Early in the morning, the hammering began, a surprise, but a happy one. The deck came first and was almost entirely done by early afternoon when he had another job to do. Next day the finishing touches to the deck were completed along with the entire front porch renovation and shoring up.
Description of Work: Brady Carpenters restored our deck at the side of the house, including its staircase, which had caught the attention of the city building inspection authorities for having become so unstable as to be unsafe. In addition, Brady restored the front steps to the house to make them safe as they were nearly at the same point as the deck stairs. This was done without replacing parts of the two structures that were deemed solid and serviceable, something that saved us money when, had he chosen to replace everything, we would not have questioned him about it. The treated lumber is visible in the pictures as a guide to what was done. In all, it took about one and one-half days.

We initially hired Tom just to install our kitchen cabinets and pulls, which we intended to be a basic job. It became apparent that we needed someone to also demo part of the project and he took care of that for us as well. He removed our old cabinets and hauled it all off for us. When the cabinet situation became challenging for various reasons, he made it work for nominal additional funds. He ended up doing significantly more carpentry work than anyone intended and it looks great.

Tom did a great job with our Kitchen, turning it into one of the most attractive rooms in the house. He made a lot of great design recommendations and worked really hard to make sure we were happy with everything along the way. He worked to ensure we had a good cost-to-benefit ratio which is great as well. They were incredibly easy to work with, incredibly nice, and always available to discuss progress/decisions/etc. They came recommended from a friend, and I would definitely work with them again.

He suggested there was no need to do any carpentry work.
Description of Work: I called him because another contractor had suggested I needed some carpentry work done. He came per the appointment. Looked at the work and said I did not need any carpentry work. I should just get the area painted. I followed the advice and now six months later, I am glad, I did not waste my money.

Tom is attentive and pretty reliable. The quality of his work is definitely good, but I wouldn't say "great". They are certainly more than competent and the work they did seems to be done well. There were some things they did not do, and were supposed to return to finish, but have not yet. I'm still hoping they will. There were also some small details that weren't done well (like a lock that doesn't line up properly) which they also have not returned to fix. Their pricing is on the high side, and they don't apologize for that. They claim that they are about service and quality and not being cheapest. Fair enough. It wasn't outrageous, but its on the high side. I did appreciate that they were good about responding to emails and calls and showed up as promised. That doesn't seem like a lot to ask, but in this current environment, it is much more than most. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and they did 99% of what they said they would do. They were on time and on budget.
Description of Work: Tom replaced damaged gutters and facia boards from ice dam damage last winter. He also replaced a decent amount of rotted trip around the house with Azek. Replaced a rotted door.

Tom and his brother work well together. After a prompt estimation process they performed the demolition in short order, discovered a more extensive repair job than initial review suggested. They coordinated well with my plumber and did a superior job restoring the wall and floor tiling to match existing tiling, a tricky job. Tom researched and found the floor tiling and worked with leftover wall tiles we had in storage. The work was to remove and replace shoddy installation that resulted in severe leakage into unit below. Tom and Sean were a pleasure to work with, courteous, considerate of our home, and left the place in spotless condition. Tom was very responsive to our stylistic and admittedly picky detail needs. They arrived on time as promised every day and worked doggedly until completion. The entire project took about two weeks, a miracle given the extent of the repair and restoration work it turned out to need. Plan to use Tom for a future renovation project.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced leaking full-length shower stall in a multi-dwelling unit, oversaw installation of renewed drainage plumbing, installed new copper pan, restored wall and floor tiling and installed new shower ledge.

Tom's work at my house was terrific. During the entire process from obtaining a bid up until the final tweaks were made in the kitchen, his professionalism, attention to detail and courteous nature were well appreciated. He completed a full remodel of my kitchen and adjacent half bath, which were severely outdated and in need of improved functionality. He helped me come up with a functional design that improved use of the kitchen. The quality of his work was wonderful, not to mention very timely and he managed the project within my expected timing and budget. I have recommended him in the past to friends looking for home renovation projects and also plan to use him for any future projects at my home. I don't think you would be disappointed with his work.

The 2nd time I spoke with Tom Brady he said he had a number of other first time customers he was trying to schedule. We agreed on a date & time for him to come to see the work to be done. - on a day that he would be near my area seeing other clients. He never showed. I called him an hour after the appointment time. He was apologetic, saying he didn't even have me down for an appointment that day - he had been very busy due to the Angie's list responses he had. I said I wasn't in any rush to have work begin, but I did want him to come over to look at & decide which of 2 projects he preferred to do. He said he would call me back to set up another time to come by. He has never called me back in over 6 months.
Description of Work: He called within a few days of me purchasing the offer March 2015. We spoke on the phone 3 times. He has not performed any work. I am still expecting him to honor the original deal. I will be happy to amend my review to be more positive once Mr. Brady has completed a satisfactory job.

