After a few rain events we noted water coming into our garage. I let James know and he scheduled an infrared repair that helped but did not fix the problem. A year later the issue became worse. I called James and he came back and completely ripped out the entire driveway, installed a drain at his own expense and fixed the problem. He does stand by his work. Since the recent work we have not had any water issues. Thank you for standing by your work and for fixing things when they need to be done. Very happy with this commitment to follow through and do the job right.

Wayne and his crew were prompt and worked very hard and efficiently. When I requested that they dig a trench for a pipe under the driveway (so I can bury my wires later) they dug the trench and laid the pipe right away then charged me a very fair price. They did the work in less time than estimated. Wayne also came back and made sure that splatter from the asphalt was cleaned off the house siding. Very good guy, I highly recommend them and would use them again.

James from Driveway Specialists was an absolute pleasure to work with. He showed up on time, provided a very reasonable estimate, walked me through exactly what would occur, and when the time came for them to do the work, they really delivered. Overall, I was very pleased with Driveway Specialists. The price was significantly lower than some of the other estimates I got, but the quality of the work is very high. The driveway looks great! We had to have some flexibility in our schedule, as it was a bit difficult to nail down a start date (it seemed that they were juggling multiple jobs and had some uncertainty on their side). But if you do have some flexibility with regards to timing, I would highly recommend them. I worked with Wayne, and he was very nice, knowledgable, and professional.

My father called James for an estimate, James scheduled a time to come and he came on time for his job estimate, and then gave the job proposal onsite after my father explaining the job to be performed. We had edits to his proposal and job description and James had no problem making those edits and adding it to the proposal. James and his crew did a great job. They dug up the old driveway, first paved it with new stones, and then paved it. Then did a great job re-coating with asphalt around the walkway around our house. It turned out they damaged our sidewalk with there roller during paving of the driveway; James didn't argue or put up a fuss he came over and fixed this past weekend since the weather allowed for the concrete to dry. I'm extremely happy with James and Driveway Specialist and would recommend them to anyone.

the work was done in a timely manner. Wayne came out, surveyed what needed to be done and we had a quote the very next day. When the work was started, they completed it on time and in a very professional manner. I would highly recommend them and would certainly use them again. First rate construction with professional workmanship and customer service. Very best of my experience with Angie's list. Very worthwhile, good work, highest quality, and you get the sense these people care about their reputation, their quality. Most of their business is from referrals which tells you to expect quality.

It came out beautifully and I feel like their pricing was very reasonable for the scope and size of the job. You could easily park 6 + cars in the driveway to give an idea of size.

Wayne stopped by on a Wednesday evening, provided the estimate that same night and the driveway was started and completed the following Monday. Great price, perfect scheduling and turnaround, and an awesome new driveway all within a week of hiring him; can't beat that!!

Did a great job. Basketball court came out great and level. They were very careful in how they brought in the equipment in order to minimize any damage to the surrounding lawn.

An excellent job done by James and crew. He was done in 2 days. Fixed my stone walls that were listing forward after all the snow we had. Made sure the water did not run into the garage doors. I would highly recommend this company for any paving needs.

The Driveway Specialists were hired to pave our driveway, we agreed on a price of $3500. Work was done on 10/12/2013. Driveway looked beautiful, but when we were able to walk on it, we did not find the cap of the shut-off gas valve for the house- THEY PAVED OVER THE SHUT-OFF GAS VALVE CAP, DID NOT NOTICE IT!!! THE ROUND CAP OF THE SHUT-OFF GAS VALVE FOR THE HOUSE WAS CLEARLY VISIBLE BEFORE DRIVEWAY WAS RE-DONE!!! AND THEN IT HAS DISAPPEARED UNDER THE NEW PAVEMENT!!! Contractor was informed and asked to fix this in spring when the weather permits. All communications were with James Flynn, one of the owners, a young man who takes care of the Norfolk county part of their business. He was at the property when the work was done. We called him in the beginning of April, and again at the end of April as we did not hear from the company. We asked contractor to contact Dig Safe as we felt it was their responsibility to fix their own error. Per Dig Safe request Columbia Gas person came and marked the gas valve location spot on the pavement. Contractor cut 2x2x2 ft opening in the newly paved driveway, and did not find the valve as the marking was one foot off. Per our request Columbia Gas came back, cut the opening one foot longer, located, repaired, and raised the valve to the level of the new pavement. They filled and patched the hole, it looked rough. We felt it was responsibility of The Driveway Specialists company to fix the rough patch as if not for their mistake paving over the valve, we would not have had this problem. After multiple calls, James Flynn came and looked at the hole. He promised to fix it using mixture of liquid asphalt and sand. He also said that seal-coating is due this summer, why not to do it at the same time, the price is $350, a $100 discount for our troubles. We agreed and left him a check- never again we will pay for work before seeing how it was done! Seal-coat was done on 06/18/14, but the ugly patch was not fixed. We called James again, and asked why the patch was not fixed before seal-coating. He said we have it wrong- seal coating first, then fixing the patch!!! And he will come to fix the patch on 06/24/14, 12:30-1:30. he called at 12:30 to let us know he needs friend's help, and they will come after 6PM. He never came or called again. On 06/25/14 Columbia Gas company contractor (per company's record) came over and performed a rough job around the edges, and took away asphalt cut-outs. Be aware that Driveway Specialists owners request payment checks to be written to their names, and not to the company name, and immediately cash them. We regret doing this as cancelling the check is not an option. Both owners are smooth talkers and make a very pleasant first impression, but luck experience and do not keep their word.

