39 to install two booster fans to augment the output of our very limited supply to the 1st floor (see above). We came to do a scheduled preventative maintenance in June of 2011 where we adjusted fan speeds, again to improve comfort. Finally from June of 2011 until July of 2013 we had no official communication or correspondence with the homeowner. In July 2013 we were contacted by the homeowner again because of cooling performance issues on the 1st floor. We came out and discovered a slow refrigerant leak & quoted a labor only price to repair as the leaky coil was covered under warranty. Unbeknownst to us, the homeowner approached the equipment manufacturer to complain about our install & invited another contractor to critique our work, four years later. Let it be known that the only “mistake” made by our installers was letting the homeowner dictate where the condenser was to be placed in the common backyard. We were directed to install it beneath a deck that belonged to the homeowner. With 3 feet of clearance above the unit instead of the 5 feet recommended by the manufacturer, this certainly provided leverage for this complaint years later! Once again we came back to the job at no cost to the homeowner to make this correction involving piping & wiring to move the condenser. We also replaced the leaky coil, charging no labor. At this point we conservatively have $2750 in unpaid labor and materials consumed in an effort to make things right in the eyes of the homeowner. This was all done in an effort to satisfy the homeowner and maintain our stellar reputation, not to modify things that were never part of the original project. We are not willing to provide any more services or modifications to the original installation. We appreciate that Angie’s List provides this platform to present our input on this unfortunate impasse.

From sales to install (hopefully we won't be talking service for a while) Bill and his team (especially Jaime) were awesome! They were patient with my detailed questions, helped me every step of the way for loan and rebates paperwork, spent time explaining the operation of the system, were flexible with changes. On time, on budget. These guys are a dream! Price was reasonable as well. They know their stuff (when you get into zoned hot air it can be tricky), and were extremely neat to boot. And I am a hard grader...

They were very professional. They were on time and did the job quickly. I haven’t had any problems with it and the system is working just fine. They did a great job. We didn’t really do any price comparison but it seemed fair enough, for what we were getting. They did everything that we asked them to do. They got back to me pretty quickly with some answers when I had some follow up questions, so the responsiveness was very good. From the salesman to the guy that installed, it was a very smooth process.

Great! Right from the beginning, when I met with Jamie for the estimate. Very professional. I had others come over to do an estimate, but the knowledge and professionalism displayed by Berry Mechanical was far above all others. The work crew showed up when stated. Even the subcontracted electrician was great! They made sure that the unit was up and running and cooling the home before they left and cleaned up very well after themselves.
Description of Work: Installed new condenser with new pad all new line sets and a new air handler