I contacted Tom, who responded quickly. He came to look at the job (on time, at a convenient time before work). He described accurately what he could do (and that replacing the columns would cause the rest of the porch to go back to normal). The quote was good (and lowest). He came the following week and replaced the columns. The porch lean was corrected. The work done was complete. There were no surprises. The work space was left clean. Next time I need carpentry work I'll call Tom Brady.

Tom made a custom threshold to separate my kitchen and mudroom. I was selling my house and needed this work done at the last minute, as another carpenter had an emergency and could not perform the work. I called Tom after calling at least 25 other carpenters and he was the only one who was able and willing to help me. He came right over, assessed the situation and came up with a plan in minutes. The threshold was made and installed in less than 24 hours and it looks great! Tom was just a pleasure to deal with and I cannot thank him enough for helping me out.

Complete new build of front stairs and risers to the building. Although building is only 2006, the shoddy cost-cutting builders used awful materials and the build quality was poor. The stairs were in a very bad state and needed totally new build. Tom used highest-grade materials and the finished stairs are excellent (as the original house builders should have done it). The stairs were so bad they were dangerous. Now they are fine and looking as-new - even in the terrible weather of February 2015.

They helped me with the following taking away the burden from my side to be involved in this - Chose a suitable vanity sink with the size constraints - Choose suitable tiles (which apparently are in fashion now based on my colleagues) Tom seemed pretty observant and thorough in their task right from the start - Tom made good measurements and suggested what would be a best fit - Tom observed that the tiles behind the flush had been removed, the slope in the floor etc. - Tom did a good job of fixing up / replacing portions of the bathroom floor which was not in good condition They were pretty clean on the task & cleaning up at the end of the day etc. *** Overall I felt they did a very good job and was happy with the end result. *** I would have given them a A* if they replaced tiles behind the flush (an artifact of the old state) :-)

Tom was hired to renovate our second bathroom and part of the job involved building a small corner shower. Before I explain the primary issue at hand, I?ll say that Tom left our property a complete mess after finishing the job. I spent hours vacuuming, washing walls, scrubbing hardened mortar mix off my back deck and picking up cigarette butts. In the months following the completion of the job, my wife and I avoided using the shower as it would wake up our infant son. After renting our condo however (6-7 months after the job was finished) our tenants began using the shower daily and our neighbor downstairs reported water pouring down through the light fixture into their closet (directly below the shower). We paid to have the shower inspected by two licensed master plumbers and both said the following a. The issue was a faulty rubber membrane underneath the base of the shower b. The better way to build a shower is to use a ?copper pan? vs. rubber membrane because rubber membranes frequently rip and cause leaks (go figure). Tom came by and inspected both the shower and our neighbors closet (which is now completely rotted, torn open and in need of complete restoration). First Tom shifted the blame onto the plumber who installed the drain, but later we confirmed that the water was coming from the perimeter of the shower base and not the center. Then Tom suggested that we apply a silicon seal over the top of the shower base (aka the famous ?The Duct Tape Approach?). I pushed back saying that just sealing it a. Wouldn?t solve the root cause of the issue b. Would likely leave us in the same situation in the near future After a lengthy discussion on the back porch (away from our tenants), we agreed that I would repurchase all necessary supplies (despite none of this being my fault) and Tom would rebuild the shower base. We then went back inside, collectively relayed this plan to our frustrated tenants and set the date for 3 weeks out. 6 weeks later Tom came by and proclaimed ?I figured it out! We just need to cover the shower base in Silicon??(aka ?The Return of the Duct Tape Approach?). When I asked him to fix it as we discussed (actually fixing the rubber vs just sealing the floor), he walked out of the condo saying ?he was done.? Tom Brady Carpentry left me with a. Frustrated tenants that have been without their shower for weeks b. Frustrated neighbors with a ruined closet (who happen to be expecting a baby in a month) c. A bill to repair my neighbors closet (~$1200 d. A bill to pay another contractor to analyze/fix the shower (~$3000) I had two contractors by last night and they both confirmed that the temporary fix (silicon on the floor) would in fact fail in a year or two and commented on the lack of quality in the workmanship in general. I obviously couldn?t be more disappointed with Toms work and failure to stand behind it. I was patiently waiting for him to do the right thing and help me fix my shower?Instead he walked out the door and completely left me hanging. Do yourself a favor and pass on this company.

Response from Tom Brady Carpentry
I did offer to do the repair. What [Member name removed] forgot to say is that I was there to do the repairs , he said no he wanted a new floor, [Member name removed] had also failed to say is the floor settled it dose happen in older buildings , this the first time that we have ever had a leak and I was more than willing to fix the problem. After arriving an hour late [Member name removed] became very loud and rude to me and my help, after determined that he was not going let us finish . [Member name removed] has now sent me a text offering to pay me to do what I had started to do. At this point I wish not to work with [Member name removed] again.
