I would certainly recommend Jim for any future networking/software diagnosis/disk drive repair. Additionally, he is local to where I live, which I consider a major plus as well.

Jim was very professional - responded to my phone calls in a reasonable amount of time and apologized when there was a delay initially. He was quite knowledgeable and even did some problem-solving with me over the phone before coming out to our home. I think his price was fair for the amount of time he spent in our home. The router he recommended did improve things somewhat, although not as much as I had hoped. I do not blame Jim for this, we have an old home and I think we need to place another access point on the second floor. My only complaint is that he did offer to do some more work for us at a future date. However he never responded to my calls thereafter. I wonder if he changed his mind about wanting to do that work, which involved crimping CAT-5 wires in our basement in order to plug them into the router & activate the wiring on the second floor.

I have called a total of three times and left messages. We never heard from anyone. We were disappointed he never followed up with us. It was over a period of 4 weeks so there was plenty of time to return our calls.

We have a small company in our home office with a server and 5 stations. Our server wasn't working properly and caused several problems with our operating system. I had a long list of problems. Jim arrived on time and in a friendly and professional manner fixed each problem and got us up and operating. He was very reasonable for the half day he spent at our office. We will definitely use him again.

I had a friend replace the motherboard in my laptop and after the repair new problems surfaced. I found Jim, the Geek Handyman, here on Angie's List and based on all the great reviews I contacted him about running a diagnosis on the computer. He replied within a few hours of my phone call, I dropped off my laptop the next evening, and received a call with the diagnosis at 8 am the next morning. He explained the problems in layman's terms and clearly outlined my options. Based on the price paid for the laptop, its age, and the cost to replace vs repair it I ultimately decided to buy a new one. Not the answer I was hoping for, but at least I now know what the problem was.

So I contacted the Geek Handyman (GH from here on out) because I have a high-end computer that would not boot up. I had already tried all of the tier 1 tech support fixes and had neither the time nor resources to fully look into my computer problem. I was in constant contact with GH through the process, and scheduled a time and place to drop off my PC. As a heads up, this is a residence an not a business, but that should not stop you from using GH! My computer was taken care of quickly and when the problem was discovered (faulty RAM stick) I was contacted and told why my computer would not boot and options for getting my machine operational. GH clearly outlined the cost of his work as well as time table to completion. There was a small hick-up when he did fix my machine. He broke a fan in my computer, so I did dock him down to a "B" for quality. HOWEVER, he did notify me right away that the fan had broken and offered to either replace it for free or he would discount the cost off of my bill. That's what I call an "A" for honesty. In the end, my machine was out for less then a week and the work done was on budget and on schedule. If you are having computer issues, I would highly recommend the Geek Handyman for your personal computer needs. His service is great, he communicates well with customers, and his prices for service are competitive.

Great ! We contacted Jim via email and described the problems to him. We then brought the laptop and Playstation over to his house. He looked at them and gave us a very fair and accurate quotes. He stayed in contact with us about some delays and did everything he could to make sure we were happy. Overall very impressed !!

Jim was very responsive, got a call back right away and he was flexible in scheduling an appt. The problem I was having was pretty unusual, but Jim figured it out pretty quickly, much to my relief. Not being real tech-savvy, I was able to ask Jim about how to evaluate the best backup system, where to look for tech reviews when it's time to buy, etc. He's good at explaining things in layman's terms, and I feel more equipped to make decisions going forward. I recommend him without reservation.

Jim was great! He found a product and tested it thoroughly on his home machine BEFORE he came to install it. In addition he let us know ahead of time the limitations of the software and asked if we still wanted it. He installed the software, showed us how to use it, and it has been exactly what we needed and did just what he told us it would. He only charged us for onsite time, saying that testing of the software at home was part of his learning experience. He was courteous and friendly. We would definitely hire him again.