They were very responsive and I was very happy with the price.

This was a large project and a large driveway area. The pitch had to be changed a lot ....five truck loads of gravel. We live on a busy road so it was difficult to navigate the equipment, but and they did a great job. The price we paid was exactly what was estimated by James at the beginning of the job. We had to wait a bit for them to get to our project because they were so busy....but that is because they are really good! The workers were polite and everyone was a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended

We talked in June, and Wayne said it'd be done in July. They ended out getting to it in October. Once here, the job was done well in 2 days. We will only know if it lasts by waiting for years. A little litter was left on the site. His estimate was slightly higher than another estimate we got, but when I met Wayne, he seemed very much on the ball, and I guessed that he might do a better job, one that will last.

I found Driveway Specialists on Angies list. After reading several of the reviews, I set up an appointment for an estimate. Wayne came the next day and we went through the details of either repairing the driveway or replacing it. Given its condition, Wayne recommednded the driveway be replaced. Since I had received another estimate I had some assurance that replacing the driveway was the most reasonable approach. Wayne measured the driveway and an adjoining small walkway, went through the process of what the job would entail and gave me a price. Since he was doing work in the neighborhood he thought he might be able to start the job the following week. He called to ask if he could move the job to a later time. I agreed. On the day they started the work, they removed the old blacktop and prepared the foundation for the new driveway. Because a tree stump adjacent to the driveway had to be removed there were 3 days between the time the old driveway was removed and the new one put in place. Wayne made arrangements for the stump to be removed and the shavings taken away. Wayne is a true professional. He and his crew are reliable, knowledgeable and do an outstanding job. I would recommend them to anyone needing this type of service.

It troubles me to write a negative review but I have no choice. I used Angie's List to renovate my entire house, employing close to a dozen different service providers. They were all terrific and received "A"s across the board. Not so with The Driveway Specialists. James, the owner, is very young and disrespectful. I interviewed 4 candidates for the work I needed and he seemed like a straight shooter. I signed the proposal, informed the other candidates and waited patiently for the work to be done. It all went downhill from there. This guy is full of excuses. Delays, delays, delays. I caught him making several contradictory statements - first I needed to take the old fence down before the driveway could be built (which I did), then no, I needed to leave it up so I should have the new fence installed before they can begin (which makes no sense because the new fence would be in the way). But I did as he instructed - performing some of the excavation myself to clear the ground for the new fence because he was making such a huge issue out of it. I knew I was getting the run-around because one of his workers told me something completely different from what he told me about the delay. But I was desperate. I was starting a new job and wanted the work completed before I started. I can handle legitimate reasons for delays but his dislocating his shoulder playing sports should not interfere with my project. He didn't even perform the work when it was finally done. He just stood there watching. To be honest, the final result is great. I love the retaining wall and the walkway (his masons are really hardworking and exact - they should start their own business), and the driveway looks fantastic. But there is a small section that needs to be repaired due to some wiring that was done after they finished. I contacted James (reluctantly) and after 3 texts assuring me he would be there and changing his reasons for not showing up (again), I gave up and will have to find someone else. As an aside, I gave his workers close to $500 in tips on an $8000 job. He told me no money due until the project was completed but then came back to me and asked for half (because he had to buy the step and pavers) and then was concerned about the bank I used to write the check (mind you, I paid over $100,000 in checks to other workers and it was never an issue) but I was like okay, do you want me to go get cash? I was kind and helpful and generous and made to feel like a pest even though I was the customer. I would not recommend this guy. You might eventually get a nice final product but it's h*** getting there and you will probably be lied to. Good Luck!

this Co. was professional, punctual and did an excellent job. The driveway looks fantastic. The only issue i had was with the cleanup after the work was done. There was a 2X4 5 ft long covered with tar that was left at the side of the job site as well as a 12" circular spill of oil on the crabgrass/lawn...not a huge deal...but still a pain to take care of.

James, the owner, and his crew worked very diligently to completely redo my driveway which accommodates six cars. They also removed 2 shrubs at the edge of the driveway in order to straighten its line. It took two days and the result is excellent. My property appearance has significant improvement. There was a delay on the estimated start date and communication could have been better, but when they started the job it was done well and efficiently. I would recommend them.

The driveway looks great and was completed just the way we wanted. Our only issue was the timeline we were given. We were told it would be completed within 2 weeks of signing the contract... It took them 6 weeks to get started. They kept pushing the timeline back. Also, I had to be the one to call them, they never called me.

My requirements were that they responded right away, were professional, gave a reasonable price, were quick to do the work and provided very good work. They were all met and we were happy.