Jim was able to come over to my house and walk through the steps for upgrading basic systems on my iMac. He brought other work to do during the slower steps of downloading and installing, so he didn't have to charge me for that time. It went smoothly. He was able to help me sort out a few changes and one odd glitch after installing the new operating system. So it was back to normal when we were done. He has a very personable and professional manner.

I was unable to get my computer to boot up. I had tried various attempts including rebooting from the replacement CDROM. I was not sure if this was a hardware or software problem. I looked on Angie's list and found Jim Rumreich ( The geek handyman computer services.) I called him, discussed the problem and later that day brought the computer to him. He performed some preliminary checks and thought it may be a problem with the hard drive. but wanted to perform additional test to confirm that this was the problem. He called me later that day, told me the hard drive was the problem and discussed a number of possibilities about what to do. These included replacing the harddrive, -with a conventional drive- or using a solid state drive. He described the pros and cons of each, including pricing. I opted to get the solid state drive, even though it was more expensive. ( Now, I'm very glad I did. The performance is much better.) After replacing the drive, Jim did a complete "mirror" image reinstall of the applications, files, data and other components. When I picked up the computer, Jim described the entire process he had gone through, and made recommendations that i could use to keep the computer in good form. The computer is back in my home and working perfectly. I'm very pleased with the service and would highly recommend Jim to anyone seeking computer repair or service.

My PC was having numerous strange issues and I had already tried to reinstall the OS and to restore from a backup without success. Jim came out and spent almost a full day trying to repair my computer. When it became clear that it had issues beyond those he could fix in one sitting, he took it back to his house while I was away on vacation, and then came back over the weekend (as soon as I returned to town) to complete the re-installation. The overall charges were extremely fair for all that work; in essence he did not charge for all the time it took to determine that he needed to bring it back to his house for additional work. My computer works again, and I am very happy. He was also very nice to work with. During some of the times he was waiting for the computer to complete a task, he suggested some other tasks he could help me with. I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Superb experience. Jim was incredibly responsive throughout. He came right on time, diagnosed the problem and then fixed them efficiently -- this after others could not manage to resolve the issues. He was a perfect professional, did not talk "down" to those of us less skilled and put up with chaos in the house from dogs and family. Price was right in line with expectations. He is our new BFF.

Jim has been a great help working with my Mom (age 84) and cleaning up years of computer stuff all over her house. He patiently reviewed what was there, what she needed and wanted, discussed alternatives, helped purchase the right items for her needs, installed them (including converting old data), and taught Mom the nuances of the new systems. He has been knowledgeable of all manner of apps and platforms, patient, empathetic, and a good teacher. None of us 5 kids - all out of the immediate area - could get our arms around all that our engineering father had assembled and patched together over the years. And most important to us, Mom is comfortable calling on Jim for help at any time.

Computer had a boot problem. Called Geek Handyman in the morning, he returned my call at noon and was at my house by 1pm. Fixed the issue and was done by 2pm. He was very helpful and offered nurmerous tips for troubleshooting and preventative measures. Highly recommend.

We woke up to a computer that appeared dead. 4 beeps and nothing on the screen. We found Jim on Angies list and as he was close, made him our first call. My wife quickly arranged to drop the system off at Jim's shop. A few hours later he called with the diagnosis (bad memory), had new memory installed and we arranged to pick it up, all in the same day. The system's been working fine since. We're very happy with the service.

Computer repair (motherboard replacement)

I called Jim about a virus on my laptop. I received a call back promptly and we discussed the problem. He explained what he would do, about how long it may take and approximate cost. Said he would pick-up or I could deliver. I delivered the computer on Monday and picked it up on that Wednesday. Jim explained everything he did step by step from a repair log he kept. The overall experience was great, easy to deal with and his price to repair was reasonable. I highly recommend Jim and would use him again in the future.

Walked us through what he did so we would be able to resolve if the problem recurred. Responded to my inquiry right away; scheduled a convenient time; was punctual, professional and very helpful. Even tried to resolve over the phone during our initial call.
